CMLL on CadenaTres: 2013-11-02

“they’ll fix this in editing”

recap

taped 2013-10-29 @ Arena Mexico
Leono & Robin vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein: not the exact same formula as the last two weeks but definitely not an improvement. Second fall turned into amateur hour and the rest of the match was no great shakes. A waste of time.

double stomp

Aéreo, Bam Bam, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior: This was not a good match, but it completely got derailed by the second fall unexpected disqualification and never rebounded. Third fall was disjointed; laid out in a way to be a big finish but really never building any momentum to get there. The Warrior teased feuds of the last two weeks were completely ignored.

not a good tope, not sure why I grabbed this one

Fuego, Pegasso, Sagrado vs Boby Zavala, Sangre Azteca, Virus: Another match which really never got going before a lame result. I don’t know if there was a push for more ‘surprise’ finishes to falls, but there sure has been enough of them to drain all surprise the last month or so. Rudos did a random blend of trapping a guy inside for a hot tag, then stopping trapping for no reason, then never really letting the técnicos get hot. This was not good.

return of the Volador jerk dropkick!

Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión: Another formula match, though a more entertaining formula. Very straight forward and again short (though if every match on Tuesday is short, I’m not sure I should still be calling them short.) Good while it lasted.

Mije saved – and trashed

La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Super Porky vs Morphosis, Mr. Águila, Volador Jr.: The absolutely minimum stuff possible. I think Dorada got in like 3 spots in the entire match. It was really the rudos directing the action, and directing it to be a very basic very easy match for them. Crowd was okay with it because it was Porky and Volador, but it was not really a suitable main event. Mailed in.

Alan & Veneno defeat Traumas, Psyco Ripper revealed, AAA in Aguascalientes

IWRG (THU) 11/21/2013 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), IWRG]
1) Atomic Star & Electro Boy b Seiya & Sky Ángel
2) Anubis Black, Araña de Plata, Epidemia b Emperador Azteca, Hip Hop Man, Látigo
Epidemia replaced Kalim Black, Latino replaced Mr. Leo.
3) Douki b Dragón Celestial [super libre, #1 Contenders, IWRG IC Light]
Douki gets a shot at Imposible
4) Golden Magic b Canis Lupus [super libre]
Mask ripping and bleeding. Golden Magic asked for a mask versus mask match, not a title match.
5) Alan Extreme & Veneno b Eterno & Súper Nova and Trauma I & Trauma II
Traumas used fouls to defeat Nova & Eterno. Alan & Veneno bled again but beat the Traumas to win.

Main event seems to be setting up a Traumas vs Alan/Veneno title match, but the champs have another title match to get thru first. Golden Magic versus Canis Lupus seems like it might the big December match, if there is one this year.

CMLL’s show tonight is main evented by Estetas vs Guerreros/Volador in something which could turn into a trios match, but the bigger match on the night is Negro Casas versus Rush. The two feuded during the summer leading up to a hair match which still hasn’t gotten around to occurring. It makes sense to be the year end hair match main event, and they should make it clear that’s going to happen tonight if it’s really the plan. Picking a date wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

The big mysery in the undercard is no longer a mystery. CMLL Gaceta posted a photo of Psyco Ripper. He’s Psicosis II. There’s no attempt to the previous identity in the picture, all of Psicosis’ chest and arm tattoos are visible and the only thing changed is his mask. CMLL weirdly insists this is a new person anyway. I would assume this means AAA has won it’s battle over the name (making them 3 for 3 with the Invasors) or CMLL just doesn’t want to be part of it anymore. He’ll probably continue to use “Psicosis” on non-CMLL shows.

Triton replaces Rey Cometa in the tercera. That CMLL Gaceta report mentions Cometa will be out four weeks after being hurt in Arena Mexico last Sunday. Cometa was visibly hurt in his match with Impulso in the ChilangaMask show and did seem hurt again after his dive on Sunday.

AAA tapes tonight in Aguascalientes, the last taping before Guerra de Titanes. The main event is a Perros versus Perros main event where the story appears to be no one knowing why this is happening. AAA posted an interview with Daga where he’s upset with Perro for causing this match to exist, but hasn’t actually talked to him (or Psicosis.) Someone get Daga some Telcel credits so he can make a phone call.

All the matches AAA has planned for Guerra de Titanes should be clear by the end of this taping. However, since AAA seems to be treating the December show as just extra special taping, their may not be many plans for meaningful matches. They are running a 12,000 building, so it seems like they ought to have something major but it’s a bit late in the game for that. AAA’s Twitter promoted the show this morning as “El evento que cambiará todo“; they could be exactly correct, but they haven’t created the feel of everything changing.

Psycho Clown announced all of the CMLL luchadors have been prohibited from wrestling on this weekend’s El Brazo tribute show, though they will be signing autographs. This is the reverse of the Brazo family show this summer, where all the AAA luchadors were limited to appearing (and run-ins) and the CMLL luchadors worked that show. It appears to be CMLL’s call both times – they won’t let their guys wrestle in the same ring as AAA wrestlers, even if they’re in different matches.  It’s a dumb policy, especially on shows in tribute to deceased luchadors, but it’s not a new policy.

Mookieghana posted a lot of stats about the last 10 years of CMLL matches, based on my weird record keeping. The people who faced off the most were not Averno and Mistico, as much as it seemed like it for a few years.

Alex has an Electrico highlight video.

Tercera Caida posted behind the scenes interviews Aeroboy and Ovett & Ciclope (& mystery guest), then did another new episode last night promoting the Fusion Sports and DTU shows. They have a third episode (Quinto Caida?) on Sunday.

Matematico II and Tiger Man are police officers when they’re not in the ring. They’re mentioned as brothers here, which I had not heard before. The article says there are 70 different police officers (including 10 women) who also work as luchadors.

The Los Exoticos movie airs in Ensenada tonight.

Lineups

IWRG (SUN) 11/24/2013 Arena Naucalpan
1) Imposible vs Douki [IWRG IC Light]
Imposible is champion. Second defense.
2) Apolo Estrada Jr., Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo vs Black Terry, Bombero Infernal, Dr. Cerebro [EdM Trios]
Gringos VIP are champions. First defense.
3) Trauma I & Trauma II vs Oficial AK47 & Oficial Fierro [IWRG IC TAG]
Traumas are champions. Third defense
4) Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. vs Eterno, Súper Nova, X-Fly [IWRG IC TRIOS]
Piratas are champions. First defense.
5) Oficial 911 vs Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 [IWRG Rey del Ring]
Oficial 911 is champion. First defense.

Lot of title changes and not a lot of defenses means many of these are new champions. Main event is the best chance for a title change.

recap

not totally sure what this was.

taped 2013-10-22 @ Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
Black Metal, Esfinge, Leo vs Espectrum, Hooligan, Nitro: In a world where CMLL was actually bringing Leo to Mexico City soon (instead of just something invented by the announcers to kill time), why would you air a match where Leo is so bad? CMLL airs hours and hours of TV, but they also have hours and hours more – why is picking the good stuff hard? Leo did look bad, but Nitro was also not in a mood to help him out at all. Everyone else was in shouting distance of alright but nothing memorable.

no one gets destroyed like Namajague

taped 2013-10-27 @ Arena Mexico
Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Namajague, Puma, Tiger: Very good, borderline great. A really fun trios match for something only two falls and note exceedingly long.) Under the circumstances, they actually built stronger to a Namajague/Maya singles match than the actual tag match, but both are good ideas. Atlantis was surprisingly good working against Tiger and Puma and Delta were good as well. There were definitely places that could’ve been cleaned up – not sure what the German suplex near the end was supposed to be – but overall a pretty fun time.

Mistico always goes straight up on backcrackers.

Mistico, Rush, Titán vs Averno, Mephisto, Volador Jr.: Good booking for next week, although Mephisto and Titan actually had more rough spots than every other combination. Still, Titan looked very strong in the end here; someone’s working hard to make him look good. The surprise sudden turnaround is done too much (because there’s three falls), but the dropkick a seated guy off the apron bit that set it up here in the second fall is also way over exposed and never looks that good. It doesn’t seem like an easier bump, and it’s not really a more impressive one at this point.

11/23-25 lucha times

box.

En Busca de un Idolo is again not listed on the schedule this week again listed next week. I’m again doubtful.

== AAA ==

AAA-Televisa: part 1 (?) of Queretaro – maybe Ciber/Perro/Fenix vs la Secta and the gringos versus Daga/Pirata/Pentagon? Total guesses here.

== CMLL ==

FOX: Atlantis/Panther/Azul vs Felino/Niebla/Pierroth and Mascara/Sombra/Rush vs Casas/Tonga/Terrible. Titan/Zavala reairs if time.

52MX: They aired the build up to Rush vs Terrible last week, so maybe that match from Guadalajara airs this one? Rey Cometa’s last match for a while is lined up to air, as is the start of the latest Titan title challenge.

C3: Volador vs Mascara Dorada

TVC Deportes (Puebla): Shocker vs Negro Casas vs Rush.

Terra Friday: the “debut” of Psyco Ripper, maybe a good opener.

Terra Sunday: Titan continues to go for the title. Artillero & Super Comando return.

Lucha Azteca: Rush vs Tama Tonga? Who knows, they’re out of order.

== Other ==

IWRG-AYM/LAS: There’s even more repeats this week; they may be airing the Thursday and Sunday shows on AYM. Guessing Thursday show airs on Tuesday. The show has been changed from 2h30m slots to 2h00m, which probably means more bad editing like missing the fall from the segunda last week.

Noches de Coliseo: Daga & Perro vs Ozz & Scoria?

IWL: This is the every other week. Should be Canek/Park/Wagner/Crazy if it airs.

DTU: An international (Steve Pain, Tomahawk) multiman match and Queretaro vs DTU trios. They will have shown all the matches but the DTU team.

Santo teases retirement, Astral wins boydbuilding contest, GdT building

El Hijo del Santo’s column starts off with Santo announcing he’s off the current TxT tour because he’s headed back to Mexico City for x-rays on his spine. Santo dramatically states the doctors will decide on Monday if he’s able to continue his lucha libre career or if he’ll be forced to retire. That Monday press conference should also be the press conference to push the TxT show next week in Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera, so this feels like a real injury that’s being inflated to promote something. It’s a Santo column, so there are already fantastical things going on – he refers to LA Park replacing him last night and the crowd being totally okay with it, even though he would’ve turned in this column before the TxT show happened.  The rest of the column is in the usual fashion, claiming his generation of wrestlers ended up the least injured because they were the most skilled at wrestling on the mat (ignoring the part earlier where his career is ending due to injury.)

CMLL’s annual bodybuilding contest was held yesterday. Results

Principiantes Category:
1) Dragon Lee II – a brother of Rush & Mistico
2) Pequeno Olimpico
3) Stukita
Other particpants: Super Halcon, Genesis, Oro Jr., Ultimo Dragoncito, Apocalipsis, Acero, Pequeno Warrior, Leono, Demus, Gran Guerrero, Zacarias, Pequeno Halcon, Pequeno Nitro

Intermedios Category:
1) Electrico
2) Akuma
3) Puma – originally competed in Principiantes but moved up.
Other Particpants: Soberano, Esfinge, Metalico, Namajague

Femenil Miss CMLL:
1) Dalys
2) Dark Angel
3) Estrellita
Other Particpants: Marcela, Princesa Sugehit

Avanzados Category:
1) Astral
2) Sensei
3) Tama Tonga
Other Particpants: Mr. Niebla (wearing his afro wig), Delta, Vangellys

Astral won the overall competition.

The actual competition was preceded by a tumbling demonstration by Arkangel’s students, as in recent year. Sons of Mr. Niebla & Villano III were among those students. Villano III’s two sons (Hijo/Junior) have wrestled in the last few months on tiny shows he’s main evented. Mr. Niebla’s son was shown in one of the season 2 episodes of El Luchador. That same season included a few meals at Rush/Mistico’s home, and they appeared to have many brothers/sisters, so it’s not a big surprise to see one of them training (though there was no hint of that on the show.)

Previous years included a Minis division and a Student division. The students did pose but there were no rankings announced (everyone was just congratulated.) The minis division had been superfluous in recent years, with many of minis participating in the other categories.

Dark Angel had won the previous seven years of this contest and had previously said she would not be in this one. The reversal was a surprise, and no more explained than her announced absence. Dalys had finished second the last four years in a row.

Puma and Ultimo Guerrero gave masks to Vanguardia Deportiva, the sponsors of the contest.

Advanced category winners by year
2006: Olimpico
2007: Ogun
2008: Polvora
2009: Molotov
2010: Rush
2011: Valiente
2012: La Sombra

Polvora’s elevation from the the openers started right after he won the 2008 contest. Rush, Valiente, and SOmbra all received more attention, but may have gotten the same had they finished second.

Sensei won the intermediate group last year and was the overall winner last year, but did not seem to benefit from it.) And for all the years Dark Angel won the contest, it did not get her closer to a CMLL world women’s championship reign.

There a lot of things which greatly annoyed me about the bodybuilding contest. It was actually Genesis, a poor quality luchador gifted with a spot on the CMLL roster choosing to improve his look over his technique (and how it was the correct decision) which set me off yesterday, but there’s plenty of other things to pick at here. At the same time, people have clearly worked very hard for long periods of time on this and it feels over the top just trash the whole thing.

Dorian Roldan announced Guerra de Titanes will take place in the Auditorio de la Gente, Tepic, Nayarit on 12/08 and posted the preview poster on Twitter. Auditorio de la Gente just opened this October and seats 12,000 people. The lineup for that show should be out as soon as Saturday

Electroshock notes he’s been Megachampion and beaten Kurt Angle, so he’s a worthy challenger to Blue Demon. Plus, Demon travels a lot and he feels the belt should be defended in AAA.

The poster for the Korakuen Hall FantasticaMania shows include Liger, Tanahashi, Nakamura and BUSHI as NJPW luchadors.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Rob has highlights of CMLL 04/12/13 and random thoughts on this week’s TV.

Last night’s Tercera Caida had highlights of ChilangaMask and interviews with Ovett & Ciclope to hype the DTU show in DF this week.

Cronicas y Leyendas looks back at the odd trio of Vampiro, Mil Mascaras and Atlantis and the trio of Fuerza Guerrera, Heavy Metal and Negro Casas.

Aeroboy talks about his upcoming CZW trip.

El Martinete says fakes have been posing as LA Park using the @LA_ParkOriginal and @laparktapiia names. The last is still up, using a fake verification check as it’s background. SuperLuchas quoted the first one in a post and hasn’t taken it down. @laparktapia was believed to be LA Park’s authentic Twitter account, but he hasn’t used it since August.

The Nosawa promoted show with Mil Mascaras & Dos Caras’ billed final match as a team will also include Pantera versus Hijo del Pantera.

La Sombra enjoys airport food on the way to Japan. The tag team tournament kicks off Sunday.

Puebla’s university will host a panel discussion and movie screening of lucha libre tomorrow.

Atlantis takes Manhattan.
