AAA on Televisa #920 (01/09/2010)
Recap: 01/11/10

Another 2h30m episode of this. AHHH.

Preview of today's matchup.

Electroshock, Latin Lover, Silver King, La Parka discuss the title mach. I think. My recording loses Electro's sound a couple times.

Hype for today's matches: Wagner/Mesías first and then the tag team title match A lot of hype on Marco's failed superman dive last week, hitting the top rope with his knee, followed by a screaming Hermandad promo.

Highlights from last week's minis match, focusing on Divina getting hurt, and then showing the eliminations from there, and Abismo getting the belt. Then, onto highlights from the hair match.

Break, and highlights from Cibernético / Mesías.

Announcers discuss the show and the opening fireworks are shown – just like last year, which kills of the rest of this first half hour. This show was laid out like they didn't actually expect to have the half hour and had to fill.

Nicho & Lider

Match 1: Jack Evans & Marco Corleone vs Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario for the AAA World Tag Team Championship
Centro de Convenciones, Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, 12/11/2009

Winner: La Hermandad
Match Time: 6:19 (2:08+4:11)
Rating: very limited due to Marco's injury
Notes: Tag champs are wearing bloody doctors' scrubs for reasons only know to them. Marco is limping on the way to the ring. Rudos try jumping him as he comes in, Marco lays them both out with punches for a while, but Lider ends up ducking one and clipping the bad leg. Elbow drops to the bad left knee. Jack rushes out (as soon as his match plays), diving into the ring in between the bottom and middle rope and attacking Lider and Nicho. Cartwheel kick takes out Lider, front flip kick takes out Nicho. Hijo de Tirantes is the ref, so this should go well. Double clothesline misses, Jack hits them both with a springboard somersault reverse back elbow. Nicho misses a clothesline, Lider big boots him down. Tirantes throws Lider a chair, and Lider throws it at Lider's knee. Nicho take the chair and works over Marco again. Legdrop to the bad knee. Lider picks up Jack, loads him in a Gory stretch, behinds him over for a reverse facelock, and then snaps him back on his face. Jack makes a comeback off a missed corner whip, but ends up taking a two man backcracker. Rudos continue to be in control as they go break.

Rudos keep Marco on the outside and Jack on the inside, though they beat up both of the and go after Marco's bad knee a lot. This match has neat double teams on Jack – another double team backcracker is really well done – but not much else to offer. Rocky Romero randomly runs to the ring to springboard dropkick Lider. There's no real set up, I guess he got bored too. Clothesline for Nicho, clothesline for Nicho, clothesline for Nicho, Rocky rips off his own shirt and shouts. Hijo de Tirantes will allow the blatant interference. Rocky is whipped into a tope on Lider, and Jack takes on Nicho with his spin kick to the head. Jack connects on his dive to the floor – Nicho almost standing next to the apron and Jack landing about on his head. Jack brings Nicho back in and goes up top – 540 senton connects. Arturo goes nuts for that one. One – and Hijo de Tirantes will stop counting to yell at Rocky. See, that's the problem here. Marco had been laying down near the steps, but has made it back to ringside. Still not on the apron. Jack lets go of his pin, he and Nicho go thru a few things not actually showing clearly, Jack gets a wristlock, Nicho rushes to the ropes, and Marco clocks Nicho with a chair. Jack backslide Nicho and bridges over him one – and Hijo de Tirantes breaks it up himself. Jack argues with him, but meanwhile Lider takes out Marco with a dropkick and ambushed Jack form behind with the forearms. Nicho and Lider set up chairs in the ring, at least all the ones they can find that aren't broken. Meanwhile, Rocky tries to get Marco to stand up on the outside. Jack makes his own comeback, springboard of one chair to give Lider a kneelift, and jumping of the chair again to jump at Nicho on the top rope, only for Nicho to kick him on the way up. Lider finishes setting up the chair, sets up Jack on his shoulders, and Nicho adds a blockbuster to his fallaway slam on the chairs. Nicho covers, one two three. Well, that was about as long as that needed to go. Marco tried to crawl, but Lider cut him off.

Champs give the belts to Hijo de Tirantes to pose with them. Marco's helped to the back by his friends.

Edecanes bring out the trophy for the winner – a bracelet. More of a gauntlet, long enough to cover up maybe half my forearm. How odd, but how AAA.

Zorro has a cape tied around his head. I am not surprised. His black and white vertical striped pants are an interesting look. Oh, wait, isn’t a cape, it's the flag of Spain. Latin Lover is wearing a Santa hat, and strips off his Santa shorts to get to his trunks. His music is getting bleeped, of course. Clearly, a man who will not compromise to use a clean version of his music. Parka is out last, and I've got to note that the AAA entrance videos look new and very improved. Break before in-ring introductions.

Match 2: Latin Lover vs Zorro, La Parka Jr., Chessman, Teddy Hart, Octagón, Alex Koslov, Rocky Romero in a Number One Contenders Match for the AAA World Heavyweight Championship
Centro de Convenciones, Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, 12/11/2009

Winner: Latin Lover
Match Time: 15:12
Rating: alright, but nothing memorable.
Notes: Even though this match is basically single winner and a Cibernético, it's worked like an atómicos. Rocky, Parka and Octagon get runs before Rocky comes back in for another turn. He gets the better of Alex, rallies after being superkicked by Zorro, topes Alex – who hits him with a chair on the way out. Thrown back in, curb stomp, face pulling STF, and Rocky’s done.

Latin finally comes in next, knocking Alex around. Alex gets him down long enough to lay the Russian flag on him and go up top, but Latin moves out of the way of the frog splash and pulls Alex in casita to eliminate him. Break.

Teddy nearly kills Octagon with a Michinoku Driver, then adds a top rope shooting star press to eliminate him.

Parka punches Teddy around, clowns around, lands a middle rope legdrop, and the seems to have no idea what he wants to do next. He doesn't have zero ideas, he has many in a short time – first a double armbar, then a chinlock, then punches to the head, then a cover, and that's good enough for the fall. Teddy was giving up the whole way there, though he kicked out at 3.000001. Not sure why he didn't just do the pinfall after the legdrop, or why they're showing replays of it after.

Chessman throws Parka around, but misses the top rope moonsault. Parka gets him in a bodyscissors to eliminate him.

Zorro gets the better of Parka, but Latin takes away the cane before the final shot. Those two reverses sunset flips, Parka sings, and Latin gets hit by mistake. Parka checks on Latin, while Zorro gets a hold of the cane. Latin gets up, but is out of it, and Parka walks right into Zorro’s cane flurry. Piero watches him use it, and counts the pin anyway.

After Parka is pinned, Latin is totally fine, and going for quick roll ups. Zorro keeps kicking out, though really close. Casita is reversed this time, and Zorro ends up on top for a shot 2. Sunset flip count spots leads to Latin kicking Zorro in the back of the head cover, one two no. Latin gets the crowd (already dead) into the match before he and Zorro have a punching battle. Corner whip, reversed, Zorro misses the charge, Latin set up behind him, kicks him when the turns around, jumps on his back, and get the sunset bodyscissors powerbomb. One two three. Latin celebrates. This was nothing special. Piero put the bracelet on his arm, which is at least different. Zorro seems more amused than anything.

Latin is happy for the opportunity against whoever it turns out to be.

Match 3: Dr. Wagner Jr. vs El Mesías for the AAA World Heavyweight Championship in the domed cage
Centro de Convenciones, Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, 12/11/2009

Winner: El Mesias
Match Time: 36:29 (8:07+8:57+7:02+7:48+4:35)
Rating: tedious and bad
Notes: Mesías has multicolored druids this week. That's just very special. He also has a Roman Gladiador helmet for reasons unclear. Maybe he beat up Silver King and Ultimo Gladiador? Dr. Wagner has a nurse, automatically making him cooler than Mesías. Mesías climbs the cage while Wagner is taking his time entering, then just climbs back down. Lots of junk already loaded up in the ring, and Wagner has his own Singapore cane with him. Piero is ref. Show has 53 minutes left in the hour, and I really have no use for this.

They try to popcorn tin shots to the head, and MMA spots for finishes, but the problem is we're watching a TV show, and it's very clear the match isn’t going to end 45 minutes fro the end of the TV show. They go those spots way too soon for the time they're planning on going. Plus, there's two tables laying in the ring, so nothing matters until they get set up. Until then, it is guys doing moves for a few minutes, then the other guy popping to life, combing back, and doing moves for a few minutes.

Crowd does seem more mixed than usual, but not as boisterous as usual

First table set up 14:31. Mesías gets backdropped thru the first table just shortly after it is set up, but the other table sits there ready to go. One of the many problems with this match is there’s no escalating violence. They started out with tin can shots, did other stuff, went back to them, did other stuff, went back to it. This match does not build to a climax in any way, it just wanders until it get to a finish, and both guys come off as very limited guys repeating the same few spots.

Mesías is bleeding after the third break, from a can shot, but is back fine a few seconds later. That's how it goes.

After Wagner kicks out of a Mesías powerbomb at 27:31(neither man having tried their finishing hold yet), the WagnerManiacos appear and start climbing the cage. Wagner and Mesías watch, Wagner waves them off, and the WagnerManiacos hang on top of the cage for a while. They must've missed his signal, but Electro alerts the other two they're meant to be coming down. In the meantime, Wagner use the distraction to get rollups. Wagner tells them to get down again, and they climb back down the outside. Piero argues with the WagnerManiacos and tells them to go to the back while Wagner sets up the last table in the ring. Mesías and Wagner screw around not on the same page – then Wagner sets Mesías on the top rope facing out. Wagner climbs up with him, and smashes his head into the cage. Two people start chanting Wagner, and Wagner has to stop and look at them. Wagner climbs over Mesías and they both brawl slowly on the top rope. Camereman man who climbed up on top of the cage to film this is far more interesting than this match. Break.

Mesías pulls Wagner off the top rope with a move so bad, I can not hope to identify it. A DDT? A move by Wagner? Wagner’s the next one who actually moves, Mesías out on the mat. Not surprisingly, Wagner's the one who seem to have a lot more energy, while Mesías looks like the one who's not much faking his exhaustion, Mesías smashes Wagner’s head into table and tries to draw from the crowd, but there's two people cheering. Crowd is as tried as Mesías is at this point. Wagner just gets back up and headbutts him. They're in no hurry to get whatever spot, or they have no idea what spot they're suppose to get to. Mesías back elbows Wagner for a while, but Wagner just ants buy him to set up the chair. Mesias tries to sit on the top turnbuckle, kinda falls off, and kinds has to set himself again. Wagner adjust the table some more, which is uneven for some reason. Mesias climbs up the ropes with Wagner again, both stand back to the table, Wagner waves to the crowd as the crowd either cheers for him or boos. Instead of doing the backwards dive thru the table, Mesias turns around and tries to life Wagner up on his shoulders. He's got it, but only because Wagner can hold onto the cage to keep himself up. Kinda FU thru the table, Mesias falling on top. Mesías gets up to properly cover, with Wagner still on the table. Piero takes his time getting in position, and argues that one of Wagner's shoulder’s is not actually down. This is not the time for that argument! Of course, this means it goes on for a minute. Mesias may actually hit Piero here, but AAA is showing Wagner’s shoulders instead. Replay of the move as Mesías give sup and drags Wagner off. Cover one two no. That whole last covering should've been edited off and it's really stupid that it wasn’t. Indefensible dumb. Here's another replay of the move.(Clip?) Mesías suddenly has Wagner in Martinete position – gives a thumbs down, and drops him. One two three.

No big pop. They were more exited about the last move than this. Announcers point out how the martinete is legal in this match, while Piero waves for help. Mesías grabs the Singapore cane, and then just starts wacking Piero in the head with it. I'm not sure this is planned – Piero gets hit 3 times before he realizes he should sell these. Piero falls down, and Mesías continues to kill him with shots. What a great técnico.

Clip ahead to a replay of the finish, and to Mesías celebrating with some fans. I hope that's a girlfriend that's he's kissing the way. Piero goes over to the announcers to cut the usual promo. Replay of Roldan raising the giving the title to Mesías, which wasn't actually shown. Mesias finds more fans to celebrate with, while the bleachers look to be rapidly emptying out.

Replay of the finish, and Latin winning the title shot. Also, Fabi taking the hair, and Cibernético screaming like a mad man.
