AAA Mini Line - 05/10/08 (#832)
Recap: 05/31/08

Recap: Konnan's "Big Surprise" from last week - Teddy Hart & Jack Evans as the New Hart Foundation. We get about 5 seconds of Teddy Hart promo before moving on to the Apache saga. The non-finish of the main event is also shown.

The dramatic TripleMania teaser package.

Vignette: Porky and Abismo have a conversation. Porky's hair is getting long. I don't think he's used to paying for his own haircuts. Anyway, Porky tries to be friends, Abismo says he doesn't need a partner, and Porky says he does tonight to team against the Vipers. Abismo kicks him out of the ring.

Match 1: Babe Rap, Tigre Cota, Principe Diamante II, Street Boy vs Rio Bravo, Black Mamba, Tito Santana II, Animaniac
Plaza de Toros de Torreon, Coahuila, 04/05/08

Winner: Tecnicos
Time: 9:55
Notes: This must be the dark match from the previous taping, because it's not the opener I've got listed and it looks like that building. It's picked up right before the bell, and Copetes is ref.

I just spend the time trying to figure out who's in here and don't really - Robert figures out the names later. Standard tecnico showcase -> beatdown -> comeback structure, with everyone keeping it moving and the match giving more time than I would've thought. Babe Rap and Principe Diamante hit simultaneous top rope shooting star press/450 splashes for the win, with Copetes counting very slow but still counting three.

Vignette: Which can't decided if this is a backstage stick, or a Mr. Niebla promo. Anyway, they make fun of tecnico Abismo.

Match 2: Operativo R-15, Picudo, Toxico AAA vs Argenis, el Ángel, Gato Eveready
Gimnasio Agustin Milian, 04/10/08

Winner: Tecnicos
Match Time: 7:49
Notes: Not exactly the biggest hour in the history of this show. Arturo welcomes R-15 back to the show. Argenis has a black outfit. They should've gone with that to start with, done him up like he was Mistico Negro. Gato is just Gato here.

Rudos jump tecnicos before the match even comes back form break. Crowd is insanely loud or overmic-ed. Both are possible in this building, but they're definitely peaking out the microphones. Beatdown is okay, but Picudo seems to clear out the ring so he can have an awful sequence with Angel. I can only figure they're not using crowd clip spots this week, because they were begging for it. Picudo ends up on the outside, and Angel follows with an Asai Moonsault, but Angel flings himself far and that side of the ring is close to the barricade anyway. Picudo catches Angel's upper body, but Angel's legs fly over his head and smack on the top of the barricade. That looked crippling, but Angel is grabbing his head and not his legs. Those two are shoved out of the way by R-15, as Argenis and Gato Eveready can do their stereo topes to that side. The crowd is tight around the ring, so hopefully someone remembers they have a huge empty aisle to use. Replay shows Angel turned his body just enough on impact that maybe he hurt only one of his legs. Then again, there his is back in the ring, behaving like normal. Lots of triple spots. Picudo gets tossed to the apron, sits there, and then gets up and argues with the fans just as Argenis gets there with his dropkick (which whiffs instead.) The fans yell at Picudo, Picudo gets back on the apron, Argenis dropkicks him off this time, and Angel gets him with a top rope plancha. Four way action with the rest of the guys, and the tecnicos tease stereo ropes again. Rudos dive, so tecnicos kick them down, climb the same corner, almost lose their balance, and then - well, it clips away as Gato jumps and Argenis seemingly slips, then clips back during Argenis' plancha. The Mexican Trios champs, they're not. Picudo and Angel back in, and Picudo drops Angel with a wheel barrow suplex. Picudo points to the card, but Angel drop toe holds him and gives him the 619. Frog splash, one two three. Crowd is way too excited for Angel beating Picudo.

Noti AAA
- Charity show at a children's hospital. Novatos match, minis match, Kenzo match.
- Intocable's looking for new backup dancers. Did this ever go anywhere? Oh, apparently there was a contest in Toluca which we are spared except in this clip form.
- Abismo Negro opened a restaurant! For real.
- AAA will be at the lucha libre expo.
- Jack Evans and Teddy Hart, you know. A Konnan's promo get cut down to a wordless clip as well, yay.

Match 3: Nygma, Polvo de Esterllas (c), Yuriko vs Casandro, Pasion Cristal, Pimpinela Escarlata (c)
Gimnasio Agustin Milian, 04/10/08

Winner: Night Queens
Match Time: 10:00
Notes: The Night Queens are 100% tonight, gimmick wise. Polvo still has his shovel, which I still don't understand. Nygma has his cane, so they have two weapons for the finish. Despite AAA's web preview mentioning that Pasion Cristal was supposed to be part of a new group Pimpi and Casandro were forming here, she just shoed up like a random exotico filling out the sides.  His outfit does sorta match, but then an exotico wearing pink isn't that big of a thing, and Casandro and Pimpi are dressed exactly alike. Break in the middle of the captains announcement. Pepe Casas is ref.

Announcers have a digression about AAA being the promotion that made the exoticos big/important, which makes me wonder if this was the week where Maximo was inexplicably a big story. Tecnicos get about four minutes of showcase before the rudos start the beatdown, with a super bomb on Pimpi. Pasion Cristal takes a shovel/garbage can shot. Tecnicos turn it around quick. Casandro's whipped into the corner, and moves out of the way twice just as Polvo is getting ready to run. Polvo slaps his partners for trying to whip him, and then every stands around until they get dropkicked. I don't quite get that spot. Even more tecnico offense, with everyone getting staggered showcase dives. Casandro has the best, Pasion Cristal mostly blows his slingshot tope con giro, banging on the apron on the way down. Nygma and Pimpi have tough to believe near falls, because Polvo just put something - a wall picture? - into the corner and Nygma keeps going for his cane, and the match isn't going to finish until either of them go to play. Pimpi rolls up Nygma when he tries to go for his cane, but Nygma eventually breaks free, swings, misses, and gets it pulled away by Tropicasas. While they struggle, Polvo breaks the picture over Pimpi's head and covers. If the picture was supposed to be of something important, we never actually saw it. Pepe Casas counts, despite all the fragments of picture still being in the ring, and that's the match.

Video Package: Recap of Lider and Juvi fighting, Familia winning, last week's promo and last week's result. They need to add the graphic to explain the tag match is next if they're going to do this before the break.

Vignette: Juvi and Lider talk in the locker room of echos. I don't think I could make out what they were saying if I actually had the script in front of me. Lider explains his plan last week was a great idea, it just happened to go wrong. Juvi doesn't accept that. Lider points the finger of blame at Juvi, which doesn't solve anything, and it seems like they're arguing about the ladder match again. They reach an understanding, if an understanding is "yelling at each other a lot." Juvi tries to make peace at the end, but Lider still seem steamed at him. The most important thing is the Mexican Powers, Juvi emphasizes again.

Match 4: Extreme Tiger & Halloween vs Joe Lider & Juventud Guerrera
Gimnasio Agustin Milian, 04/10/08

Winner: FdT
Match Time: 12:04
Other Match Notes: We see Joe Lider enter, and Juvi's just somehow already in the ring. Joe Lider gets to talk, to welcome back Crazy Boy. So why wasn't he there during that locker room speech? Crazy Boy dances his way to the ring, so I guess he's doing good. Both he and Lider have their tag team belts. He says he's coming back soon. Halloween takes time to rile up the crowd before introductions. Doesn't take much. Break.

Lider distracts Halloween while doing introductions, which just makes this take longer. Juvi and Lider both cut him off the second time, and this causes the fight to break out. MPs get the early advantage. Crazy Boy left when I wasn't paying attention, apparently. Hijo de Tirantes i ref. Halloween saves Tiger from double teams and pulls him out, so they can get in the teased a walk out spot. MPs continue to dominate when they come back, though Juvi and Lider seem to have issues when it comes to pinning Tiger. They agree to do it TOGETHER, awwww. Halloween hits everyone with a ladder to end the Hallmark moment and make me lose interest in this match. The confetti from the MPs entrance is still all over the ring. They have brooms in Mexico, don't they? FdT do moves for a while. Juvi eventually crotches Halloween on a post, and Lider body slams Tiger on the top turnbuckle. Back breaker/flying legdrop combo on Halloween for a near fall. Halloween slid to the floor, CHECK. Juvi gets stopped form doing the Asai again, and the FdT break out the chairs. They miss a chair shot in Juvi from the best but immediately show it on replay. Good editing, weird. Lider debates the ethics of using a ladder as a weapon with Hijo de Tirantes while Juvi gets beat, then ladder clotheslines Halloween and Tiger. Lider puts the lade around his head and uses it on Halloween, Tiger, and then accidentally gets Juvi - it's not like he was going for any one else (or that he actually had a reason to put ladder around his head), he just swung around for no reason and someone happened to be there. FdT chair the Lider, which causes Lider to take this off. Lider goes out, Tiger slide after him, and Lider gives him sorta F5 on the barricade. Halloween and Juvi in and I remember how I don't want to call every move here. Juvi lands the Juvi Driver, but Halloween gets the ropes on the pin. Lider comes back in while Juvi is holding Halloween up in a waistlock cristo, but of course Halloween moves and Lider gets Juvi. Lider seems more annoyed than concerned. Meanwhile, Halloween readies himself and spears Lider. How about a pinfall? Nah, Halloween will just sit around and with for even more chairs. A Ladder table is set up, Lider's set up on the top rope, and Tiger gives him a loose moonsault side slam thru the table for the win.

Juvi and Lider both need medical help after the match, Lider more so. Lider looks like he's seeing stars. They have a stareoff, and Crazy Boy calms things down before they can get out of control. He demands a team first pound and eventually gets it.

Vignette: In the locker room, Lider and Juvi are yelling at each other and Crazy Boy is just trying to keep them separated. Calming them down takes a bit more effort. We pretty much get a reenactment of the ring, with all the hangs in again, but Juvi and Lider angrily staring daggers at each other.

Vignette: Abismo Negro is jumped in the locker room by the Vipers. They stomp him into a shower, and handcuff him to the pipes. Well, Psicosis does anyway. Histeria is not quite as good. Niebla puts the keys just out of reach. Why is Niebla wearing a Chicago White Sox t-shirt? Abismo yells for help in a very insane fashion.

Match 5: Histeria, Mr. Niebla, Psicosis II vs Abismo Negro (no, not really), Charly Manson, Super Porky
Gimnasio Agustin Milian, 04/10/08

Winner: Vipers
Match Time: 5:21
Other Match Notes: Mr. Niebla gets a separate entrance. Fans chant for Abismo, so I guess they don't quite know. Announcers are confused, but get the fans to chant for Abismo so I guess they didn't see the last vignette. Black Abyss (I guess I'll use the name to keep it sane here) doesn't tip off the trick before the match. Valets appear to be impossibly wearing less than usual. The break occurs before Charly's entrance, because they're jumping him to start the match. Pepe Casas is ref.

The crowd is crazy for Charly. Noticeably, the Vipers and Charly, and Black Abyss backs off and doesn't get involved. Mr. Niebla and Black Abyss go face to face, but no fighting. Crowd still chanting for Abismo, but he doesn't help while his teammates are getting beat. I guess, given Abismo and Porky's argument before, he could figure this is just Abismo being his usual jerk self (though maybe he's confused why he changed gear.) CLIP. Charly actually sneaks a tag to Black Abyss, who's on the apron, but Black Abyss fakes coming in and stays out. Crowd is now angry with Abyss, and he and Niebla share a friendly chat. Beatdown/Abyss not getting involved continues, with the crowd getting more and more angry with him. Charly eventually gets a free moment to shove Black Abyss and challenge him to come in. Black Abyss does, and gives a fist pound to Psicosis. I don't think that's what Charly was looking for. Crowd switches to chanting for Charly and Porky. Beatdown continues. Charly finally makes a comeback, dropkicking two and punching Histeria around. Flying punch takes care of him, and Charly gets the other two again with a double clothesline. Charly celebrates, and Black Abyss takes him down with a clothesline form behind. Black Abyss celebrates, and Porky runs him over. Vipers whip Porky, give him a triple backdrop, and take turns sentoning him  before all covering for the massive pin.

Vipers beat up Charly a little more while Abismo Black Abyss congratulates Mr. Niebla on a hard earned win.

Backstage: A janitor finds Abismo Negro handcuffed. After first freaking out and bailing, Abismo is able to convince him to come back, grab the keys (which takes some work) and unlock Abismo (which also takes some work.)

Abismo Negro is instantly running towards the ring, and drops Mr. Niebla with a backbreaker. Crowd is excited once they realize this means he's the real Abismo. Clothesline for Back Abyss, Martinete Special for Psicosis - no, Histeria makes the save there. Crowd chants loud for Abismo as he gives Histeria the Martinete Special instead. Black Abyss congratulates him with a low blow, and the Vipers (well, those who aren't dead) stomp him. Psicosis eventually gets around to checking on Histeria. Porky tries to cover up the real Abismo Negro, who wants no part in such thing. They pay Abismo Negro's music again, and Black Abyss mouths along with the words. Perhaps he's Abismo Negro form around 2001?

Vipers leave, and Super Porky and Charly Manson get explanations about what just occurred. Porky holds back Abismo from rushing the Vipers again today.

Video Package: Mesias's Revenge video package. Lots of clips of last weeks top two matches.

Vignette: Cibernetico checks in on Chessman, who's got a hurt knee. Cibernetico's still very thankful to him for helping him win the title. He SAVED MEXICO by helping Cibernetico win the title. Cibernetico seems to wonder what the deal is with the brace. I imagine Chessman explaining there was a ladder match at Rey de Reyes, and Cibernetico being all "ladder match? Huh? First I'm hearing about that." It turns out, according to the WO.com recap, Chessman's ticked he ended with a knee injury but Mesias didn't get burned. Cibernetico figures Mesias having to live with the fact that he's not in a burn ward only because Cibernetico pardoned him is better humiliation. Doesn't make Chessman's knee any better. Chessman looks bitter and disillusioned after Cibernetico leaves.

Match 6: Escoria, Mesias (c), Ozz vs Electro Shock, Kenzo Suzuki, Zorro (c)
Gimnasio Agustin Milian, 04/10/08

Winner: Sect by DQ
Match Time: 18:07 - at least that's what I had it as, but that seems long
Other Match Notes: Only the captains get entrances (at least as it's shown on TV.) The other four guys are just standing around waiting. Crowd chants for Cibernetico, who is not wrestling in this match but happens to be a tecnico, unlike anyone in this match. Piero is ref. Something happens with Kenzo - he rushes out of the ring, there's a crowd shot, and then Piero is pushing him away from something. It doesn't seem to be the crowd chant, it seems to be something in particular.

Both sides discuss internally before actually getting going. CLIP, almost to the moment where the Legion rushes the ring for the beatdown. This goes on and on and I don't really find a reason to pay attention to it, to tell the truth. Amazingly, the Sect turns the tide by themselves, tripping up Zorro near the ropes, Scoria plancha-ing the other two, getting caught, and Ozz knocking down the pile after Scoria's caught. Sect get a brief run, and then it's just teams taking turns for showcases. Sect comes back with Ozz and Scoria surprisingly getting to do the work to set up the comeback. Lots of taking turns of control from there, though not particularly fast paced nor really interesting. Crowd, which gets into anything, not really into rudos vs rudos. Sect plays subtle tecnico, but not enough for the fans to care until Zorro tries to hit Mesias with a cane shot.

Mesias ducks and punches Zorro out of the ring (even the most generous shots can't hide how short these punches are). Zorro lays outside for a moment, then decides to come back in and gets the better of Mesias in their next sequence, dropkicking him off. Zorro's tripped up by Scoria and Ozz as they come in, but so do Electro and Kenzo, and the Legion dominates 3 on 2 while Mesias mills around the outside. Mesias actually has a reason for taking his time - he had to get a chair, and he uses it on all of the Legion. This week, the chair is apparently legal, because Piero just slides it out when Mesias drops it. Ozz and Cuervo get dives on Kenzo and Electro, then set up a table while Mesias and Zorro stand in corner and poorly pretend to fight. Electro's set up on the table for some sort of apron dive by Scoria, but we're all interrupted by Cibernetico. Electro vanishes off the table, Scoria attacks Cibernetico, and Cibernetico easily chokeslams him on thru the table. In the ring, Mesias charges Mesias, and takes a stunner. (Piero is waving the match off even before Cibernetico gets in the ring - so I guess the Sect win by DQ because of the table spot?)

Cibernetico waits for Zorro to turn around and spears him. The Toluca crowd is losing their minds, of course. Piero does briefly raise Mesias' arm before getting out of the way as he and Cibernetico go at it again. They roll around on the ground punching, and Zorro is content to to mock them both from a safe distance. Security out to break it up, but Mesias and Cibernetico throw them out to keep on fighting. Prez Roldan and his security come out,. and drag Cibernetico off Mesias. Bello Greco is helping. Mesias is left alone in the ring, but doesn't charge after Cibernetico. Somewhere in her, Cibernetico got handed his belt, and holds it up to aunt Mesias. Zorro is content to watch this with his cane. It's be cool if he just waited for Mesias to turn around and cracked him good. I was kinda waiting for him to do that both guys. Instead, Zorro just mocks Mesias as he leaves the ring to join the Sect.

And that's it.
