AAA Mini Line - 04/05/08 (#827)
Recapped: 05/04/08

Promo: Polvo poses in the ring, taking about his chance to be in the Rey de Reyes. Nygma's promo is out of it, and both of them call themselves exoticos. This is building to the lights out/glow in the dark match later in the night, where the winning tag team moves on.

Match 1: Jerrito Estrada, Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Histeria vs Mascarita Divina, Mascarita Sagrada 2007, Octagoncito
Auditorio Miguel Barragan de San Luis Potosi, 03/05/08

Winner: Rudos
Match Time: 13:02
Notes: No entrances. First minis match in a while (for me anyway) and the big Hell Brothers turns aren't being filed out. "Mascarita Sagrada 2007" isn't his official name, but we're just trying to distinguish this version from the other half million. Pepe Casas is ref.

Match is clipped early. Crowd is unaware or just doesn't care who's in the suit, because they're chanting his name early. Announcers are talking as much about Black Shadow and Rey Misterio early on as they are on the match. Crowd is really into the match or just well microphoned. Or partially dubbed, because there doesn't seem to be a spot where they just shut up real quick.

Really good minis match, with all the tecnicos looking good. The new Sagrada is the about the same height as the prior ones, maybe a little thinner and longer arms, and can do all the big moves the previous ones were doing so it doesn't stick out that he's a new person. His flying headscissors to the floor with Abismo looked really good, and those two have obviously worked enough together that they can simulate the chemistry Mini Abismo had with the previous Sagrada. Much better appearance then the last match.  Crowd died a bit when Mini Histeria and Jerrito had any sort of one on one dominance, but was otherwise into it strong. Probably too long, but no differently than any other AAA match. Finish was a bit botched: Abismo apparently wanted to catch Sagrada on a top rope headscissors and powerbomb, but lost Sagrada on the catch and Abismo ended up dropping Sagrada behind him. Abismo did a nice job of covering (figuratively and literally), then immediately rolled him into a knee bar for the submission win.

Promo: Alebrije and Cuije think they're going to Rey de Reyes. They are wrong.

Match 2: Killer Clown, Psycho Clown (c), Zombie Clown vs El Brazo, Gato Eveready, Gran Apache (c)
Auditorio Miguel Barragan de San Luis Potosi, 03/05/08

Winner: Clowns
Match Time: 4:55
Notes: Clowns are very excited this week. Perhaps it's because they know who they're facing. Zombie grabs a child, and Killer opens the bag to trap him in, but the bag isn't quite big enough - and security break it up. I can not even imagine the lawsuit if they did that at a US show. Lots and lots of zeros! Not that I think it's a big deal, because it's not really. El Brazo is dressed as the fattest possible La Parka clone ever, and I think a good percentage of the fans still think it's La Parka Jr. until he takes off the mask. We actually get to see Gato Eveready's dancing entrance, and he's lost the rapper. I don't think you pay for the rapper the week he's getting killed by the clowns. I have no idea why Gran Apache is in this match. Gran Apache has an expression indicated he has absolutely no idea why he's in this match and would rather not be. He rants to the announcers about being stuck with tecnicos - he's not tecnico. Apache does have his belt and will after this match is over. Announcers randomly mention India Sioux in a joke I do not get. Piero is referee. Announcers debate if this will last five minutes. I wonder if Gato Eveready being listed as "el Gato" is just a space thing or if they're already dropped the tie-in sponsorship. The ads are still there, so probably not. Break before this gets going.

Apache abandons his partners! He watches outside as the Clowns kill the tecnico clowns. Gran Apache smiles a lot, happy at the tecnicos pain while pretending to be a teammate. He throws Gato back in to get killed some. Whomever Gato is eventually turns out to be, he's quite a ham. When the rudos are finishing up with Gato Eveready, Apache shoves Brazo back in. Clowns destroy him with clotheslines and dropkicks. Apache fakes giving Brazo a message, then tries to throw him in - but Brazo reveres it and throws Apache in. Brazo begs off and sneaks out before violence happens, and Gato ends up in instead. Apache just want this match over, and it looks like the clowns may fulfill his wish. Big triple powerbomb on the cat, but no ever. Brazo willing comes in and tries to out fat everyone, but Killer Clown is too big to be knocked down by the fat. Killer backdrops him, legdrops him, Killer adds a move we barely see, and Psycho finishes it off with a frog splash. One two three.

Gran Apache didn't get touched! He is a great man. OH NO, he decided to celebrate with the clowns, forget he was the captain (so did I), and the Clowns remember they need to kill one more man. Apache gets pounced and clotheslined. Gran Apache has a chance to roll out, but does not! Whip, boot, and he's held on the ropes for the Guerrero sit. Pin, and they just made five minutes.

Clowns attempt to bag Gran Apache, but that's probably not going to work. Mari Apache runs out for the save and never makes it to her feet. Clown stomps her on the way in and triple powerbomb her for good measure. That was totally unnecessary but whatever. Medical help has to come out for Mari, who did get dropped hard, but it was pretty safe. Hopefully not hard enough to skip her match. I guess Billy didn't work this taping, but he should've thrown Apache in at the end to get him killed.

Noti AAA
- hype for the ladder match (250,000), Rey de Reyes, Mesias/Cibernetico (revenge), Scott Steiner, Eddie Guerrero tribute
- and that's it.

Promo: Psicosis runs down all the titles he's won - Rey de Reyes is next. Abismo Negro has a sparkly cape and yells a lot. Rey de Martinete = Rey de Reyes. ("hahahahaha")

Match 3: Abismo Negro & Psicosis II vs El Alebrije & Gronda II vs Nygma & Polvo de Esterllas in a lights out match, winning team advances to Rey de Reyes
Auditorio Miguel Barragan de San Luis Potosi, 03/05/08

Winner: Abismo Negro & Psicosis
Match Time: 10:35
Other Match Notes: Nygma & Polvo could not possibly be more exotico, with their neon pink and green outfits, waving fireworks and Cher entrance music. Did I miss the Gronda promo? It's probably better he doesn't talk. This is a lights out match, so everyone's wearing glow in the dark stuff (wristbands and shoulder bands if nothing else.) Gronda's glow in the dark gear appears to be his knee braces. Alebrije and the Vipers did this not so long ago that they can't just reuse that gear. Alebrije and Cuije have their belts that they never do anything with. Hijo de Tirantes a has a glow in the dark shirt and, even better, glow in the dark suspenders. HE might have just put tape on them, but it's still great. Break.

Hijo de Tirantes explain the rules to the participants. I wish they'd explain them to me. I think it's first pinfall, but it turns out to be elimination. I know the winning team advances to Rey de Reyes. Match is hard to flow at times. Night Queens and Alebrije have gear that looks really good. Abismo and Gronda don't really have much that shows up. I'm surprised Gronda didn't paint his muscles again. I wonder if it looks good live. Crowd does not seem to be in it as strong as they have other matches, and it might be hard to follow from far away. Abismo works with the rudos, a bit reluctantly, but alliances change pretty freely during the match. After an Alebrije dive, there's a clip to Gronda spearing Nygma and giving him the world's worst half crab, and Alebrije trying and failing to give Polvo an inverted nudo. Tirantes calls for the submission anyway. Psicosis and Abismo makes saves for each other when it's down for two teams, playing this fair more straight than you would've figured. It's also to their advantage that Gronda seems to disappear - he's whipped, takes a double elbow, rolls out, and disappears for minutes. Alebrije gets a near fall on Abismo with a  big German suplex, but there's no one to stop Psicosis from breaking it up. Psicosis spinebusters Alebrije and starts for a standing figure four, but Abismo shoves him away. Psicosis is naturally annoyed, and shouldn't that have gone the other way? They start fighting, and Abismo gives attempts to give his partner a Martinete special, but Alebrije breaks it up. Wait, why would he do that? I have no idea. Alebrije and Abismo work spots, Alebrije kicks out of a plancha, and Abismo ends up getting him with a backslide after about a minute. So odd.

Psicosis tries to give Abismo a chair shot after the match, but Abismo see it coming and ducks it. Abismo and Psicosis roll around on the mat together for punches a bit, and eventually Hijo de Tirantes there is the idea he might get involved. And then it doesn't work and he gives up. Security breaks it up because the last thing we want is two wrestlers fighting on a wrestling show. Abismo gets into a fight with Hijo de Tirantes for old times sake. Abismo drops his straps, Hijo de Tirantes drops his straps and they go face to face. Just kiss already. Psicosis finally escapes security to attack Abismo from behind, and they go to a break.

Video: Brackets for Rey de Reyes. We seem to be two short still, but what do we have?
Group 1: Elegido, Mr. Niebla, Mascara Divina, Zumbido
Group 2: Alan Stone, Decnnis, Head Hunter, Pirata Morgan
Group 3: there is no group 3. Maybe next week!

Match 4: Decnnis, Scorpio Jr. (c), Zumbido vs El Elegido, Laredo Kid (c), Super Porky
Auditorio Miguel Barragan de San Luis Potosi, 03/05/08

Winner: Tecnicos
Match Time: 8:27
Other Match Notes: The girls love the Elegido. I don't think he could wear smaller trunks. Piero is the ref, of course.

Guapos jump the tecnicos. A big long clip when Super Porky's in the ring, which can only mean bad stuff. They cut all the way to the comeback, Laredo toping Decnnis while Elegido clotheslines the others. Super Porky stands around and eventually grabs Guapito. Elegido slams Guapito for Porky (can Porky not do it) and Porky splashes the mini. There's a big clip after this, as if Porky messed up his splash the second time. Like last week, they keep using the same exactly crowd shots, and so we've got another clip to take out of most of Elegido/Scorpio, then another crowd shot to take out large portion of whatever's next. The crowd shots take up a lot of time, which makes them stick out to even those paying no attention. Crowd anticipates the sunset flip moon spot even before it happens., which is sort of funny for something that's supposed to be accidental. Tons of camera sharking on Porky's movie, to a ludicrous degree. Laredo doesn't get the chance to look as spectacular as normal, so there's nothing of value here. Decnnis takes Porky's dive, Zumbido is backdropped to floor and stands up in time to catch Elegido's tope, and Laredo missile dropkicks Scorpio before he can dive. Near fall when Scorpio reverses a 'rana into a powerbomb, but Scorpio shoves Piero for counting too slow, also giving an excuse for the finish. Scorpio missed a dropkick, Laredo Kid slams him and climbs the ropes, Guapito stands four feet away and does nothing, Laredo hits the 450 (good!) and Piero has no issue counting a normal three.

Promo: ah, here's the other groups
Group 3: Abismo Negro, Super Porky, Psicosis, Aerostar
Group 4: Zorro, Billy Boy, Super Fly, Scorpio Jr.
note that Billy Boy and Super Fly's qualifying match airs NEXT WEEK. It would've been taped a week before this aired, so I guess that sorta works. Still weird.

Match 5: Kenzo Suzuki, Mari Apache (c), Zorro vs Billy Boy, Fabi Apache (c), Juventud Guerrera
Auditorio Miguel Barragan de San Luis Potosi, 03/05/08

Winner: Rudos
Match Time: 10:28
Other Match Notes: Crowd is chanting for Zorro even before he comes out, which is very fascinating. There's a very grabby fan near the entrance who's ensnared both Decnnis and Zorro in near death grips. She's getting what she wants, for sure. Mari appears to have shrugged off her injury of an hour ago. Pepe Casas is ref.

Kenzo does not approve of the Mexico chant. How strange. Arturo claims Kenzo is Mexican again. Legion teases walking out. Juvi walks up to them, all fired up, and Zorro is great at being dismissive. This show happened two months ago, so I already know the story they want to get across at the end is "Zorro thinks he's way better than this match", but I can already see it on his face. Lots of crowd shorts during a Billy/Kenzo chop exchange. I do not think they were covering up anything, just because I can not begin to imagine what they were covering up. And they do the stock cover up clip fifteen seconds later. If you're going to do a clip of the crowd, you probably
