Comandate was with Terrible. Terrible took the first with a cavernaria. Sombra caught him with a small package in the second. Comandante interfered in the third fall, but Sombra still won with a double moonsault. Sombra told Terrible he just proved he was better, and he’d be winning the Heavyweight title on Sunday. Best match on the show.

tecnicas took 1/3, Silueta pinning Zeuxis and Goya splashing Amapola.
3) Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Virus b Fuego, Starman, Triton

5) Niebla Roja DQ Pólvora [lightning]
Polvora pulled Niebla Roja’s mask in 7:25. Ultimo Guerrero ran out for the save, but Rey Escorpion ran in thru the crowd to help Polvora. Guerrero fouled Escorpion.
6) Tama Tonga, Terrible, Último Guerrero b Marco Corleone, Máximo, Super Porky

Estrellita won the Mexican National Women’s championship from Princesa Blanca in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara last night. It’s not a big surprise, Estrellita has been doing well in CMLL for the last year and they might have done this weeks ago if Estrellita didn’t cut her hand in a match and had to sit out for a few weeks. Marcela is the world champion, but CMLL presents Estrellita as the biggest female star. If you’re going to go with Estrellita, you might as well go strongly and having Estrellita with a belt is step in that direction.

It’s actually more surprising it didn’t take place on a big show. Blanca and Estrellita have been slightly feuding on the El Luchador show: an early episode included a pull apart when Blanca found out Estrellita was dating Puma King and tonight’s episode appears to center around the cage match they were both involved in. I’m still not sure if the A&E reality show makes a tangible difference to CMLL business – the worst period of CMLL last year was when season 1 aired – but it seems like worth trying to capitalize on it somehow. Right now, the only way they might be doing it is making sure Mistico is back in the ring just in time for the El Luchador episode where he becomes Mistico airs.

Princesa Blanca was champion for nearly 4 years. Amapola was world champion for most of that time, so they’ve gone in a couple months from the rudas dominating the championships to the tecnicas. (It also means the bodybuilding contest tomorrow is the only title Dark Angel is probably getting a shot at in the near future.)

Los Mazisos vs Queretaro locals, last one in loses hair or mask
8) Paranoiko & Pesadilla vs Halloween & Psicosis and Makabre & Super Mega

DTU tour. I think it’s neat how it’s not just Tulancingo & Mexico City wrestlers on the show, but luchadors from places they go to regularly (Guadalajara, SLP) are involved. Also nice is how they’ve getting tag teams together for an extended period prior to having titles (which I assume are coming sometime soon); it’s much better than the other way.

Whenever’s last week’s Fusion recap gets posted (2014), I’ll go over this again, but you really want to book Nicho el Millionario and not Psicosis I right now. Nicho is alright. Psicosis I has been back for months and hasn’t gotten a mask he can actually see and work out of it.

A long long time ago (earlier this year), Daga vowed he was done with DTU. He’s back because of the Perros del Mal deal.

I would guess a local is losing their hair in the cage match. But that must mean Loco Max has hair again.

DTU (SAT) 12/08/2012 Arena Margarita, San Luis Potosi

6) Ciclope vs Aero Boy, Drastik Boy [mask]
7) ?, Astro Latino, Jhonky vs Joe Lider
Mystery wrestler is a DTU trainee, as Lider takes on new wrestlers.
8) Pesadilla vs Cerebro Negro [DTU]
Pesadilla is the champion

Pesadilla is the DTU champion though Joe Lider still seems to defend this title from time to time.

Semifinal appears to be 1 vs 3 and not a four way, but I could be reading the poster wrong. The idea is Lider is going to destroy some rookies.

The three way mask match has been teased for a while. It’s a long term feud with an actual payoff. Those of us who just follow AAA and CMLL may be unfamiliar with the concept.

11/11 CMLL Arena Mexico results – Polvora wins the CMLL Welterweight Championship

CMLL

CMLL (SUN) 11/11/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Metálico, Metatrón, Molotov b Espanto Jr., Guerrero Negro Jr., Herodes Jr.
Metatron had a new mask. Tecnicos took 1/3. Second fall finish was screwed up somehow – Guerrero Negro was supposed to pin Metalico but Metalico left, so Espanto had Metatron pull off his mask for the DQ but the music guy thought the tecnicos won the fall (or thought it was supposed to be a two fall match. Rest of the match was not much better.
2) Goya Kong, Lady Afrodita, Luna Mágica b Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sugheit, Zeuxis
Sugheit replaced Dalys on Sunday. A Zeuxis tornillo in the second fall was the highlight of the match. Tecnicas took 2/3.
3) Delta, Pegasso, Sagrado b Cancerbero, Hijo del Signo, Raziel
Delta replaced Starman on Tuesday. Terra announcers said Euforia & Polvora were officially out of the group (or, those guys are going places and these guys are staying where they are.) Delta went for the moonsault in the first fall, but rudos cut him off and beat him. Delta’s mask was accidentally pulled off in the second fall (seemed like an actual mistake), then the third fall was a quick tecnico win. Cancerbero suffered a left shoulder injury.
4) Pólvora b Máscara Dorada [CMLL WELTER]
Mascara Dorada is champion. Polvora’s second was his brother Inquisidor, Dorada’s second was former Guadalajara trios partner Metatron. Dorada won the first with a torito, Polvora the second with a powerbomb, and then Polvora won the championship an Inqusidior Storm.
5) Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpión, Volador Jr. b Shocker, Super Porky, Valiente
Shocker is now using Gangnam Style. Escorpion powerbombed Valiente for the win.
6) Tama Tonga b Diamante Azul
Tonga pulled Azul’s mask to win again.

I did not see this show! Based on what I’ve read on Twitter – and used up there, thank Rob & Fredo – that sounds like it was a good thing. What I ended up watching was not much better and had a unsatisfying result though not as sad as the fourth match.

CMLL hasn’t had too many plans for Mascara Dorada this year; he’s just been around, and occasionally in Japan. He doesn’t have a set rival – they seemed to head that direction with Psicosis but then dropped it – or a tag or trios partner. The title match last fall with Mephisto seemed like a break thru moment, and Dorada has become a steady main eventer, but he’s one in need of a stronger support by someone in CMLL management. Dorada’s talent is not in doubt, but he hasn’t been able to use it as much as he should this year and this is a sad way to end it.

Perhaps next year will start better for him. He’s on FantasticaMania (and I’ll get to that next), the WON’s reported NJPW is high on him, and those shows are usually filled with title matches.

This had been an interesting year to be Polvora – he spent most of the year as national champion, he was somewhat humiliated in En Busca de Un Idolo, he had a few good title matches, and he ends up as a world champion (with the bodybuilding contest still to come.) This might not be the end of it for him; if you want to start New Mistico off with a full feud with a beatable guy, Polvora is your man. He’s worked well with guys working Mistico’s style, he’s got a title belt New Mistico could win, and he’s really got a mask New Mistico could win (and it’s be the right time for Polvora to lose it.) I would not have picked Polvora as a world champion because there was still mileage in him being an ex-champion trying to win a title back, and there are more deserving rudos to choose from, but this might be a start of a bigger program.

Tama Tonga & Diamante Azul is more easily understandable. I don’t think Terrible & Tonga are winning the tag titles on Tuesday, but I was so completely wrong about this title match.

CMLL (SUN) 11/04/2012 Arena Coliseo
1) Herodes Jr. & Ramstein b Bengala & Robin
Robin replaced Camaleon on Tuesday. Rudos took 1/3. Herodes pinned himself while pinning Bengala, but Tigre Hispano did not notice.
2) Hombre Bala Jr., Magnus, Super Halcon Jr. b Disturbio, Hijo del Signo, Zayco
Tecnicos took 2/3, Halcon powerslam into the buckles on Disturbio while Bala split legged moonsaulted ayco.
3) Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis b Fuego, Stuka Jr., Triton
Rudos took 2/3, Okumura superplexing and sentoning Fuego. Namajague hurt his left shoulder but finished the match.
4) Misterioso Jr. b Diamante [lightning]
Misterioso won in 8:57 via Gori SPecial.
5) Kráneo, Pólvora, Psicosis b Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Máscara Dorada
Dorada and Polvora feuded the entire match. The announcers suggested a title match between them before it started. Dorada surprised Psicosis with a pinfall in the first, Polvora powerbombed Dorada in the second, and they ripped each other’s masks in the third. A Mije splash beat Panther in the third, Dorada springboard splashed Kraneo to defeat him, and Polvora pinned Dorada for the win after a Valagueza into a low blow. Polvora made the title match challenge after the match.
6) Diamante Azul, La Sombra, Shocker DQ Dragón Rojo Jr., Tama Tonga, Volador Jr.
Tecnicos won by DQ when Tonga unmasked Azul. Azul challenged him to a singles match next week, Tonga accepted.

AAA’s TV announced a TV taping for 11/25 in Villahermosa, Tabasco. That would air the day before Guerra de Titanes. There’s no taping announced between this Friday’s taping in Puebla and this new show, so the Puebla taping is two weeks of taping. AAA doesn’t have to set up the whole card by the end of Puebla, but the main events should be clear.

Rob has highlights of 04/20/12 CMLL.

Mazambula was unmasked in Tijuana.

Dr. Wagner had fans scream insults at LA Park to end the Fusion taping.

SuperLuchas #487 has Fierro, Ultimo Guerrero and Santo on the cover.

Luchas 2000 #645 has Angel, Ultimo Guerrero, and Santo on the cover.

these trophies keep getting smaller!/CMLL

CMLL (FRI) 05/27/2011 Arena Mexico [CesarCMLLRecord (4)]
1) Starman & Tigre BlancoDisturbio & Mortiz
1/3 for team old man tecnico
2) Dark Angel, Goya Kong, MarcelaAmapola, Estrellita, Princesa Sugheit
1/3 for the tecnicas. In the closing sequence, Amapola took out Goya with a dive, and Goya’s right leg got caught underneath her. She was stretchered out and taken to the hospital for observation.
3) El Alebrije, Histeria, OlímpicoHijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Valiente
1/3 for the Invasors. Fantamsa took the swinging gate bomb in the third, and was pinned by everyone for the loss. Finally the Invasors have found the one guy they can beat!
4) Ángel de OroPólvora [Forjando un Idolo, final]
Switched around to the fourth match, so it will air on Televisa. First two falls were quick, Polvora using the nudo lagunero and Angel de Oro using a tapatia variant. Long third fall, Angel de Oro getting the win with a UG style front superplex. Sounded like a really good match, Polvora’s best ever.
5) Héctor Garza, Mr. Niebla, Último GuerreroBlue Panther, Strong Man, Super Porky
Rudos take 1/3, capitalizing on some tecnico miscommunication. Niebla & Garza double suplexed Porky for the win.
6) Averno, Terrible, TexanoLa Máscara, La Sombra, Máximo
Straight falls for the rudos, Averno specifically. Averno shoved La Mascara off of him into Tirantes, and Tirantes called the DQ on La Mascara in the first. In the second, Tirantes slow counted Mascara on a casita, Mascara turned to punch him, and Averno fouled Mascara and inside cradled him for the quick three.

Ras de Lona mentioned Naito is headed back again. Over in NJPW, Yujiro turned on him a couple of days and Naito was kicked out of the group, so he’s probably getting some time here before returning as a face there.

A lot of focus on Averno & La Mascara, thought I suspect more in the next couple of weeks. The post contract signing fight came off well, and Averno had a getaway driver when he stormed out.

Texano had a TRT shirt, so eventually Bucanero won’t look so goofy wearing a Doble T one. (Though Terrible & Bucanero were standing there in the same bit wearing the old shirt, so it may take some time.)

Things sure are busy for Guerrero Maya, who’s got a Sunday feud, a Tuesday title tournament (introduced all the guys in the tournament on Ras de Lona and doing a fine job) and is involved in Forjando un Idolo on Fridays. Is SuperLuchas sure they got the correct Guerrero who joined the programming department? (Kidding.)

Lineup

CMLL (FRI) 06/03/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Camaleón & Metálico vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Dalys la Caribeña, Lluvia, Marcela vs Amapola, Estrellita, La Comandante
3) Astral vs Pequeño Nitro [lightning]
4) Diamante, Hijo del Signo, Negro Casas vs Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Shocker
5) Ángel de Oro, Rey Escorpion, Último Guerrero vs Blue Panther, Fuego, Pólvora
6) Shinsuke Nakamura, Terrible, Texano vs La Máscara, La Sombra, Strong Man

Fourth and fifth matches are playing off Forjando un Idolo, with the vets teaming with their top two finishers. That means the return of Shocker, just about 8 days after they stripped him of his title for not wrestling. It was inactive for five months, why didn’t they wait a week more?

No Averno, though I’m sure he’ll impact this card some way.

Mascara vs Averno, unfriendly TRT, Polvora & Delta advance, Suicida shaved

CMLL (FRI) 05/13/2011 Arena Mexico [CesarCMLLRecord]
1) Artillero, Mortiz, Súper ComandoHöruz, Robin, Trueno
Rudo win, taking 2/3. Trueno took Mortiz’s spanish fly. Robin had a poor night.
2) Arkángel de la Muerte, Loco Max, SkándaloÁngel Azteca, Ángel de Plata, Pegasso
Rudos took 1/3.
3) DeltaRey Escorpion [Forjando un Idolo, quarterfinal]
Crowd got into this match. Rey Escorpion tried to cheat again, but Ultimo Guerrero stopped him and Delta eventually took the win. Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Escorpion had real problems after this one, shoving each other on (and off) the ramp.
4) PólvoraHijo del Signo [Forjando un Idolo, quarterfinal]
Hijo del Signo was the last Group Alfa (Negro Casas) member standing. He lost, and Polvora becomes the second group Delta (Blue Panther) member to get thru.
5) Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro, Stuka Jr.Euforia, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
Bonus match, added midweek (but not publicized.) Probably not airing.
6) Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, TerribleMáximo, Super Porky, Toscano
Rudos won, but Terrible & Bucanero turned on Zacarias and Negro Casas post match. Members of Fuerza TRT do not want anything to do with other rudos.
7) Averno, Ephesto, Último Guerrero DQ Blue Panther, La Máscara, Máscara Dorada
Rudos won in straight falls, with La Mascara angrily ripping off Averno’s mask in the second fall. More mask/mask challenges.

AAA (FRI) 05/13/2011 Arena Neza [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Montana Infernal & Muercielado NocturnoÁngel Mortal Jr. & Marabunta Jr.
2) Black Lancer, Okawa, Vampiro MetailcoCarta Brava, Hermano Muerte II, Hermano Muerte III
3) Mari Apache, Octagoncito, Pimpinela EscarlataMini Chessman, Polvo de Estrellas, Sexy Star
Mari replaced Fabi.
4) Neza KidMike Segura [hair]
Mike Segura lost his hair, so the mystery of Neza Kid lives another day (though it’d be more of a mystery if he wore a shirt and covered up his shoulder tattoos.) Ultraviolent match, though the finish was Suicida suplexing Neza Kid three times, reaching to pick up Neza again, and being cradles for the three count.
5) El Mesías, Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown Bestia 666, Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, X-Fly
X-Fly was over here instead of the TV taping. Monster Clown hurt his ankle and fought in one shoe for a while. Mesias gave Perro a backcracker for a clean win!

Crowd looks pretty decent, strong by Arena Neza standards. Curious to know who the ‘local’ promoter is.

The lucha news was dominated by WWE’s show in Mexico City, and their announcement of television tapings in Palacio de los Deportes this October. WWE will record Raw on October 15 (Saturday) and SmackDown on October 16 (Sunday). With tapings finally happening, the new dangling carrot was maybe running WrestleMania in Azteca Stadium (but they probably need to work on airing something live first.) CMLL tends to run a mid level show the second week of October and AAA runs the Heroes Inmortales show in early October, so this may affect both of their plans.

At the press conference, Big Show said Alberto del Rio reminded him of an actor, like Frank Sinatra (?) but he’s ugly and should go back to wearing a mask. I want to watch movies with Sin Cara.

Perros del Mal are calling their anniversary show PerroMania XIX.

Ras de Lona included an interview with Hombre Bala Junior and Senior. Good to see Senior on his feet. They actually sort of mentioned Psicosis’ poor outcomes in title matches (biased refereeing, naturally) and Psicosis talked about his upcoming international matches (including Lucha Libre USA, which I believe is the first time they’ve actually mentioned that group by name here; Marco was also spotted in the brief about Shocker’s restaurant opening.)

Looks like the CMLL TV changes from last week were not a one time thing; CMLL Fox is airing matches from last Friday, so LATV is likely getting the Mex trios title match today.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 05/17/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Leo vs Black Metal
2) Metatrón & Virgo vs Acertijo & León Blanco
3) Último Dragoncito vs Pierrothito
4) Delta, Diamante, Metro vs Ephesto, Scorpion, Vangelis
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Sangre Azteca, Toscano vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

Odd to see a singles non-title minis match here, but they’ve actually done this same match here twice in 2008, splitting the results. They’re 3-3 versus each other in singles matches all time.

CMLL (FRI) 05/20/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Bengala & Robin vs Bronco & Inquisidor
2) Dark Angel, Lluvia, Marcela vs Amapola, Estrellita, Tiffany
3) Delta vs Pólvora [Forjando un Idolo, semifinal]
4) Ángel de Oro vs Fuego [Forjando un Idolo, semifinal]
5) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano vs Metro, Super Porky, Valiente
6) La Máscara vs Averno
7) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Rush

Not too big of a surprise that match is not a title match; it hasn’t been about the title. Wish they’d put their big singles matches in the main event spot.

Back when Rey Bucanero was added to Peste Negra, it was because they needed another man. Mr. Niebla was not around. Mr. Niebla is back now, but history indicates we should not expect him to stay around forever. Yet, CMLL doesn’t seem to be concerned at all now, making sure we know Bucanero is split from the group. I hope that’s a positive sign about Niebla, but I wonder if it means they’re much less concerned about keeping Peste Negra going or they’ve got a new member planned.

Interestingly, Ras de Lona had Shocker in Mascara Dorada’s place. Must’ve been some hope he’d been back this week. Should be soon.
