Hair match in Monterrey, Pierroth tribute show in Cuernavaca, previews, France

PIERROTH (THU) 10/29 Arena Isabel de Cuernavaca [Dark Atlantis, dr_landru]
1) Cometa b Fuego
2) Comodin & Flama DQ Nahualt & Raksas
3) Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pierrothito b Leopardito, Orito, Pequeño Olímpico, Platita
4) Black Spirit, Canelo Casas, Guerrero Maya Jr., Turbo b Black Thunder, Hijo del Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Septiembre Negro
5) LA Park, Nosferatu, Oriental, Toscano b Fuerza Guerrera, Head Hunter I, Pierroth Jr. (2009), Veneno

In between the top two matches, La Nazi and Pierroth’s daughter brought out Pierroth himself. He was in a wheelchair, but was able to thank the fans and his fellow wrestlers (youtube video.) Leobrado Magadan was there as a host, many of the other wrestlers were in the ring to support Pierroth, and Veneno appeared to sing the Puerto Rico anthem as they presented a Pierroth mask to the new Pierroth. Who then got fouled and lost in the main event. I can’t have read that right, that make no sense.

Next show here is 11/19, with Toscano challenging Texano for the NWA LH title.

indy (TUE) 10/27 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC
1) Ciber Payaso & Solovino b Bello Rubi & Black Poison

4) Memo Valle b Silver Star and Pierko el Boricua [FILL LH]

Difunto lost his hair to Potro Jr.

Previews of tonight’s CMLL show
SuperLuchas
ESTO (focusing on Valiente/Dragon)
MedioTiempo has Brazo de Plata promising to demostrate “real lucha libre”, with all holds and moves. Uh huh.
OEM.
– Preview of Japan vs Mexico – oh, wait, that’s FIFA U17 soccer in Nigera, which will take place this afternoon. Might give Naito & Yujiro something to talk about later tonight.

The lineup is based around Porky’s first Arena Mexico match since May 19, 2006. It’s actually his first Arena Mexico main event since June of 2004, which was Porky, Canek, and Rayo de Jalisco vs Apolo Dantes, Dr. Wagner Jr. and Okumura. (!!) It’s the undercard that’s more interesting. Rojo/Valiente could be good (or it could completely fall apart; those two can literally be hit or miss.)

ESTO has the only preview of tonight’s AAA taping in Poza Rica. We still know nothing at all about Mantra. There’s at least a 25% shot it’s a mispelling for someone on the roster, right?

Speaking about the title match, Valiente says the deciding factor will be fitness. Valiente says his #1 priority is to retain his title, but he’s also going to try to give a great show for the public. HOORAY. I hope they win the Best Match Of The Night bonus. Which would require one actually existing, so CMLL needs to get on that. After this match, Valiente plans to take the world title from Averno, and then take Sangre Azteca’s mask. It’s good to have dreams.

Ultimo Guerrero wants you to know he only lost to Strong Man and Mistico this week because he’s totally hurt, and whoever wins the war is the real winner.

CMLL’s finally talking about the upcoming tour of France. Luchadores mentioned as going over are Sangre Azteca, Hijo del Fantasma, Stuka Jr., Valiente, Sagrado, Marcela, Hiroka, Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso Jr., and Nitro. That should be some good matches. They’ll be gone from 11/13 to 11/29, which means CMLL will have some people getting moved up into higher spots than usual. There are plans for tours in 2010 and 2011. For this trip, the CMLL wrestlers will be working at a wrestling school in Nanteree, France with the students there, and they hope to work out an exchange program. Tickets for the shows themselves, only 3 mentioned, will be from 30 to 50 Euros ($44.41 to $74.03 US, 578.49 MEX to 964.14 MEX). All info on the tour is at efm-fr.com

AAA is going to Six Flags Mexico on November 14 & 15, taping for both TV shows. Not sure if it’s just going to be vignettes like Ras de Lona or if they’re taping full shows.

Rio Bravo explains the dual Rio Brav situation: he decided he would not be working with AAA (for personal reasons, and also because he wasn’t getting enough work – not sure why he had personal reasons.) Fransico Cantu, the Monterrey promoter for AAA, sent someone else as Rio Bravo to AAA in his place. (So maybe AAA didn’t know they were getting a new Rio Bravo?) The original claims he should still own the name, though he does note Cantu is the one who gave it to him in the first place. He’s protesting this to the local commission.

Mauro Corinti has A Fighters Life, a 6 minute lucha libre documentary.

Kindergatern students were treated with a Santo film festival.

Cronicas y Leyendas looks back at PN News and Lola Gonzalez. Slightly different looks.

CMLL (SAT) 12/19 Arena Monterrey [RFC]
1) Pequeño Damian 666 & Pierrothito vs Mascarita Dorada & Shockercito
2) Stuka Jr. & Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr. & Sangre Azteca
3) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Máximo vs Misterioso II, Terrible, Texano
4) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
5) Héctor Garza, Místico, Shocker vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

First time they’ll be back since last December’s show.

Tuesday notes, Mistico in champs tournament, AAA upcoming tapings, Pierroth

Today’s Fan Apperciation Day in Arena Mexico, with Shockercito vs Pequeno Damian 666 in a hair match. Tecnico is always the favorite, but this one could go either way. Shockercito’s won his last hair match two months ago, Mini Damian lost his first hair match but has won the last two.

Horus also debuts today, and we lack almost any info on him compared to some of the recent arrivals. (Anyone seen Hijo de Sicodelico since his match?) Over on el Martinete, there’s a repost of an interview which doesn’t reveal much, but he claims to have been wrestling for 15 years. Over on Box Y Lucha, there’s a post suggesting this is someone who has been previously wrestling as Hijo de (something).

This week’s Ras de Lona lists Mistico, Mephisto and Epehsto among the eight in Block B of CMLL Universal tournament. Mistico did a promo earlier in the show hyping up that Kid’s Day show teasing a match with Pesta Negra, so perhaps this was a late change. The show talks with some of the participants, plus No Limit.

AAA lists taping for 06/17 (Ecatepec) and 06/20 (Orizaba). That’d be 3 tapings in a week, and that last taping would air about 3 weeks after.

Did Espectro get brought back by AAA? Not sure who’s working as La Chiva at the moment.

Jack’s still teaming with Teddy on the spot shows.

Lucha 2000 #472
Lucha 2000 #472

Luchas 2000 (SAT) 07/04 Arena Coliseo
1) Misterioso Sr. & Volador I vs Mano Negra & Rambo and Villano IV & Villano V and Brazo de Oro & Brazo de Plata
2) Lizmark Sr., Ringo Mendoza, Satanico, Talisman vs Black Terry, Blue Panther, Negro Navarro, Solar I
3) Cien Caras, Mascara Ano 2000, Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Sangre Chicana vs Canek, Cobarde II, Killer, Villano III

This is the benefit show for Pierroth, who’s on the cover of the latest Luchas 2000. I wouldn’t have recognized him if not for the mask.

Ephesto defeats Bucanero, AAA & CMLL schedule updates

CMLL (TUE) 05/26 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones, Avellaneda @ box y lucha]
1) ApocalipsisRamsteinRayo Tapatio IRayo Tapatio II
2) AmapolaCrazy StarLa SeductoraMarcelaSahoriStar Fire

4) FelinoMr. NieblaNegro CasasLa SombraMisticoVolador Jr.
5) EphestoRey Bucanero [CMLL LH]

Ephesto is the 11th Champion. Rey tookk the first fall, Ephesto took the second. In the third, Ephesto threw Rey out of the ring, where he hurt his left knee. The match was paused to check on Rey’s knee, and the doctor said Rey could do more, ending the match. Rey was taken to the hospital, and Ephesto got the belt. Could be a story, could be an injury, could be a real knee injury that they turned into a story to write him out, we’ll have to wait to see. Bucanero is supposed to be in Acapulco today, and then on the Sunday Coliseo show.

Can anyone think of a CMLL title change before on a ref stop? I guess they could’ve ruled it a CO too.

Total rudo night, and the main event wasn’t the only one affected by injuries. Rookies Star Fire (right leg) and Crazy Star (neck) both were hurt in the women’s match.

Shockercito and Mini Damian will have their hair match next week.

Lizmark says he’s going to retire on July 4th, after a Luchas 2000 Arena Coliseo show. Lizmark’s been calling himself self-retired in recent years, not having wrestled much in recent years. Lizmark says he doesn’t feel like he’s at the top of his game anymore, and probably wouldn’t beat able to successfully defend his mask, so he’s getting out while he still can. Lizmark plans to continue running his gym, and notes that he retired to do that one before in 1992, but was convinced by Antonio Pena on to join AAA and started up again. Lizmark feels his best work was in the 70s and 80s.

AAA says the next taping is June 7th in Pachuca, so that Acapulco taping was either a mistake or rescheduled. BTW, AAA mentioning me on their site and accusing me of professionalism feels so strange. “Critical of all promotions and wrestlers” is hilarious accurate. It is clear that I like lucha libre, right?

CMLL has an updated list of their June notable shows. Some of this is repeat info, but just to put all in one place:

06/02: Tuesday Fan appreciation show (Mini Damian/Shockercito)
06/08: GDL Sunday Fan appreciation show
06/12: Kid’s Day makeup show! There’s nothing kids like better than seeing part 2 of a three part pointless tournament. Actually, I take my hat off to CMLL here for it’s scheming – if you’re taking your kids to this show for cheap tickets, you’re surely less likely to walk up and buy tickets to TripleMania the next day. And it’s easier than building a match people want to see!
06/14: Sunday Fan appreciation show
06/19: Friday Arena Puebla appreciation show (plus the tournament final in Arena Mexico)
06/21: GDL 50th Anniversary show; the date is pretty close to accurate, so it may not be a show just to run against an indy show.

WagnerMania is closing on June 26th. The last part of the notice mentions they’ll be doing a new page on lucha libre, and I hope they do, because they’ve done a good job with the current site.

Kcidis looks at the evolution in rudo struggles.

Box Y Lucha has an interview with Matematico & Cotorreando con Box Y Lucha has a tearful interview with Axxel.

SuperLuchas has Santo gear.

Luchas 2000 #471 has Santo in AAA, the champs tournament in CMLL and Canek & Villano III on their own show on the 4th.

Segunda Caida watches 05/14/09 IWRG. Ohtani’s Jacket also checks out IWRG: Black Terry vs Fantasma de la Opera from 2007, and the 05/21/09 show

LuchaWorld has Robert on CMLL 52MX 05/31/08 and 06/07/08 and Cadena3 2/2/2008 – in retrospect, it’s great that they’ve forgot the Fabian/Diamante feud – plus KrisZ’s news update.

CMLL (WED) 06/10 Arena Coliseo Acapulco [poster]
1) Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito vs Saturno, Shockercito, Ultimo Dragoncito
2) Black Silver Jr., Hijo de Black Silver, Ludwig Star vs El Destroyer, la Orca, Pez Tigre
3) Cien Caras Jr., Euforia, Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG), Pierroth II vs Fabian el Gitano, Marco Rivera, Tony Rivera, Vangelis
4) Misterioso II, Terrible, Texano Jr. vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero and Lizmark Jr., Shocker, Veneno and Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V [Copa Pierroth]

Benefit show for Pierroth, which accounts for the IWRG names. Though, there’s been enough periodic rumors that the Junior Capos are headed to CMLL that I wouldn’t be surprised if this lineup is a hint.

CMLL (SAT) 06/20 Auditorio Benito Juarez [Notiver]
1) Flash & Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte & Skandalo
2) Dark Angel & Marcela vs Amapola & Princesa Blanca
3) Sagrado & Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr. & Sangre Azteca
4) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara vs Misterioso II, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
5) Atlantis, Dos Caras Jr., Ultimo Guerrero vs Mistico, Shocker, Volador Jr.

Intersting to see them do full shows for someplace besides Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara.

04/13: Mexico, GDL, Perros

CMLL (SUN) 04/12 Arena Mexico [box y lucha, SuperLucha, Ovaciones, proyeccion luchistica, Cesar]
1) Sombra de Plata & Trueno b Cholo & Semental
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Hooligan b Leono, Metalico, Molotov
3) Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara, Stuka Jr. b Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
4) Marcela b Rosa Negra [mask]
5) Atlantis, Lizmark Jr., Ultimo Guerrero b Dos Caras Jr., Maximo, Shocker
6) Negro Casas b Mistico [CMLL WELTER]

Negro took the first with a castia, Mistico did one of his own for the second. In the third, Negro Casas pinned Mistico when Mistico’s second (La Mascara) accidentally distracted the ref, and Negro took Mistico’s mask. The crowd booed Mistico. Stop me if any of this sounds familiar. In the usual mask vs hair mic work after the match, Mistico talked about liking boos, which is a sure way to get the crowd to cheer him.

Dos turned on his partners, of course, and rudos took in straight falls. They seemed to reunite Dos and Lizmark. If I was planning long term here, those two be the next challengers to the tag team titles, so let’s thank god I am meaningless. SuperLuchas did an interview with Maximo this week, and it sounds like he hasn’t decided if he’s leaving or not, but he’d be going to the indies and not AAA if he did.

Rosa Negra vs Marcela reads like a brutal match. Maybe not even in match quality, but in destroying the particpants. Marcela got hurt early on – Rosa moved out of the way of a dive and Marcela hit the stage – and SuperLuchas says she spent most of the match crying. Rosa Negra suffered what is believed to be a major elbow injury in the finishing sequence, and she was put on a stretcher after returning to the locker room, and taken to the hospital. Match still sounds like it’s pretty good, so I hold out hope it’s better than Villano V vs Ultimo Guerrero.

Rosa Negra is Jessica Dayna Hernandez, from Mexico City, 17 years a professional wrestler (and no age given.) The PL link has video (of the MVS video on the big screen) of her unmasking. Obviously, she didn’t stick around for the post match publicity pictures, so it seems everyone just took a picture of her while she was on the stretcher. Remind me never to be a luchaddor.

Molotov’s chin connected hard with the ropes in his match, taking him out of it and requiring seven stitches.

Cesar – who’s new blog looks really interesting – says Tuesday drew over 12,000 and Sunday over 10,000, though these are at Fan Appreciation prices.

CMLL (SUN) 04/12 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en El Ring, MT: 4, 5]
1) Leon Blanco & Thunder Boy b Angel del Mal & Infierno [torneo tanque dantes]
2) Palacio Negro & Samurai b Acertijo & Mr. Trueno [torneo tanque dantes]
3) Katana & Malefico b Boomerang & Gallo [torneo tanque dantes]
4) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Mascara Dorada b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Rey Bucanero b Volador Jr.

In the most important wrestling league format tournament to end on April 12 (except maybe this one), the favorites were robbed of victory in the final match. Palacio Negro & Samuari reached 8 points (4 wins, 1 loss) with their win. Boomerang & Gallo need to win to match, but Malefico yanked Gallo’s mask and covered him for the win, the first for his team in the tournament. That wraps up the tournament:

8: Palacio Negro & Samurai
7: Boomerang & Gallo (and Meteoro)
5: Leon Blanco & Thunder Boy
4: Acertijo & Mr. Trueno (and Rey Trueno)
4: Angel del Mal & Infierno
2: Katana & Malefico

Note the top 3 teams are the tecnico pairs. Rudos went 2-7 against tecnicos.

In matches people beside me might care about, Rey got Volador clean in the main event, with mask/hair challenges after. In the semimain, Panther caught Averno with an armbar for the finish and requested a shot at his title. Quick, which title is that?

PERROS (SUN) 04/12 Plaza de Toros, Texcoc [SuperLuchas]
1) Dr. Wagner Jr. b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Cibernetico

The bit they did here, and on Wednesday in Acapulco, is Cibernetico snapping on Perro Jr. after one too many accidents. It is about time for them to get a new main event feud and Cibernetico vs Perro sounds like it – they’ve already got it on the cover of Luchas 2000 #466.

Pierroth II and Pierroth Jr., talking about their recent benefit show for Pierroth and plans for future ones mention that Pierroth is in motor and language rehab right now.

Al Filo del Ring talks to the original Mascarita Sagrada, La Parkita and Octagoncito about AAA passing their names on to others. All have no problem with the men using the name since them – they’re just working under orders – but are unhappy with AAA trying to pretend they don’t exist and trying to keep them from using the name.

Super Astro thinks cage matches are crap lucha and should stop. I love Super Astro.

WagnerMania covers Dr. Wagner Jr.’s first AAA TV match, noting that AAA held a moment of applause for Abismo Negro before the main event. Mr. Reyes has tons of pictures of the show, from the upcoming Gladiatores report. AAA’s recap of the show omits the Juvi skit and mentions Fabi’s not happy with Aerostar for kissing her.

There’s a odd licensing wrestling situation in Los Mochis. Usually, when licensing comes up, it’s that the wrestlers haven’t bothered to get themselves licensed. Here, the wrestlers want and need to get licensed, and the commission hasn’t gotten around to issuing licenses. Local wrestlers have been prevented from working shows outside Los Mochis because those commissions won’t let them work unlicensed, but their commission is ignoring requests to hand out licenses.

Box Y Lucha 2918 has Dr. Wagner in AAA. The article headlines include two more AAA departures: Picudo, and Espectro de Ultratumba (one and done!). FWIW, “Mascara Divina” is listed as working a Villalobos card. Maybe he’s left AAA too, but it could always be one of her characters misspelled. There’s also a new episode of their TV show.

Ohtani’s Jacket checked out Atlantis, El Hijo del Santo, Tony Salazar vs El Satanico, El Dandy, Espectro Jr. from the mid-80s, and Mascara Dorada, Metro, Valiente vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus from this week. Why won’t CMLL just do the Valiente/Virus feud already?

CMLL (WED) 04/15 Arena Coliseo Acapulco [apux @ box y lucha]
1) Fuego Negro, Orca, Pez Tigre vs Black Silver Jr., Capitan Atomo, Hijo de Black Silver
2) El Guerrero vs Histrion [hair]
3) Dark Angel & Marcela vs Amapola & Princesa Blanca

First CMLL lineup I’ve heard in this building – which was a weekly stop at one point – since last November.

Previews: ESTO & Ovaciones. Quiet show, with as much attention being paid to the announcement of Cavernaro Galindo as the second legend of Dos Leyendas as the show. Ovaciones tries to hype up the possibilities of Flash vs Arkangel in a mask match.

Pierroth II is among those organizing a benefit show for the original Pierroth, still at home recovering. The plan is to run the show on April 3rd, in Arena Azteca Budokan, with indy wrestlers (Wagner, Mascara Sagrada, Huracan Ramirez, Pierko el Boricua and the Junior capos are the bigger names.)

SuperLuchas says the press confrence for the Lucha Libre Expo is on 03/24. CMLL matches are expected to be on May 2, AAA on May 3rd.

Canasanta has quotes from a Blue Demon Jr./el Hijo del Santo panel discussion in Colombia.

Kcidis draws angry Veneno.

There’s call for the Pacucha lucha comissioner to be removed from office, because he’s just handing out wrestling licenses to whomever.

The Llaves y Piquetes Box Y Lucha rumor column has all sorts of fun gossip, suggesting Wagner and Koslov would like to return to CMLL most prominently. They also say Bam Bam spent the night in the hospital after taking the martinete last Friday and Polvora & Pegasso were also hurt. They also hype a possible Black Warrior vs La Mascara in a hair vs mask match, so take this with grains of salt. The Rasgunos del Gato Manoso aritcle talks about La Hercihcera recovering from a tibia injury

11/20: Mistico to NJPW

CMLL
CMLL

(Strong Style Spirit) Mistico is going to NJPW for their annual 1/4 Tokyo Dome show. He was the big announcement of the press conference – over the TNA guys – so perhaps this will work out well for him.

Other notes from today’s Ovaciones:
– an update about Pierroth, who is stable but still in intensive care. RFC writes in more detail, and it sounds bad.
– the main event of next week’s Puebla show is Sombra/Shocker/Mistico (return there) vs Negro/Niebla/Bucanero, with Mistico being mentioned as 90 percent back at this point.
– Martha Villalobos is running a charity show for the Teleton.

AAA announced they’ll be part of the sports parade this weekend. I always love when photos of this (and CMLL’s float) turn up, but it’s funny to look at the long list of people who will be on AAA’s float and note who’s not there: no Cibernetico, no Mesias, no Chessman, no Charly Manson, no Konnan, no La Parka Jr., no Zorro, no Octagon, not even Elegido; the most important ugys are Silver King, Super Porky and Alan Stone. I don’t expect CMLL to be much different.

WagnerMania looks at Wagner vs Atlanits.

Ohtani’s Jacket watches the Bam Bam/Mini Damian title and hair match series.

LuchaWorld has Robert on 08/12/06 CMLL, a great AULL show from 10/11/06 and Alfredo (!)on Gimnasio Nuevo Leon 01/06/08 as well as KrisZ’s news update.

I thought CMLL was supposed to run a show here. Guess not any more. The AAA one seems like they figured out who was going to work the show, realized they couldn’t make the matches make any sense, and just decided not to care.
