Tapatios vs Bala/Dragon, Panther vs Casas, AAA rain out, DTU

CMLL (SUN) 04/17/2011 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Disturbio & MortizFreesbe & Principe
Mortiz replaced Semental
2) Dragon Lee DQ Rayo Tapatío IIRayo Tapatío IHombre Bala Jr.Hijo del SignoInquisidorSúper ComandoSuper Halcon Jr.Enrique Vera Jr.Artillero[cibernetico]
Eliminations where Artillero (Halcon), Vera (Comando), Halcon (Inquisidor), Comando (Signo), Inquisidor (Bala), Signo (Rayo II). That left the Tapatios vs Dragon Lee & Hombre Bala, the core of htis feud. Rayo I beat Bala, but Dragon Lee defeated Rayo I and was enroute to beating Rayo II again when Rayo I ran back in for the DQ. Bala made the save.
3) MagnusÁngel de Plata [Forjando un Idolo]
Magnus (3) defeated Angel de Plata (0) with a la de a caballo. Maybe Magnus is just a tribute wrestler?
4) PólvoraFuego [Forjando un Idolo]
Counter dropkick for Polvora (3) over Fuego (0)
5) Delta, Toscano, ValienteFelino, Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura
6) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Strong Man DQ Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.
Niebla did appear. Negro Casas fouled Blue Panther, and they made hair vs hair challenges.

Group Delta kicks off cycle 2 of the Forjando un Idolo match, with the winners (Polvora/Magnus) and the losers (Angel de Plata/Fuego) facing off. 6 points is probably enough to get you thru, and 0 points is probably end to end your hopes.

DTU (SAT) 04/16/2011 Arena Lopez Mateos [Black Terry Jr. (flickr)Estrellas del Ring]
1) Kalek b Joystick, Garra de Aguila, Guerrero Extremo, Arana de Plata Jr.
2) Chica Tormenta b Shitara, Megan, Lily Fighter, Princesa Egipcia [#1 Contenders, Reina De Reinas]
Keira was bumped out of this match for previously unmentioned Princesa Egipico. Chica Tormenta beat Lily Fighter to advance.
3) Keira b Vanely, Yuki Star, Lolita, Vaquerita, Ashley [#1 Contenders, Reina De Reinas]
Keira ended up added to this match, and beat Lolita to advance.
4) Sadico & Yakuza b Aeroboy & Samuray del Sol and Pequeno Cobra & Pesdailla and Black Fire & Ciclope
Black Fire was Ciclope’s unnamed partner, and Pequeno Cobra took his place as Pesadilla’s partner. Story of the match was Samuray del Sol going for a dive, not being caught by anyone, and landed very badly. He was quickly stretchered out and taken to the hospital, and there’s been no update as far as I’ve seen. Yakuza & Sadico beat Pequeno Cobra & Pesadilla.
5) Trauma I & Trauma II b Dark Dragon & Fenix (AAA)
The Trauma’s edecan got to do a strip tease.
6) Mari Apache b Keira, Chica Tormenta [Reina De Reinas]
Mari retained her title.
7) Zumbi b Hormiga, Daga, Flamita
Zumbi eliminated Hormiga, Flamita & Daga beat Zumbi, and Daga beat Zumbi to take it
8)  Violento Jack Drastik BoyChessman, Paranoiko
Chessman had the match won, but put Violento Jack on top of Drastik Boy to give him the win. This was better explained when Konnan appeared. Konnan took the rare opportunity to talk, mentioning how he and Halloween and Damian were hardcore a decade ago, and he had bloody battles with Perro Sr. & Cien Caras, so DTU doesn’t impress him. Crazy Boy came out to defend DTU. Violento Jack was recruited to the Milicia (or maybe just to represent them here), and Joe Lider vs Chessman for the DTU title was agreed upon.

Black Terry Jr. has video of Traumas vs Fenix & Dark Dragon.

Tonight’s AAA taping in Pachuca was rained out. After about an hour of waiting for the rain to stop, the AAA tecnicos came out and Joaquin Roldan announced the show would not happen tonight but instead be postponed on Sunday. (Which means it’ll still be airing on Sunday, if all goes OK.) Konnan led out the rudos to have a brief argument and shove down Joaquin.

I can’t think of a past occasion where this has happened to them, but they run so many of their TV tapings outside (probably more than all the other major companies in the world combined) that it must’ve happened before.

Perro Aguayo will be undergoing treatment for at least a year following the tumor removal, but there’s still no word if it’s cancerous. It’s also unclear if that year of treatment will mean he’s out for a year or will be able to return during it.

Psycho Circus won at Guerra de Promociones.

Forjando un Idolo matches

Supreme and BC Killer claim they only were paid half of what they were promised for the GLC show a couple weekends ago. Promoter only gave them that half up front, but promised the other half the next day, when he would take them to the airport. Next day: No money, no ride. This is the same promoter who was falsely advertising Matt Cross & Necro Butcher, but did some how find the time to update his promotion’s title history on the luchawiki the next day. Maybe that’s why he missed driving those guys to the airport! Priorities, you know.

I’m a big behind on my podcast listening, so I’ve just gotten to Sean Waltman’s (X-Pac) interivew on Figure Four Daily. Bryan was comparing post-Vince McMahon WWE to post-AAA Antonio Pena.

On parallels: “Uhh, Boy, you know what, I guess a little bit, but Bryan, if you were there like I was, you’d see it’s not nearly the same AAA as it used to be, buddy. Uh, um, I just have to tell you that Dorian Roldan is NO – and not even close and never will be an Antonio Pena. Uh, and, he’s got a lot to learn, and he’s kind of a spoiled little shit, and uh, I’m sure he’s going to love it when he hears I called him that, but that’s what he is. And he doesn’t respect his talent, and they exploit the living shit out of their talent, and, uh, and, um, they, you know – good thing they have people like Moody Jack Melendez there, who help write TV, and Konnan is, his body is really broken down now but he still, uh, very very intellgent mind for wrestling, and uh, it’s just that – I see, I see WWE being, coming out, coming out of the other end of Vince being gone in a little better shape than AAA.”

Waltman says he feels CMLL was “in the Stone Age” when he was going to work for them, and figured Vince McMahon would end up owning Arena Mexico. Waltman notes Paco Alonso is wealthy without CMLL and they make money just selling the parking places during the week. He figures either AAA or CMLL might be a development territory. Waltman notes the fans are much more patrotic, and their tickets are much more affordable than WWE.

Waltman calls AAA essentially an indy promotion with a TV contract, and say they’d be done with it. On if he’d ever work with AAA again: “I’m not saying I would never do anything with them again, but they did – they didn’t live up to one, one fricking term of our agreement. And I went back and like no-showed Paco Alonso’s 75th Anniversary show for them, because I made this agreement with them, and they didn’t live up to it. You can’t trust them as far as you can throw them, and that’s the truth.”

Waltman says he wasn’t feeling CMLL – he had short notice on them wanting a singles match, and they weren’t interested any of his ideas. “They had great wrestlers, just a few decent angles would’ve made a hell of a difference in that company.”

Waltman later singles out Zorro & Silver King as good wrestlers and complains about the lack of the psychology and working the right side of the body.

(I do take requests!)

SuperLuchas #410 has Mil Mascaras and Ryusuke Taguchi on the cover. Also, an interview with Hijo del Solitario, who explains the problem with CMLL is they have guys like Dragon Rojo on top and not guys like Hijo del Solitario (“has the experience of an Atlantis or a Mil Mascaras.”) Hijo del Solitario says, if his dad was a 10, he’s a 7. Must be a logarithmic scale. This is all to build up a mask match with El Santo.

Luchas 2000 #566 has Perro Aguayo Jr. on the cover.

LuchaWorld has #10-1 on the Luchaworld 2010 countdown, and KrisZ’s news update.

4) Hijo del Fantasma, Strong Man, Toscano vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Máximo vs Volador Jr.

I have no idea how they got there, but that’s a unique main event. Gen11 guys start turning up here this week.

CMLL (SUN) 04/24/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Meteoro vs Relampago
2) Hierro & Höruz vs Bobby Zavala & León Blanco
3) Metatrón & Starman vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
4) Fuego, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Shigeo Okumura, Skándalo
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Valiente vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Hirooki Goto, Último Guerrero

Hope Goto and the Guerreros can get along.

First Relampago/Relampago Azul match here since November. Some of the guys who disappeared last fall (around the time Gran Cochisse was let go) seem to be trickling back in openers here. They also just could’ve been bumped out because CMLL has been sending more DF guys here.

Perro Aguayo, Universal Tournament

Perros del Mal (led by Damian 666) held a press conference to update Perro Aguayo Jr’s condition. It wasn’t much of an update; they’re still waiting to hear if the tumor is benign or cancerous. If there’s nothing more to it, Perro could return around the Lucha Libre Expo shows.  For now, LA Park will be replacing Perro on most shows, though they note Perro was scheduled for the 04/30 AAA TV taping (card TBA) and that might turn out to be X-Fly or Bestia 666. They also handed out copies of Perro’s medical report to the press in attendance (part 1 & part 2 – with tumor pictures.) It’s weird, but it’s probably because of heavy skepticism of last year’s knee surgery.

The WON mentioned Mascara Dorada vacated the CMLL World Super Lightweight Title because the promotion is getting it’s ducks in a row for the Universal Tournament and needed to get a few more champions. This means we should expect a new super lightweight champion soon (maybe that’s the Forjando prize? maybe there IS a prize?), probably won by someone who currently does not have a title. It also means Dorada is probably not beating Lyger, because that’d mean one less champion and require more changes. (It’s doable, but you’re pretty much betting on the Avernos to beat the trios champs if you’re betting on Dorada to beat Lyger.)

Right now, I count 14 champions, assuming Shocker is good to go by June (and that’s the expectation.) New super lightweight champion makes 15. There are four double champions: Rush (MEX Trios, CMLL LH), Sombra (CMLL Trios, NWA Welter), Ultimo Guerrero (CMLL Heavy, CMLL Tag) and La Mascara (MEX LH, CMLL Trios). One of them is losing on the next run of Fan Appreciation shows.

CMLL has a new mini site for Forjando un Idolo. There is a poll, but the rules there do not mention a voting bonus point, so I guess we can chalk that up to a bad news report. Everyone should vote for Rey Cometa so he can win something in this tournament.

Bajo Las Capchuas has the most recent episode of El Hijo del Santo’s show: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4. His guest was an actress who had stared in, of course, El Santo movies.

Perro Aguayo, Diamante & Hijo del Signo pick up first wins

Perro Aguayo Jr. is doing well after surgery, but they won’t know until Wednesday if the tumor is cancerous.

Arturo Rivera is still in the hospital, dealing with a fever after two operations to remove a respiratory infection.

CMLL (MON) 04/11/2011 Arena Puebla [Cinco Radio, Fuego en el Ring]
1) Blue Center & Centella de Oro b Aguila Guerrera & Ares
Aguila Guerrera’s return to this building.
2) Artillero, Espiritu Maligno, Súper Comando b Höruz, Milenium, Robin
3) Hijo del Signo b Hombre Bala Jr. [Forjando un Idolo]
Signo submitted Hombra Bala to pick up his first 3 points. Bala has zero. Negro Casas was at ringside for both of these matches.
4) Diamante b Puma King [Forjando un Idolo]
Top rope plancha (450?) for the win. Diamante has 3 points, Puma King has 0.
5) Sagrado, Toscano, Valiente b Negro Casas, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
In the third fall, Negro beat Toscano, Valiente defeated Yoshihashi, and Sagrado clinched it with a casita on Okumura.
6) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Strong Man DQ El Alebrije, Hirooki Goto, Psicosis
Goto fouled Strong Man for the DQ. This was Dorada’s final match before going to Japan.

Shocker thinks this tournament is a marvelous idea. He would preferred to have both tecnicos and rudos in his group (so he didn’t get to pick his group.) Shocker’s mini, Shockercito, seems to have gone missing.

Tonight’s Arena Mexico main event is Ultimo Guerrero & Dragon Rojo defending their tag team championship against La Mascara & Sombra (though this article seems to think it’s Mascara Dorada in the match.) This is the end of the recent run of Fan Appreciation sparked title matches. All of them have seen the champions keep their titles, and I suspect the same here, though it’s not a sure thing.

Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., who had previously said he’d be out a year and then came back in two months, says the doctors were amazed at fast his body recovered, and lucha libre is the best medicine. Hmmm. You know, one of the things about WWE’s Edge retiring last night is he can actually afford to retire; unless he does silly things with his money, he should be living comfortable for the rest of his life. That’s not true around here much.

Somos Luchadors has new lucha libre regulations in Ensanda. These are well worth reading: there are items like “championship fights must be guaranteed to be pay and a half” and “you must wrestle on the mat for at least the first three minutes in the first fall.”

Rob picked the entire Forjando un Idolo. Two for two so far!

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

5) Delta, Toscano, Valiente vs Felino, Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura
6) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Strong Man vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.

First two matches not listed on the poster; since it’s a Coliseo show, Ticketmaster doesn’t have the info either. (CMLL is now listed the entire month’s schedule on Ticketmaster’s site, though advance shows don’t have lineups.) This is the last FuI group, Delta, to kick off. I wonder if we’ll get a Shocker appearance to coach up his guys?

CMLL (MON) 04/18/2011 Arena Puebla
1) Lestat & Stigma vs Centauro de Fuego & Siki Ozama Jr.

IWRG (SUN) 04/24/2011 Arena Naucalpan

2) Extreme Tiger & Nicho el Millionario vs Halloween & Lizmark Jr. and Máscara Año 2000 Jr. & Veneno and Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. & Máscara Año 2000 Jr. and Crazy Boy & Violento Jack and El Brazo & Negro Navarro

4) Charly Manson & La Parka Jr. vs Cibernético & Electroshock [Relevos Increíbles]

Another Battle of the Promotions show. Cage match is the match they set up last Thursday; Los Maniacos don’t trust Joe Lider to keep up his end of the deal, if you weren’t already sure how that cage match was ending. (How they do determine who wins the trios titles? The second to last person to leave the cage is the best trio in IWRG?)

Chiva finally makes TV, just someone else’s TV (if that match airs on TV.)

Perro Aguayo Jr. and AAA, together again (maybe, maybe not)

Hey, don’t blame me, I’m just reading the WON

Perro Aguayo Jr. is going to return at TripleMania in some sort of an angle, unless it falls through at the last minute. There have been previous negotiations to bring him back and do an interpromotional angle with him leading the Perros Del Mal group that have fallen through, and last year the return of El Hijo del Santo, originally thought to be full-time, ended up being him put over saving the promotion from the evil hands of Konnan, and after being put over as the savior, he left the promotion.

Now, the last information I was told is Perro was to appear at Monday’s taping in Leon, to tease a greater Perros del Mal run in on TripleMania. Perro did not appear in Leon, so the assumption is this whole thing is off, in a repeat of what happened in February.

However, today is Wednesday, TripleMania is Sunday, so they can change their minds again. and again. and again. This does not even seem worth discussing again, but it is also hard to completely ignore.

I still believe Perro needs to make a deal with someone, because what leverage he currently has is slipping away. The thing is, I’ve believed the same thing for a long time and they’ve clearly believed different.

04/14: Mexico, AAA in the US

CMLL (FRI) 04/13 Arena Mexico [ova, ocampo]
1) Shockercito & Tzuki b Fire & Mr. Aguilita
2) Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei b Dark Angel, Luna Magica, Sahori
3) Dos Caras Jr., Lizmark Jr., Sagrado b Sangre Azteca, Tarzan Boy, Universo 2000
4) Marco Corelone, Rey Bucanero, Shocker DQ Atlantis, Olímpico, Último Guerrero
5) Místico & Negro Casas b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Mr. Águila [CMLL TAG]

Perro had Mistico pinned in the third fall after a low blow, but no ref was there to count. Mistico rallied back to win and keep the titles. Sixth defense, and as of today, they’ve held these belts for a year. These two had fought earlier in the evening for something airing on another TV show, and Ocampo says Mistico broke Perro’s nose during that bit. This main event drew the best house of the year, imagine that.

Ovaciones says Marco pulled Ultimo’s mask in the semimain, while Ocampo says Ultimo pulled it himself and Marco got blamed.

Sagrado replayed Rayo in the tercera.

Women’s match is three falls, and that seems to be the new way of things. Ocampo notes that Dark Angel’s parents were in the crowd.

Check out Luchalibreusa – it says the Warped Tour (summer concerts – their site is down as I write this, so use wiki instead) will include AAA wrestlers, but gives absolutely no more details besides that. So this could mean anything from matches at every show to something when they run thru Texas. It’s really too unspecific to spend much time speculating, but I think it’s gonna have to be spot freaks, and it’s going to end up having Foreign Legion/Hell Brothers on top (except, how do you have worthwhile guys in the US when you need them in Mexico for spot shows?)

(link via luchalibrelive on DVDVR)

Rosendo “El Acapulco” Genchi, an original AAA referee, has passed away. (Ovaciones)

The Tapatia Awards should be (auto)posted around 7 PM CST today, so check back for them.
