CMLL Forjando un Idolo, Part 1

recap

My plan was to recap all the TV shows, since I’d effectively done half of all of them by watching these matches. But then then the TV shows never turned up and I’ve watched three dozen other matches since thinking about these ones. Alas.

#porraReyCometa (and the other guy)

Hijo del Signo vs Hombre Bala Jr., Arena Puebla, 04/11/2011: this was the match where Hijo del Signo really impressed me; maybe he’s a better singles wrestler, maybe he’s just better when he gets to b a good rudo, but this was a solid smart focused match that CMLL youngsters don’t normally do.

Diamante vs Puma King, Arena Puebla, 04/11/2011: That other match felt more IWRG style, this one was CMLL.

Palacio Negro vs Rey Cometa, Arena Mexico, 04/12/2011: This has spots that went well and some that didn’t go quite so.

Angel de Oro vs Escorpion, Arena Mexico, 04/12/2011: Not sure if they even know where they’re going with this idea (or if they are), but the UG/Rey Scorpion stuff is at least catching people’s attraction.

Fuego vs Pólvora, Arena Coliseo, 04/17/2011: Polvora really doesn’t interest me, but Fuego had a really strong tournament.

Magnus vs Angel de Plata, Arena Coliseo, 04/17/2011: Not a disaster! Hooray.

CMLL (SUN) 05/01/2011 Arena Coliseo [Cesar, CMLL]
1) Bronco & Disturbio b Camaleón & Freesbe
Rudos took falls 1 and 3.
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Hombre Bala Jr., Stuka Jr.Rayo Tapatío I, Rayo Tapatío II, Virus
Tecnicos took the last two falls.
3) Rey EscorpionPalacio Negro [Forjando un Idolo]
Palacio [3] did every crazy move he could think of – and ate a dropkick for the loss. Escorpion [6] finally wins clean, advances in second place.
4) Ángel de OroRey Cometa [Forjando un Idolo]
Angel de Oro finishes with 3 wins [9] and Rey Cometa [0] winless. The first place finishers – Oro, Delta, Diamante, Polvora – all end with perfect records. Cometa, Puma King and Angel de Plata all finished with zero points.
5) El Alebrije, Misterioso Jr., OlímpicoDiamante, Metro, Rush
Rudos took the last two falls, then made the expected title challenge for next week. Misterioso challenges Rush for a mask vs hair match. Keep dreaming.
6) Atlantis, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.Black Warrior, Blue Panther, La Sombra
Rudos took one and three, Atlantis & Volador beating Sombra & Panther.

Saturday’s Arena Lopez Mateos show, to help Rey Escorpion pay for an operation for his child saw Rey Escorpion, Ultimo Guerrero, and Atlantis beat Villano IV, Villano V and Scorpio Jr. Straight fall win for the Guerreros, Rey Escorpion wiping out Scorpio Jr. with a dive while his parnters took care of the Guerreros. Amo La Lucha Libre has video of this match. Black Terry Jr. has video of Navarro & Traumas vs Solar, Chucho el Roto, and Iron Love: fall 1, fall 2, fall 3.

DTU’s Kids Day show included lap dances, men on women violence, and other lunacy. DTU: Keeping It Real.

Forjando un Idolo

I enjoyed both of these. Seems like the Puebla matches aren’t airing. Just to rub it in, Porra Fresa says Delta vs Guerrero Maya Jr. was the best match he’s seen in the tournament.

CMLL in NJPW
05/01:  Davey Richards (O), Rocky Romero, Mascara Dorada b Prince Devitt, Ryusuke Taguchi (X), Jushin Liger
Next show is the 05/03 title match.

LuchaWorld has the last two Ras de Lonas.

SuperLuchas #411 has a spiffy new look. Inside is an interview with Hijo del Santo (in full Hijo del Santo, telling us he could’ve beaten Fishman or Villano III for their masks but he had too much respect for them to challenge them, fishing for someone to pay for a Hijo del Solitario mask match, explaining Super Astros set the stage for Sin Cara & Alberto del Rio)

Sort of rematch from last week in the main event.

Odds of that ? being Black Thunder: 99 to 99.999%

SuperLuchas says the next trainee show is 05/14. Scheduled to be a rematch with the Villano GYM, but they did run an angle with Gym Ham Lee last time.

CMLL (SUN) 05/08/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Drago vs RáfagaMaleficoMr. Trueno [OCCIDENTE LH, #1]
2) Eléctrico, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
3) Rey Cometa, Sagrado, Sangre Azteca vs Euforia, Pólvora, Vangelis
4) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Toscano vs Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero

That’s a match to challenge for Gallo’s title. Though I wonder what they’re going to do with Metal Blanco’s title if he’s not going to be around here (and probably isn’t losing to one who’s sticking around.) ACG Drago is not the AAA Drago.

CMLL (SAT) 05/21/2011 Arena Lopez Mateos
1) Astral & Eléctrico vs Pequeño Warrior & Pierrothito
2) Puma King, Rayo Tapatío II, Tiger Kid vs Hijo del Signo, Mortiz, Semental

7) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Héctor Garza, Último Guerrero

This is (also?) a Rey Escorpion benefit show, though he doesn’t wrestle on this one. Really stacked lineup, should be a fun card.

CMLL Guadalajara on Teleformula #42 (04/10/2011)

taped @ Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, 02/22/2011

recap: here
file: here

a bit south for a Cruz Nipona. Cruz Indonesia?

Black Metal & Palacio Negro vs Hooligan & Skándalo: better on the web, where you could actually see the finish of the first fall. It’s a tremendous effort to get three matches on this show, but I don’t know that they’ve ever really gotten three full matches on this show. This was the fine start to a feud between these teams that I guess got dropped when they decided to bring Palacio Negro up. Maybe. Poor Black Metal, who won’t be able to use his matching gear with Palacio Negro for a while to come.

Sangre Azteca, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Rey Bucanero, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi: A Guadalajara match with a dumb finish. Two straight DQs that weren’t really going anywhere and didn’t mean much, but I think this might have been their way to keep Bucanero “strong” after losing the feud to Maximo.

Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Terrible, Texano, Volador Jr.: a match none of us had much enthusiasm for, but wasn’t an ambarassment or anything.

PlayPlay

Guadalajara, title matches on Sunday

CMLL (SUN) 12/06 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) El Divino & Thunder Boy b Katana & Titanio
2) Magnum & Saturno b In Memoria & Rey Trueno
3) Ángel del Mal b Palacio Negro [OCCIDENTE WELTER]
4) Mascarita Dorada & Pequeño Olímpico DQ Pequeño Damian 666 & Pierrothito
5) Gallo & Rouge b Arkangel de la Muerte & Nosferatu
6) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra b Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Tecs took the first and were about to when the second when Niebla took off his mask and threw it to Garza. Referee saw Hector with it and called the DQ. Hector and Niebla ended up back in at the end of the third, this time with Hector taking Niebla’s mask and rolling him up for the win.

Gallo replaced Mictlan. Never did see results for Arena Aficion, don’t know if he turned up there, but he still hasn’t been spotted in a couple months (and it took about 6 weeks for anyone to notice.)

Minis match was an unadvertised surprise. DQ was Pierrothito fouling Dorada.

Angel del Mal retained his title in his first defense. He won the first and third.

WagnerMania naturally has quotes from other wrestlers about Dr. Wagner III, who looks to be a new regular for the Perros del Mal. By the way, I got the finish wrong last night – Groon did turn on Demon, but Perro attacked new doctor, and Demon managed to roll Perro up for the win. Despite the assist, it’s not clear if Wagner III (who they’re calling “El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr.”, in full Rayman length) is totally allied with the tecnicos or rudos. He is a Wagner, after all, he’s only allied with himself.

Lucha Libre & Box in Zacatecas notes Mistico missed Thursday’s night show, and they were told it was due to injury, but of course Mistico still wrestled on Friday’s Arena Mexico show. He could’ve been too hurt to go on Thursday but better on Friday, or he could’ve really felt not up to working on either day but worked Friday because it was a major show, but it doesn’t really help Zacatecas either way.

Cronicas Y Leyendas chronicles the transition of Ultraman 2000 into a man who would wear horrible looking dotted Zubaz pants. (Also, hardcore wrestling.) They’ve also got articles on Canek beating Sunny War Cloud, Rene Guajardo and Ray Mendoza beating up Perro Sr. and Torinito about his career.

Dark Angel did not win the Freestyle Fitness competition, but did win the sports attire competition. Of course she did.

Kcidis illustrates Bushi losing his mask to Oficial 911

Box Y Lucha 2951 has bald Japanese men, if you’re in to that.

CMLL (MON) 12/07 Arena Puebla
1) Diamante, Leono, Tony Rivera vs Bronco, Dr. X, Loco Max
2) Amapola vs Marcela [CMLL WOMEN]
3) Máscara Dorada, Sagrado, Valiente vs Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro
4) Brazo de Plata, Héctor Garza, Strong Man vs Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

It’s about 7 hours before the show and CMLL still hasn’t put up the website. But this is what Box Y Lucha had last week (minus the challenger), and TodoPuebla has the same lineup for the top three.

CMLL (SUN) 12/13 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata vs Bronco, Hooligan, Nitro
2) Fabián el Gitano, Metro, Rouge vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Skándalo
3) Fuego & Stuka Jr. vs Pólvora & Virus [Arena Coliseo TAG]
4) La Sombra, Shocker, Strong Man vs Terrible, Texano Jr., Vangelis
5) Místico vs Mephisto [MEX LH]

The rudo sides make a little more sense (though Skandalo still needs to trade spots with Bronco.) I’m just happy there’s an actual marketable main event for the fan appreciation show.

Mistico should get his title win the close out the year.

Interesting to see Polvora is ahead of Euforia on the Cancerbero depth chart. Or maybe Virus just thinks he’s the better compliment as a tag team. Leaning towards a title change there. Note that is nearly the one year anniversary of the last defense of this belt (12/13/08) – maybe an annual thing.
