06/28: notes

Heavy Metal announced a Heavy Metal lucha libre show, which will feature Heavy Metal and also heavy metal. It’ll be two days of shows, August 17th and August 18th. Wrestlers scheduled to appear include Perro Aguayo Jr., Mr. Aguila, Halloween, Damian, Felino, Negro Casas, and perhaps Mistico. Bands scheduled to appear include Blephegor (Austria), Enthroned (Belgium), Acheron (US), Inquisition (Colombia), Dismember and Grave (Sweeden), Sinster (Holland), Incantation (US).

Metal also talked about the Gran Alterniva at the press conference. He likes his chances with Super Nova, though can’t guarantee a win with the likes of UG and Negro invovled. Notimex also has an article talking with many of the young guys. Flash, Valiente and Super Comando are not quote which may mean everything, or may mean nothing at all. (Probably nothing at all.)

Guerreros del Ring #93 has Lizmark Jr. on the cover.

06/18: Puebla, Lineups

CMLL (MON) 06/18 Arena Puebla [hugo999]
1) Fuerza Chicana, Furia Chicana, Karissman b Blue Center, King Jaguar, Zigma
2) Black Terry, Kraken, Siki Osama Jr. b Centella de Oro, Legionario, Mr. Rafaga
3) Lady Apache, Luna Magica, Marcela b Amapola, Hiroka, Mima Shimoda
4) Sangre Azteca, Terrible, Ultimo Guerrero b Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Sagrado
5) Damian 666, Halloween, Mr. Aguila b Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Volador JR. [MEX TRIOS]

Terrible replaced Black Warrior, who still seems to be missing. No details on the main event. I think Ultimo fouled Marco for the pin in the semimain, if I’m reading this right.

El Salavador has an obit for Caballero Rojo

La Voz de La Frontera previews a Mexicali show by talking up Dr. Wagner Jr.’s feuds with Atlantis, Black Warrior and Damian 666. Huh.

Blue Demon Jr. was on a panel, talking about the importance of physical education in school.

Box Y Lucha 2823 has Perro winning the reality show. Ehhhh. It’s been nice to see Blue Demon Jr. all the sudden become a Perro del Mal member when it gets him on TV.

Some lineups after the break, including Jeque’s Big Match (Take 2)

Gran Alternativa Teams Announced

CMLL.com’s gotta ’em

– Heavy Metal, Super Nova
– Dr. Wagner Jr., Mascara Purpura
– Negro Casas, Stuka Jr.
– Shocker, Valiente
– Marco Corelone, Flash
– Mistico, La Sombra
– Villano V, Super Comando
– Ultimo Guerrero, Euforia

Tournament will take place next week, June 29, which means we’ve had all of a two week gap between tournaments. (Only the Leyenda de Azul remains, unless they bring back the Gran Prix Trios tournament or something new.)

Mistico & La Sombra are obvious favorites, and Villano and Ultimo will almost have to run into each other at some point. Almost all are tecnico teams, which is a bit odd.

First guess…

Villano V, Super Comando b Heavy Metal, Super Nova
Ultimo Guerrero, Euforia b Marco Corelone, Flash
b Negro Casas, Stuka Jr.
Shocker, Valiente b Dr. Wagner Jr., Mascara Purpura

Ultimo Guerrero, Euforia b Villano V, Super Comando
Mistico, La Sombra b Shocker, Valiente

Ultimo Guerrero, Euforia b Mistico, La Sombra (though Mistico losing at this point seems impossible)

06/15: Villano IV’s injury, Mexico preview, Puebla

Villanos are in Ovaciones, but it’s ESTO who finally gets word on Villano IV’s injury. He’s hoping to be back in less than six months. They’ve changed the card, Villano III replacing Halloween (who could be hurt again – or he could just be getting the night off.)

Villano IV’s injury would seem to derail whatever program they had in mind here. Honestly, they had to bring in the Villanos to lose their masks to the Guerreros, because I don’t understand why you’d give them spots on the card for any other reason right now. (CMLL does do stuff for random reasons, so I may just not understand.) They could still do a singles match with someone vs V, but a tag feud with Villano’s III hair on the line won’t work since he just lost it (and doesn’t have much to start with.) They could have the Villanos recruit a replacement member from CMLL, but that doesn’t seem like CMLL. I think this one might just drift off into the land of forgotten angles, but we’ll get a better read on it tonight.

CMLL (FRI) 06/15 Arena Mexico
1) Bam Bam & Mini Fantasy vs Fire & Mini Mr. Aguila
2) Leono, Mictlan, Valiente vs Goto, Okumura, Virus
3) La Sombra, Mascara Purpura, Maximo vs Ephesto, Olimpico, Sangre Azteca
4) Damian 666, Villano III, Villano V vs Atlantis, Tozcano, Ultimo Guerrero
5) Blue Panther, Mistico, Negro Casas vs Hector Garza, Mr. Aguila, Terrible

General ESTO preview. Notimex’s preview went up Monday for whatever reason.

ESTO previews Sunday’s show.

CMLL (MON) 06/18 Arena Puebla [hugo999]
1) Blue Center, King Jaguar, Zigma vs Fuerza Chicana, Furia Chicana, Karissman
2) Black Terry, Kraken, Siki Osama Jr. vs Centella de Oro, Legionario, Tigre Rojo
3) Lady Apache, Luna Magica, Marcela vs Amapola, Hiroka, Mima Shimoda
4) Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Sagrado vs Black Warrior, Sangre Azteca, Ultimo Guerrero
5) Damian 666, Halloween, Mr. Aguila vs Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Volador JR. [MEX TRIOS]

Figure on champions retaining.

IWRG’s website is back up! Not updated and half working, but baby steps.

Dr. Alfonso Morales is interviewed in El Sol de Tijuana about boxing.

06/12: Puebla, Hamadas, Lineups

CMLL (MON) 06/11 Arena Puebla [hugo999 @ box y lucha]
1) Forajido, Super Star, SWAT b Aguila Guerrera, Ares, Siki Ozama Jr.
2) Centella de Oro, Legionario, the Tiger CO Espiritu Malgino, Karissma, Toro Bill Jr.
3) La Sombra, Super Nova, Valiente b Dr. X, Negro Navarro, Nitro
4) Alex Koslov, Marco Corelone, Rey Bucanero b Atlantis, Averno, Mephisto
5) Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Volador Jr. b Damián 666, Halloween, Mr. Águila

Tecnicos won the main event in straight falls and want a shot at the Mexican Trios titles. Espiritu Maligno was hurt on a dive by the Tiger, which ended the match. Tiger kept attacking him as he was being carted off, which restarted a brawl with the rudos.

Madrea @ El Martiente has pictures of the AAA Merida taping on Sunday, though they’re still not up yet and not as much on results. He notes the building was full, but a lot seemed to be there only for Latin Lover. (So, that’s 8 comments at least.) Juvi didn’t wrestle, due to some sort of arm injury and Cuije was using a walker – maybe these things will make sense after hearing about the previous taping.

La Presna talks about Ayako Hamada debuting in AAA over the weekend, as well as “Angela from TNA”. (???) Gran Hamada is also starting with the promotion, and the article teases a Mixed Title title challenge.

Some fans were critical of Los Cinco Magnificos because Perro’s opposition seemed more talented, but lost on votes. Perro Aguayo Jr. defended his win, saying his team was the best.

Box Y Lucha #2822 has Mistico winning the LdP. Nice action photo too.

El Halcon #92 is up, with interviews with Maximo, Lady Apache and Tzuki.

The San Diego county fair will have (unspecified) lucha libre on Saturday and Sunday. According to the website, there’s two shows on each day, free with admission to the fair.

This article about marketing towards Hispanics includes a photo of Blue Demon Jr. throwing out the first pitch at a Dodgers game. Weird. (thanks to mikeinformer.)

Selected lineups below. Figure out the latest random Japanese youngster who’s wrestling in IWRG.

05/28: Coliseo, magazines, AAA on Warped Tour, lineups

CMLL (SUN) 05/27 Arena Coliseo
1) Pequeno Damian 666 & Pequeno Halloween b Electrico & Mini Fantasy
2) Amapola, Medussa, Rosa Negra b Diana La Cazdora, Luna Magica, Marcela
3) Maximo, Mictlan, Tiger Kid DQ Skandalo, Texano Jr., Virus
4) Black Warrior, Goto, Ohara b Heavy Metal, Leono, Valiente
5) Mistico, Sagrado, Volador Jr. DQ Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

CMLL

Mistico’s left shoulder was bugging him thru out the match, and when he took a bump on the shoulder while fighting Ephesto, that was pretty much it. Averno ended up ripping his mask off for the DQ finish, but the CMLL.com recap paints a pretty pessimistic picture.

Mistico’s due to work Puebla about the time I’m writing this, so we may have an answer about the situation soon.

Lots of changes elsewhere in the card. Of the six scheduled to be in the match, only Metal made it – Negro, Rey, Eclipse, Olimpico and Tarzan were all not to be found. They still may have stuck to the planned finish, Warrior pinning a Casas boy with the Casas family’s own castita.

Texano Jr. ended the tercera with a DQ on Maximo. I read it was a DQ, but I may have that flipped. We’re heading to a Texano/Maximo hair match, and I’m actually not sure who’d win that. I’d lean to Maximo, but it’s not a sure thing. In that match, Skandalo takes the Starman/Satanico spot, and Tiger Kid missed Felino (maybe there was a whole match from another building that didn’t make it here in time?)

This slipped my mind with other stuff going on, but Ovaciones announced earlier this week that AAA was going to tour the US with…

– Psicosis II
– Angel
– Mini Charly Manson
– Decnnis

That’s got to be the Warped Tour lineup, one tag match, with Piero as ref. Ovaciones lists them as going from June 19 to August 25th, though the Warped tour doesn’t start till the 29th – typo? (They say it’s 43 day trip, so yea, that math works better.) Probably just one match they’ll take on the road, with Piero as ref, though they’re teasing more people.

I wonder what the reaction to Mini Charly Manson will be. I wonder how he’s going to react not facing his brother for nearly two months!

It’s a random set of guys. I’m thinking they’re sending guys they wouldn’t miss for two months, but it does sorta screw Alan in particular unless they’re going to do a singles feud with Billy Boy, or maybe just run with Apache/Calo/Alan as a trio for the time being.

Magazines
Luchas 2000 #370 has Lizmark Jr.’s turn, and teases the debut of Hijo del Faraon.
Luchas 2000 Special #21 has the history of the Mexican National Championships. The luchawiki needs that magazine.
Super Luchas #214 has Psicosis II and Lizmark Jr.’s turns.
– Box Y Lucha #2820 has two covers: one with Perro caning Mistico (Lizmark Jr. stands in the background) and one with Psicosis and Lizmark’s turns – looking at the cover, did Piero jump factions too?

Some lineups for this week:
