Extreme Tiger out of AAA, Electrico’s road back to CMLL, Diamante Azul & Rush to Japan

Tonight’s Arena Mexico show is headlined by Diamante Azul vs Tama Tonga (Azul wants to prove himself a star) and Polvora vs Mascara Dorada for Dorada’s CMLL Welterweight Championship. Dorada is the easy favorite in his match, but Tonga vs Azul is more up in the air. Usually (but not always), the NJPW guys have lost in their big Arena Mexico singles matches, but Tonga has a big title match on Tuesday vs Azul & Atlantis for the tag team title mach. If CMLL’s different weekly shows work in unity, Tonga should win tonight to build up Tuesday, but CMLL’s weekly shows have operated without paying attention to each other in the past. The match itself is an interesting inversion of usual CMLL tecnico vs rudo ones – here, the high flyer is the rudo and the strong guy is the tecnico. Diamante Azul just went thru that match with Volador Jr., but I suspect there won’t be as much Mije involvement tonight.

Electrico, who’s been out of action since August after a bad leg injury, says he will not be able to return this year. The prognosis was a four month recovery, so he wouldn’t have enough time and it seems like it’s going slower than expected. The injury had a domino effect; he missed out of “being part of the 20 year celebration for the pequeno estrellas” (maybe being in an apuesta?), was supposed to challenge Demus for his title (which Astral won instead), had been offered a trip to Japan by Ultimo Dragon, can’t participate in the bodybuilding contest, and lost an opportunity to teach engineering at a college. Electrico says he’s not complain, and has learned to appreciate what he does have in life.

MedioTiempo mentions a promotion named WASP is planning to debut on 11/23 in Queretaro, promising ex-WWE, ex-ECW, US Indy and AAA wrestlers. It’s 12 days out and they haven’t announced any names. It’s the same arena that’s hosting the Rey Cometa headlined show the weekend after, and that show is a free show. This is probably not going to end well.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Rob has highlights from mid March 2000 AAA.

Lucha Libre in Japan

11/11 REINA X WORLD: Amapola defeated Mia Yim (taking falls 1/3) to keep the REINA International Championship. Match was said to be good. Crowd appeared to be minimal.

NJPW announced the teams for it’s World Tag League, a 14 team heavyweight tag team tournament. CMLL will be represented by the team of Rush & Diamante Azul (as “CMLL ASESINOS”). They should enjoy teaming with each other, not sure how their opponents will feel. The other teams in the group are Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima (previous champs, though they may be going in different directions soon), Strong Man & Manabu Nakanishi (Nakanishi is recently returned from neck surgery, Strong Man is Strong Man), MVP & Shelton Benjamin (MVP was meant to be regular semi-important guy but has been sparingly used the last six months, and his contract runs out after the Tokyo Dome), Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka (rudo b-team), Masato Tanaka & Yujiro Takahashi (also rudo b-team), Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr. (current tag champs.) It’s not impossible to for Rush & Azul to do well, because there are a lot of average teams here, but history tells us lucha teams finish mid table. We can figure Rush is probably back in Japan for FantasticaMania and they’ll need a few matches for that show, so stealing a win over the tag champs to set up a rematch might be possible.

The tournament runs from 11/20 to 12/02. Rush & Diamante Azul would probably be back in Mexico in time for the usual year end show, but probably not involved in any major match.

Lineups

JUNIORS (SUN) 12/02/2012 Auditorio Miguel Barragan de San Luis Potosi [El Sol de San Luis]
1) Lady Dinamita & Rossy Moreno vs Esther Moreno & La Sádica
2) Lobito & Octagoncito (original) vs Mini Conde Bartock & Mini Maniaco
3) ? vs ?? [cage]
particpants (including number) to be announced
4) Decnnis, Extreme Tiger, Oriental vs Black Terry, Pirata Morgan, Scorpio Jr.
5) El Hijo Del Santo & Villano III vs Angel Blanco Jr. & El Hijo del Solitario

FWIW, this is a SLP Juniors promotion different from the Gallo Tapado Jr. one. It’s essentially the dormant TxT guys plus whoever is in the cage match (to be announced this week, but I’d guess locals.)

The big news is Extreme Tiger showing up on a lineup here, which is about as much confirmation we’re going to get. (AAA still has said nothing, probably will say nothing, social media is pointless if you can’t say anything worthwhile on it.) In the long run, I don’t think Tiger leaving hurts AAA much – historically, they’ve shown the ability to replace high flying guys who leave with newer unknown ones, and Tiger was in the group of guys who rarely had feuds but was often thrown into a random match on a big show. (The TripleMania team with Halloween was the best example of this.) I wouldn’t be surprised if CMLL gave Tiger a shot, and he’ll probably work Tijuana a lot. It seems unlikely he’ll be better off outside of AAA then he was in it, and that seems like an indication of how frustrated he must’ve been to make this move.

AAA QPPLC, IWRG, Toryumon, Caneks vs Wagners

IWRG (SUN) 10/14/2012 Arena Naucalpan [IWRG]
1) Astro Rey Jr. & Johnny Rivera b Epidemia & Star Boy Jr.
Star Boy is back as a rudo, Astro Rey is just back. Straight falls for the tecnicos, though the rudos dominated most of the match.
2) Dinamic Black & Freelance b Comando Negro & Jack
Yack is back as a rudo, replacing Impossible. Tecnicos took 2/3, Freelance winning with a top rope ‘rana on Comando Negro. Money thrown back in the ring.
3) Factor, Freyser, Rayan DQ Carta Brava Jr., Oficial 911, Oficial AK47
Freyser replaced Carta Brava I. Rudos took 2/3, Factor tossing his mask to AK47 for the DQ.
4) el Ángel, Pantera, Veneno vs Scorpio Jr., Violencia Jr., Zumbido
Tecnicos took 2/3. Violencia Jr. wants a title match with Angel, but it was Veneno who beat Violencia Jr. with a senton for the win. Money thrown in the ring.
5) Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 & Pirata Morgan b Cien Caras Jr. & Hijo de Pirata Morgan [Relevos Increíbles]
family didn’t want to fight finally, but the Hijo de Pirata/Cien team jumped the opposition and took the first. Fans yelled at the teams until they fought their usual partner. Pirata Sr./Hijo de Mascara rallied back to take second. Factor was doing a ringside interview in the third, and Hijo de Pirata & Cien attacked him. Third fall saw Pirata Sr. beat Cien and Mascara beat Hijo de Pirata with a top rope powerbomb. Factor came for revenge with a chair, setting up another triangle match with Hijo de Pirata and Hijo de Mascara

This show may air tonight on AYM Sports.

Toryumon Mexico (SUN) 10/14/2012 Sala de Armas Magdalena Mixhuca [Estrellas del Ring]

Hijo de Medico Asesino pulled Magnus’ mask and cradled him for the iwn.
4) Astral b Demus 3:16 [DF LIGHT]
Astral won the title in Demus’ first known defense. Demus demanded a rematch.
5) Negro Casas & Último Guerrero b Hijo del Fantasma & Último Dragón
Negro snuck in a foul on Ultimo Dragon

This was the benefit show from Electrico, who was hurt at the previous Toryumon show.

Astral and Demus rematch in a lightning match in Puebla tonight.

UWE (SUN) 10/14/2012 Arena Lopez Mateos [Estrellas del Ring, MT]
1) Beda, Oberón, Spider Boy b Antheus, Pakal, Striker

straight falls. Big Mama and Felina Metalika replaced Keira, Taya joined the Morenos.
5) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II b Eterno, Oriental, Super Crazy
6) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. DQ Canek & Canek Jr.
Caneks took the first, Wagners the second. Both tried martinetes in the last, and Canek yanked off Dr. Wagner Jr.’s mask when trying to martinete Canek Jr. for the DQ. Caneks just took all the Wagner masks after the match and challenged for the UWA title.

Hector Garza is off this weekend’s AAA show in Arena Coliseo Monterrey. Zumbi takes his place. Garza seems to have an odd illness which prevents him wrestling except for Heroes Inmortales. I’m sure this will be resolved one way or another.

The third part of Dorian and Konnan’s interview is here. I’m listening to this as I type this, but I forgot the link!

No one stains Rayo’s name quite like Rayo does.

Fantasy says he told everyone he was going to win, no one believed him, but now he’s got Mercurio’s mask and he wants a title match next.

Rob has highlights of 03/23/12 CMLL.

4) el Ángel, Tony Rivera, Veneno vs Alan Extreme, Black Terry, Heddi Karaoui
5) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II vs Bestia 666, Damián 666, Eterno

Carta Brava Jr., who’s tagline is that he’s the best rudo, appears to be a tecnico in his feud now.

CMLL (SUN) 10/21/2012 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Leono vs Inquisidor & Zayco
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Pegasso, Sensei vs Cancerbero, Hooligan, Raziel
3) Bam Bam vs Pequeño Olímpico [lightning]
4) Rey Cometa, Sagrado, Triton vs Hijo del Signo, Misterioso Jr., Vangelis
5) Marco Corleone, Máscara Dorada, Super Porky vs Felino, Pólvora, Tiger
6) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Diamante Azul vs Tama Tonga, Terrible, Volador Jr.

If he shows, it’s Bam Bam’s first match since June. The minis mentioned a month back that he was cleared to returned but frozen out on a return date.

Announcers have been calling Tonga “Samoan Terrible”. They’ll team with Volador here.

CMLL (SUN) 10/21/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Brillante vs Sádico
2) Black Metal & Javier Cruz Jr. vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
3) El Divino & Máscara Mágica vs Demonio Maya & Ráfaga
4) Eros, Gallo, Leo vs Bárbaro Cavernario, In Memoriam, Infierno
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Valiente vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Niebla Roja, Sangre Azteca

Dragon Rojo pinned Hijo del Fantasma with his feet on the ropes yesterday, but Fantasma still wants a title match.

03/06 CMLL Puebla Fan Appreciation Lineup (mini mask match)

CMLL’s announced the next fan appreciation show for Puebla:

CMLL (FRI) 03/06 Arena Puebla
1) Lady Apache & Sahori vs Mima Shimoda & Princesa Sujei
2) Hijo del Fantasma & La Mascara vs Dragon Rojo Jr. & Sangre Azteca
3) Marco Corleone, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
4) Mascarita Dorada vs Ultimo Dragoncito, Pequeno Ninja, Pequeno Olimpico, Fantasy, Electrico, Nino de Acero, Bracito de Oro, Sombrita, Sauron[cage, mask]

Okay, issue 1: it’s listed as a 14 mask match, with only 10 names. Pierrothito and Pequeno Warrior were in Puebla last night, so they’re surely working this show too. Tzuki fits too. Maybe a mini Dinamitia to round out the numbers? (Maybe Mini Lizmark, unretired?)

They’re obviously trying to build up the numbers (though – why is a 14 mini match any bigger draw than an 8 mini one, presuming you’re just dropping the lesser 6?), because issue #2 is “who is Sauron?” If I get a vote, I’m voting for hypnotic pterodactyl gimmick over evil wizard gimmick. I would actually know this if I watched more of Puebla and IWRG, because a wrestler by that name turned up on both places from August to December last year.

Third cage match in 3 months. Kinda hitting that button a little hard. Also, since this is Friday, that means Mistico and crew won’t be in Arena Mexico – perhaps a Ultimo Guerrero/Blue Panther vs Villanos match?

07/07 (2): DF Lineups

As per new standard operating procedure, only Tuesday and Friday ones. Bihari, you may want to be seated for the Arena Mexico lineup. Actually, everyone should, there’s a pretty fun surprise.

CMLL (TUE) 07/10 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II vs Caligula & Vaquero
2) Bam Bam, Bracito de Oro, Celestial vs Mr. Aguilita, Pequeno Damian, Pequeno Halloween
3) Fabian el Gitano, Flash, Tony Rivera vs Arkangel, Hooligan, Nitro
4) La Mascara, Maximo, Volador Jr. vs Satanico, Texano Jr., Virus
5) Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero vs Atlantis, Sangre Azteca, Universo 2000

I think that’s as high as Flash has been, but it’s Tuesday. Is Sangre Azteca’s story inspiring because, after all this time, he’s finally up in the main events or is depressing for it to take all this time for him to finally be up in the main events?

CMLL (FRI) 07/13 Arena Mexico
1) Sombra de Plata & Stuka Jr. vs Artillero & Polvora
2) Bam Bam vs Pequeno Olimpico, Bracito de Oro, Fantasy, Electrico, Pequeno Halloween, Pequeno Damian 666, Mr. Aguilita, Fire [ciber]
3) Alex Koslov, La Mascara, Mascara Purpura vs Damian 666, Euforia, Texano Jr.
4) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Sombra vs Atlantis, Olimpico, Sangre Azteca
5) Mistico & Negro Casas vs Dr. Wagner Jr. & Ultimo Guerrero [CMLL TAG]

Who’s missing? No Ultimo Dragoncito, Tzuki, Pierrothito and Pequeno Violencia – that’s gotta be a tag match at a spot show somewhere. Mini cibernetico’s gotta make air.

No apparent follow up on the Panther vs Perros stuff. News page teases Villano V vs Blue Panther in a mask match. Eh, no.

With Atlantis in the building for the main event tag, perhaps we’ll know how he feels about Ultimo hooking up with his archrival and offering him membership in the Guerreros. I wonder how Bucanero feels about this! (I bet he doesn’t know yet.)
