CMLL FantasicaMania talent list announced, Noche Briticana show announced

CMLL released new on two international (related) events in the last 24 hour.

Coming up first is Noche Briticana, a special Arena Mexico show on 12/07. The announcers mentioned it in passing on last night’s Terra broadcast, and Ticketmaster already has some details.

As you can read, it’s a copromtoion with the British Embassy, and will include British music, a double decker bus, and Buckingham Palace soldiers. It sounds like an Ultimo Guerrero vs La Sombra singles main event, but I guess they could also be just leading teams.

The John Langdown Down Foundation helps children with Down’s Syndrome. That weekend is the same as the annual Televisa supported “Teleton” to help special needs children, so there’s probably some connection there, though it appears CMLL may be donating a different charity.

That date would seem to mean any major CMLL year end show wouldn’t happen until later in December. However, there’s yet to be any hint of CMLL actually running a major show in December. (I haven’t seen any CMLL TV this weekend yet, so maybe you know something I don’t.) It is possible CMLL says Ultimo Guerrero vs Sombra with British people is enough and calls it a year. We won’t know that for certain for a few weeks, but it’s possible.

In a dream world, Sombra wins the main event when new rudo faction of Rey Escorpion, Dragon Rojo, and Hooligan (british! going for revenge on his old partner!) cost Ultimo Guerrero the match. I dream too much, but Hooligan’s got to be on the card. He’s the only British guy they’ve got! Volador dressing up as one of the Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band alone is not going to be good enough.

CMLL & NJPW also announced the CMLL participation for the three day FantasticaMania event. Tecnicos are Mistico, Titan, La Sombra, Rush, La Mascara, Mascara Dorada, Maximo, and Diamante. Rudos are Volador Jr., Mephisto, Dragon Rojo Jr., Rey Bucanero, Euforia, Misterioso and Okumura. It’s not stated, but I expect Namajague will be back in NJPW in January and would also be on these shows, in addition to the regular NJPW wrestlers. CMLL is also sending ring announcer Ivan and edecan Bruni.

Mistico and Titan are the tecnicos making the NJPW debut. Euforia is the only rudo making his debut here. NJPW also introduces Rey Bucanero, who’s been in NJPW as part of the team with Ultimo Guerrero prior but not in many years (and not under the current regime.) It’s a total of 14 CMLL wrestlers this time, up from 9 on previous shows.

The tour is being promoted around the first appearance of the new Mistico. NJPW mentions the previous one was IWGP Junior Heavyweight championship, setting the bar for this one (though I’d imagine that’s not something happening this year.)

Titan earned this spot by winning En Busca de Un Idolo, but the 2nd (Euforia), 3rd (Mistico) and 4th (Diamante) place finishers all got in as well. That makes the winning a bit cheap (though true to most reality shows), but I’m not certain Titan would’ve made it if he didn’t make the final 2 of the tournament given where he was before the tournament. This is still a win for #porraTitan.

There is plenty of pressure on the younger guys, but La Mascara might have the most to prove. Mascara was embarrassingly poor on the first FantasticaMania shows, looking in no condition to perform on both shows. It was said Mascara was ill and tried to work thru it (and the wrestlers on the show defended him against criticism), but everything he tried looked abysmally bad. Just having OK matches would be a vast improvement, but the Brazos have a great reputation in Japan and I’m certain La Mascara will be motivated to raise his families name back up.

FantasitcaMania had four title matches in 2011 involving CMLL wrestlers (and one that was between NJPW & DDT), and two in 2012. FantasticaMania expands to three days this year, and so the title match number is likely to increase. Titan (National Welterweight), Rush (CMLL Light Heavyweight), La Mascsara (National Light Heavyweight), Dragon Rojo Jr. (NWA & CMLL Middleweight), Rey Bucanero (NWA Light Heavyweight) all have major CMLL titles. Dragon Rojo’s already stated he’ll defend against either Jushin Lyger or Prince Devitt on these shows. Lyger makes more sense. Rush being a spotlight match (rematch vs Yujiro? Goto?) seems to fit with CMLL goals, as well as Mascara Dorada getting a big match (Bucanero is not doing much with his belt). Titan vs Euforia would also be a fun showcase for both guys, and it’d be weird if Volador and Sombra weren’t involved in something big. There’s a lot of possibilities. Unless there’s a title change between now and January, there won’t be a CMLL pairs or trios title on the line (though Okumura and Namajague are still facing Stuka & Fuego a lot.)

NJPW and CMLL will announce actual matches at a later time, probably early January, and we’ll likely know if any of these will be an iPPV around the same time. There will also likely be CMLL participation on the 01/04 NJPW Toyko Dome show. That usually includes 1 or 2 guys who don’t end up working these shows.

Rayos vs Maya/Bala, Ultimo Guerrero, Durango Kid, lineups

hanging around/CMLL

CMLL (SUN) 05/22/2011 Arena Coliseo [Cesar, CMLL]
1) Bam Bam & Pequeño HalcónPequeño Universo 2000 & Pequeño Warrior
Tecnicos took the final 2.
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Hombre Bala Jr., Super Halcon Jr. DQ Puma King, Rayo Tapatío I, Rayo Tapatío II
Rayo Tapatios jumped Maya in the aisle and ripped up his mask. Bala’s mask was untied. Tecnicos rallied to pull out the first fall. Rudos dominated the second, tecnicos came back, a Rayo fouled Maya as Maya took that Rayo’s mask. Referee DQed the rudos. More mask match challenges. Dragon Lee continues to not exist.
3) Euforia, Hooligan, Loco MaxMolotov, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
Tecnicos won the first fall, but the rudos took the last two for teh win.
4) Black Warrior, Metal Blanco, Palacio NegroEphesto, Felino, Misterioso II
Tecnicos took the last two fall. Felino was in comedy mode.
5) Héctor Garza, Mr. Niebla, Volador Jr.La Máscara, Máximo, Super Porky
Rudos took 1/3, Volador backcracker on La Mascara in the third.

Today’s SuperLuchas (#414) reports Ultimo Guerrero has been added to the CMLL programming department in recent weeks. No word on exatly when or what he’s responsible for.

The same Tribuna Luchistica also explains why Durango Kid got dropped from CMLL: he was one of the guys responsible for setting up Mistico and others with tryouts for WWE back in October. After Diamante was found out to be one of those who tried out, he outed Durango Kid in to save himself. Diamante still got quietly suspended, but Durango Kid was fired. (Durango worked in CMLL until the end of February, so either Diamante didn’t tell right away, or they gave him a few weeks notice.) The Psi-Histeria gimmick shown recently in Luchas 2000 was meant for Durango Kid, but won’t be used in CMLL.

LA Park tells Mi Lucha Libre that he’ll retire if he loses his mask to Mesias. He better not lose! It’s actually amazing how much this mask means, given everyone knows LA Park’s real name (because he’s told us) and it’s not too hard to find a picture of him as unmasked Principe Island. It’s the principal of LA Park not being able to be LA Park anymore (though even I’d suspect he’d still find a way.)

Speaking of retiring people, Tinieblas Sr. explains that show on 05/21 is not his last match. It’s just a deal where they’re promoting any show he does in any town as the last match he will ever have in that town. He says the retirement tour of 2010 was canceled due organized crime, the retirement tour of early 2011 was canceled due to hurricanes, but this one is totally going to stick – at least 30 shows, matches in Arena Mexico and Palacio de los Deportes, the same song and dance he says every time (and then only can find a couple promoters willing to pay up.) Tinieblas says he won’t be wrestling by 2012, we’ll see.

  • The Gladiatores celebrates it’s 5th Anniversary. Congratulations!
  • El Chiclayano, a well known Peruvian luchador, passed away this past week.
  • Luchas 2000 #571 has the TripleMania matches, highlighting Mesias vs LA Park.
  • DJ Spectro looks back at Casandro & Rudy Reyna vs Matematico & Sasuke from Arena Neza. He has it as 1993, but I believe it was 06/17/1992.
  • Black Terry Jr. has photos from Gym Ham Lee (for what might be a Mi Lucha Libre feature?) and from the Rey Escorpion benefit show.
  • Cesar rates Forjando un Idolo as the best thing CMLL’s done in the first third of the year and complains about Peste Negra.

Lineups

IWRG (THU) 05/26/2011 Arena Naucalpan
1) Dragon Fly & Tritón vs Alan Extreme & Vampiro Metálico
2) Black Terry, Chico Che, Hijo de Clímax vs Carta Brava Jr., Comando Negro, El Pollo Asesino
3) Dr. Cerebro vs Multifacético
4) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Fresero Jr., Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Máscara Año 2000 Jr.

No title mentioned for the semifinal.

CMLL (FRI) 05/27/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Starman & Tigre Blanco vs Disturbio & Mortiz
2) Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Marcela vs Amapola, Estrellita, Princesa Sujei
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Valiente vs El Alebrije, Histeria, Olímpico
4) Blue Panther, Strong Man, Super Porky vs Héctor Garza, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero
5) Ángel de Oro vs Pólvora [Forjando un Idolo, final]
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máximo vs Averno, Terrible, Texano

That means, if patterns hold (who knows), the Forjando un Idolo would not air on the main show, after weeks of the tournament airing on this show. That is a silly way to go.

Histeria’s appearance in the tercera is his first Arena Mexico match since October 15. He’s wrestled on CMLL spots shows and very rarely in Arena Coliseo & Arena Puebla this year.

CMLL (SUN) 05/29/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Titanio vs Templario
2) Drago & León Blanco vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
3) Pegasso & Rey Cometa vs Exterminador & Malefico
4) Gallo, Sagrado, Sangre Azteca vs Ephesto, Misterioso Jr., Virus
5) Ángel de Oro, Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.

CMLL’s TV said the winner of Forjando un Idolo would be elevated to the top matches, and that’s Angel de Oro in the top matches two days after the final. Could just be a coincidence, hoping it’s not.

IWRG (SUN) 05/29/2011 Arena Naucalpan
1) Saruman vs Imposible
2) Dinamic Black, Golden Magic, Hijo de Clímax vs Carta Brava Jr., Comando Negro, El Pollo Asesino
3) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
4) Freelance vs Avisman
5) Octagón, Octagoncito, Veneno vs Bestia 666, Damián 666, Mini Psicosis

Semimain should be fun.

Rush/Diamante/Oro keep trios titles, AAA/TNA, new Mistico

CMLL (SUN) 05/08/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Cesar]
1) Astro Boy & BengalaBobby Zavala & Zayco
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Hombre Bala Jr., Sensei DQ Mortiz, Rayo Tapatío I, Rayo Tapatío II
straight falls. Rayo I had Bala suspended in a hold, decided to pull his mask anyway.
3) Metal Blanco, Metro, Palacio NegroCancerbero, Raziel, Yoshihashi
2/3 for the tecnicos. Metro beat Yoshihashi with a German suplex
4) Ángel de Oro, Diamante, RushEl Alebrije, Misterioso II, Olímpico [MEX TRIOS]
Tirantes was referee and slow counted the champs. Tecnicos still won, taking 1/3, Rush pinning Alebrije. Misterioso challenged Rush to a mask vs hair match again. Misterioso dreams of $$$$.
5) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro CasasBlack Warrior, Máximo, Strong Man
1/3 for Peste Negra. Clean pins for Felino & Casas on Warrior & Maximo for the deciding fall.

Today’s AAA TV show in Mexico including a vignette posted earlier online: Jeff Jarrett going around the TNA locker room recruiting various faces and heels to come to AAA with him (and cutting some mixed promos.) People shown included Mr. Anderson, Matt Hardy, Bully Ray, AJ Styles, Beer Money, and Mick Foley, all talking about how much they’d love to go to AAA to show them Mexicans. Oddly, no Hernandez. Other odd thing is Styles & Beer Money are being advertised for a show in Buffalo the same day as TripleMania; they (or other people) seem to be promoting as appearing at a show they’re not appearing at. Maybe they’ll show up on AAA at some other part. (Third odd thing is TNA is changing it’s name next week, but I guess not in Mexico.) Still, this was a great start at introducing people.

Speaking of introducing people, this week’s SuperLuchas says CMLL will debut a new Mistico this Friday. No Mistico is listed on the card, so this would just be an introduction to the crowd. WWE will be in Mexico City on Friday, so this seems like obvious response to that. There’s no indication in the story about who the new Mistico would be. Magnus still seems the most likely person, but it seems far from the certainty it was when the new Mistico concept was still floated. CMLL themselves have made no mention of any of this.

CMLL in Japan

Haven’t seen full results from the Reina debut show yet, but this NikkanSports article does mention two of finishes:
Ayumi b Mima Shimoda [#1, CMLL WOMEN]
Amapola b Marcela [CMLL WOMEN]

I would figure these results mean Amapola is going back to Japan at some point , but Ayumi does mention wanting to come back to CMLL this summer, maybe the title shot would happen here. They’re running at least every other weekend from here on out, so Silueta and Zeuxis should be working regularly.

Rob posted video of CMLL’s tour of Japan in Feb 2000 and AAA’s tapings on 02/13 & 02/25/94.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

2) Golden Magic, Hijo de Clímax, Hijo del Pantera vs Alan Extreme, Carta Brava Jr., El Pollo Asesino
3) Chico Che, Hijo del Brazo, Veneno vs Bombero Infernal, Comando Negro, Fresero Jr.
4) Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Ray Mendoza Jr., Villano IV vs Multifacético, Negro Navarro, Trauma I

Hijo de Climax makes his regular show debut. Hijo del Brazo is a new name, but we may just not know which Brazo it is yet.

Sunday’s Naucalpan show is the Lucha Fan Fest show.

Averno outsmarts Mascara, Oro & Fuego advance, Parka, TNA/AAA, Fantasma

CMLL (FRI) 05/06/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLLRecord (1-2, 5-6)Record (3-4)]
1) Estrellita, La Comandante, Princesa BlancaDalys la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Luna Mágica
La Comandante beat Goya Kong with a splash.
2) Ángel de Plata, Delta, Stuka Jr.Pólvora, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
Plata got some Forjando un Idolo redemption by cradling Polvora as he went for a leg lock for the win.
3) FuegoDiamante [Forjando un Idolo, quarterfinal]
Fuego (UG) used a leglock to get the upset over Diamante (Panther, undefeated up till this.)
4) Ángel de OroGuerrero Maya Jr. [Forjando un Idolo, quarterfinal]
Ultimo Guerrero student over a Shocker student. Maya went for a second rope senton, missed, and Oro immediately put him in a campana for the victory.
5) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, TexanoBlue Panther, Rush, Strong Man
Rudo trio is using the name Fuerza TRT. Rudos avoided Strong Man in the first fall, but he finally got in and cleaned house to set up the tecnico fall. Rudos came back for the less two, all pinning Strong Man in the third after a superbomb.
6) Averno, Negro Casas, Último GuerreroLa Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada
Negro Casas replaced Atlantis. Rudos took the first and the third. Mascara had UG in the campana and seemed about to beat him. Meanwhile, Dorada springboarded at Averno (who’s mask was ripped up by Mascara.) Averno fouled him, distracted the ref, yanked Mascara’s mask off, and pinned Dorada as UG pinned Mascara.

Forjando un Idolo matches

La Parka is making official his new group of himself, the Dark Family, and Drago, and calling it “El Inframundo” (the underworld.) Parka explains he’s a dancing skeleton, Ozz, Cuervo, Espiritu are the living dead, and Drago is an immortal dead dragon. (Of course!)

Dorian Roldan was asking followers on Twitter to tell him which TNA wrestlers they’d like to see. Right now, he’s running a Twitter poll until Monday for which women they would like to see and it seemed like Mickie James & Velvet Sky were winning. Mickie James is probably the best idea of the women available (Dark Angel not being an option), though I’m not sure the Dorian’s Twitter follows are close to an accurate representation of AAA’s fans (who mostly aren’t on Twitter) and bringing in women from TNA or who are now in TNA has produced consistently bad matches leaning towards disasters usually met with indifference from the crowd.

Hijo del Fantasma has often been mentioned as luchador who would do better than others in a US promotion, because he speaks conversational English. According to yesterday’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this is now a problem: CMLL has stepped down Fantasma’s push because they fear WWE will eventually snatch him away, so they don’t want to put Fantasma on top and look like they’re losing a top star. (This is exceedingly dumb if true, but it would explain why the Mephisto feud has totally vanished.)

Rush, talking about the trios title match on Ras de Lona, said he didn’t respect anyone. A fine tecnico. In talking about his title win, Valiente said he’d like to defend against rudos or tecnico in Arena Mexico, mentioning Ultimo Guerrero and Sombra, or move to a bigger weight division. Marcela, Amapola and Mima Shimoda are headed to Japan this weekend for the first Reina show.

3) Delta, Gallo, Metro vs Misterioso Jr., Puma King, Tiger Kid
4) Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Marcela vs Amapola, La Comandante, Princesa Blanca
5) Rush vs Psicosis [CMLL LH]

No.

CMLL (TUE) 05/10/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Bengala vs Disturbio & Semental
2) Dalys la Caribeña, Estrella Mágica, Luna Mágica vs Estrellita, Princesa Sujei, Tiffany

4) Ángel de Oro, Hijo del Fantasma, Valiente vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Felino, Negro Casas
5) Black Warrior, Blue Panther, Strong Man vs Atlantis, Héctor Garza, Mr. Niebla

Tercera should be fun. Ras de Lona had Hector Garza and Volador instead of Felino & Negro Casas, and all of Peste Negra in the main event. Volador hasn’t been on any card since last Sunday.

CMLL (FRI) 05/13/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Höruz, Robin, Trueno vs Artillero, Mortiz, Súper Comando
2) Ángel Azteca, Ángel de Plata, Pegasso vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
3) Pólvora vs Hijo del Signo [Forjando un Idolo, quarterfinal]
4) Delta vs Rey Escorpion [Forjando un Idolo, quarterfinal]
5) Máximo, Super Porky, Toscano vs Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, Terrible
6) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Máscara Dorada vs Averno, Ephesto, Último Guerrero

Ras de Lona had Texano in Negro’s spot, and Mephisto in Ultimo Guerrero’s spot. Might have wanted to get the coaches matches since they have to be there for their students anyway. CMLL.com hasn’t updated their subsite, but it doesn’t look like the first semifinal is this week.

CMLL (SUN) 05/01/2011 Arena Coliseo [Cesar, CMLL]
1) Bronco & Disturbio b Camaleón & Freesbe

2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Hombre Bala Jr., Stuka Jr.Rayo Tapatío I, Rayo Tapatío II, Virus
Tecnicos took the last two falls.
3) Rey EscorpionPalacio Negro [Forjando un Idolo]

4) Ángel de OroRey Cometa [Forjando un Idolo]
Angel de Oro finishes with 3 wins [9] and Rey Cometa [0] winless. The first place finishers – Oro, Delta, Diamante, Polvora – all end with perfect records. Cometa, Puma King and Angel de Plata all finished with zero points.
5) El Alebrije, Misterioso Jr., OlímpicoDiamante, Metro, Rush
Rudos took the last two falls, then made the expected title challenge for next week. Misterioso challenges Rush for a mask vs hair match. Keep dreaming.
6) Atlantis, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.Black Warrior, Blue Panther, La Sombra
Rudos took one and three, Atlantis & Volador beating Sombra & Panther.

Saturday’s Arena Lopez Mateos show, to help Rey Escorpion pay for an operation for his child saw Rey Escorpion, Ultimo Guerrero, and Atlantis beat Villano IV, Villano V and Scorpio Jr. Straight fall win for the Guerreros, Rey Escorpion wiping out Scorpio Jr. with a dive while his parnters took care of the Guerreros. Amo La Lucha Libre has video of this match. Black Terry Jr. has video of Navarro & Traumas vs Solar, Chucho el Roto, and Iron Love: fall 1, fall 2, fall 3.

DTU’s Kids Day show included lap dances, men on women violence, and other lunacy. DTU: Keeping It Real.

Forjando un Idolo

I enjoyed both of these. Seems like the Puebla matches aren’t airing. Just to rub it in, Porra Fresa says Delta vs Guerrero Maya Jr. was the best match he’s seen in the tournament.

CMLL in NJPW
05/01:  Davey Richards (O), Rocky Romero, Mascara Dorada b Prince Devitt, Ryusuke Taguchi (X), Jushin Liger
Next show is the 05/03 title match.

LuchaWorld has the last two Ras de Lonas.

SuperLuchas #411 has a spiffy new look. Inside is an interview with Hijo del Santo (in full Hijo del Santo, telling us he could’ve beaten Fishman or Villano III for their masks but he had too much respect for them to challenge them, fishing for someone to pay for a Hijo del Solitario mask match, explaining Super Astros set the stage for Sin Cara & Alberto del Rio)

4) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Toscano vs Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero

That’s a match to challenge for Gallo’s title. Though I wonder what they’re going to do with Metal Blanco’s title if he’s not going to be around here (and probably isn’t losing to one who’s sticking around.) ACG Drago is not the AAA Drago.

CMLL (SAT) 05/21/2011 Arena Lopez Mateos

This is (also?) a Rey Escorpion benefit show, though he doesn’t wrestle on this one. Really stacked lineup, should be a fun card.
