The big news: overly excited dancing edecan really frizzed out her hair. There was also another Hector Garza match.

Diamante, Guerrero Maya Jr., Sagrado vs Pólvora, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi: Match was fine, even with a little part that got odd in the third fall. The real weird part is it was pretty obviously supposed to be setting up Sagrado challenging Okumura for the Occidente LH title, so much that the announcers even picked up on it. It would’ve explained the whole deal with Gallo losing twice; Sagrado being used as local GDL hero is a good role for him. Except, these two haven’t met again in Guadalajara since. Plan got changed when management did? This is the second random Sagrado/Okumura feud to pop up out of nowhere and go right back there; someone must think it’s a swell idea, but that person doesn’t seem to have enough power to get it done.

metaphor?

Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, Toscano vs Mr. Águila, Terrible, Texano: definition of a by the numbers match. Not a bad match, but one where they’re just doing the same bits they’ve done many times before until they can be done with this and onto whatever’s next.

Zacarias en accion

Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Valiente vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Olímpico: more effort than I expected, especially some nice activity in the first fall. (The most I’ve enjoyed Olímpico.) Despite the finish, it didn’t feel like they were doing anything with the Mephisto/Fantasma feud; they just happened to be matched up here.

La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas: Porra Fresa said people were more into Niebla/Mascara than Atlantis/Sombra at the end of this. I still want to see Atlantis forced to face Sombra, but he’s right – the other feud came off surprisingly strong for something that just seemed like a usual random técnico/rudo matchup, up until the finish. More to come (maybe)

This is now Puebla now, which is neat. This show was had many of the issues of the GDL shows transferred to Puebla, which is not neat.

A large reason the TVC Deports Puebla shows were very popular were getting to catch out the nifty local wrestlers. They’re talented and they’re hard to find; even in their home building, they’re lucky to get two matches a month. A one hour show that just shows the two matches means we never get to see the likes of Toro Bill and Siki Osama Jr. again, which would be drastically disappointing.

triple frontcracker?

The group putting these shows together has access to Monday Puebla shows and Tuesday Guadalajara shows. (I’ve also been told they have the Sunday Guadalajara shows, though no one even in Guadalajara knows where that’s airing.) This show is not being taped live, the commentary is all being done after the fact, probably just as easy as someone rolling a tape and whichever announcers are around talk over it. If you have all that raw video, and it’s the same anyway, there’s no reason to air specifically the semimain and main event each week. Just cue up the two best matches of the week (or even just guess!) and watch those. No one’s gone to mind if you shift arenas or days between shows if they get to see great matches.

In other words: only showing Virus/Valiente on the screen behind you was cruel to any fan of lucha libre. Please don’t taunt the animals in their cages!

La Máscara, Máscara Dorada, Máximo vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano: The other reason people talk up Puebla is the general feeling that Guadalajara has more mailed in matches. We’ve seen some of them on this show recently, and this match could’ve fit with all of those. Nothing wrong with it, but it no extra excitement or interest in it. It was a routine match, extra surprising for when you’d expect the new rudo team to be expressing themselves.

La Sombra, Rush, Tigre Rojo Jr. vs Atlantis, Averno, Último Guerrero: not a lot to this match, but Atlantis did his best to make you want to see Sombra get a hold of him. (Sombra was really good about wanting to get to Atlantis, but not really intense when he finally got him.) Tiger Rojo didn’t seem out of his depth, but did seem a bit nervous and didn’t not showcase himself in other way where I feel like I need to see him again. Rush looked good, at least.
