CMLL on FSE #7 (09/24/06)

taped 09/24/06

The third straight ripped up episode. By this point, FSE figured they should give the finishes, so we get 2 minutes of a womens match and the final two falls of a trios match.

It occurs to me now, if FSE really wanted to be helpful, they’d ditch the first segment, since it’s just hype and teases, rather than cutting out stuff that’s actually being hyped and teases. It’s kinda tough to skip the opening of a show, I guess.

I want to be annoyed about Averno and Negro being cut out, because it’s a rare CMLL TV match between upper level workers (a bit too rare of late), but I don’t think one more fall would’ve saved it. This was Every CMLL Singles Match Ever for the final two falls, what with the quick tecnico pin, taking 10 seconds of rest between every move in the third fall, super slow counts, the “tecnico does a dive, comes back in first, celebrates on his knees, gets pulled into a caverneria, fights free” spot they’re apparently required by law to do every time; it felt like enough title match clinches so it qualifies as a title match and very little desire to do any more. And it wasn’t well done enough to overcome the lack of imagination. Disappointing.

FSE should’ve have a big shot of Averno winning the belt at some point here, but they appeared to forget until we saw it on him during the post match interview. That’s championships in Mexico.

02/27: Misterio, Puebla, Guadalajara, Naucalpan, AULL

La Presna confirms parts of the Rey de Reyes lineup. Rey Misterio will be there (only because it’s supposed to be a benefit for Konnan), and the main event is Cibernetico, Charly Manson, and Chessman vs Scott Steiner, “another one of TNA”, and “another surprise” – the last is surely Kenzo, since that’s what has been mentioned elsewhere.

CMLL (MON) 02/26 Arena Puebla
1) SWAT, the Tigre, Zigma b Fuerza Chicana, Murcielago, Siki Ozama
2) Mini Damian, Mini Halloween, Mini Mr. Aguila b Asturiano, Blue Center, Ultimo Dragoncito
3) Emilio Charles Jr., Ohara, Okumura b Maximo, Metro II, Sagrado
4) Alex Koslov, Ultimo Dragon, Volador Jr. b Efesto, Mephisto, Terrible
5) Averno b Mistico [CMLL MIDDLE]

Averno fouled Mistico and got the pin.

5) Avisman & Black Terry b Cerebro Negro & Freelance [losers advance]
6) Cerebro Negro b Freelance [IWRG WELTER]

No explaination why Cerebro Negro and Suicida switched spots. Dandy and Villano III busted each other open, with a beer bottle coming into play at the finish. Coco Blanco got eliminated in the final fall of the tercera, but snuck back in and fouled Kid Tiger to help his team win.

IWRG (THU) 03/01 Arena Naucalpan
1) Celestial vs Volcan Negro
2) Ave Fenix & Kid Tiger vs Bestial & Dr. Maldad
3) Fantasma de la Opera, Trauma I, Trauma II vs Aki, Fabian el Gitano, Yamato

There’s a new Halcon up! #86
– Interview with Blue Demon Jr.
– Q&A with Espiritu Guerrero, who has a cool mask
– Bio of El Hlacon
– Interview with Princesa Blanca – she says she’s back in AAA. She is? I read this wrong, never mind.
– Fact sheet on Explosivo.
– The history of the original el Halcon

I like the new design.

El Siglo de Torreon has an article on the 03/01 Wagner show.

02/23: Mexico, IWRG, Lineups, GdR

CMLL (FRI) 02/23 Arena Mexico [ova, superluchas, notimex]
1) Shockercito & Tzuki b Fire & Pierrothito
2) Amapola, Hiroka, Mima Shimoda b Dark Angel, India Sioux, Lady Apache
3) Averno, Mephisto, Sangre Azteca b Blue Panther, La Mascara, Maximo
4) Alex Koslov, Marco Corleone, Rey Bucanero DQ Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000
5) Hector Garza, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mr. Aguila b Lizmark Jr., Mistico, Volador Jr.

Misitico dove off the stage to start the main event, but Ocampo’s ecap makes it sound like he was pretty much on his own for the first two falls. Being Mistico, he won the second one. His partners got pinned in the third, not Mistico, and Mistico challenged Perro to a stips match, but they always do that.

Alex wore a sombero when he did his hat dance kicks. Marco tried to end Universo with a Tombstone once again, but the refs broke it up again, and Universo fouled him again. Ocampo suggests Marco could take over as lead tecnico should Mistico go to WWE; I like Marco too, but that seems a bit hopeful.

Amapola beat Lady Apache, so we’re heading back in that direction again – but women aren’t on any of the DF cards next week.

IWRG (THU) 02/22 Arena Naucalpan
1) Black Stone b Aguila Oriental
2) Yamato & Kai b Trauma I & Trauma II
3) Avisman, Camorra, Supremo Jr. b Bacteria, Freelnace, Kid Tiger
4) Dr. Cerebro, Heavy Metal, Trauma I DQ Kaz Hayashi, Nosawa, Pierroth
5) Suicida L Cerebro Negro, Electroshock, Villano III, El Dandy, Hijo del Diablo, Fantasma de la Opera, Bestia Salvaje [hair]

The lineup Ovaciones had on Thursday was completely wrong for the undercard – it was as IWRG initially had listed, with some subs. Black Pentagon didn’t lose his title in the main event because Black Pentagon wasn’t there – Cerebro Negro filled in for him, and took his ally Suicida’s hair. Kai and Yamato are trainees from whichever promotion Hayashi’s coming from.

Next week’s posted lineups:

CMLL (MON) 02/26 Arena Puebla
1) SWAT, the Tigre, Zigma vs Fuerza Chicana, Murcielago, Siki Ozama
2) Asturiano, Blue Center, Ultimo Dragoncito vs Mini Damian, Mini Halloween, Mini Mr. Aguila
3) Maximo, Metro II, Sagrado vs Emilio Charles Jr., Ohara, Okumura
4) Alex Koslov, Ultimo Dragon, Volador Jr. vs Efesto, Mephisto, Terrible
5) Averno vs Mistico [CMLL MIDDLE]

They did the main event in Queretaro last week, and Averno actually wins these matches. It’s all very odd.

CMLL (FRI) 03/02 Arena Mexico
1) Danger & Trueno vs Hooligan & Ramstein
2) Leono, Metro II, Virus vs Loco Max, Nitro, Okumura
3) Felino, Sagrado, Ultimo Dragon vs Eclipse, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Heavy Metal, La Mascara, Mistico vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Alex Koslov, Marco Corleone, Rey Bucanero vs Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000

They’re going to tease Mistico/Averno this week.

CMLL (TUE) 02/27 Arena Coliseo
1) Bracito de Oro & Mini Olimpico vs Mini Violencia & Pierrothito
2) Moltov, Sensei, Sombra de Plata vs Polvora, Vaquero, Zayco
3) Brillante, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Apocalipsis, Arkangel, Dr. X
4) Mictlan, Sagrado, Texano Jr. vs Ephesto, Misterioso II, Okumura
5) Dos Caras Jr., Heavy Metal, Lizmark Jr. vs Atlantis, Black Warrior, Pierroth

Who’s Brillante? There’s an Arena Xalapa undercarder by that name, so he’s probably a Skayde trainee. Sounds good to me.

CMLL (SUN) 03/04 Arena Coliseo
1) Mini Olimpico & Shockercito vs Fire & Sombrita
2) Fabian el Gitano, Starman, Tony Rivera vs Apocalipsis, Hooligan, Ramstein
3) Leono, Tigre Blanco, TIgre Metalico vs Hijo de Pierroth, Mogur, Mr. Mexico
4) Dos Caras Jr., Lizmark Jr., Marco Corleone vs Olimpico, Pierroth, Universo 2000
5) Mistico, Shocker, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Black Warrior, Mephisto

That’s quite the semimain.

GdR has
unmasked: Kempo Kid
02/18 Coliseo: Arkangel, Mogur, Nitro vs Leono, Texano Jr., Virus
02/08 Mexico: Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto b Blue Panther, Lizmark Jr., Satanico

Well, that’s strange, but good (I think). They didn’t repeat that segunda here – will/did they repeat it on FSE? They also have new wacky fall graphics, which are amusing at least the first time.

02/06: Puebla

CMLL (MON) 02/05 Arena Puebla Results [hugo999]
1) King Jaguar, SWAT b Ares, Murcielago
2) Asturiano, Centella de Oro, the Tiger DQ Espiritu Maligno, Fuerza Chicana, Siki Osama
3) Cien Caras Jr., Mascara Purpura, Virus b Dr. X, Emilio Charles Jr., Okumura
4) Dos Caras Jr., Fuerza Chicana, Negro Casas DQ Alex Koslov, Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero
5) Texano Jr. b Maniacop [hair]
6) Averno b Volador Jr. [CMLL MIDDLE]

The hair match was announced as one fall, and Maniacop got the fall. And the commissioner had the announcer announce that it was two of three falls, and you know what happened from there. That’s screwy.

Headline in El Sol De Zacatecas: “I wear a mask because I am ugly: Mistico.” Well, then. This is one of those interviews that does mention his past as Dr. Karonte Jr. and Astro Boy

Lineups for the rest of the week are below

I think you know the main event finish. Semimain saw the first two falls go to count outs, and Pierroth fake a foul in the third fall but get caught. Please don’t let that match make TV, thanks.

On the same day, Averno beat Mistico in Arena Neza to retain the CMLL Middleweight Championship. They’ve been pushing Los Rayo Tapatios strong as a local tag team there since CMLL took it back over (again.)

Warner and CMLL are working together to produce some CMLL cartoons and comics, feature guys like Los Perros, Mistico, and the Guerreros. They’ll start appearing in March, and they say you’ll be able to buy them over the internet. (Esto)

Mundo De Hoy has a preview of the CMLL VIP show this Saturday and an interview with the promoters. They’ve got the familiar story of wanting to be luchadores, training and their parents not liking the idea, but the unfamiliar twist of actually listening to their parents.
