FILL trainees vs Gimnasio Fuerza Konkreto (Fuerza Guerrera). Kimby impressed of the Fuerza guys. Match came down to Mr. Leo vs Centviron, with Fuerza intefering to give his guy the win. Black Terry was very unhappy, and their were rematches and other challenges made.

CMLL (MON) 11/12/2012 Arena Puebla [Porra Fresa]
1) Akron & Siki Ozama Jr. b Black Tiger & Blue Center
Rudos took 1/3.
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Lady Afrodita, Marcela b La Vaquerita, Mima Shimoda, Zeuxis
Tecnicos took 2/3, Marcela defeating Zeuxis for the win. Vaquerita, working against Afrodita, looked lost at times.
3) Skándalo b Metatrón [lightning]
Reyna Isis accompanied Skandalo. Skandalo won with the Skandalo Driver. Metatron had one of his better performances.
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Triton b Misterioso Jr., Namajague, Shigeo Okumura
Tecnicos took 1/3, Fantasma surprising Misterioso with a roll up.
5) La Sombra, Máximo, Rush DQ Tama Tonga, Terrible, Tiger
Tecnicos took 1/3, Terrible fouling Sombra in the third fall. Sombra challenged Terrible to a singles match, but Terrible just left.
6) Mephisto b Mistico
Mephisto won the first with a powerbomb, Mistico came back in the second with a torito. Mistico landed his rope crossing dive late in the ring, then landed a shooting star press once without being able to get the pin. Moments later, he went for another, but his feet hit the the ropes on the way down and Mistico crashed shoulder first into the mat. Mistico attempted to cover Mephisto anyway, but Mephisto put him in an armbar and Mistico immediately gave up. The doctor and Tirantes attended to Mistico after the match.

CMLL hasn’t said anything about Mistico’s status, but the local promoter in Durango says Mistico has suffered a shoulder injury and will not be wrestling at their show on Sunday, though he will be appearing to sign autographs. Hope he didn’t hurt his signing shoulder. Delta replaces him on that card. Mistico is supposed to be on Friday night’s Arena Mexico show, and no replacement has been announced yet.

2) Demus 3:16, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior b Astral, Bam Bam, Pequeño Halcón
Rudos took 1/3. Bam Bam’s latest return, though it ended with Demus dropping him with his piledriver so he could be gone again. Olimpico also submitted Ultimo Dragon.
3) Fuego, Stuka Jr., Triton DQ Hijo del Signo, Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis
Stuka & Okumura are feuding (or maybe this is the Coliseo tag team feud again.) Stuka beat fall 1, then the rudos were DQed for excessive violence in the second.
4) Blue Panther, Máscara Dorada, Valiente b Niebla Roja, Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
Straight falls for the tecnicos when the rudos fell apart. Polvora sided with Rey Escorpion and Niebla Roja wasa left without his mask.
5) Negro Casas b Ángel de Oro [lightning]
Negro continued his dominance over Angel de Oro with a win in 8:49.
6) Tama Tonga & Terrible b Atlantis & Diamante Azul [CMLL TAG]
Atlantis & Diamante Azul came in as champions, but Tonga & Terrible pulled the shocking upset, taking falls 1/3 to win the titles.

Aerostar, Dark Dragon and Fenix won the main event over Difunto I, Monje Negro Jr., and Potro Jr. by DQ in Monterrey, with Dark Dragon refused to help his teammates.

MedioTiempo has an interview with Mesias. He talks a bit about his match with Texano, but also calls LA Park his toughest rival since coming to Mexico, and trashes Carlito as someone’s been handing everything and used his influence to keep Mesias from going to WWE.

I will be losing AYM Sports from my cable system on 12/12. AYM has broadcasts Sobre el Ring (the Javier Llanes/Jaque Mate interview show) and various independent groups (Revolution Free Style! FULL!), but is most notable for broadcasting IWRG’s Sunday shows the last couple months. I’m going to miss those, there’s been some really great and fun matches during this short run. The show drives me crazy because I’m up until way too late to put it together for the Tuesday post, but I’ve been thrilled to share the matches with everyone else. We’ve got four more Mondays to go.

I think it may be a case where everyone in the United States is losing AYM; this is not a surprise, one of you mentioned a month back they tried to sign up to get the channel only to be told AYM was going away by their cable system. The channel that replaces it is “Latin American Sports“, and is owned by the same parent company, so they may have simply decided to change which channel they wanted to transmit to the US. AYM Sports itself will still keep broadcasting in Mexico and continue the lucha libre shows, I just won’t be able to share them. The channel description for Latin American Sports says it too broadcasts wrestling (possibly from Puerto Rico?), but does not say what. It’s supposedly already on DISH Network, but I can’t find a guide with a programming listing and there is no website.

Murder Clown is upset the Infierno Rockers would attack them from behind. That’s not very gentlemanly! There’s also talk about the Psycho Circus wanting the trios titles back. It’s seemed like AAA may be doing a Psycho Circus vs Consejo trios title rematch (with Silver defending the title instead of Texano), and that’s suggested in this article agian, but maybe it’ll turn out to be three way with the Rockers?

Joe Lider & Kaientai will face off in a hair vs mask match on NGX’s 10th anniversary show.

DTU luchador Tacubo will be given an award for his anti-bullying campagin.

R de Rudo has a podcast talking about Eddie Guerrero, 7 years after his passing. Perros del Mal will also discuss Eddie Guerrero on their podcast.

AAA’s website has an article about how AAAwesome AAA is. If they really want talk about how they have zero taboos, maybe they can mention Extreme Tiger leaving.

AAA also has part one and part two of their interview with Psycho Circus.

X-Project is doing it’s annual toy drive, this one for Fray Tormenta.

El Hijo del Santo was part of a press conference to promote a film festival in Mexico City later this month.

Lineups

CMLL

CMLL (TUE) 11/20/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Halcón de Plata & Metatrón vs Exterminador & Magnum
2) Gallo, Sensei, Starman vs Bárbaro Cavernario, Cancerbero, Raziel
3) Dalis la Caribeña, Estrellita, Silueta vs La Comandante, Princesa Blanca, Zeuxis
4) Atlantis, Hijo del Fantasma, Máscara Dorada vs Morphosis, Psicosis, Tama Tonga
5) La Máscara vs Volador Jr.

This is the seventh La Mascara/Volador Jr. match this year, and third in Guadalajara. They’ve split the other two.

A increasingly rare Morphosis appearance! His first match in CMLL in two months, his first appearance in Guadalajara since February. Mophosis seems to spend most of his time in Texas/northern Mexico, where he’s still working as Histeria.

More loaded card than usual means Metatron is down to the opener here.

IWRG (SUN) 11/18/2012 Arena Naucalpan
1) Astro Rey Jr. & Serpiente de Oro vs Dragón Celestial & Epidemia
2) Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Trauma II vs Carta Brava Jr., Eita, Oficial Fierro
3) Dinamic Black, Golden Magic, Saruman vs Alan Extreme, Imposible, Jack
4) Hijo de Pirata Morgan vs Veneno, Trauma I, Oficial AK47, Cien Caras Jr., Relámpago, Canis Lupus, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 [#1 Contenders, Rey de Ring]
5) el Ángel vs Oficial 911 [IWRG IC WELTER]

It’s been a long six days since the last IWRG tournament. Relampago is going to keep going into these until he finally wins a match. Last #1 contenders match meant an immediate title match, not sure if that’s the same here.

911 vs Angel looks really good, as do the 2nd and 3rd match. It looked like Cerebro Negro was headed towards the rudo side in last weekend’s tournament, something to watch here. Interesting to see Trauma II scheduled for a segunda.

They’re doing a 3 for a price of 2 ticket deal.

6) Atlantis, La Máscara, Mistico DQ Averno, Felino, Mephisto
Felino replaced Ephesto. Mascara pinned Averno in the first, then Mephisto pulled Mistico’s mask in the second in a disappointing match. Mistico challenged Mephisto a singles match.

Was Ephesto hurt on Sunday and I’ve forgot about it?

CMLL (TUE) 10/30/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Metatrón b Exterminador
2) Pequeño Warrior b Shockercito and Aereo and Pequeño Halcón and Astral and Último Dragoncito and Fantasy and Demus 3:16 and Pierrothito and Mercurio and Pequeño Olímpico and Pequeño Violencia [Mini Reyes del Aire]
Pequeno Warrior won the match, which set up a cage match next week! Shockercito may have been hurt on a dive.
3) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada b Kráneo, Olímpico, Psicosis
4) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Rush b Averno, Mephisto, Tama Tonga [CMLL TRIOS]
Tama Tonga replaced Ephesto. Love Buffet came in as champs, and took falls 2/3 to keep the titles. Last week’s match was Maximo vs Averno, and this week Maximo kissed and cradled Averno to keep the titles.

Results were from radio station Canal58, which appears to be doing live PBP of Tuesday and Sunday Guadalajara shows. Satanico joined the commentators a couple times.

2) Artillero, Hooligan, Súper Comando b Camaleón, Pegasso, Sensei

4) Rey Cometa b Sangre Azteca [lightning]
Cometa won with a 450 splash in 8:10.
5) Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero b Diamante Azul, Mistico, Stuka Jr.
Rudos took 2/3, Euforia & Niebla getting the pins while Mistico dove onto Mistico.
6) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. b Black Warrior, Mr. Águila, Volador Jr. [MEX TRIOS]
Volador, Mr. Aguila, and Black Warrior came in as champs. Delta & Maya took 1, Volador took the second with a backcracker on Atlantis, and Atlantis won the match with an Atlantida on Volador (again!) Reyes del Atlantida are champions as a team for a third time, Atlantis has won the titles three times.

Shocker & Brazo de Plata beat Terrible & Dragon Rojo in Arena Queretaro. In the undercard, Amapola (replacing Tiffany) was beat by local luchador Reyna Azteca in a tag match. The Quereatro wrestler challenged for a title match.

The semi-official Noti AAA Facebook site confirmed Decnnis was leaving AAA, then took down that post, put up another post saying all the rumored people leaving AAA (Tiger, Wagner) were not true. That’s totally not confusing. In the comments of the last post, they say Wagner is joining going back to being an independent who works with AAA. (The difference there is if AAA controls his booking for non TV shows and what cut they need; someone the level of Wagner doesn’t need AAA for that.) As for Extreme Tiger, he’s scheduled to work tonight’s Halloween show in Arena Lopez Mateos, which would be an easy time for him to confirm or deny rumors.

Arena Neza’s Facebook writes Vampiro will miss this weekend’s AAA Fusion taping. Vampiro’s said the same, going on to say he’s busy with another show and AAA never told him he was on this show. Same thing happened last time Vampiro missed a taping. Mesias will take his place, which greatly improves the match. AAA hasn’t acknowledged the change yet.

Quien Pinta Por La Corona held a press conference in Guadalajara for the event there on 11/10 and 11/11. QPPLC also posted profiles of some of the finalists: Rey Maya (nephew of Canek!), Forajido (inspired by Cibernetico and Gronda), Full Back Jr. (snuck off to train with Canek), Demoledor (36 years old), and New Fire Jr.

Samuray del Sol was on Figure Four Daily yesterday (subscriber only) in a really good interview where he talked a lot about his career. His story about being in last year’s QPPLC contest was my favorite part. Samuray never actually signed up for the contest himself, Crazy Boy just invited him to come to Veracruz, then signed Samuray up without him knowing to get Samuray in front of AAA people. Samuray was under the impression the talent contest – at least by the final – was set up for Daga to win, saying AAA officials wanted him specifically to work with Daga since he could do the style Daga likes to do and Daga would look like a star.

Rob has highlights of 04/13/12 CMLL and has updated his MOTYC list.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Lucha Libre in Japan

Fabi Apache, Sexi Star, Lolita and Jennifer Blake are headed to WAVE for their AAA Reina de Reinas on 11/27. The Japanese promotion had previously announced the show, this is the first time the Mexican promotion has acknowledged it. The article is mostly talking about Fabi Apache’s training and previous time in Japan. WAVE also mentions Pimpinela and Fenix working on the show in a bonus match with CIMA, which hasn’t yet been announced by AAA.

Cage match, just not at all the one I thought. Warrior winning the Reyes del Aire means he’s a favorite to lose here.

2) Cancerbero, Hijo del Signo, Raziel b Bengala, Metálico, Sensei
3) Pierrothito b Último Dragoncito [lightning]
Pierrothito won in 7:12.
4) Fuego, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. b Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis
Tecnicos took 2/3, Sagrado pinning Okumura.
5) Niebla Roja, Terrible, Tiger b Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Hijo del Fantasma
Niebla Roja replaced Rey Bucanero, who suffered a knee injury Monday in Puebla. Rudos took 2/3. Angel de Oro hurt his knee, and Niebla Roja seemed very concerned.
6) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. b Black Warrior, Mr. Águila, Volador Jr.
Delta wore pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Euforia started the match for the rudos, but was replaced by a late arriving Mr. Aguila (so late he didn’t have his hair up or his facepaint on.) Tecnicos won and challenged for a rematch.

CMLL (TUE) 10/23/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Virgo b Thunder Boy
2) Metatrón & Smaker b Exterminador & Ráfaga
Smaker replaced Black Metal, Rafaga replaced Malefico.
3) Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior b Aereo, Pequeño Halcón, Shockercito
4) Ephesto, Mephisto, Tama Tonga b La Sombra, Marco Corleone, Rush
Tonga pinned Sombra in the first/third.
5) Máximo DQ Averno
Averno got help from Mephisto and Ephesto. Maximo snuck in a small package, and the rudos ran in for the DQ. Rush & Marco tried to make the save but were laid out, leading to a trios title match next week.

Halloween wrote he suffered one broken rib and two fractured ribs in Sunday’s title match with Ricky Marvin & Super Crazy. He does not know when he will be able to return. (Website suggests a painful 6-10 week recovery, which means he’s probably done for the year.) We can only hope this doesn’t hurt his chances with Mari Apache.

R de Rudo caught up to Damian 666 to ask what was with Mr. Aguila teaming with him last weekend. He explained it as X-Fly missing a flight back from Ciudad Juarez and Aguila filling in as a one time replacement. Damian’s off to Panama this weekend.

Heddi Karaoui is out of Thursday’s IWRG IC Middleweight Championship match. Relampago legdropped him on the head on Thursday, concussion Karaoui and taking him out of one of his biggest matches since coming to Mexico. Oficial AK47 takes Karaoui’s spot. That’s much more interesting match to me, but it’s unfortunate for Karaoui.

Kaiser Sports has this message posted on top of their website:

A nuestros queridos amigos, seguidores y lectores: Ante las nuevas disposiciones del CMLL que limitan nuestro libre ejercicio profesional, desde este 23 de octubre ya no podremos ofrecer información al respecto, pues consideramos que valores como la lealtad y el respeto deben ser mutuos, no solo unilateralmente, Gracias.

CMLL is implementing some new policy “that limits our profession” so they’ll no longer be covering CMLL “because we feel values of loyalty and respect must be mutual.” Harsh. I wonder what “limits our profession” means? CMLL demanding approval over anything posted?

Whatever it is, this is really disappointing. It’s another excellent source of CMLL news run off by CMLL. Many times, like the recent Guerrero break up, the Kaiser Sports interviews have done a better job of explaining and getting over CMLL’s storylines than CMLL’s done on their own. CMLL is still covered in papers and some of the magazines, but most of the coverage is frequently dry lineups and results, nothing that would cause someone to be interested in CMLL if they weren’t already. It’s also usually the same article just reprinted as copy everywhere; this is a source of original material that’s just going to be gone and not replaced. CMLL and Kaiser Sports had a falling out about a year ago that was eventually resolved, hopefully that’ll just repeat.

It also has some slight international implications, since they were supplying NJPW with interview photos when their guys would come to CMLL (Alexis sends the match/press conference ones.)

Hijo de LA Park and Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. will be in the Castle of Terror after all.

LuchaWorld has Alfredo on this week’s 52MX show.

4) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Rush vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto [CMLL TRIOS]
Love Buffet are champs.

Fun show. Main event should be good, semimain should be a fun romp for the tecnicos, and pequeno estrellas all flying around in the opener. (Also, Metatron.) Like the full sized version, this is a repeat from doing the tournament in May in Arena Mexico. Even CMLL can’t keep track of it’s tournaments.

4) Fuego, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro b Euforia, Hijo del Signo, Virus
Fuego defeated Virus in the third.
5) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Shocker b Ephesto, Mephisto, Pólvora
Tecnicos took 2/3. Angel de Oro dove on Mephisto, and Shocker and Angel de Oro pinned the other two.
6) Atlantis, Héctor Garza, La Máscara b Dragón Rojo Jr., Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero
Straight fall win. Excessive violence DQ in the first for beating up Garza, then Garza pinned UG in the second after a moonsault. Garza challenged UG for a title shot, his fifth, and UG accepted. Ultimo in turn challenged Atlantis to pick a side!

Feels like they’re just going to do the tease all the way to September.

Mr. Niebla has new music. I have no idea why you’d do that.

Other News

Dr. X held a press conference yesterday to officially announce his departure from CMLL. CMLL owns the Dr. X name, so he’ll now be going by Dr. Xtreme. (Depending on who’s recap you read, it’s spelled that way, or it’s spelled X-Treme, or it’s spelled Extreme and Xtreme in the same post. ) He’ll debut on tonight’s Perros del Mal show in Atizapan, and did a promo for it on their facebook. Dr. Xtreme says he’s talked to AAA, and it sounds like he’ll just be doing any work that comes his way.

Guerrero Maya Jr. returns to action this weekend. He’s claiming Ultimo Guerrero actually hurt his arm, and Negro just took advantage of it the next week. Amazing how many things seem to revolve around Ultimo Guerrero.

This week’s Ras de Lona, at the Police Museum, included a lot of minis talking about the big minis tournament. Oddly, Mascarita Dorada, Demus 3:16, Mercurio and Aereo talked about as if they were in it, but those four were specifically not included in Thursday’s list of names. Others talked about facing same side luchadors in apuesta matches, which isn’t actually possible in the format they announced. Poor quality control

AAA says tickets will go on sale for it’s 08/19 Queretaro show on Monday. Hopefully, we’ll get a lineup or anything to talk about with them.

WON says the Sin Cara returning this Tuesday in WWE looks to be Hunico (Incognito/Mystico de Juarez – had a dark match this past week on one of the shows), and it’s possible he may be taking the role over from Mistico. That’d be crazy.

luchadb, now with video

As of yesterday, the luchadb now includes links to video links of matches, in-line to the results. If you click on the filmstrip icon, the video will open in a separate page. Matches with multiple filmstrip icons have multiple parts, and I’ve tried to put in time codes to start the video at the actual start of the match where ever possible. Videos are linked to on my channels (both YouTube and DailyMotion), Black Terry Jr.’s channel, MrAlexisCMLL, Warriorx2000, Retros80s90s, LuchaLibreEnMexico and others. The filmstrip icons should eventually show up where ever the match is listed, though the dumb way I’ve designed the site means it may take a while. I did rebuild the main events database (‘cmll/events/’), so they should be there, and they will appear if you use the Match Finder (which has also been slightly changed.)

I’ve been working on this for months; it’s a slower process than I’d like, but a lot of it is catching up thru old footage and sorting out where matches start and end. I’m hoping this will be less intensive once I’m just looking for new channels. There are 2,327 matches linked as of now, with probably another 500 in the queue to be cataloged.

How you can help:

  • Keep putting lucha libre video up on the internet!
  • Recommendations for YouTube channels to look at are always helpful.
  • If you are putting up video, consider slicing it up so the matches are the start of the segment and are easier to identify
  • Suggestions about how to better use these links!

Links

  • MedioTiempo interviews Lucha POP luchadors Yuki Star
  • Porra Fresa has it’s list of the ten best flyers in CMLL – and doesn’t include Palacio Negro!

4) Bestia 666, Hijo de LA Park, Super Crazy b Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Trauma I, Veneno
Hijo de LA Park replaced Damian 666, who was busy over on the AAA TV taping. It worked out quite well for kid skeleton, as he beat Trauma I and challenged him to a Juniors title match.

Tonight’s Arena Mexico show is the first Friday night show with no tournament match and no special stipulations match since March 4th. The Forjando un Idolo tournament is officially over (though it still continues unofficially.) Averno vs La Mascara is just about over; if Monday is Averno’s last day, this would be his final Arena Mexico appearance for the time being. Both the lightning match (Rey Cometa vs Hijo del Signo) and the fourth match tecnico trio (Valiente, Metal Blanco & Palacio Negro) look fun, but this is the least important card in quite some time.

A Record interview with Atlantis carries the headline “I want to be a tecnico“, though he’s not as definite about it in the article. Atlantis says he was surpised to be on the tecnico side tonight, teaming with his Forajando un Idolo partners against Peste Negra. He alludes to more such tecnico outings in the future and vows to be professional, but he’s not decided if he actually wants to return to the tecnico side full time. His partners are apparently trying to convince him to go back. Atlantis compliments his partners, saying Delta is very popular and Maya is very skilled on the mat and always wants to learn.

Dr. X explains he really wants to take Fuego’s mask, because he’s missed out on other masks he wanted to win. He wanted Hijo del Gladiador, but Rencor Latino won that, he wanted Solar’s mask but Guerrero dle Futuro got that, and he wanted Fabian el Gitano but Angel de Oro took that from him. This is really going to be sad for Dr. X if this turns into another cage match. Fuego‘s ready for the mask match too.

Bam Bam

CMLL (TUE) 06/14/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Record]
1) Höruz & Robin b Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Astral, Bam Bam, Shockercito b Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior
3) Dr. X, Loco Max, Nitro DQ Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Plata, Fuego
straight falls for the rudos, with Fuego yanking off Dr. X’s mask in the second. It was no accident this time, Fuego just got annoyed and pulled his mask off.
4) Dragón Rojo Jr., Héctor Garza, Olímpico b Black Warrior, Sangre Azteca, Valiente
Rudos took 1/3.
5) Rey Bucanero b La Sombra, Blue Panther, Atlantis, Máximo, Texano, Felino, Sagrado [NWA LH, cibernetico, semifinal]
First four out were Sagrado (via Felino), Felino (Blue Panther), Texano (Sombra), Maximo (Atlantis). Atlantis and Panther were having it out in the middle of the ring when Bucanero & Sombra each pulled them into cradles. Bucanero beat Sombra with the Buca Destroyer for the win. He faces Fantasma next week.

Hmm, cursed guy or long time tag partner of the guy added to the programming department? The Fantasma curse is completely over if he can pull this one off.

CMLL (TUE) 06/14/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Virgo b Leo
2) Camaleón & Trueno b Exterminador & Templario
rudo team could not work together.
3) Guerrero Maya Jr., Hombre Bala, Starman b Arkángel de la Muerte, Ráfaga, Skándalo
4) Amapola b Lluvia [CMLL WOMEN]
Lluvia took the first fall, but the champ won the last two to hand onto her belt
5) La Máscara & Toscano b Mr. Águila & Volador Jr.
Toscano replaced Rush (who the recap mentions had been behaving badly here of late.) Rudos took the first, tecnicos took the last two and three clean.

We have that as defense #22 for Amapola, Lluvia’s second try.

Other News

Ultimo Guerrero tells Terra “I think the time of the Guerreros de Atlantida is just about over.” Ultimo is not pleased with Atlantis for taking Shocker’s spot in the Forjando un Idolo, and he may have to part ways if it ends up costing Ultimo 3 points on Friday. UG already has plans for the breakup: Dragon Rojo can stay, and Escorpion takes Atlantis’ spot.

Do you want to see La Mascara vs Averno? Then you probably need to book a ticket to Mexico City right now. CMLL Gaceta says the match will not air on TV on the Saturday show, and the new policy is these sorts of matches will not air anywhere for six months – which would probably mean the December recap/highlight season. Two quick points here

1) CMLL is a promotion in Mexico City that really only cares about Mexico City, and more specifically the number of seats filled in Arena Mexico. This is a great push to get people in the city to make sure they come to your show (and make sure it’s the show they have to see in person if they see any show that weekend, hint.) The world outside the borders of Distrio Federal can take a long walk off a short pier. Any debate about CMLL taking action because of their national TV rating is pointless, because they don’t care! (You can make a debate about Televisa doing something, if you must.)

2) Even CMLL is admitting Maximo & Brazo de Plata vs Doble T was not a big deal match now! I don’t think that was supposed to happen there.

A quick note about the Sin Cara/CMLL copyright deal: people are misunderstanding what that is. Sin Cara will be able to use that name in Mexico while in WWE without a problem, and they’ll be able to sell t-shirts and masks and all sorts of usual things. The only way that can’t happen is if CMLL sues to protect their copyright, and they won’t do that because they’ll surely lose. Unless Mexican law works strangely, it doesn’t matter that CMLL got it in a couple weeks earlier if it’s clear that’s WWE came up with the idea (and it is.) This will have no affect on WWE and CMLL is hoping WWE doesn’t ever even notice their claim.

This is not about WWE. This is a pre-empetive strike on Sin Cara himself. If he leaves WWE and comes back to Mexico, he won’t be able to use the Mistico in Mexico because CMLL owns that, and now he won’t be able to use the Sin Cara name either (if this holds up). Sin Cara could also take CMLL to court over it, but it’ll be a lot tougher for an individual and personally expensive. In theory, CMLL could bring him back to their promotion to use either name, but that’s unlikely to happen without a change in ownership. Sin Cara will more likely be stuck changing to yet another name. (Probably something starting with an ‘A’.)

Lineups

CMLL (MON) 06/20/2011 Arena Puebla
1) Tigre Rojo & Tigre Rojo Jr. vs Ares & Fuerza Chicana
2) Metálico, Stigma, Trueno vs Bobby Zavala, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Plata, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Metro, Sagrado vs Histeria, Olímpico, Vangelis
5) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush vs Averno, Mephisto, Mr. Niebla

I don’t have full results for Monday’s Puebla show, but the locals vs Tuareg match ended with the Tuareg just winning and the locals giving them credit for being good wrestlers. Scratch that idea for the July anniversary show.

Looks like the week after Juicio Final shows are all going to be “see Averno or La Mascara unmasked for the first time!” everywhere.

I guess Tigre Rojo turned back tecnico when that feud with the Black Tiger’s disappeared?

CMLL (SUN) 06/19/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Javier Cruz Jr. vs Metalik
2) Hombre Bala Jr. & Super Halcon Jr. vs Malefico & Ráfaga
3) Shockercito & Último Dragoncito vs Olímpico & Pequeño Violencia
4) Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro, Stuka Jr. vs Puma King, Rey Escorpion, Tiger Kid
5) Black Warrior, La Sombra, Valiente vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Pólvora

Card is totally different than the one I posted earlier in the week. Semimain is a rematch, but we never got the results from last Sunday.

CMLL (WED) 06/22/2011 Arena Queretaro
1) 1 & 2 vs 3 & 4
2) 1, 2, 3 vs 4, 5, 6
3) Disturbio & Principe vs Alex Guajardo & Galaxy
4) Dalys la Caribeña, Dark Angel, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit
5) La Máscara & La Sombra vs Averno & Mephisto

Wednesday! Tuesday is the traditional date here. Possibly because the La Mascara & Averno show is in Guadalajara that night?

I assume that’s a different Disturbio or it’s a relevlos match or there’s some Queretaro angle going on the rest of us are not privileged to.

Universo/Rayo in Puebla, Garza/Shocker in GDL, Tzuki returns

CMLL (MON) 06/21 Arena Puebla [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Ares & Karisma b Centella de Oro & Crazy Black
2) Loco Max, Nosferatu, Skándalo b Pegasso, Rey Cometa, Sensei
3) Fuego, Metro, Valiente b Euforia, Misterioso II, Pólvora
4) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Siki Osama b Atlantis, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
5) Jushin Lyger, Negro Casas, Universo 2000 b La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Rayo de Jalisco Jr.

Universo got in a foul on Rayo for the pin. Rayo demanded a mask vs hair match for Puebla’s anniversary show and a title match. Since he has a title, that one’s a little easier to pull off.

Siki replaced a missing Toscano. Mascara finished Atlantis with an Atlantida.

CMLL (TUE) 06/22 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Silueta b Princesa Maya
2) Drago & Ebola b Angelo & Virgo
3) Gallo, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro b Ángel del Mal, Mr. Trueno, Rey Trueno
4) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Máximo b Ephesto, Terrible, Texano
5) Héctor Garza DQ Shocker

Hector not only had to deal with Shocker in this match, but also Shocker’s mom. She was seated at ringside, but chased Garza around the outside at one point. Garza still won – he tried to foul Shocker, Shocker blocked it and fouled him, and the ref saw it. Shocker challenged Garza to a hair match, but Garza just said no.

CMLL (TUE) 06/22 Arena Mexico [@cmllmagazine]
1) Disturbio & Semental b Camaleón & Robin
2) Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Marcela b Amapola, La Comandante, Mima Shimoda
3) Demus 3:16, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito b Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Tzuki
4) Delta, Toscano, Valiente b Pólvora, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
5) Máscara Dorada, Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Super Porky b Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

Tzuki actually showed up! Demus got his team the win with a foul on Bam Bam, and wants either a rematch or a title match.

Rayo’s team won, and he and Atlantis are still teasing the mask match.

Sombra talks to R de Rudo about his Best of Super Juniors experience. As expected, Sombra highlights how he beat “the two top figures in Japan” (in Tiger Mask and Jushin Lyger.)

Dos Caras Jr. debuted in a vignette at last night’s SmackDown taping as the unmasked Alberto del Rio. Since it’s a vignette, it could still be edited off the show before it airs this week, but it’s most likely his debut.

LuchaWorld has video of Satanico vs Super Astro for the UWA light heavyweight title from 1985.

CMLL (MON) 06/28 Arena Puebla
1) Asturiano, Silver, Tigre Rojo vs Espiritu Maligno, Mr. Rafaga, Siki Osama
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Leono, Trueno vs Bronco, Durango Kid, Inquisidor
3) Ángel de Oro, Rush, Stuka Jr. vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) La Sombra, Shocker, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
5) Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs Universo 2000 [WWA HEAVY]

Rayo has been champion for five years. Probably will be champion for another five years.

04/05: GDL, Coliseo, links

CMLL (SUN) 04/05 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [nohayfianza @ box y lucha, mt 4, 5]
4) Dos Caras Jr., Sagrado, Volador Jr. b Heavy Metal, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero
5) Texano Jr. b Atlantis [NWA LH]

Texano Jr. defated Atlantis for the NWA Light Heavyweight Championship in Guadalajara last night. That’d the first singles title for Texano Jr., who also currently hold the Occidente (GDL) Tag Team Titles with Terrible. Add in his two fall hair victory over Maximo in the sasme building, and Texano’s the king of Guadalajara at the moment.

Match sounds completely clean. Texano got Atlantis with a submission in the first fall, Atlantis came back and won the second fall with a plancha, the third fall featured the usual spots (tapatia! caverneria!) and Texano snuck in a small package for teh win.

In the semifinal, Dos is back to being a jerk. His partners still managed to win the match despite Dos’ non participation, Volador getting Rey with a guillotine legdrop. The rudos invited him over to their side (wait, why would you want him if he’s not wrestling? rudos need better plans) but Dos also refused to make a decision. If this was real, I would hope the promoter would refuse to pay him.

CMLL (SUN) 04/05 Arena Coliseo [Ovaciones]
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II b Caligula & Messala
2) Leono, Metalico, Tigre Blanco b Bronco III, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) La Seductora, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra b Lluvia, Marcela, Sahori
4) Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara, Mascara Dorada b Ephesto, Felino, Lizmark Jr.
5) Blue Panther, Hector Garza, Shocker DQ Averno, Mephisto, Ray Mendoza Jr.

Mendoza fouled Panther in the third fall for the DQ. Rosa Negra pinned Marcela, and off of all of that, they’ll be having a mask vs hair match next week. I’m thinking the barber can take the day off. I don’t want to be down on Rosa Negra, she’s seems good whenever I get to actually see here, but it’s kinda tough to believe someone’s going to win a big singles match when they have zero singles matches (meaningful or not) wins ever. I mean, here’s the complete list of “Rosa Negra” singles matches in the big CMLL arenas:

2007-07-08 Arena Coliseo 2) Marcela b Rosa Negra

You may be saying to yourself “how odd that they would have a non-stip women singles match in CMLL” and that is right, it would be odd – that’s a Toryumon Mexico match. These three weeks feuds, based all in trios matches, with someone dropping their hair or mask, continue to be anti-climatic and boring, whether they’re men or women involved. I hope the match is really good (if they give it time, it really should be) but I wish they’d find a better way of doing these.

Rosa Negra vs Marcela has a pretty good shot at beating Ultimo Guerrero vs Villano V, doesn’t it? If you could somehow transport both matches to a void of non-fan reaction (like last night’s WM main event?)

indy (SUN) 04/05 Arena Solidaridad [Proyeccion Luchistica]
1) Baby Fox, Sky, Turbina b Boomerang, Kokox Klan, Misionero
2) Black Demon, Mongol Chino Jr., Sexy Psicis b Axl, Burrito, Furor
3) Monje Negro II, Monje Negro III, Monje Negro Jr. b Centurion Negro, Karonte, Mongol Chino
4) Histeria, Maniaco, Psicosis II b Diluvio Negro I, Estrella Dorado Jr., Gato Volador
5) Antifaz del Norte, Hator, Super Porky b Aventurero, Diluvio Negro II, La Park

Porky replaced Blue Demon, who was said to be injuried on the ROH card (which could explain his ROH performance – or he could just be Blue Demon.) Antifaz and Park are tag team champs of some sort, but not after this match – Hator got away with a foul on Park while wearing Antifaz, then Park challenged Antifaz to find a partner and he’d find a partner and they’d have a match.

Speaking of ROH, Night 2 results were:
- Kevin Steen, Jay Briscoe, Magno, Generico b Chris Hero, Eddie Edwards, Incognito, Dave Richards
- Brent Albright b Claudio Castagnoli & Blue Demon Jr.
- Roderick Strong b Alex Koslov

Reports live say Alex impressed, Magno & Incognito were okay, and Blue Demon was Blue Demon.

WagnerMania looks at the regulations of remasking and how well it’s enforced (spoiler: badly.) This gets me thinking about something I wanted to talk about yesterday:

El Fantasma publicly suspending Konnan and asking other commissioners to do it in their areas it very strange in retrospect. It’s not a surprise other commissions have chosen to ignore it; if we figured that might happen, Fantasma and company surely did as well. I don’t think the general public knew it was going to happen, though. I think the average fan sees the lucha libre commissions as more ineffectual, not using their power when they could, rather than actually powerless. The commissions can be a nuisance at most, and only if they really press, and acting like they can do more than that and being unable to deliver only destroys their illusion of having power. So why would they try this? Self delusion about their power and reach? Pressure from fellow wrestlers to do something, even just symbolic?

Al Filo del Ring has an interview with Dr. Wagner Jr., who’s so invested in working independents and AAA that he’s still complaining about not working in CMLL. They also talk to Angelico, who’s a South American who moved to Spain and wrestled in NWE before being brought to Mexico.

WagnerMania also has vied of Santo, Wagner, Park vs Damian 666, Mr. Aguila and Perro Aguayo Jr from Arena Neza.

SuperLucha notes the 66th Anniversary of the opening of Arena Coliseo.

The Gladiatores looks around Gimnasio Latinoamericano, where both Skayde and Gran Apache teach their classes (and was been show on AAA TV during the Apache bits.)

Hablando de Catch looks at Veneno’s real job of making masks, boots, and gear. Did you know there’s a Veneno blog? I don’t know how I missed out on that.

Box Y Lucha has the trios champions retaining the titles.

03/31: IWRG, GDL, Konnan, suspensions (two different articles)

IWRG (SUN) 03/29 Arena Naucalpan [Dr. Spectro]
1) Garra de Aguila b Keshin Black
2) Latin Brother & Miss Gaviota b Arafath & Judas el Traidor
3) Gemelo Fantastico II, Trauma II, Turbo b Black Thunder, Hijo del Signo, Oficial Fierro
4) Trauma I b Bushi and Toxico AAA and Freelance and Multifacetico and Xibalva and Andy Barrow and Cerebro Negro and Capitan Muerte and Chico Che and Universo 2000 and Bobby Lee Jr. and Pierroth II and Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG) and Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. and Arlequin and Zatura and Dr. Cerebro and Gemelo Fantastico I and Oficial 911

This was another “eliminated wrestler is a lumberjack with a strap” match.

CMLL (SUN) 03/29 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [mt]
5) Averno, Mephisto, Texano Jr. b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Ultimo Guerrero

Texano not only beat Atlantis clean in the third fall, but he also remembered Atlantis has a belt. Texano made the challenge, and it seems like it they’re setting it up here for next week (which would be two days after the fan appreciation show) or the week after.

indy (SUN) 03/29 Arena Pavillon del Norte [Vanguardia]
1) Zorro Plateado & Zorro Plateado Jr. b Indio Kikapoo & Zorro Galactico
2) Overnator, Piloto 2000, Popeye DQ Gran Markus, Gran Markus Jr., Green Femon
3) Rayo de Jalisco Jr. b Mascara Ano 2000 [WWA HEAVY]

Link has highlights of the match.

On luchalibreaaa.com, Konnan responds to Cibernetico’s comments about him: “I believe the drugs, steroids, and growth hormone have harmed the little intelligence he has left“. Well then. Konnan basically tells Cibernetico to get over it.

The promoter in Cancun who got caught putting someone else under the Abismo Negro mask is being suspended from promoting for two years, with fines (possible for AAA as well) yet to be determined. Even after everyone realized it could not have been Abismo Negro in that match because he would’ve been dead by then (and Black Abyss was on the opposite side, so it was surely some local), the promoter was still trying to claim it was the real Abismo Negro in the match. It’s a tough punishment, but he kinda dug his own hole and everyone involved shoudl’ve probably been much more apologetic about it from the start.

Previews of tonight’s show: both ESTO and Ovaciones focus on the Fire/Shockercito match. Fire would seem to be the underdog, but Shockercito’s name was spotted on a Perros del Mal lineup again.

This show, by the way, the one with the rushed hair/hair mask is NOT a Fan Appreciation show. That show is not until…next week. Why didn’t they just wait? There’s also a Sunday Fan Appreciation show on 04/12. I could not begin to guess what match they’re headlining either show with.

SuperLuchas has started selling official wrestlers gear the last few months, mostly indy guys. Today, they’re adding Atlantis. CMLL, of course, only has $150 professional Ultimo Guerrero and Mistico masks you can buy.

Not to make comparisons, but TO MAKE AN EASY COMPARISON: AAA (or the Dos de Tres staff, whatever difference that makes) posted the Winners/Super Calo mask match on YouTube.. That’s how you’re supposed to use the internet. Obviously, the next Dos de Tres is all about Abismo.

DTU interviews Shiima Xion about working their show.

Box Y Lucha #2915 has Abismo Negro’s death, and interviews with Super Porky and Pirata Morgan leaving AAA (posted by DJ Spectro). Super Porky says he’s working with ex-WWE-er Eugene on 04/18, which sounds like a MOTYC.

Guerreros del Ring #184 has Abismo Negro.

Luchas 2000 #464 has Abismo Negro, Villano V, and the guys leaving AAA.

In LA last Sunday, there was a lucha show to fight domestic violence. The idea is to spread the message that fighting if for lucha libre, but women should use the laws of the US to protect themselves.

LuchaWorld has Alfredo and KrisZ on the news.

01/18: GDL (new Trios champs), IWRG, Coliseo

CMLL (SUN) 01/18 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT: main (w/picture of new champs), semifinal]
4) Angel de Oro & Volador Jr. b Rey Bucanero & Satánico
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo de Fantasma, La Máscara b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero Negro Casas, Último Guerrero [CMLL TRIOS]

Hector Garza, Hijo de Fantamsa and La Mascara are the 20th CMLL Champions, winning back the belts they lost in August. Hector is now a five time champ, but this is the first time he’s won it back with the same team. Rudos go from controlling 6 of 8 of the major CMLL championships to half and half in the course of two days. Didn’t see this one coming at all. Negro teaming with UG and Atlantis was a forced situation and didn’t really help anything, just got Negro more into the mix when it came to the TNA stuff. I don’t mind this change, especially if we’re eventually heading to a Hijos del Averno or Poder Mexica contesting these belts.

Champs took the first fall with double Atlantidas. Tecnicos won the second fall, and then the match clean in the third fall, La Mascara getting Atlantis with la campana. Yea, read that again, it’s hard to believe. Champions did not argue, but just walked out after the loss.

Volador and Angel de Oro got a bit of an upset win themselves in the semifinal. After the match, Volador challenged Satanico to a mask vs hair match. This offended Bucanero – how dare Volador challenge his old mentor! – and Rey is giving Volador a shot at the CMLL Light Heavyweight title instead. I would not bet against any challenger right now.

IWRG (THU) 01/15 Arena Naucalpan [Al Filo del Ring]
1) Halcon 2000 b Epidemia
2) Eragon & Galactik b Anticristo Jr. & Avisman
3) Fenix, Freelance, Goleador b Demony, Fantasma de la Ópera, Nemesis IWRG
4) Trauma I, Trauma II, Zatura b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
5) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Barba Roja, Capitán Muerte, Pirata Morgan Jr. [EdM TRIOS]

Champs took the second and third to retain. Zatura bled a lot, but his team got the win and they’ll get a title shot next week.

CMLL (SUN) 01/18 Arena Coliseo [Universal]
5) Místico DQ Black Warrior

Warrior fouled Mistico and then pulled his mask. Gotta cover all the bases.

El Siglo de Torreon talks to Ultimo Guerrero about the beginnings of his career. His father brought him to lucha libre shows from the time he was very little – he says he’s been told he first started talking and walking when at them – and Mano Negra inspired him to become a wrestler. He wrestled locally for five years as Flanagan before going to Mexico City on his own dime and not much more than that. He was a complete unknown and slept on the floor of the Fuerza/Panther Gym at nights and worked for Fuerza Guerrera during the days.

The same newspaper also talks to the Torreon box y lucha comission, who wants to create offical belts. There’d be heavyweight (98 kg and up), light heavy (80-97), middle (71-79), welter (65-69), light (60-64) and feather (59 and down), as well as tag team and trios. Nothing good can come of this! The commission’s ideas is that they’re hold tournaments involving qualtity (and licensed!) wrestlers and hold a hard line about how the titles are defended so the titles retain more credibility than the random belts that float thru here. The ideas is the titles would start here in May. The article also notes less than 10 of the estimated 160 local wrestlers have bothered to renew their licenses.

Rotavio de Queretaro has an interview with Arkangel de la Muerte, who explains the origin of his name. His career as Mr. Cid was not going anywhere and he was thinking off retiring, but suffered an accident that put him in a coma for a week. While in the coma, he saw an angel, and decided that was a gimmick work trying. Arkangel feels he’s getting close to the end of the career – the young people are pushing him – but he’s still like to go back to Japan again, as well as go up to Canada to teach (which was planned at one point apparently. The Dragon Gym affiliate that’s no longer in existence?)

WagnerMania posted video of the tag team title match from Friday and the latest WagnerMania show.

LuchaWorld has Robert looking back at AAA 07/1/07 and GDR 8/4 and FSE 8/5/7. There’s also KrisZ’s news update.

Lineup

IWRG (THU) 01/22 Arena Naucalpan
1) Halcon 2000 vs Comando Gama
2) Eragon & Miss Gaviota vs Anticristo Jr. & Avisman
3) Chico Che & Goleador vs Demony & Xibalva
4) Freelance, Pendulo, Zatura vs Tetsuya, Toxico AAA, Veneno
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro vs Trauma I, Trauma II, Zatura [IWRG IC TRIOS]

I refuse to predict title matches. No good can come of it!

CMLL (SUN) 01/25 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Fabián el Gitano, Hijo del Faraon, Leono vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Pólvora, Skandalo
3) Máscara Púrpura, Máximo, Mictlán vs Felino, Vangelis, Virus
4) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Toscano vs Black Warrior, Lizmark Jr., Negro Casas
5) Dos Caras Jr., Mark Corleone, Shocker vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

This is…not particularly interesting.

CMLL (SUN) 01/25 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Boomerang & Virgo vs Angel del Mal & Milenio
2) Casanova (GDL) & Leon Blanco vs Ephesto & Toxico (GDL)
3) Dark Angel, Marcela, Sahori vs Amapola, Medussa, Princesa Blanca
4) Mascara Dorada, Místico, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Mephisto, Rey Bucanero

Obviously going to be changed to a Bucanero/Volador main event. A women’s trios is rare here, especially with no local woman involved. Wonder if they’re getting a title match next week – that’s be three in three weeks, but also give them something noteworthy for the monthly free show (assuming it’s on 02/01.)

IWRG (SUN) 01/25 Arena Naucalpan
1) Eragon & Miss Gaviota vs Avisman & Nemesis IWRG
2) Chico Che, Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II vs Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
3) Freelance, Multifacético, Zumbido vs Demony, Tetsuya, Veneno

Actual main event TBA.
