10/10 AAA TV Lineup (Tlahuelilpan)

AAA TV (THU) 10/10/2013 Plaza de Toros Jorge Guiterrez, Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo
1) Dinastía, Faby Apache, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Mamba, Mini Charly Manson, Taya Valkyrie
2) Fénix & Octagón vs Eterno & Pentagón Jr.
3) ?, Angélico, Jack Evans vs Daga, Psicosis, Steve Pain
4) Cibernético, El Mesías, Electroshock, La Parka vs Cuervo, Escoria, Espíritu, Ozz
5) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Silver King, Texano Jr.

Air Date: 10/19? 10/26? This is hard to figure right now; Toluca & DF look like it should’ve been a two taping show, but so did Naucalpan and they cut it down to one taping.

This seems to be an annual deal; they were here almost to the day last year. Psycho Circus and Consejo did not have a match on that show, but did fight after the opener.

Yea, there’s another taping before Heroes Inmortales. They mentioned it a few weeks ago. Unless everything else is cut to one week, this one airs after Heroes Inmortales happens. The Puebla fans won’t get the excitement and motivation of yet another Consejo vs Psycho Circus match to motivate them to buy tickets. (Maybe they could’ve not done eight million of these and had Psycho Clown beat a non-Texano guy in a singles match to show he could actually win a singles match? Guess not.)

I am not sure why there’s a mystery guy in the tercera match, when it’s probably the guy who debuted this past weekend. Must be for the same reason the poster spells Monster “Monsther.”

Octagon is back to foul up reasonably good matches. Tercera should be good. La Secta may get a win in the semimain but I’m not so sure about that. Opener almost certainly will not air unless there’s an issue with another match or the show goes short and UTDN can squeeze it in.

Not much for Heroes inmortales, but everyone’s pretty much given up on that. The concerning bit now isn’t that show, but that all this TV AAA doing before Heroes Inmortales means there’s not that much TV after Heroes Inmortales, which doesn’t quite leave AAA with a lot of time to do a Guerra de Titanes build up. My best guess is Heroes Inmortales TV finishes up airing 11/02 which gives AAA 4 to 6 weeks to build up their next show. They can do it, but they won’t have time to waste. Heroes Inmoratles shouldn’t just hint what AAA are doing in December, they’d be best off spelling out the top couple matches right then and there.

Dragon Celestial unmasks Ciclon Black, Mascara/Mephisto, Atlantis & Sombra advance, Estrellita holds on, lineups

IWRG FILL (TUE) 09/24/2013 Arena Naucalpan [IWRG]
1) Mercenario De La Muerte, Muerte Infernal, Payaso Extremo b Chicanito, Dragon Blanco, Orquidea Azul
Chicanito & Orquidea Azul were said to be debuting.
2) Atomic Star & El Ídolo (Naucalpan) b Black Niko & Ultimo Caballero
3) Aviador, Electroboy, Vortice DQ Haziel, Jhon Terry, Skrull Metal
IWRG (Aviador) vs Gym Rivera (Jhon Terry). Vortice replaced Alas de Oro. Jhon fouled Aviador for the DQ.
4) Fulgore II, Látigo, Zurdog b Andy Boy, Karate Kid, Orion
IWRG (Fulgor II) vs Gym Rivera (Karate Kid)
5) Emperador Azteca, Fulgor I, Kiuby, Matrix Jr., Picudo Jr., Power Bull, Ranchero, Seiya b Argus, Aztlan, Belial, Black Thunder, Cirujano Jr., Hanaoka, Senky, Turbo [Copa High Power]
Gym IWRG vs Gym Skayde. Kiwby replaced Sky Angel. Fulgor beat Turbo for the IWRG win.
6) Dragón Celestial b Ciclón Black [mask]
Naucalpan vs Neza. Ciclon Black toped Dragon Celestial to start the match, but fell to a “power boom”. Ciclon’s second Tony Rivera helped him win the second fall. Tony kept interfering in the third fall, but Black Terry brawled with him to the back, and Dragon beat Ciclon to take his mask. Ciclon Black is Fabián Franco Ojeda, 5 years a professional.

Not a lot about the match itself. I feel like Fulgor I beating Turbo is like a personal victory over Rob.

CMLL (MON) 09/23/2013 Arena Puebla [Cinco Radio, Comunicate Digital, El Popular]
1) Blue Center & Fuerza Chicana b Meyer & Paris
Straight falls win.
2) Eléctrico, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito b Blue Center, Pequeño Warrior, Saurón
Blue Center replaced Pequeno Nitro. Shockericto beat Pequeno Warrior. Sauron’s first match here since June.
3) Misterioso Jr., Namajague, Shigeo Okumura b Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Titán
Namajague submitted Titan.
4) Blue Panther, Diamante Azul, Super Porky b Pierroth, Terrible, Vangellys
Tecnicos took 1/3. Porky match.
5) La Máscara, Marco Corleone, Rush b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
Tecnicos took 1/3. Mascara submitted Mephisto and challenged for a rematch for the Mexican Light Heavyweight title. Mephisto answered back with a mask versus mask match.

CMLL (TUE) 09/24/2013 Arena Mexico [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), CMLL]
1) Pegasso & Starman b Disturbio & Hijo del Signo
2) Hijo del Fantasma, Rey Cometa, Tritón b Ishii, Namajague, Shigeo Okumura
Tecnicos took 2/3. Fantasma beat Namajague with a huracarrana.
3) La Sombra & Misterioso Jr. b Delta, Diamante Azul, Gran Guerrero, Mistico, Psicosis, Vangellys [CMLL TAG, seeding battle royal]
4) Gran Guerrero & Último Guerrero b Delta & Guerrero Maya Jr. [CMLL TAG, eightfinal]
5) Diamante Azul & Marco Corleone b Terrible & Vangellys [CMLL TAG, eightfinal]
6) Psicosis & Volador Jr. b Mistico & Valiente [CMLL TAG, eightfinal]
7) Atlantis & La Sombra b Ephesto & Misterioso Jr. [CMLL TAG, eightfinal]
8) Gran Guerrero & Último Guerrero b Diamante Azul & Marco Corleone [CMLL TAG, quarterfinal]
9) Atlantis & La Sombra b Psicosis & Volador Jr. [CMLL TAG, quarterfinal]
10) Atlantis & La Sombra b Gran Guerrero & Último Guerrero [CMLL TAG, semifinal]
11) Euforia, Mephisto, Mr. Niebla b Ángel de Oro, Shocker, Thunder
Shocker had Mephisto just about beat, but Euforia powerbombed Thunder and beat him first.

The previous tag team champions were a combination of an old masked legend and the best guy in the promotion, and that’s pretty much what Atlantis & Sombra are as well. (Plus Sombra and Tonga have somewhat unresolved issues.) I’m pretty sure this tournament was listed as a one night deal to determine #1 contenders, but it’s been turned into a 16 team tournament. The winners of this block are probably still getting the title shot.

I think I now hate tournaments more for having to cut them all into individual matches for video sharing purposes than the matches not being any good. But it’s close.

CMLL (TUE) 09/24/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Camaleón & Sensei b Demonio Maya & Sádico
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Black Metal, Gallo, Leo b Arkángel de la Muerte, Canelo Casas, Hooligan
Rudos took 2/3, the last when Arkangel snuck in a foul on Gallo and Hooligan picked up the win. Hooligan wins!
3) Estrellita b Amapola [MEX WOMEN]
Dropped down to the third. Estrellita’s third defense.
4) Blue Panther, Super Porky, Titán b Pierroth, Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
Tencicos took 2/3, Panther beating Pierroth and Titan defeated Polvora.
5) Averno, Dragón Rojo Jr., Negro Casas DQ La Máscara, Máximo, Rush
Tecnicos took 2/3, the last when Negro fouled Rush and didn’t get away with it.

DTU TV launched this week. It’s not in the video download bit because it’s much nicer on the YouTube channel. Matches from the first show include Flamita vs Rich Swann.

De Lucha Libre has interviews with various trainees in Konkreto Gym. Click the links on the side for more, like a luchadora who’s the cousin of India Sioux. There’s a lot of good info on that site.

Rey Misterio Jr. says he plans on wrestling for three or four more years.

AAA continues it’s interview with Drago, Argenis and Super Fly. (Part 3 here.)

Aerostar’s Aero Boom.

DTU will hold another three day seminar in November.

Rey Cometa and Kaoma Jr. meet in a super libre match next Sunday.

Laredo Kid will main event a show this Sunday to benefit the hurricane/tropical storm victims.

The Gladiatores has interviews with Konnan and Drago. The Konnan one is a bit hard to hear due to the show noise.

Lucha Libre in Japan

09/25 NJPW: Prince Devitt, Ken Anderson, Tama Tonga, Rey Bucanero, Bad Luck Fale [X] b Hiroshi Tanahashi, Togi Makabre, Jushin Liger, Captain New Japan [O] & Mascara Dorada
This is an irrelevant match, but that’s kind of the point – Mascara Dorada flew over to Japan to essentially work two minutes of 8/10 man tags for a week. Maybe he does a dive too. He’s not even getting pinned. This could be easier explained as “(well) paid vacation.”

Photos from Fenix’s title challenge.

CMLL (MON) 09/30/2013 Arena Puebla
1) Águila Egipcia & Black Tiger vs Centauro de Fuego & Siki Ozama Jr.
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Luna Mágica vs Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Tiffany
3) Sagrado, Stigma, Stuka Jr. vs Felino, Puma, Tiger
4) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Shocker vs Black Terry, Negro Navarro, Solar I
5) Ángel de Oro, La Máscara, La Sombra vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Último Guerrero

The Blue Panther anniversary maestros match makes it way here, though with slightly different teams. Main event continues the Mephisto/Mascara feud.

RCH (THU) 10/03/2013 Arena Naucalpan
1) Látigo & Mr. Leo vs Fulgor I & Fulgore II and Atomic Star & Electro Boy
2) Decnnis & Relámpago (Coahuila) vs Centvrión & Golden Magic and Arez & Impulso
3) Bugambilia, Lady Apache, Voladorcito vs Apolo Estrada Jr., Bracito de Oro, Rossy Moreno
4) Eterno, Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., Zumbido vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Trauma I, Trauma II
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. vs LA Park, Canek [50000]
winner gets 50000MX ($3850 USD)

The Wagner/Park/Canek crew instead of using AAA wrestlers this time. Three way tags are the order of the day.

CMLL (TUE) 10/01/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Molotov & Sensei vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Diamante, Pegasso, Starman vs Cancerbero, Nosferatu, Raziel
3) Shocker & Thunder vs Felino & Mr. Niebla and La Máscara & Rush and Averno & Mephisto and Máscara Dorada & Titán and Kráneo & Morphosis and Máximo & Super Porky and Dragón Rojo Jr. & Rey Escorpión [CMLL TAG, semifinal]
4) Atlantis, Diamante Azul, La Sombra vs Euforia, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.

Averno & Mephisto seem the favorite based on being rudos who match up with Atlantis & Sombra. Rojo & Escorpion might stand a chance. Hope Dorada & Titan get a run to the semifinal, but the odds are not in their favor.

CMLL (TUE) 10/01/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Black Metal & Esfinge vs Demonio Maya & Sádico
2) Astral & Eléctrico vs Pequeño Olímpico & Pequeño Violencia
3) Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr. vs Namajague, Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
4) Misterioso Jr., Negro Casas, Psicosis vs Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma
5) Marco Corleone, Mistico, Valiente vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys

Main event is TRT vs 2/3rds of the Estetas. Tercera should be fun.

top six stories of the last two weeks

(It’s harder to do this when I stop posting for a while.)

  1. CMLL’s 80th Anniversary Show was a mixed success. Reports were the tickets were sold out, but there were a handful of empty seats in the upper most reaches (and some sections that had been marked not to be sold actually including people; it’s confusing.) It definitely was the biggest gate in the history of the promotion and a one night business success. Almost all the matches were at least very good and some were great. The noticeable exception, a match that was only okay due to the short length, is also how the show will ultimately remembered. Volador & La Sombra upset Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero to prevent the legends from having their mask match, which greatly upset the paying public. The remaining hour of the show was filled with FRAUDE chants (and an AAA chant, in the sense that this was like something ‘bad’ AAA would pull), with many in the crowd rejecting the show until eventually getting behind Volador in the mask match. It didn’t help him, as La Sombra took his mask in the culmination of a 3.5 year rivalry.
  2. Other action on the show included a great Blue Panther versus Averno submission matches (where the promised rules were actually enforced, much to Averno’s surprise) and a very strong Revolucinarios versus Estetas match during the peak of the crowd rejection. Negro Casas and Rush continued to assault each other in the undercard in a match which technically included four other people, not that anyone was paying much attention to them. Also: Super Porky did a tope!
  3. Volador Jr. was immediately the subject of (usual) rumors about his mask loss leading to him to jumping elsewhere, but quickly proceeded to defeat Mistico (in a singles match) and Sombra (in a tag match, sending Sombra out in ambulance) and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. The volume of rumors about people jumping from group to group should increase greatly leading up to the WWE’s October trip to Mexico.
  4. The deaths of a couple dozen and the homelessness of hundreds have the much more important effect of canceling Hijo del Santo’s three way mask match with Dr. Wagner Jr. & LA Park, TxT announced about 18 hours before the show was originally hyped as happening. In reality, the show had been off for weeks if not months and never really had a chance of happening and most people forgot it was supposed to happen until a very unfortunate press release.
  5. Rey Bucanero & Tama Tonga picked up the CMLL Tag Team championship belts in NJPW from Jushin Lyger and Hiroshi Tanahashi (who clearly only won them as a pretext for Tanahashi to be in the CMLL Universal tournament.) CMLL’s holding a #1 contenders tag team tournament, and Tonga is expected to Mexico soon for another fall tour.
  6. AAA held a TV taping which was more notable for it’s hurricane relief drive than most of the action. Dinastia retained his minis title over Mini Abismo Negro, a new foreign luchador Australian Suicide debuted, and Drago and Psicosis are back to feuding. There wasn’t a strong build in results for Heroes Inmortales, but none of the pretaped or behind the scenes vignettes were mentioned and maybe they’ll help.
  • Ultimo Gladiador lost his hair in a three way match with Joe Lider & Daga. It was surprisingly Gladiador’s first hair loss, though not a surprise he lost this match given the other participants. The hair match was the main event of a good AAA/RCH show in Arena Naucalpan.
  • LA Park won the new IWL Heavyweight Championship in a match including Dr. Wagner, Justin Credible and Canek, plus the usual shennagins that happen in an LA Park match. Super Crazy also won the IWL IC title and Secta Negra the WWA Trios titles on IWL’s 3rd Anniversary show.
  • This year’s Lucha Libre Expo, first postponed until November, has been canceled. They hope to bring it back in 2014 (but don’t hold your breath.)
  • Fenix came up short challenging Taiji Ishimori for the GHC Junior Heavyweight Title.
  • CMLL celebrated a patriotic weekend by having Marco Corleone beat Mr. Niebla. It would’ve been an odd decision in any other week.
  • The IWRG students and maestro Black Terry feuded a lot with Tony Rivera and his students (including a really fun trios match we saw live.)
  • CMLL also unveiled an 80th Anniversary mural in Arena Mexico, depicting the history of the promotion and every single mask lost in a mask match in the first 80 years of the promotion (thru Namajague.) There is also an outdoor photo exhibit as part of a lot promotion for the show.
  • The Trueno brothers won a tournament for the vacant Occidente Tag Team Championships in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara.
  • People who kept titles: Estrellita (twice!), Terrible
  • We deeply researched the case of the missing CMLL minis…who started popping back up right before we finished our research. This is why I shouldn’t try.
  • Rob and I podcasted a bit. Oh, right, I went to Mexico! Everyone was nice and it was a good time and then I came home and got very sick (for probably unrelated reasons.)

CMLL tag team tournament, Dragon Celestial vs Ciclon Black

CMLL holds a #1 contender’s tag team tournament tonight in Arena Mexico. Winners face Rey Bucanero & Tama Tonga at a time to be announced. Teams involved:

  • Mistico & Valiente
  • Atlantis & Sombra
  • Marco Corleone & Diamante Azul
  • Delta & Guerrero Maya Jr.
  • Volador Jr. & Psicosis
  • Ephesto & Misterioso
  • Terrible & Vangellys
  • Ultimo Guerrero & Gran Guerrero

Only Delta & Guerrero Maya are a regular tag team, though that’s because CMLL doesn’t really do regular tag teams. Some of the others are members of bigger groups who still team up plenty. Atlantis & Sombra are the on paper favorites but I’m still hoping for Delta/Maya.

IWRG has it’s 30th FILL show, this one focused on rivalries with the Tony Rivera and Skayde Gyms. The main event of these are usually a school versus school cibernetico, and there is one with FILL vs Skayde’s students (Turbo & Black Thunder can never graduate.) However, the actual main event is Dragon Celestial versus Ciclon Black based on the previous trainee shows and their mask ripping on normal IWRG shows. We heard very good things about Dragon Celestial in Mexico. He’s impressed enough to be put in this position, and this is a big chance for him to break out.

Over in Guadalajara, Estrellita has a title defense against Amapola and will likely keep the national title.

Iron Love & Chucho el Roto kept the AULL tag team titles over Costa Rica’s Escualo & Ares.

The 10/05 Arena Coliseo Monterrey show will benefit/honor Kato Kung Lee. Which means two of those in a row, since this upcoming Sunday’s show is for Gemelo Muerte II.

Villano IV says he’s looking for a venue/date to do a Villanos vs Piratas triple apuesta match but nothing is set. He also suggests his brother Villano V is going to do a retirement tour of smaller arenas for (just) a year until July 2nd, 2014. None of the Villanos are on the show they’re promoting this Sunday; they’re not in great physical shape at this point.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and PosterMania.

Exodo lost his mask in Tijuana.

AAA talks about their hurricane relief drive. The Psycho Circus also participated in Taquera Chabelo’s effort.

CMLL promo for Friday’s show.

The city of Morelos wants to create it’s own lucha, box and MMA commission.

Cronicas y Leyendas looks back at Mil Mascaras accusing Konnan of having an inflated muscle and ego (lol), changing names, and Vampiro beating Pirata Morgan.

CMLL (SUN) 09/29/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Índigo & Meteoro vs El Tapatío & Relampago
2) El Divino & Javier Cruz Jr. vs Acertijo & Jocker
3) Halcón de Plata, León Blanco, Virgo vs Espectrum, Exterminador, Magnum
4) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno vs Sky Kid & Smaker [OCCIDENTE TAG]
Truenos are champions. First defense, rematch of tournament final.
5) Stuka Jr., Súper Popular, Valiente vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja

Guessing Truenos keep their newly won titles for now.

09/14-15 lucha videos

The 09/21 weekend will be in a separate post later today.

Notes from this week
- I was asked not to post Noches de Coliseo’s WWL matches and I’m honoring that request. I was told WWL would be putting out a DVD. We should all keep our eyes out for that. For the record, they aired matches from the JULY WWL show, and repeated (with a couple extra) next week.

- I absolutely recorded the 09/15 Puebla show, but somehow between converting it and attempting to record other TVC Deportes programming, I managed to record right over it. Rush/Niebla and the tease of a completely awesome Zavala/Puma/Tiger trio were lost.

- We did not get this week’s Fox Sports show, but LuchaLibreDeMexico did.

- The Anniversary matches are from the DVD we bought are a bit shaky due to frame rate issues. My theory is they’re doing it by screen capture, which isn’t quite as reliable as what I normally do. (Not that I could manage to do it.) Matches also aired on a special 2 hour Fox Sports show the following week, where they were a bit smoother but possibly more edited (video and sound.)

- IWRG on LAS was a rerun. IWRG on AYM skipped the fun Imposible/Lupus/Rayan vs Astro Rey/Centviron/Magic match. It was definitely taped. The dark match opener, or at least the last five minutes of shaky camera phone recording, is over on my YouTube channel.

Volador vs Sombra in Naucalpan, LA Park wants Sombra next, Veneno/Heavy Metal

CMLL FUROR (SUN) 09/22/2013 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), Estrellas del Ring]
1) Flyer b Robin, Akuma
Bonus match
2) Eléctrico & Último Dragoncito b Mercurio & Pequeño Olímpico
3) Estrellita & Goya Kong b Amapola & Tiffany
4) Canis Lupus, Puma (CMLL), Tiger b Centvrión, Guerrero Maya Jr., Magnus
Rudos took 1/3. Magnus replaced Dinamic Black. Comando Negro was originally announced, but Canis Lupus replaced him.
5) Blue Panther, Brazo de Oro, Negro Casas b Black Terry, Negro Navarro, Shu el Guerrero
Brazo de Oro replaced Brazo de Plata. Team CMLL took 2/3. Negro Casas beat Negro Navarro with a casita to win.
6) La Sombra & Volador Jr. NC Atlantis & Último Guerrero [Relevos Increíbles]
match essentially abandoned after two falls of teams not getting along
7) Último Guerrero & Volador Jr. b Atlantis & La Sombra
one fall, Volador beating Sombra and UG doing the same to Atlantis. Volador demanded a chance to take Sombra’s mask, Sombra said no since he already won and walked off.

Attendance seems slightly down from the similar (and holiday) RCH show last week. This was a sponsored show and probably not a long term return of CMLL to the building.

AAA will have La Parka on their interview show tonight.

LA Park says his next objective is La Sombra, to avenge his nephew’s loss. This will happen right after the triple mask match.

Apparently there was a press conference for Heavy Metal’s upcoming Rock and Wrestling show, because there’s one article where Veneno is unhappy Heavy Metal didn’t book him on his show and promises to show up and challenge Metal anyway, and then another where Heavy Metal talks about being hit by a guitar by Veneno at the press conference. Veneno got himself added to the main event, so that was a strong plan.

Interivew with Espartaco, who says he’s a 31 year veteran who’s used that name for 9 years. Hmmm.

Lucky Boy and Rey Celestial won an incredible partners tournament.

IWL will air at 5:30 pm today. Tercera Caida is on Wednesday, but earlier than usual.

Puebla commission tries to create a one (fake) Hijo de Gran Markus limit.

Lucha Libre in Japan

09/23 Stardom: Alpha Female b Dark Angel [5STAR GP]
That’s the end of her tournament (though there’s no mention of Dark Angel leaving Japan yet.)

The CMLL luchadoras over in REINA will be appearing on the 10/14 Wrestling New Classic show.

CMLL (SUN) 09/29/2013 Arena Coliseo
1) Aéreo & Stukita vs Mercurio & Pequeño Universo 2000
2) Pegasso, Soberano Jr., Stigma vs Camorra, Inquisidor, Nosferatu
3) Diamante, Fuego, Sagrado vs Ishii, Namajague, Shigeo Okumura
4) Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Virus [lightning]
5) Blue Panther, Shocker, Thunder vs Tiger, Último Guerrero, Vangellys
6) Atlantis, La Máscara, Mistico vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión

First Coliseo show in a month.

Stukita’s back! (And so are Aereo and Universo.) I dunno what’s going on, though I’m leaning towards CMLL not doing as many Pequeno Estrellas matches and some guys just not being available. Stukita seems only cleared to work openers (and tournaments) at this point, so maybe it’s also matter of finding three other guys who would work openers with him.

Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Virus should be awesome. Ishii seems to have the same amount of plans as Bushi did for his stint (none), but any time Namajague & Okumura team up on Sundays may mean the start of a certain title program.

09/22 AAA TV Results (DF)

AAA TV (SUN) 09/22/2013 Domo del Deportivo Plan Sexenal, Distrito Federal [Lucha Libre AAA]
0) Carta Brava Jr. & El Apache b Lucky Boy & Niño de Ébano
1) Dinastía b Mini Abismo Negro [AAA MINI]
Dinastia’s 3rd defense. Drago and Psicosis were seconds (as in the title change with Mini Psicosis) and got involved again. Dinastia beat Mini Abismo with a Spanish Fly, then Psicosis beat up Drago post match.
2) Drago, Faby Apache, Pimpinela Escarlata b Argos, Mamba, Mary Apache
Psicosis again attacked Drago after the match.
3) Angélico, Australian Suicide, Jack Evans b Eterno, Pentagón Jr., Steve Pain
Australian did a twisting shooting star press onto Pentagon for the win.
4) Escoria, Espíritu, Ozz b Daga, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Psicosis
Ozz Driver on Psicosis for the win (with Drago being somewhat involved.) Scoria hurt his arm.
5) El Mesías, La Parka, Psycho Clown b Chessman, Parka Negra, Texano Jr.
Psycho Clown beat Texano Jr. again.

Air Date: I believe 10/12 and 10/19, since this bonus opener allows this to be a two show taping. That means it’s probably the last show the people going to the 10/26 Heroes Inmortales will see (depends how early they leave for the show.) At least two more hours of TV will still air before that next major card.

AAA is taping way ahead of airing now; maybe so they can use some of those now freed up weekends for El Rey tapings? It also means most of the missing matches for Heroes Inmortales have/will be build up in skits not mentioned in live event recaps (or will not be built up at all.) The Drago/Psicosis stuff seems like it’s setting up a Faby/Drago versus Psicosis/Taya since the mixed tag team titles keep getting brought up, but Drago (with Aerostar) advanced in the secret tag team tournament so I dunno which is actually happening.

Australian Suicide is a brutal name. “Australia Suicida” is marginally better but it’s still a nickname and not a name. I’m pretty sure it’s the guy who was doing interviews about going to AAA. He’s probably the mystery foreigner on the other upcoming shows and is said to be really good so maybe I’ll get over the name.  The minis match and the opener should also be good.

The next taping is 10/02 in SLP.

Maya vs Virus, Truenos champions, Lucha Libre Expo canceled

CMLL (SUN) 09/22/2013 Arena Mexico [@therealfredo, CMLL]

Rudos took 1/3.
2) Hombre Bala Jr., Súper Halcón Jr., Tritón b Artillero, Disturbio, Súper Comando

3) Namajague b Rey Cometa [lightning]
Namajague won via powerbomb.
4) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Hijo del Fantasma b Tiger, Vangellys, Virus
Rudos took 1/3, the last when Virus snuck Maya’s mask off and cradled him. Maya challenged Virus to a singles match.
5) Dragón Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Mephisto b Ángel de Oro, La Máscara, Máximo
Rudos took 2/3 for the clean win.
6) Marco Corleone, Shocker, Thunder b Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero
Tecnicos took 1/3.

Looks like Maya & Virus is going to continue on.

CMLL (SUN) 09/22/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) El Capitan & Metalik b El Yaki & Satara
Tecnicos took 2/3.
2) El Hippie I & El Hippie II b Demonio Rojo & Sádico
Hippies took 1/3.
3) Évola, Infierno, Ráfaga b Esfinge, Metatrón, Virgo
Rudos took 1/3.
4) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Sky Kid & Smaker [OCCIDENTE TAG, final]
finals of an eight team tournament for vacant title (last held by Texano and Terrible.) Tecnicos took the first, Trueno brothers the second. Truenos pulled an illegal switch in the third to win the titles. Sky Kid & Smacker demanded a rematch next week.
5) Rush, Sagrado, Super Porky b Felino, Ishii, Niebla Roja
Tecnicos took 1/3.

This year’s Lucha Libre Expo is canceled.  This news was going around last week. The official story is the building was just too full in their new planned date of November (though the stories were heard were more general economic problems.) They’ve left open the possibility of returning in July or August 2014.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Lucha Libre In Japan

09/22 NOAH: Taiji Ishimori b Fenix [GHC Junior Heavyweight] (18:20)
7th defense. Sounds like it was a good match.

09/21 AJPW: Cuervo [O] & Kenzo b Kento Miyahhara & SUSHI [X]
Cuervo got a pin!

Pierrothito did NOT wrestle in Queretaro after all. Pequeno Nitro replaced him.

New Puebla tecnico Paris is the son of Ares el Guerrero and was trained by Black Tiger.

Volador defeats Sombra (a week late), TxT ‘postpones’ triple mask match (much too late)

CMLL (FRI) 09/20/2013 Arena Mexico [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), CMLL, TerraYahoo! Deportes]
1) Guerrero Negro Jr. & Herodes Jr. b Molotov & Soberano Jr.
Rudos took 2/3 in a good opener. Guerrero Negro didn’t cover up his newly bald head.
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Luna Mágica, Marcela b La Comandante, La Seductora, Princesa Blanca
Straight falls for the tecnicas, though Dallys stole a Marcela pin at the end and they shoved each other again.
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Rey Cometa, Tritón b Ishii, Puma, Tiger
Tecnicos took 2/3 in a very good match. Fantamsa landed the Phantom Attack on Tiger for the win.
4) Ángel de Oro b Misterioso Jr. [lightning]
Angel de Oro survived Misterioso’s big moves and beat him with the mecedora in 6:46
5) Diamante Azul, Super Porky, Titán DQ Pierroth, Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
DQ for excessive Rey Escorpion violence on Super Porky.
6) Averno, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr. b Atlantis, Blue Panther, La Sombra
In a backstage promo after the match, UG spoke about last week not being a fraude because they said the mask match would be the winner of the tag match but he and Atlantis would do their mask match some time down the line.

I think there’s got to be 20 better things to do with Rey Escorpion than to feud him with Super Porky, but that’s a feud that actually might have a resolution (and a good one for Escorpion.)

Terra suddenly ended after the fourth match. They had time to say goodbye, but there was no explanation. It appears the top two matches will air on Fox Sports, which means maybe this will be the way they go from now on (or maybe they’ll change it in a week.) They were also using a different device to handle the video capture and didn’t appear to have it set up right – they seemed to be cropping the bottom of the (4:3) feed to get it to Terra’s usual (16:9) ratio, and some of the mat work was hard to see. Hopefully they fix that before Sunday.

Friday night, Todo x el Todo announced Saturday’s mask match between Hijo del Santo and LA Park and Dr. Wagner Jr. was canceled. The show had been promoted on TxT shows and press conferences. The press release blames “social political conditions” and the recent Ingrid/Manuel storms which hit Mexico and have caused the Zocalo to be used for donations for the cancellation. They say the match is not canceled, just postponed a moment, until “the natural course of actions.”

This is total garbage. TXT never had an agreement for a show and knew the show wasn’t happening long before these storms. They probably would’ve been better off just never mentioning the show, because this cancellation was done in a cowardly and disgusting way.

No card had ever been announced. No start time had ever been announced. Everyone knew it wasn’t going to happen. The people involved had stopped talking about the show so they wouldn’t have to try to explain why they were making no progress on it. Instead, TxT uses a storm – where people died and thousands lost their homes – as cover for canceling a show they knew long ago wasn’t happening. It’s very low.

It’s not even like TxT appear to care about the people affected by the storm in this press release. AAA found a way to integrate donations with it’s show this weekend, by comparison. TxT is using a tragedy to get out of running a show it couldn’t run, but doesn’t say they’re helping the people who’s lives are really affected in any way.

The reality is no show was going to happen in Zocalo this weekend. It wouldn’t be allowed due to the political climate. We visited the area on Tuesday and it was on lockdown to prevent the protesting teachers from returning to set back up camp and occupy the area again. It’s now also going to be used to collect donations for people harmed by the recent hurricanes, but there’s no situation where they police would’ve allowed people to freely enter that area this weekend or really any time soon. Even if the show had really ever been set, it would’ve been canceled (and canceled a while ago.)

The reality is Santo and company never had a confirmed deal to run a show in Zocalo this weekend. The governmental organizing committee was talking to TxT, CMLL and AAA all about running a show there, with the companies undercutting each other on the cost. It did not appear any deal with any promotion was ever done. It definitely does not appear Santo thought he was particularly close, since he’s been hinting the show was canceled for weeks and has spent the last week in New York City instead of promoting the supposed show. This is about as insincere as a press release can get.

LA Park versus Dr. Wagner, with or without Santo, still may happen some point. It still depends on someone offering them the amount of money they want (which is really high, and probably will get higher between when they agree to the show and the day of the show.). This doesn’t really affect that. It’ll be tough to get people to believe it’s actually happening at any point, but it was already that way.

Zumbi’s father passed away.

Sin Cara will team with Rey Misterio Jr. on the upcoming WWE Mexico tour.

A bill overwhelming passed the Mexico House of Representatives which would restrict lewd images and phrases as well as anything advocating violence on television. This is a “all our children would have good morals if there weren’t women in bikinis on TV” thing, but it sounds like it’s possibly something which could affect lucha libre. It still must pass the Senate and it’s unclear how much power they’d have to enforce such things – the article mentions later about the networks voluntarily making changes.

Hijo del Rey Misterio (II) and Extreme Tiger will be wrestling in the Chicago area this weekend.

Cronicas y Leyendas looks back at heavyweight champion Popitekus,
