07/19 news

Ovaciones is down once again. It was up this morning, and I guess I should’ve done the update then instead of waitig a few hours.

IIRC, there were three articles

- Interview with Super Comando. Dr. Wagner Jr. was his inspiration to start wrestling. He’s looking for an oppurtinty to move up the card.

- Report from the CMLL show in Hidalgo, I think. Though there are Puebla results up on WO.com, but that’s too quick of a turn around for non-DF shows.

- Normal CMLL Tuesday/Friday preview

As noted in previous posts, Mistico was replaced by Ultimo Dragon, under his “the Tiger” gimmick, for dragon door’s debut show. Ultimo won, via mask rip and cradle. Post match, Dragon/Tiger challenged Guerrero to a mask/mask match. They were teasing that match a while back in CMLL, and it wouldn’t be a half bad idea, but I’m also not holding my breath.

The original plan was for Ultimo and Mistico to also work a NJ show or shows. Not sure if that’s still the case; Ultimo’s not listed on any upcoming NJ card, but they’ve only listed partial lineups.

this weekend’s ELL-MEX shows

We have posters!

Posters look cool, though Sagrada looks quite chubby on the second. Still don’t care enough to go.

07/18 notes

IWRG (THU) 07/14 Results [KrisZ]
1) Rey Estruendo b Carta Brava
2) Paramedico & Fantasma de La Opera b Galactik & Panterita
3) Avisman, Ultra Mega, Rey de Corazones b Pirata Morgan Jr., Nemesis, Kaleth
4) Corporativos (Dr. Cerebro & Cerebro Negro) b Stripers (Marco Rivera & Star Boy) [IWRG IC TAG]
5) Mistico, Felino, Suicida b Averno, Pantera, Mephisto

CMLL (FRI) 07/15 Arena Mexico Results [O'Campo]
1) Espectrito & Fire b Bam Bam & Fantasy
2) Dark Angel & Amapola b Lady Apache & Marcela
Single fall match, with the losers last time being the winners this time. Interestingly, just as the CMLL crowd turned on her husband, they were supporting Dark Angel over Lady Apache here. O’Campo said this was the best match of the night.
3) Leyenda de Azul
With no indication before the show, this was switched from the past cibernetico set up to a single elimination tournament. O’Campo is under the impression that this doubles as the G1 Tournament; that runs counter to what we’ve heard before and I don’t believe it’s correct, but who knows. The crowd was most behind Dos Caras Jr., Blue Demon Jr., and Ultimo Guerrero.

3a) Rey Bucanero b Heavy Metal in a 1st R\ound Match
3b) Dos Caras Jr. b Tarzan Boy in a 1st Round Match
3c) Ultimo Guerrero b Bronco in a 1st Round Match
3d) Rayo de Jalisco Jr. b Canek in a 1st Round Match
3e) Pierroth b Blue Demon Jr. in a 1st Round Match
3f) Hector Garza b Brazo de Plata in a 1st Round Match
3g) Black Warrior b Mascara Sagrada in a 1st Round Match
3h) Lizmark Jr. b Olimpico in 1st Round Match
1st Round matches went from 2 to 7 minutes; Rayo/Canek was the longest
3i) Dos Caras Jr. b Rey Bucanero in a Quarterfinal Match
3j) Ultimo Guerrero b Rayo de Jalisco Jr. in a Quarterfinal Match
3k) Hector Garza b Pierroth in a Quarterfinal Match
3l) Lizmark Jr. b Black Warrior in a Quarterfinal Match
2nd round matches went from half a minute (Hector/Pierroth) to 2.5 minutes (Ultimo/Rayo)
3m) Ultimo Guerrero b Dos Caras Jr. in a Semifinal Match
3n) Lizmark Jr. b Hector Garza in Semifinal Match
4 minute matches. Pierroth showed up for this last match, to get revenge for losing in a half minute the round prior (and probably the general breakup with the group.) He helped cause the loss, and attacked Hector with the help of La Nazi, and Hector was saved by – Princess Sugey. Huh.
3o) Lizmark Jr. b Ultimo Guerrero to win Leyenda de Azul
4 minute match. Quite a surprise for Lizmark to win, since he was on the outs with CMLL not too long ago. The one thing consistent with previous G1 talk was NJ being interested in Lizmark.
4) Atlantis b Dr. Wagner Jr.
5 minute match, which probably was caused by the show being so very long by this point. O’Campo has the fans being stronger for Dr. Wagner, but not as anti-Atlantis as last week. Wagner made a deal post match; if Atlantis can beat him for the NWA LH Championship, Wagner will face him for the masks.

Assuming this wasn’t the MEX G1 tournament (and I think that’s the case), the haphazard way Leyenda de Azul was run should show you how much to expect out of a MEX G1 Tournament. It’s just not something they have a good grip on.

Super Lucha’s cover features Lizmark Jr. holding up the plaque for winning Leyenda de Azul, and Atlantis and Wagner with barely any mask left.

Up in the corner, you might notice the line hyping Cien Caras Jr. in Guadalajara. I think Robert told me he’s doing the VERY ANNOYING Cien Caras Jr./El Hijo de Cien Caras bit. I’d really prefer something, anything else – maybe Cien Caras Red and Cien Caras Blue. Whatever. Anyway, one of ‘em was likely the guy wrestling as Sheriff in Guadalajara.

CMLL (SUN) 07/17 Arena Coliseo Results [ova]
1) Rayos Tapatios ? Mesala & Caligula
2) StarMan, Kronos, Valiente ? Ramstein, Reyes Veloz, Guerrero Del Futuro
3) Arkangel, Dr. X, Sangre Azteca b Pantera, Trueno, Texano Jr.
4) Felino, Black Warrior, Brazo de Plata b Hijo de Pierroth, Emilio Charles, Olimpico
5) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Rayo de Jalisco b Canek, Universo 2000, Mascara 2000
The rudo team fell apart; Canek accidently hit Universo, Mascara hit Canek on purpose in revenge, they argued and the Capos left Canek alone in the ring.

IF Wagner is facing Atlantis for masks in the near future
IF Wagner is losing his mask for the big payday
IF Canek won’t be able to have any huge match with Wagner as a result
THEN you can presume Canek’s turning back tecnico to do something else, rather than stay in the holding pattern.

But that’s a lot of IFs.

CMLL (MON) 07/18 Arena Puebla Lineup [KrisZ]
1) Asturaiano, Blue Center, Tigre Rojo vs Espiritu Maligno, Mr. Rafago, Toro Bill Jr.
2) Dr. Markus, Kraken, Maniacop vs Bobby Jack, Siki Osama, Tarahumara
3) India Sioux, Lady Apache, Marcela vs Amaploa, Dark Angel, Lady Warrior
4) Satanico vs Pierroth
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Dos Caras, Groon XXX vs Emilio Charles Jr., Mascara Y2K, Olimpico

CMLL (TUE) 07/19 Arena Coliseo Lineup [ova]
1) Shockercito & Frantasy vs Pequeno Violencia & Fire
2) Sombra d Plata, Valiente, Molotov vs Ramstein, Mogur, Jeque
3) Texano Jr., Tony Rivera, Pantera vs Dr. X, Arkangel, Apocalipsis
4) Sagrado, Black Warrior, Volador Jr. vs Emilio Charles, Hijo de Pierroth, Nitro
5) Dr. Wagner, Negro Casas, Bronco vs Tarzan Boy, Olimpico, Pierroth
6) Mistico vs Averno

Kaori and DGUSA (note to self: fix the side link) have confirmed that Mistico is off the Toryumon show because he didn’t take care of his visa. If it’s something he couldn’t control – a bureaucratic mixup or whatever – it sucks for him. If it’s something he could control, it’s really dumb. Either way, it’s a big chance wasted. You don’t get booked as “Rey Mysterio vs Psicosis” every day. Hope Ultimo doesn’t get screwed in the process, but I can’t imagine he won’t be. (He’s not booked this week, so he must still be going.) Since Mistico is the closest thing to a long term contracted guy, this reflects badly on CMLL as well, though I don’t know if they’ll actually care.

Not to say Mistico vs Averno won’t be fun, but we’re worse off for having it.

CMLL (FRI) 07/22 Arena Mexico Lineup [ova]
1) Neutron, Leono, StarMAN vs Super Comando, Artillero, Flecha
2) Maximo, Metro, Virus vs Sangre Azteca, Okumura, Taguchi
3) Heavy Metal, Dos Caras Jr., Negro Casas vs Tarzan Boy, Averno, Mephisto
4) Universo 2000, Apolo Dantes, Mascara Magica vs Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hector Garza, Pierroth
Hey! Mascara Magica’s alive.
5) Atlantis vs Dr. Wagner [NWA LH]
But where does Atlantis rank on the list of contenders?

CMLL (SUN) 07/24 Arena Coliseo Lineup [ova]
1) Rayo Tapatios vs Polvora & Vaquero
2) Kronos, Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metalico vs Zayco, Mesala, Guerrero del Futuro
We’ve seen Zayco before, correct? Name is familiar. Either that, or all the opening guys are getting a new gimmick, one per week
3) Felino, Brazo de Oro, Safari vs Arkangel, Dr. X, Veneno
4) Negro Casas, Black Warrior, Satanico vs Hijo de Pierroth, Averno, Mephisto
5) Groond XXX, Hijo de Lizmark, Rayo de Jalisco vs Canek, Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy
Hey, look, Groond was right. If he doesn’t settle on a spelling real soon, I’m calling him “Fred”.

In Sunday’s Ovaciones, Fureza Guerrera talked about coming back to AAA, and bringing the original Mosco de le Merced with him. They’re here to settle things with Ocatgon once and for all. Fuerza rejoined AAA because he was tired of being forgetton as an indy guy.

What Aired This Week

Galavision is currently airing the scheduled episode from 02/11:

Veneno/Mexico/Arkangel vs Alan/Sagrado/Mascara [coliseo]
Mistico vs Averno [NWA Middle]
Shocker/Dr. Wagner/Satanico vs Ultimo/Rey/Mephisto
Universo 2K/Cien Caras/Mascara 2000 vs Perro/Pierroth/Vampiro

07/15 news

Ovaciones’ single lucha article today is just another Atlantis/Wagner, with just another preview of Friday’s card, and just another mention of Terrible’s injury. It’s new content free. Three explanations come to mind

- The ‘lucha department’ was really busy this week doing other things and had to milk three days worth of stuff out of one ten minute talk with Atlantis

- CMLL really is doing Atlantis/Wagner for the anniversary show, and asked Ovaciones to focus the coverage on this week’s match to build interest.

- it’s just not a good paper!

Got to read the rest of elhalconnet today. In one of the note columns, they have Halloween saying he’s not on bad terms with CMLL (as LI said), just recovering from a knee injury and on the same ‘pay for dates FdT work’ schedule as normal.

They also have a recap from a OLX (hardcore), and the highlight to me is the ladder match for 8000 pesos! (Roughly $750 US.) They even have a picture of the guy proudly holding his winnings.

That’s it. I may be around this weekend, and I should post the posters for the Chicago shows.

07/14 news

CMLL (TUE) 07/12 Arena Coliseo Results [cmll]
1) Espiritu & Karisma b Polvora & Artillero
2) Texano Jr, Tony Rivera, StarMAN b Dr. X, Arkangel, Veneno
3) Sagrado, Metro, Virus dq Okumura, Taguchi, Nitro
4) Ultimo Guerrero, Olimpico, el Hijo de Pierroth dq Dos Caras Jr., Lizmark Sr., Satanico
Ultimo pulled his own mask and threw it to Satanico.
5) Mistico & Blue Panther b Averno & Mephisto
Tecnicos want a shot at the belts.

Intocable appeared at AAA’s weekly Arena Solidaridad (Monterrey) show on 07/10. He was still in a wheelchair, and thanks the fans for their support. There’s a picture of him and his neckbrace on Halcon.net.

Terrible is going to be out three to four weeks, due to a kick to the eye. He’s getting surgery tomorrow.

Besides the Dragon Door show, Ovaciones says Mistico and Ultimo Guerrero will also be working in NJPW while in Japan. They’ll be out of town from 07/17 (Sun) to 07/25 (Mon). Based off of those dates, I’d guess that means they’ll be on the 07/21 Samurai! TV Taping.

Halcon.net’s #27 issue was up, but the site’s down now. They have an interview with Ultimo Guerrero and a Q&A with Blue Demon.

In Arena Lopez Mateos on Saturday, Dos Caras Jr. and Dr. Wagner Jr. team up to face Rey Bucanero and Canes.

Ovaciones repeats the note from three weeks ago about Black Tiger going back to Japan real soon now. He must not be able to use the gimmick in IWRG either, so expect him to lose those trios belts if only so the Corp can rearrange the team.

In other real soon now news, there’s expected word about the Mexico G1 tournament soon. Ovaciones says it’s going to be a single match, but they may not know better right now.

I’m working on the future episodes listings a bit today (it’s listed as Yet To Air List over on the side.) Thanks to Robert and a tape list @ http://www.prodigyweb.net.mx/edure04/, I’ve been able to check some more lineups. The guy’s doing two hour weekly comp tapes of stuff he liked from AAA, CMLL Mexico City, CMLL Guadalajara and IWRG. Not many full episodes of anything, but enough listed to confirm a few things.

Anything listed with a * in the far right hand column means everything listed will air. Anything with a p means part of it’s confirmed, but there’s a match or two that was left off of his tape; usually, it means I still don’t know about the Arena Coliseo match, but the rest is good.

If you scroll all the way to the bottom, I’ve put the AAA episodes which haven’t aired yet down there as well. Those are all partial listings. I’ll be filling in the dates and taking a stab at the skipped episodes, later on.

Lucha Times

Lucha Times is updated ‘Are’ updated? I’ve been doing for how long and I can’t figure out the grammar. Normal times this week.

Saturday: This is supposed to be Averno versus Mistico – but by saying this, do a clinch it won’t happen? They could just as well go back to the episodes they’ve skipped.

Sunday: AAA action. You may enjoy the Barrio Boys vs the Dark Family.

07/13 News (or lack of)

Slow day. Tuesday Coliseo results haven’t surfaced. Ovaciones just has an interview with Atlantis, where he’s not saying much he hasn’t said all week. The closest we get to a comment about last week is “both guys are idols, and will have a lot of fans this week.” He hopes it’s a good match. (Me too!)

Things to do:

07/12 news

Really good news about Intcoable. Meltzer says a second operation was a success, and Intocable has been told he’ll be wrestling by November. That’s quite the dramatic turn around.

IWRG (THU) 07/14 Lineup [IWRG]
1) Carta Brava vs Rey Estruendo
2) Galactik & Panterita vs Paramedico & Fantasma de La Opera
3) Avisman, Ultramega, Rey de Corazones vs Pirata Morgan Jr., Nemesis, Kaleth
4) Corporativos (Dr. Cerebro & Cerebro Negro) vs Stripers (Marco Rivera & Star Boy) [IWRG IC TAG]
5) Mistico, Felino, Suicida vs Averno, Pantera, Mephisto

IWRG (SUN) 07/17 Lineup [IWRG]
1) Panterita & Black Solder vs Carta Brava & Rey Estruendo
2) Rey de Corazones & Galactik vs Fantasma De La Opera & Macho II
3) Payasos (Coco Rojo, Coco Verde, Coco Blanco) vs Black Terry, Polizon, Xibalva
4) Fantasma, Hijo del Fantasma, Fantasma Jr. vs Black Tiger, Scorpio Jr., Pantera
5) Veneno vs Cyborg [hair/hair]

Ovaciones has an interview with Atlantis – but doesn’t ask the “Hey, you got booed, how weird was that?” question. There’s doing a photo exhibition of him at the Guerrero Metro station starting next Friday, so this is to promote that and the kids show. They’ll also have a display of some of the trophies he’s won, and the masks he’s taken including Villano III.

(What’s sorta odd is the Metro site lists the exhbition as running from 07/05 to 07/28 – which means they started last Tuesday. I assume they’re just off on the Metro website.)

The Tuesday Arena Coliseo hype article is worked around an interview with Mephisto, but he doesn’t say all that much new. Averno would like another shot at Mistico, as you might expect. Mephisto offers “they’re way too new a pair – let’s see if the fans like them as a team first” as the reason the main event won’t be a title match.

As I think was mentioned before, Groond XXX debuts in Arena Coliseo on 07/24. He’s presuming he’ll face GdI.

Ovaciones also pushes a Matrix/Cyborg title match this week, so they must’ve not gotten the IWRG lineups before they went to print.

Box Y Lucha updated yesterday evening. The cover seems to affirm the speculation that Zumbido is out of AAA already. The poster is El Dandy and it’s not safe for work. It’s quite random, actually.

The website for the site appears to have changed some settings that make it really hard for you to translate the site into English; you keep getting bumped back to the main page instead. It’s not really stopping people from translating, it just takes a couple extra steps.

Inside the 2772th edition:
- Tijuana notes column. Sounds like Rey Mysterio Sr. might be taking some injury time off.
- Notes on the Blue Demon comic. They plan to make available in Japan, Spain, Central and South American and the US. It’s scheduled to be monthly.
- Interview with the children of the Black Shadow. Shadow kept his family and work completely separate, and it wasn’t until they were into their teens till they really understood what their father did for a living.
- Atlantis explains his fight with Dr. Wagner was inevitable; they couldn’t exist on the same side. Dr. Wagner broke one of Atlantis’ ribs before turning tecnico, which Atlantis hasn’t forgotten. He wants Dr. Wagner to stop teasing the mask match and sign the contract. There’s also a “who’s house? MY HOUSE” debate
- Dr. Wagner provides the counterpoint. It is indeed his house. The people love him more than Atlantis, and he only became a tecnico because the people demanded it. Wagner steers the challenge towards a UWA Title match instead of a mask/mask. Wagner claims to still be getting the hang of the tecnico thing, but he will not allow himself to be defamed.
- Interview with Rafa El Maya, who’s been refereeing for the last 22 years (currently in CMLL)
- The Box Y Lucha story is Zumbido no-showed both TV Tapings, and so, if Pena’s any smart, he’ll be cut.
- Interview with Marcela, about her start.

La Mascara defends the Mex Welterweight Title ves Magnum in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara on Sunday.

07/11 news

While superlucha’s board is not up, Ernest O’Campo’s report on last Friday’s Arena Mexico show can be found here. The main page of the forum can be found @ http://miarroba.com/foros/ver.php?id=243340. (Thanks again, Raquel.)

His take on the main event was both sides started the match as tecnicos, but the crowd inexplicably started booing Atlantis. Wagner attacked Ke Monito (who was here with Atlantis) between the first and second falls, and then again between the second and third (taking a stretcher ride that time), and yet they still cheered Wagner and booed Atlantis. Weird. Who will they cheer when they go one on one this week?

Bronco’s apparently changed his outfit, toning down the horse aspects a bit. Best match of the night was the Japan/Virus/Rivera/Maximo one.

CMLL (SUN) 07/10 Arena Coliseo Partial Results [ova]
1) Mini Olimpico & Bracito de Oro ?? Fire & Sombrita
2) Brazo de Plata Jr., Neutron, Argos ?? Hiromi Horiguchi, Guerrero del Futuro, Mogur
3) Arkangel, Veneno, Sangre Azteca b Metro, Tony Rivera, Texano Jr.
4) Rayo de Jalisco, Ultimo Dragon, Brazo de Plata b Universo 2000, Emilio Charles, Olimpico
Low blow finish. Can you believe it?
5) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Negro Casas b Tarzan Boy, Rey Bucanero, Pierroth
Pierroth and GdI made peace before the match, and then Pierroth ended up costing his team by trying to get the pinfall for himself once again. The rudos argued post match. Pierroth better not be turning tecnico.

CMLL (TUE) 07/12 Arena Coliseo Lineup [cmll]
1) Espiritu & Karisma vs Polvora & Artillero
2) Texano Jr, Tony Rivera, StarMAN vs Dr. X, Arkangel, Veneno
3) Sagrado, Metro, Virus vs Okumura, Taguchi, Nitro
4) Dos Caras Jr., Lizmark Sr., Satanico vs Ultimo Guerrero, Olimpico, el Hijo de Pierroth
Thank you, CMLL.com lineup guy, for using the “Sr.”
5) Mistico & Blue Panther vs Averno & Mephisto
Not a title match. Too bad.

CMLL (SUN) 07/17 Arena Coliseo Lineup [cmll]
1) Rayos Tapatios vs Mesala & Caligula
2) StarMan, Kronos, Valiente vs Ramstein, Reyes Veloz, Guerrero Del Futuro
Lucha Insider said Kronos is Brazo de Plata Jr. This is the first we’ve seen of him.
3) Pantera, Trueno, Texano Jr. vs Arkangel, Dr. X, Sangre Azteca
Now who’s Trueno? Not a name I’ve seen anywhere, so I think someone else is getting a new gimmick. Trueno translates to thunder.
4) Felino, Black Warrior, Brazo de Plata vs Hijo de Pierroth, Emilio Charles, Olimpico
5) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Rayo de Jalisco vs Canek, Universo 2000, Mascara 2000

Superlucha’s cover has Atlantis ripping Wagner’s mask, and talk of Crazy Boy joining CMLL under a new identity.

On Sunday, Ovaciones had an interview with Alan Stone and Super Calo. KrisZ has a better summary than I did,

Alan Stone & Super Calo did an interview with Ovaciones yesterday where Calo confirmed that he will be joining his brother in Promociones Antonio Pena but their other brother Chris hasn’t come to terms yet with the company. It looks like though that Chris Stone will be under the Super Calo gimmick.

Having a second Super Calo is weird, but fitting for AAA. Alan is wearing the Intocable-like outfit, because the original plan was just to team those two up. Obviously not happening now.

Robert pointed this out in the comments: Over on the Box Y Lucha forum, there’s a
scan of a CMLL magazine/program they’ve apparently been handing out the last few weeks; it’s listed as issue #4. I would love to subscribe this magazine, but I think I’d like it better if the dates were correct for the results (which appear to be a week off – maybe it’s a print error.) Notice they list an additional opening match for the Coliseo, too prelim for even the website to list! (I’ve added it to the results.)
