08/14 news

Not much going on today. Ovaciones says Arena Neza will be running Thursday and Sundays, and Rey’s getting an NWA LH Title shot down the line.

Super Luchas’ cover features the Pierroth Family; of note, there’s now a Pierroth II (I’ve heard he’s X-Fly, but I’ve never seen him so I may be totally off.) The best part of the Picture is the face Pierroth Jr. is making.

Near the bottom of that cover, there’s a headline about Psicosis II being stripped of the Mexico MW Title. KrisZ notes that it’s the comissions doing, and it’ll be sent to CMLL.

Your G1 Update!: Lizmark apparently flew in to work one show (and appear on another) and flew back, because he’s listed on cards this week. Sucks to be him, but at least he won, beating Takashi Iizuka. O’Campo says Lizmark and Texano work in Japan starting September 8th, which would be part of NJPW’s Golden Fight Series 2005 tour.

Lineups on Monday.

From 02/26. Virus vs Rocky Romero is his last appearance to date. Pretty big name main event.

CMLL (FRI) 08/12 Arena Mexico Results [ova]

2) Dr. X & Nitro b Safari & Chamaco Valaguez Jr.
3) Dark Angel, Sahoria, Marcela b Princesa Sujei, Amapola, Raven Hiroka
4) Texano Jr. b La Mascara [G1 Climax Juniors]
Texano is headed to Japan – at some point, for something, involving some wrestling. I know that! Don’t know much more than that.
5) Universo 2000, Mascara Ano 2000, Mascara Magica b Dos Caras Jr., LA Park, Lizmark Jr.
6) Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hector Garza, Damian 666, Halloween DQ Mistico, Atlantis, Negro Casas, Heavy Metal
That decision might not be exactly correct – a plethora of people wearing Pierroth masks ran in and attacked the rudos.

CMLL’s reopening Arena Neza with this lineup:

CMLL (THU) 08/18 Arena Neza Lineup [cmll]
1) Mini Olimpico & Tzuki vs Mini Pierroth & Espectrito
2) Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metalico, Sombre de Plata vs Hooligan, Mesala, Caligula
3) Blue Panhter, Satanico, Felino vs Emilio Charles, Mephisto, Sangre Azteca

The CMLL Women’s Championship, now listed as vacant, will be filled in a cibernetico. Included so far are the six women in the trios match this past week, La Nazi and India Sioux. The date for the match is undecided, but it’ll probably be between now and the Anniversary show (and Dark Angel’s surely going to win, but shhhh on that for now.)

The Winner of the G1Mexico Junior Tournament is

The usual Box Y Lucha forum post says the winner is…TEXANO JR.

Winners: Texano Jr., KrisZ, me, people who e-mail me
Losers: Robert!

Always side with KrisZ. Always.

CMLL #167

Episode from 02/12 – look, I’m nearly out of winter!

Mr. Mexico makes great faces and Loco Max is underrated and Alan Stone is perfectly fine and Zumbido sure seems like an interesting person in many ways…but looking back at it now, that’s a weird tag feud to pull out of the midcard.

Maybe I’m just over thinking this, and it was just a case of picking two tecnicos they liked and coming up with something that’d let them guage the public’s reaction to them.

There are plenty of guys who never really get chances, but Zumbido isn’t in that category. Obviously there are the personal problems I’m skirting around, but when given a chance by his promotion, he couldn’t make it work – this match was okay but the not the kinda eyeball grabbing special you need to get over in his slot, and the Super Crazy/Zumbido match (which I’ll get to in a few days) wasn’t really memorable besides the Super Crazy stage moonsault. Maybe he needed a big trios match? The Mexican Title ones weren’t bad.

The Blue Panther/Black Tiger match felt similiar to the Dr. Wagner/Universo match, and that’s such a “duh” comment I should’ve skipped it.

Either I’ll post a recap earlier tommorow, or I’ll do a double shot for Sunday. We’ll see!

CMLL (TUE) 08/09 Pachua, Hidalgo Results [ova]
1) Medics III & Diavolo b Aztec de Oro & Concord
2) Cerebro Negro & Mensajero de la Muerte b Doctor Kalini & Aquiles
3) Tigre Metalico, Maximo, Halcon Dorado b Sangre Azteca, Nitro, Titan
Before the match, Tigre thanked the ringside doctor, the promoter, and the fans for the help and attention he got when he was injuried last month.
4) Negro Casas & Felino DQ Halloween & Damien
Damien low blowed Negro, but the ref saw it.

Elsewhere, there’s an Arena Mexico preview, and brief bit about the AAA show in Nicaragua. No specifics there, except for a list of wrestlers used. Next Friday, AAA is in Puebla with a double main event of Shocker vs La Parka II vs Cibernetico and Zorro putting both titles up (though Ovaciones disagrees with about what titles they are) against Charly Manson.

Should be another recap up tonight and I’ll see if I can track down the G1 winner.

AAA #654

I was going thru my list of saved Lucha Libre shows, just checking out the next week to recap. Imagine my reaction when I realize it’s an AAA show I didn’t even know I had. Didn’t know I want to have.

I was going to completely blow it off, but I couldn’t find a recap of it elsewhere. Had to do it myself.

It’s the 01/29 show, with this lineup:

Mascarita Sagrada CO Mini Abismo Negro [MEX mini]
Billy Bob/Alan/Decnnis b Cuervo/Ozz/Scoria
Pimpinella/Flowers/Polvo DQ L. Apache/Cynthia/F. Apache [m v w]
Zorro/Nautillius/Alfa b Abismo/Alliens/Juvi [no dq]

The opener is pretty good. The stips are listed wrong in some places; Abismo’s LLL Title (which I’m not sure I want to count – if it shows up again, maybe) is listed on the line in WHV’s tape listings, but they clearly indicate it’s only the Mexican National Title up for grabs. Of course, after the match, all the tecnicos wonder why Sagrada only gets one title, so it’s confusing.

The Barrios Brothers vs Dark Family was “your turn for a spot or my turn for a spot” for me. And the top two had AAA booking inflicted on them.

Saturday: On the east coast (normal) feed, it’s pushed back an hour for a music special. On the West Coast, it’ll air 9-11 because of a couple futbol games. As for the show itself, you’ve got a Super Comando/Sombra de Plata singles match and a main event of Dr. Wagner & Mistico vs Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero. Robert thought it was a show worth getting when you had to pay for it, so I guess it’s worth checking out for free.

Sunday: Normal times. We’re on the second to last AAA show, and I didn’t find anything particularly appealing about this one.

08/11 news

Posted this a little later so I could check out Shocker’s chat on Box Y Lucha. It went over two hours, and he took quite a few questions.

It seemed like 1 out of every 3 questions could be distilled down to “why did you leave CMLL and join AAA?” The chatters seemed anti-AAA. The short story is the deal was too good to pass up; better contract, and he wouldn’t be free for the TNA deal otherwise, which sounds like good money. He’s not burning any bridges with CMLL, saying both are good.

Another third of the questions where “when are you coming [x]“? Being oh so insightful, the only question I came up was “are you coming back to Chicago” – though who knows what it sounds like when it came out google.translation – and he didn’t get around to answering it.

Shocker has a nice looking website at http://www.shockerguapo.com/

Other notes of varying importance.
- He is redoing the Guapo U group as an AAA stable.
- He wants to be neither tecnico nor rudo, and he’d like to fight guys on both side, like Abismo Negro and Latin Lover. He sees Cibernetico as his biggest rival.
- One of his great dreams is to be a star in WWE. It’s nice to have dreams.
- He met with NJ while in Orlando – but he prefers to wrestle for his new AAA fans in Mexico. (Or, the hookup with CMLL complicates it.)
- I think he picked Atlantis over Dr. Wagner.
- His TNA deal prevents him from going to ROH, but maybe in the future? He’s got a year long deal with TNA. He thinks ROH wrestlers are really good.
- Shocker works out two hours a day, when he has time.
- Shocker is willing to drop his hair – for a million dollars.

The main Ovaciones article today is an interview with Hector Garza. He’s going to give a gift to the people – Pierroth’s shaved head. He’d like to wrestle in Germany, France and Spain at some point. He’s picking Dr. Wagner over Atlantis, and after they both win their matches, he would enjoy putting his hair up against Dr. Wagner’s mask, just to see if Dr Wagner is as good as he says.

today’s confusing G1 Update!: As previously mentioned, Lizmark’s going to New Japan for their next tour- he leaves on the 14th. He’ll be going back to Japan in September for G1World.

El Halcon #31 is up. Inside:
- Lots of better pictures of Texano Jr. than the one that’s up
- Interview with Dos Caras Sr.
- Arena Mexico recap
- Q&A with Mascara Sagrada I. He’s got a WWO Heavyweight Championship.
- Poster of some the new-er/local guys on the last AAA taping.
- LLF recap
- 1-2-3 Fuego Notes column. They’re picking Hector over Pierroth. Groon has been out injured, and so is Tigre Hispano.
- Arena Queretaro results
CMLL (TUE) 08/09 Arena Queretaro Results [halcon]
1) El Rojo b Zarna
2) Silver Dragon, Fuego Latino b Startron, Neuroisis
3) Drak Angel & Amapola b Marcela & Sahori
4) La Mascara & Misterioso II b Averno & Mephisto
Tecnicos will get a tag team title shot down the road for the win.
5) Rayo de Jalisco & Brazo de Plata b Universo 2000 & Emilio Charles
Rudos didn’t get along.
- Another Women’s promotion, using a lot of the FFL roster. Report says the attendance was initially 30 people, so they delayed the show for an hour and tried get more people to come.
- AAA Arena Coliseo de Monterrey report

Recap & Lucha Times later.
