Lucha Times: GA Rematch, delayed West Coast feed

PuroDVD updated their tape listings with a whole bunch of CMLL; every episode till the last month. I’ve updated the CMLL Yet To Air listings with that information.

Saturday: Split feed for the first time in a while; if you get the west coast version, it’s pushed back to 10pm. Futbol’s back.

This is an odd week, because no one I’ve checked seems to have a tape of this episode; my listing is still a partial guest. This episode should feature a rematch of last week’s main event.

Sunday: The episode in turn didn’t actually air; it was one of those weeks where Saturday was pre-empteded for whatever reason. If they skip to the next episode, it’ll be the one with the second Ultimo/Dos match and the weird ten man tag.

01/18 news: Dr. O’Borman passes away

Dr. O’Borman Sr. passed away Monday due to heart problems. (Box Y Lucha foro). Lucha Libre Independiente had talked to him last month for an interview, and outside the crutches, he looked in good health then.

I believe he’s not related to the current Dr. O’Borman Jr. or Dr. X (who previously used that name); they were just leasing the name from him.

CMLL (MON) 01/16 Arena Puebla Results
1) Valiente, Kirvan, Forajido b La Fecha, Mr. Rafaga, Ares
2) Trueno, the Tiger, Asturiano b Furia Chicana, Siki Osama, Bobby Jack
3) Starman, Centella de Oro, SWAT b Hijo de Gran Markus, Maniacop, Kraken
4) Dr. Wagner Jr., Ultimo Dragon, Mr. Niebla b Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Damian 666, Canek
5) Mistico b Averno [NWA MW]

Not totally sure about that semimain result. Definetly sure about that main event.

2005-01-01 Arena Coliseo Mistico b Averno [NWA MW]
2005-02-11 Arena Mexico Mistico b Averno [NWA MW]
2005-10-16 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Mistico b Averno [NWA MW]
2006-01-16 Arena Puebla Mistico b Averno [NWA MW]

There’s at least one more Guadalajara title match I need to add as well.

CMLL (TUE) 01/17 Arena Coliseo Results
1) Bracito de Oro, Fantasy b Sombrita, Fire
2) Flecha, Caligula, Mesala b Sensei, Crazy Boy, Danger
3) Virus, Tony Rivera, Pantera b Mr. Mexico, Okumura, Masada
4) Felino, Lizmark, Satanico DQ Pierroth, Terrible, Emilio Charles Jr.
5) Mistico, Dos Caras Jr., Negro Casas b Tarzan Boy, Averno, Mephisto

During the second match, Crazy Boy dove and ended up landing on armrest in a bad way. (The translation says “impaled”, which would be very bad.) Anyway, I think this is what my friend Earl mean when he was talking about harma. Felino took off his mask and threw it to Emilio to get the DQ win in the fourth match. Dos pinned Tarzan with a German suplex to win the main event.

Pictures aren’t up on the .com website, but they are on Alexis’ blog.

No full Guadalajara report, but Brazo de Plata did defeat Asesino Negro for his hair. (Box y Lucha)

CMLL.com has a note about Perros del Mal signing autographs before Friday’s Arena Mexico show.

A Texano bio was posted on box y lucha‘s forums.

Ovaciones talks to fellow wrestlers about Texano today. The injury he suffered was actually early in 2005, and he wrestled despite it for a while, though not at the same level. That match also included Rey Misterio, Super Parka, Satanico and Villano III, and Villano III feels bad about the sequence of events.

El Signo talks about his long friendship with El Texano, going back to 1971, and of course was one of his partners in the Missionaries of Death trio.

Indomito talks about visiting Texano this past Christmas, thinking that he might not have another chance.

Manny Guzman, former leader of the wrestler unions, knew Texano when he was president Comision de Vigilancia from 1990 to 1996 (not sure what that is.) Guzman was out of lucha libre, but came back to help with the Texano’s benefit show. They already had plans to run one more, on March 1st with the AAA wrestlers, and now the money will go to Texano’s family.

Villano III talks about the classic battles he and his brothers had with the Missionaries of Death.

Box Y Lucha’s articles are up.
- Juvi reveals the Real Reason He Was Fired: His visa came up for renew, and the Mexican officials, due to stricter security concerns because of terrorism, turned Juvi down. They said he could try again in 3 to 6 months, and the WWE said he’s free to join them whenever he gets it all cleared up; Juvi says he finished on good terms with the company and could get back his spot when he wanted. He was happy with he accomplished in his time there: creating the Mexicools, being champions.

However, Juvi’s realized he likes working in Mexico very much – it’s the silver lining. He’s weighing his options; he’s on good terms with AAA, but maybe he’ll go to Arena Mexico. He’s also going to try and start businesses out of wrestling, now realizing he won’t be wrestling forever.

Juvi assures us that information this is the absolute truth, as he knows it.

- Those still in the WWE give interviews with Box Y Lucha as well.

Super Crazy’s thrilled to be both in the WWE and to be wrestling in front of home fans this week; all his family is coming to the Mexico City show. His dream is to win the Tag Team titles, and I would not be surprised to see that dream come true this week. Crazy thanks all those who trained him

Rey Mysterio Jr. wrestled in Arena Mexico before he went to the WWE because he thought he might not have a chance to again wrestle in Mexico City (and that arena) for a long time. Now, four years later, he’s wrestling again in Mexico City with WWE.

Rey says the people want to see him under a mask, and so that’s what he’s going to do. He’s thinking about opening a Lucha Libre school in the US or Mexico. Lots of people ask Rey about the 619, and he always says he stole it from Super Astro, who’s one of his favorites. His current goal is to win the World Championship.

Nicho/Psicosis is in debt – with God, for all he’s given him. It’s been a long fifteen year trip to get this point. Psicosis talks about Eddie a lot, who he credits as his teacher. His goal is to make the fans happy, and also throws in a shot at Pena? I’m not sure if I understand that part right.

Rafeal Murphy, representative of WWE in Mexico, hypes up the tours. He hypes the show, sidesteps Juvi talk, and does the usual promise of surprises on the show. The promoter, Mauricio Andere, also talks about logistics of putting on such an event.

Other news:
- Damian refutes the story from a weeks ago about him no-showing an event
- Dos Caras Sr. celebrates his 36th year in lucha; that’s why we got the poster.
- Dark Angel and Aurora talk about wrestling in Japan (unnamed promotion). A lot of the usual style talk, Mexico vs Japan.

Dark Angel discusses being a unique mix of the Mexican and Canadian style, which is odd because no one talks about Canada having it’s own style (or at least not in years.) She’d love to face Marcela for the CMLL Women’s Title or Princesa Sujei in a stakes match this year.

Aurora hopes to one day wrestle in Arena Mexico – it’s been her dream forever (or at least since she started wrestling in Mexico in June.) They’re both interested in the WWE, but haven’t received offers and found some stuff women do there degrading.

- Pantera talks about his start in wrestling. He knew of a training gym, but didn’t have any money and his father didn’t want him to wrestle. Pantera disobeyed, sold a watch (or clock) his father gave him, paid his fee, got beat up in training, then went back home and got beat up by his father.

- Scorpio talks about his ill good friend, referee Guero Rangel

This Week’s Super Lucha Cover features a bloody Mistico and Olimpico with not much mask left.

2005 Tapatia Awards Voting Information

Hi!

This is the second Tapatia awards, designed to honor the best in lucha libre over the past year. We encourage all fans to vote, and let their voice be heard on the previous twelve months of Mexican lucha libre. This year of voting will cover the calendar year 2005. Due to Galavision’s enarmous delay in airing CMLL and AAA episodes, matches which were taped in 2004 but only aired in the United States in 2005 are eligible, and also can be used in consideration for other awards.

This year, we’ve expanded the award to twelve categories. We’re also going to offically start collection comments with awards, to be reposted together.

Voting will be held from January 17th to Feburary 17th, subject to change. One ballot per person. Send completed ballots to (and only to) luchaawards@thecubsfan.com. Ballots sent to other addresses or posted may not be counted.

Scoring: Categories with first thru third voting will give 5 points for first, 3 points for second, 2 points for third. Categories with first thru fifth voting will give 12 points for first, 8 points for second, 5 points for third, 3 points for fourth, and 2 points for fifth. Tie and split votes will be thrown out. There will be a quiz on this later.

Any match in any location using the Mexican lucha libre style are eligible to be included. Shows in the US and elsewhere using this style are included. Japanese lucha libre promotions such as Michinoku Pro are not included, but Japanese tours by Mexican lucha libre promotions are included. Female and mini wrestlers are eligible for all categories, unless otherwise specified.

Quick descriptions of the awards:
1) Best Wrestler – top wrestler over the last year.
2) Best Match – please include dates, location where possible
3) Best Singles Match – one on one matches only
4) Best Non-Singles Match – everything that’s not one on one
5) Best Tecnico – greatest good guy
6) Best Rudo – for the entertaining evil-doers
7) Best Female – women only. Sorry, no exoticos.
8) Best Promotion – treat each arena as it’s own group (except Coliseo/Mexico)
9) Best Rivalry – most interesting/exciting/entertaining feud. Can be person vs person, or people vs people.
10) Best Legend – wrestler over the age of 40.
11) Most Improved – wrestler who stepped up their game the highest from 2004
12) Most Underrated – wrestler who’s deserving of more attention from both the promotion and the fans

I (thecubsfan) am the sole dictator of the awards, and my decisions will be final.

Please cut and paste the following ballot to luchaawards@thecubsfan.com.. Do not post your ballot in this thread.

Texano passes away

El Texano, real name Juan Aguilar, passed away late last night. He was 47. (WO.com)

Texano’s last major show was part of 2005′s AAA Triplemania. He later suffered a back injury in Tijuana cage match (a culimination of years of wrestling and not one terrible fall; his back was visibly troubling him on the Triplemania show) which ended his career and led to his health problems.

Texano was paralyzed for a time due to that back injury, and it led to many other health problems. There were reports of him being in and out of the hospital, and tribute shows had been held to help pay his bills.

Box Y Lucha has a memories thread, and I presume there will be some sort of memorial to him on various shows this week. His son, Texano Jr., was scheduled to work the Arena Queretaro on Tuesday, and at him in Arena Guadalajara on Sunday.

01/16: Coliseo Results, this week’s lineups

CMLL (SUN) 01/15 Arena Coliseo Results
1) Bam Bam, Mini Olimpico, Fantasy b Mini Halloween, Mini Damian 666, Fire
2) Sensei, Trueno, Leono b Loco Max, Arkangel, Flecha
3) Lizmark Jr., Felino, La Máscara b Hombre Sin Nombre, Emilio Charles Jr., Okumura
4) Pierroth, Terrible, el Hijo del Pierroth b Mr. Niebla, Satanico, Negro Casas
5) Mistico, Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr. b Tarzan Boy, Averno, Mephisto

The lineup I had appears to have been wrong, because there were lots of changes – almost all adds. The main event was pushing Mistico/Averno, and Mistico pinned Averno (shocking) to get the win. Flecha replaced Ramstein, so he may have just been sellling Crazy Boy’s crazy move (flipping Rock Bottom off the apron) on Tuesday.

The lucha highlight show mentioned a while back (with Veneno as a host) is supposed to start airing late Janurary or early Feburary, probably on the same channel IWRG airs becaus they’re producing it.

Box Y Lucha #2749 is up – sorta. The cover features Rey Mysterio Jr and the poster has shots of Dos Caras Sr., but this week’s articles are not on the website.

Wouldn’t it be cool if I had page which would automatically list today’s shows and the shows for the next week? I totally should do that. Until I get around to it – I think there are some awards things I’m supposed to be doing or whatever – they’re listed below.

01/15 News: Nothing.

Not much going on.

Ovaciones has nothing but lineups today: Arena Coliseo (CMLL), Arena Naucalpan (IWRG) and Arena Monterrey (AAA). They actually lead with the Arena Mexico return show, but only mention Dark Angel’s match (and only mention in terms of being her match.)

On the Box Y Lucha forum, there’s a neat thread of wrestler profile pictures from a ’91 edition of Super Lucha magazine. It doesn’t seem possible, but there’s actual proof Konnan looked young at some point in his life.

GdR #7 lineup

Only because Robert demanded it (and I needed to see if it recorded anyway.) They skipped a week of tapings to catch back up – what an insane idea!

Episode #7
01/06: La Máscara b Black Warrior and Felino and Volador Jr. and Satánico and Texano Jr. and Máximo and Virus [cibernetico], Arena Coliseo
01/08: Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero b Dos Caras Jr., Hijo del Lizmark, Rayo de Jalisco Jr. [coliseo]

Also, Magadan on a bus! I think this show is sticking around a while, if how much they seem to enjoy doing it matters.

01/14 News: Friday Coliseo Results, Arena Mexico Return Lineup

CMLL (FRI) 01/13 Arena Coliseo Results
1) Rayo Tapatito I, Rayo Tapatio II b Zayko, Polvora
2) Crazy Boy, Tigre Blanco, Tiger Metalico b Flecha, Super Comando, Artillero
3) Maximo, Sagrado, Texano Jr. b Mr. Mexico, Nitro, Dr. X
4) Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000 b Dr. Wagner Jr., Rayo de Jaliscor Jr., Brazo de Plata
5) Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hector Garza, Damian 666 DQ Tarzan Boy, Rey Bucanero, Olimpico

Atlantis and Ultimo joined their GdA partners in destroying Perros del Mal in the third fall of the main event, which is technically against the rules. Ultimo promised to exterminate PdM in ’06, and that’s your top feud to start the year. Trios Champs were said to look good as a team and that’s why they won. Flecha was strechered out of his match after a move from Crazy Boy, which guarantees he’s not getting off some people’s list.

The Year Start card:

CMLL (FRI) 01/20 Arena Mexico Lineup
1) Mini Olimpico & Bam Bam vs Mini Halloween & Mini Damian 666
2) Dark Angel, Sahori, India Sioux vs Amapola, La Nazi, Hiroka
3) Mistico, Negro Casas, Heavy Metal vs Averno, Mephisto, Hombre Sin Nombre
4) LA Park, Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Universo 2000, Mascara Ano 2000, Olimpico
5) Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy vs Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hector Garza, Damian 666, Mr. Aguila

That should be a fun atomico.

CMLL (TUE) 01/10 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results
1) Thunder Boy b Ray Romero
2) Celestial b Flama
3) Rockero b Mr. Trueno
4) Makabre, Carlo Roggi b Evola, Guero Loco
5) Kronos DRAW Cien Caras Jr.
6) Asesino Negro b Brazo de Plata
7) Pierroth, Hijo de Pierroth DQ Volador Jr., Rayman

Asesino Negro and Brazo de Plata agreed to face each other in a hair match next week.

There’s plans for a special Arena Coliseo [DF] show on 02/05 to celebrate Santo’s death.

GALA is airing the scheduled CMLL episode.
