12/25 News

Ovaciones didn’t update and Sunday’s a slow news day anyway.

KrisZ reports that Tajiri stated that he hopes to return to action in Japan soon, but he first plans in returning to Mexico in February 2006. I believe that’ll be highly awesome.

The current return date to Arena Mexico is 01/20, but that’s always subject to change.

While the Saturday GALA episode was as expected, they showed a different AAA episode (aired after but taped before TripleMania.) If they don’t do a make up, next week is your last chance to see Perro/Mistico.

Perhaps more content later. Been working a lot on behind scenes things the last couple of weeks.

What aired on GdR:

12/16 MEX: Satánico, Felino, Sagrado b el Hijo del Pierroth, Okumura, Ohara
12/18 COL: Atlantis, Último Guerrero, Olímpico b Mistico, Negro Casas, Último Dragón

Which isn’t what they previewed last week, and means they are showing matches on both GdR and the GALA show, at least this week. They only mentioned Mistico for next week – that’ll be the match versus Atlantis taking place tomorrow.

In an interview with Mileno, Rey Mysterio Jr. says he’s planning on wrestling for three more years, provided he and his family are finically set at that time. (The article also says Rey performs in front off an average of 15,000 people a show, so don’t hold anyone to any part of it.) Mysterio wanted to promote and do more with his CMLL appearances (which happened more because of Rey wanting to do it than CMLL wanted him), but CMLL owner Alonso wouldn’t meet with him.

That’d be nearly 20 years for Mysterio. I suspect he’ll be doing a lot of media, leading up to the WWE Mexico shows.

Guerrero del Ring (no relation to the show) have set up their own forum

12/23 news

Note: site’s been acting goofy today. Hopefully it’s good now, but since I didn’t actually do anything to fix it this time or last time, don’t be shocked if it’s gone again.

barrio boys

So, I finally found a good picture of the Barrio Boys (Angel de Futuro, the guy in the mask, posted a whole bunch of AAA pics on Box Y Lucha), but now I can’t figure out who’s who. Help? (Click on it for a bigger picture.)

3) Marcela vs Amapola [CMLL WOMEN]
4) Villanos vs Brazos [super libre]
5) Averno & Mephisto vs Mistico & La Mascara [CMLL TAG]

Not sure which Villanos and which Brazos are in that match.

Ovaciones focuses on tonight’s first Friday Arena Coliseo show of the offseason. I can’t even remember what’s on the card.

CMLL (FRI) 12/23 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatío I, Rayo Tapatío II vs Vaquero, Polvora
2) Leono, Crazy Boy, Kronos vs Apocalipsis, Ramstein, Mesala
3) Stuka Jr., Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metálico vs Okumura, el Hijo del Pierroth, Dr. X
4) Último Dragón, Mr. Niebla, Sagrado vs Apolo Dantés, Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000
5) Atlantis, Último Guerrero, Rey Bucanero vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza, Terrible

Lots of talk about how the Perros/GdA feud will be a focus of 2006 (which is probably not good news for actual tecnicos! Look at poor Ultimo Dragon there.)

Atlantis vs Mistico is signed for Sunday, but I think we already mentioned that. They’re promising a big show for 01/06/06, which is el Dia de Reyes, a holiday I knew nothing about till five minutes ago.

Halcon reaches issue #50 this week; it’s a shorter TOC, but I got a lot of the interviews. Inside:
- Pictures from Safari and Sangre on tour in NJPW
- Interview with Sangre Azteca, talking about his recent tours with NJ. Sangre says Safari’s injury was to his elbow. Sangre’s not sure exactly how he got this gig: when Chono, Simon Inoki and Kuroneko came to Mexico this past summer, they worked out some wrestlers to test them, and Sangre participated there, and then later he and Koreano trained with Tanahashi and Nakamura, so he figures they must have saw something good in him. Wrestling in Japan has allowed him to move up to the semimains in Arena Coliseo, gotten him some more press, and grown as a person. Sangre is planning to take much of the rest of the month off to recover, but hopes to go after La Mascara’s Mexican Welterweight championship next year, as well as battle Satanico.
- Arena Mexico recap.
- Q&A with Pantera. He runs a glass business when he’s not wrestling. He took his name from a girls basketball team in Aguascalientes.
- Notes. The highest prices seats sold out for the WWE 01/19 show in three hours. LA Park claims his mask match is delayed not because Black Tiger III broke his nose, but because Black Tiger is scaredy cat.
- Interview with Sensei – he’s from Cuernavca. He was born in Mexico, but trained in a (unnamed) martial art from youth, spent some time in Kyoto, and was a big fan of Kato Kung Lee. Sensei explains he wears a mask because he is actually a Ninja! He’s training with Satanico now, and hopes to combine martial arts and lucha libre better than anyone’s done it. (That doesn’t seem like a hard thing to overcome.) Sensei says he’s been wrestling for five years, but lists his debut as June 2005 with no clue about his previous gimmick. This first night with this gimmick, he took the wrong mask to the commission to get checked out, so he had to wrestle with that one. He’s hoping he gets booked more in 2006. Sensei wishes us all Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in Japanesse.
- Aciccion Luchistica column. He chalks up Averno & Mephisto’s win to influence from Satan. I knew I forget to figure in something.

Today, I discovered elmartinete.com – I’ve been there before, but the main site is comedy which doesn’t translate well. The forums are useful, though: What does backyard garbage wrestling look like in Mexico? Much the same, but with more masks. Using a empty 24 Coke box folded is indeed awesome.

CMLL.com has video clips of La Campana, Guerrero Special, and Palanca a los Barzos, as to educate everyone as to what they are. Apparently the Guerrero Special isn’t the move I though it was? They’re also linking to http://www.luchalibrecmll.com, so I guess it’s at least semi-offical.

main page blank?

Not sure what’s going on now, but I’m noticing the main page is ending up blank every time it’s supposed to rebuild (when I post, when you post a comment.)

I’m working on the problem and may disable comments for the time being. All other pages on the site work fine.

Update:. I guess it’s working now, because I can’t get it to happen again. Eh. Comments still are active.

AAA (SAT) 12/17 Plaza de Toros, Chilpancingo, Guerrero Results [ova]
1) Mascartia Sagrada, Prince, Octagoncito b Mini Abismo Negro, Jerrito Estrada, Mini Chessman
2) Super Fly, el Costeno, Decnnis DQ Escoria, Cuervo, Ozz
3) Zumbido b Hijo del Fantasma [MEX MID, SF]
4) Chessman, Charly Manson, Cassandro b Televisa Deportes, Pimpinela Escarlata, Electro Shock
5) La Parka II, Intocable, Zorro vs Shocker, Alan Stone, Zumbido
6) Cibernetico DQ Vampiro

The ovaciones report doesn’t even mention the 5th match. Cassandro, the same one who’s worked in Lucha Va Voom and elsewhere in the US, debuted as an LLL member. The Psicosis II/Histeria semifinal match is scheduled to happen sometime in first two weeks of January. Lots of run-ins and blood in the main event.

AAA (TUE) 12/20 Arena Juba de Reynosa Results [KrisZ]
1) Batman, La Mole, Rocker Boy b Black Star, Luminoso, Misterio Negro
2) Chamaco Ortiz b El Dantes [mask, hair]
3) Estrella Dorado Jr. & La Parkita b Corazon de Barrio & Mini Psicosis
4) Zorro b Pirata Morgan [UWA LH]
5) Latin Lover & Tinieblas Jr. b Antifaz del Norte & Hator

CMLL (TUE) 12/20 Arena Aficion Results [ova]
1) Turbo, Piloto Suicida b Hijo de Medic’s, Hidroman
2) Skayde, Tony Boy b Cerebro Negro, Taro
3) Volador Jr., ? b Super Comando, Hombre
4) El Hijo Del Santo, La Máscara DQ Héctor Garza, Mr. Águila

Besides the Arena Aficion results, there’s a preview for the 10 Masks On The Line IWRG cage/tournament tonight. It’s two matches of 5, with the two losers advancing to face each other with their masks on the line.

Group A: Hijo de Pierroth, Ultra Mega, Stuka Jr., Mephisto, Felino
Group B: Nitro, Panther, Sagrado, Nemesis, Matrix

I don’t believe it’s going to be any of more CMLL-is names (though that’d be quite a story.) Nemesis is one third of the Riders of the Apocalypse trio with Pirata Morgan Jr. and Kaleth, and the fact that they’ve actually done something with him probably means he’s worth too much to lose here. Matrix and Ultra Mega are both IWRG regulars, and I expect it’ll be one of them – I’m betting on Ultra Mega, but I have no good reason.

After this show, the Sunday show will be the season ending show for IWRG. They’ll be off till, uh, next Sunday, just only taking Thursday off. Doesn’t seem like a big deal to me, but they make it sound like it is, so maybe I’m missing something.

In the Box Y Lucha forum, Dark Atlantis has posted links to many ’92-ish CMLL themes.

Misc lineups below.

Lucha Times

Saturday: No late night airing; pre-empted for Chirstmas type of stuff. If the scheduled episode airs, it’s one worth seeking out – the Reyes de Air cibernetico on this show has gotten rave reviews from those who’ve seen it.

Sunday: AAA Triplemania, yet again. This is the second two-thirds of the show, including the epic Psicosis II vs Nicho. Quite a shabby Chrismas present – you all must’ve been very rudo this year.

GdR: Normal time. At least one good Tuesday Coliseo main event, and then probably some Sunday undercard wackiness.

12/21 news

CMLL (TUE) 12/20 Arena Coliseo Results
1) Mesala, Calígula, Zayco b Danger, Trueno, Sensei
2) Virus, Texano, Tony Rivera b Dr. X, Loco Max, Apocalipsis
3) Black Warrior, Lizmark Sr., Felino b el Hijo del Pierroth, Emilio Charles, Canek Jr.
4) Rey Bucanero, Olímpico, Pierroth b Dos Caras Jr., Blue Panther, Lizmark Jr.
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. DDQ Último Guerrero

In the third fall of the main event, Wagner and Ultimo similtaneously pulled off each other’s mask in full view of the referee, so he called the double disqualification. Both wrestlers wanted another fall, but the referee refused, so they may just have another match sometime soon.

It appears like they’ve already dropped Black Warrior’s rudo turn; there’s no mention of it here.

CMLL (SUN) 12/18 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results [KrisZ]
1) Idolo b Flama
2) Mr. Trueno, Fraile de la Muerte b Exterminador, Metro
3) Ringo Mendoza, Nube Roja b Asesino, Angel Blanco Jr.
4) Mr. Niebla, Brazo de Plata, Rayman b Terrible, Bestia Salvaje, Cesar Dantes
5) Danger L Chris Stone and Okumura [hair]

CMLL (MON) 12/19 Arena Puebla Results [box y lucha]
1) Ares El Guerrero & Mr. Rafaga vs ? & ?
2) Espiritu Maligno, Bobby Jack, Tarahumara b Blue Center, the Tigre, Zigma
3) Mini Halloween, Mini Damian, Toro Bill Jr. b el Asturiano, Mini Olimpico, Ultimo Dragoncito
4) Brazo de Plata, Sagrado, Black Warrior b Negro Navarro, Cerebro Negro, Scorpio Jr.
5) Atlantis, Pierroth, Universo 2000 DQ Hector Garza, Damian 666, Perro Aguayo Jr.

Box Y Lucha posted it’s chat with Damian. Not much of note. Sounds like he’s going to be part of a big extreme show in Monterrey on 01/28, and he wouldn’t mind getting a WWE offer.

Box Y Lucha #2745 is up. The Cover is pictures from the last big AAA and CMLL shows of the year. Poster is of the Arena Mexico valets. The articles aren’t much – when there’s a long interview featured with Zorro Plateado Jr., it may be a slow week. I figure they didn’t post the main articles this week. Other stories: Arkangel is headed to AJPW (first I’ve heard about it), Sagrado gives us a (completely worked sounded) “how I got into wrestling” story, and Oriental and Cinthia Moreno are happy to be new champs.

The Arkangel story is odd, because they mention him having already left, but the next AJPW tour isn’t till the next year (and he’s not listed on their cards.) Not sure what actually is going on.

Anyone know the deal with this site: http://www.losluchadores.com.mx/? It looks like a professional site, but the information seems slightly out of date and not all the links work yet, which usually isn’t a good sign. Of note, they have a store which includes the Perros del Mal shirts for $22. (I got there off a forum plug.)

12/20 news

As I type this, I realize my website is not working. That’s not good. Obviously it’s working by now, or you wouldn’t be reading this.

Ovaciones has previews of the Arena Aficion show, and the Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday Arena Coliseo shows. The Atlantis/Mistico match was indeed added to the Sunday Arena Coliseo show, so it should turn up New Year’s weekend on GdR.

There’s also an interview with Ultimo Guerrero to preview tonight’s Ultimo/Wagner match at Coliseo. Ultimo feels he had a great year, what with adding Atlantis to the group and acquiring a lot more kid fans as a result.

WAGNER (SUN) 12/25 Auditorio Municipal, Torreon Lineup [box y lucha]
1) ? vs ?
2) Piloto Negro, Piloto Suicidia, Flecha Veloz vs Arana del Futuro, Oso Negro, Moro Jr.
3) India Sioux & Diana la Cazadora vs La Nazi & Princesa Sujei
4) Stuka Jr. vs Misterioso II vs Texano Jr. vs Hooligan vs Soberano Jr. vs Hijo del Soberano vs Mr. Power vs Gringo Loco vs Hijo de Cien Caras vs Rey Vikingo [cage of death, hair, mask]
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Angel Blanco Jr. vs Ultimo Guerrero & Blue Panther

Yes, Dr. Wagner Jr. is promoting this show, and by the looks of that lineup, he’s an awesome promoter. The Park/Tiger match is now on 02/04. (Won’t the Doc be shocked to find out it’s his brother under the mask!)

Veterinario on the Box Y Lucha board has a list of the Occidente (Guadalajara) champions.

Welterweight: Makabre
Middleweight: Metro de Guadalajara (as of 11/05)
Lightweight: vacant (they’re filling it this week)
Heavyweight: Cien Caras Jr. (who won it when he was still Sheriff)
Tag Team: Cien Caras Jr. & Hijo de Cien Caras (recently having beat Flash I & Flash II, who held for two years)
Trios: Neutron, Flash II, Idolo (haven’t defended it often)

IWRG (THU) 12/15 Arena Naucalpan Results [KrisZ]
1) Forastero b Zaiyer
2) Freezby, Kid Tiger b Fantasma de la Ópera, Rey Estruendo
3) Veneno, Kaleth, Nemesis DQ Fantasma Jr., Avisman, Ultra Mega
4) Masada, Pirata Morgan Jr. DQ Cerebro Negro, Suicida
5) Dos Caras Jr., Negro Casas, Hijo de Lizmark b Blue Demon Jr., Atlantis, Pierroth

12/19 news

Short post, becuase there’s not much going on.

CMLL (SUN) 12/18 Arena Coliseo Results [ova]
1) Sombra de Plata, Zetta b Polvora, Vaquero
2) Kronso, Sensei, Danger b Apocalipsis, Ramstein, Flecha
3) Mr. Mexico, Canek Jr., Loco Max b Pantera, Tigre Blanco, Tony Rivera
4) Felino, Satanico, Sagrado b Damian 666, Emilio Charles Jr., Hijo de Pierroth
5) Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Olimpico b Mistico, Negro Casas, Ultimo Dragon

Atlantis ripped up Mistico’s mask in the first fall, Mistico got a new mask, and Atlantis pulled the second mask off and rolled up Mistico in the third fall. Mistico wants another singles match, so that might be added later in the week.

Not as many shows this week, at least as far as Box Y Lucha knows. CMLL shows are as frequent as normal and look to have good lineups (without the noticable exception of the Arena Coliseo XMas day show – though they may add there.) AAA and indy shows are either not happening or missing.

IWRG runs a hair mask on Sunday, and a losers advance cage match tournament where someone I’ve heard of (but haven’t seen) probably will lose their mask on Thursday.

12/18 news

Not much news; just roundups of previously mentioned lineups. There’s a note that Tigre Metalico and Tigre Blanco are the current Mexico State (EdM); I have Rayo Tapatio I & II as champions, but I might have gotten those belts confused with another. No idea when/where they would’ve won those belts.

The Ultimo Guerrero/Dr. Wagner match will take place as the main event of Tuesday’s Arena Coliseo show. It’ll likely be on the CMLL mothership and not GdR. They’re going to run shows as scheduled on Christmas and New Year’s.

The pictures from this week’s Arena Mexico show are up on CMLL.com. Check out Atlantis and his new red & black mask.
