Atlantida defeats Guerreros, Valiente versus Mephisto

CMLL (TUE) 04/22/2014 Arena México [@drluchajr, @tkd_117, CMLL]
1) Cholo & Inquisidor b Bengala & Robin Bengala & Robin vs Cholo & Inquisidor, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
2) Mercurio, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito b Angelito, Fantasy, Stukita Angelito, Fantasy, Stukita vs Mercurio, Pequeno Warrior, Pierrothito, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
3) Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Syuri b Amapola, La Seductora, Mima Shimoda Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Syuri vs Amapola, La Seductora, Zeuxis, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Mima Shimoda replaced Zeuxis. This was here first match in the building since June (which was for Toryumon Mexico; first match in CMLL since May.)
4) Soberano Jr. b Hechicero [En Busca de un Idolo] Hechicero vs Soberano Jr. in a En Busca de un Idolo match, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Maximo was guest judge, while Dragon Rojo continued to fill in for Shocker. Soberano J.r with a heel hold in 7:39. Soberano Jr. scored 9, 8, 7, 4. Hechicero scored a 9, 8, 7, 8
5) Súper Halcón Jr. b Star Jr. [En Busca de un Idolo] Super Halcon Jr. vs Star Jr. in a En Busca de un Idolo match, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Super Halcon won with a moonsault in 6:47. Super Halcon scored 7, 6, 7 and 2. Star Jr. scored a 8, 7, 7, 5.
6) Marco Corleone, Stuka Jr., Tritón b Terrible, Tiger, Vangellys
7) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. b Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero
Tecnicos took 2/3, Delta & Maya beating Gran Guerrero & Niebla Roja.

I have not seen this show yet, but the Soberano/Hechicero match sounded good on Twitter. Hechicero should be up more than 50 points on the second place if the poll numbers work out the way they have. That puts him on a pace clinch first place before the final week of this competition.

CMLL (TUE) 04/22/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) El Divino & Virgo b Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
Truenos took 1/3.
2) Magnus & Stigma b Acertijo & Sádico
Tecnicos took 1/3.
3) Arkángel de la Muerte, Kamaitachi, Shigeo Okumura b Gallo, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
Rudos took 1/3, Arkangel fouling Gallo and getting way with it. Arkangel demanded a rematch for the FULL Championship.
4) Black Panther, Diamante Azul, Sagrado b Mr. Águila, Ráfaga, Ripper
Tecnicos took 2/3.
5) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Valiente b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
Tecnicos took 2/3. Mephisto pulled Valiente’s mask for the DQ in the second, Valiente submitted him in the third. Valiente challenged Mephisto to a title match next week.

Main event guys got their title match, not so much for Arkangel/Gallo.

Footage of the AYM cameraman getting taken out in IWRG. In true AYM form, they never switched or showed a replay from his camera, so he was knocked out filming a match for no particular reason. It’s also a really a run of the mill roll out of the ring that gets the camera person, something he was watching the entire way, something he should’ve easily escaped. It was almost like a ref bump, but it didn’t factor into the match anyway – Super Nova and Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. just did their dive spot on that side of the ring anyway.

LuchaWorld has a recap of this past week’s Tercera Caida.

Tercera Caida has a new short interview channel on YouTube, +LuchaTV. They’ve posted interviews with Blue Demon (re: Chessman) and Satanico and Dandy talking about their match this weekend. Tercera Caida airs tonight at 9.

Segunda Caida reviews Centella de Oro, Asturiano, Lestar versus Policeman, Toro Bill Jr. and Toro Bill Sr. from 2009 and Sombra, Mistico, Triton versus Averno, Mephisto and Puma from earlier this month.

We clearly need a Primera Caida site to fill out the sequence.

ChilangaMask promo for this weekend’s show.

R de Rudo wonders about a Cibernetico versus Perro Aguayo rematch.

There’s a lucha film festival this weekend in Mexico City, with a Black Terry versus Guerrero Maya Jr. tag match on Sunday.

Video of Mascara Dorada in Taiwan, and Volador versus Averno from Arena el Angel.

Super Fly still plans on destroying the Cadetes.

Intocable is a new father.

Lineup

CMLL (TUE) 04/29/2014 Arena México
1) Bengala & Magnus vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Aéreo, Bam Bam, Stukita vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior
3) Hombre Bala Jr., Pegasso, Stigma vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Sangre Azteca
4) Dragon Lee vs Cavernario [En Busca de un Idolo]
5) Cachorro vs Guerrero Negro Jr. [En Busca de un Idolo]
6) Fuego, Máximo, Sagrado vs Felino, Puma, Tiger
7) La Sombra, Titán, Tritón vs Boby Zavala, Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpión

Titan & Triton reunited! The Revolucionarios are the official rudo team of Kid’s Day week shows.

Neither Bam Bam nor Pequeno Universo have existed in CMLL for a while, so maybe don’t count on them appearing here.

CMLL (TUE) 04/29/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Leo & Metatrón vs Infierno & Satara
2) Oro Jr. & Starman vs Demonio Rojo & Maléfico
3) La Vaquerita, Lluvia, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Zeuxis
4) Diamante Azul, La Máscara, Stuka Jr. vs Ráfaga, Rey Bucanero, Vangellys
5) Mephisto vs Valiente [MEX LH]
Mephisto is champion. 7th defense.
6) Mistico, Rush, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero

Mephisto versus Valiente should be quite a bit better than Mephisto versus Mr. Aguila. It’s unlikely to make TV but I hope it does; Valiente so rarely gets a singles title match.

Toryumon Mexico (SUN) 05/11/2014 Arena México
***DragonMania***
1) Golden Xplotion, Goshart, Leopardo vs Castor Negro, Coyote, Kilvan
2) Astral, Eléctrico, Shockercito vs Demus 3:16, Krator, Pequeño Nitro
3) Baby Star, Diosa Atenea, Mystique vs Io Shirai, Kairi Hojo, Mayu Iwayani
4) Magnus vs Brazo de Platino, Patan, Loco Max, Akuma, Grako, Latino, Chavo Lomeli, Piel Roja, Hijo del Signo, Coco Verde, Douki [dragon rumble]
5) Super Ciudadano vs Yoruba [mask, hair]
6) Akebono & Brazo de Plata vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Gran Guerrero, Rey Bucanero
7) Último Dragón vs Tigre Ali, Rob Rage, Último Guerrero, Veneno, Prince Of Aestethic [Copa Mundial de Lucha Libre]

Usual bizarre DragonMania show. Main event gimmick is six guys from six different countries. Tigre Ali represents Iran (but appears to be from England and crossed paths with Dragon in Michounku Pro.) Rob Rage is not the WCW fellow, but someone representing US who appears to wrestle more in Canada. Prince of Aestethic is probably someone’s nicknamed; he’s listed as Canadian here, but I can’t find anyone by that name.

Tercera gives away the finish to the Io Shirai/Alpha Female title match, but I don’t think that was much of a mystery. Akebono canceled all the rest of his AJPW matches on this tour and is in the hospital with pneumonia, so he’s probably no sure thing for this show

CMLL Guerreros del Ring on 52MX: 2014-03-29

recap

taped 2014-03-18 @ Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
Gallo, Leo, Starman vs Camorra, Sádico, Shigeo Okumura: Sadico, as lesser Guadalajara Eterno, was more interesting than Leo in the battle of random Guadalajara youngsters. I couldn’t tell why the Camorra/Leo feud was happening based on the results and I’m even less sure watching the matches. Referee had no idea what Okumura was doing at the end; neither did I.

Maximo tope

aped 2014-03-23 @ Arena Coliseo
La Sombra, Super Porky, Valiente vs Felino, Olímpico, Ripper: Lots of Super Porky comedy, not a lot of much else. Sombra seemed to exert more energy reacting to things from the apron than actually wrestling for portions of this match. Ripper lost by failed bodyslam, is supposed to be someone on Volador’s level. Olímpico is still so upset about Sombra unmasking him that as soon as they got in together in the third fall, Olímpico just went to pose. That unmasking was just a thing that happened, much like this match.

Scorpion King treated rudely

Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone, Máximo vs Averno, Pólvora, Rey Escorpión: Straight build up to a hair match which may eventually be happening. Escorpion & Máximo feuding left two of the smaller rudos fighting two of the taller técnicos, not a great mix for action for the first two falls. It got better in the third fall and was probably the best match on the show, but it was not a memorable show.

Blue Center takes Espiritu Maligno’s hair, Arena Mexico preview

CMLL (MON) 04/21/2014 Arena Puebla [Periodico Enfoque, Porra Fresa]
1) Black Tiger, Leono, Tigre Rojo Jr. b Espanto Jr., Fuerza Chicana, King Jaguar
Leono beat Fuerza.
2) Dark Angel, Estrellita, Syuri b Amapola, La Comandante, Tiffany
3) La Máscara, Stigma, Stuka Jr. DQ Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
Tecnicos took 1/3. Rey Escorpion, who previously beat Mascara by pulling his mask, was caught this time for the DQ.
4) Espíritu Maligno L Asturiano, Blue Center [mask, hair]
Asturiano won his way out of the match first. Espiritu made a mistake, and Blue Center beat him for his hair.
5) Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero b La Sombra, Mistico, Valiente
UG beat Mistico.

Biggest winner in Blue Center’s career; his first known apuesta after 25 years. The semifinal outcome leaves Asturiano and Blue Center open for another apuesta match this year – maybe in July for the local Anniversary show.

Porra Fresa wrote on Facebook that the building was 90% full and 2,500 people in it. As noted in the video post, Puebla TV is way behind, so it’s not as though fans in Puebla have been watching the mask vs mask vs hair feud develop. There was no “Anniversario” or “Dos Leyendas” title attached to the show. The fans in Puebla are just found the lineup and realized that three way match (because there’s nothing else noteworthy here) was a really important match to go see.

As with the other CMLL rings, Puebla had the new red mat. It should be in Arena Coliseo this Sunday.

Tonight’s Arena Mexico show has the Reyes del Atlantida versus the Guerreros (who are Gran, Ultimo and Roja tonight.) If they’re setting up something, and who knows, there’s the material for a trios title match to headline next Tuesday’s Kid’s Day show. The first five matches should air on Terra, including Week 3 En Busca de un Idolo matches Super Halcon Jr. versus Star Jr. and Hechicero versus Soberano Junior. Every Hechicero match in this tournament has been interesting and Soberano is in the subset of participants who might also make the final. (Cavernario, Cachorro, Soberano, Dragon Lee and Star Jr. are battling for that second spot, and Guerrero Negro Jr. & Super Halcon Jr. are battling not to be last.) The show has Syuri’s last match in this tour, a minis match, and the opener tag team of Inquisidor and Cholo hoping to do better than Sunday’s match. I’m otherwise occupied tonight, so no live results here and those videos may not turn up until Wednesday.

Juventued Guerrera says he’s still got a contract with AAA and still is recovering from a foot injury. Something doesn’t quite add up with him.

Rob has highlights of late January/early February 2001.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and this week’s PosterMania. Alfredo found the actual Puebla poster!

Pentagon Jr. and Sexy Star brag about their new championship. Sexy explains she invented a never before seen hold to beat Faby Apache.

Amapola says 2013 wasn’t great for her, but 2014 is starting much better.

Rey Escorpion is ready for the hair match with Maximo.

Diario Basta has an interview with El Dandy & Satanico about Sunday’s match.

El Dorado Jr. talks about making his ChilangaMask debut this weekend. He notes his father (El Dorado!) had a match teaming with Atlantis & Stuka against Talisman, Fuerza Guerrera and El Dandy that was called the best match of 1985 and he’s been a fan of Dandy for a long time, so it’s special honor to be on his retirement show.

DTU vignette introducing Los Nerds.

An article about new Xalapa promotion Independencia Total, the local group who brought in AAA last Friday. Corsario de Fuego is running the group, and they announced AAA would be back on 05/30.

DJ Spectro looks back at MS-1 and El Jalisco.

Tajiri’s blog has an article about Syuri’s week in Mexico.

Lucha Libre in England

Aerostar heads to Sittingbourne on 05/25 to face Will Ospreay for Revolution Pro Wrestling. That also means Aerostar is surely missing the 05/24 AAA taping in Tuxtla Gutierrez.

Lineup

CMLL (MON) 04/28/2014 Arena Puebla
1) Águila Egipcia, Black Tiger, Paris vs Artillero, El Rebelde, Súper Comando
2) Asturiano, Metálico, Sensei vs Ares, Espíritu Maligno, Siki Ozama Jr.
3) Delta, Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Boby Zavala, Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora
4) La Máscara vs Rey Escorpión [lightning]
5) Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone, Rush vs Negro Casas, Ripper, Shocker

Only five matches and one lightning match means this might be a quick card. Semimain is follow up to last week, and possibly setting up a title match next week.

04/15-20 lucha videos

I missed the first couple falls of the Puebla opener, then the feed died twice during the main event. I got what I got. They’re well behind because of the repeat week (or maybe 2?), enough so that they may end up skipping weeks soon.

Super Nova is champion. He was dressed in a Batman outfit. Hijo de Mascara wiped out a TV cameraperson while getting thrown out of the ring but came back to take the first fall. Nova took the second. Mascara accidentally fouled the ref in the third, and Nova used the distraction to foul Mascara and win. first defense.

Fuego won the title back in October from Cavernario, defends it for the first time against Cavernario’s brother. Fuego doesn’t end up here enough to be champion, so a title change seems possible.

Faby Apache & Drago came in as champions. Described as first pinfall wins and Sexy submitted Faby for the win. Sexy & Pentagon are the 13rd champions. Drago/Faby fall on second defense (they defended it off TV a couple weekends ago.)
5) Blue Demon Jr. b Villano IV
Another bloody Villano IV match, but another loss. Demon won, then bad mouthed Chessman as part of his challenge. Chessman did not accept, but said such a match would be the end of Demon.
6) Cibernético, La Parka, Psycho Clown b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hijo del Fantasma, Texano Jr.
Dave the Clown or someone posing as Dave the Clown attacked Psycho Clown on the way to the ring. It’s unclear if this was meant to be an angle. Psycho defeated Texano with the Destroyer. Rudos immediately all attacked the tecnicos (and Faby) as normal, with Monster and Murder Clown making the save.

Air Date: 04/26, 05/03.

The Dave the Clown bit is not mentioned in the recap, but you can currently see Dave in the pictures on AAA’s site. He’s in gear and appears to be coming from backstage, but it also appears security is already going to cut him off. Maybe it’ll make more sense when it airs (or if it’s cut.)

Juventued Guerrera formed La Anarquia as a response to being replaced as leader of Mexican Powers (when he happened to be out of the promotion for a couple years.) History repeated itself! This seemed like Juvi being written out of existence, though I’m less sure what exactly happened this time. Juvi will be back, because Juvi always ends up coming back, but hopefully we’ll get a good story about it in the upcoming days.

Daga & Steve Pain were already announced as facing Angelico & Jack on 05/02, so this change in leadership had to be planned for a little while. This also leaves the Perros del Mal down to Perro Jr., Psicosis, Black Warrior and Taya, though the distinctions between rudo groups do not mean a whole lot at this point. Anarquia hasn’t been treated as a big deal, but it’s much better for Daga to be the top guy in that group than just another Perro.

The opener was added after the fact, so maybe they didn’t just plan on Eterno working this day originally, but it looks weird to have La Anarquia member Eterno replaced in his own trio by very-part-timer Hijo del Pirata Morgan. (Or maybe Pirata’s also ending up in the group? That would be fine, not sure if that is happening. Pirates are pretty much anarchists anyway.)

Fenix wasn’t on this show, but mentioned being in the crowd to watch the show with friends and family. That probably should’ve been a hint about how the title match was going to turn out. Really cool to see Pentagon Jr. to get the recognition of winning a championship; he’s always been very good, but he’s been fantastic this year. The women/mixed titles are almost always going to bounce around between Mary, Faby and Sexy, but AAA could’ve picked any rudo to pick with Sexy Star and they chose the best one.

This is good booking. This is good booking. (I thought I needed to write that twice in case you weren’t sure what you read.) There’s stuff on the top that doesn’t appear to me, but they’re setting up good matches in the middle int he meantime and the best guy in the promotion got a big win.
