Maximo/Escorpion, En Busca de un Idolo

Tonight’s CMLL main event is based around Maximo versus Rey Escorpion, a feud I forgot was still going. Rey Escorpion might have forget too, as he’s been busy feuding with Sombra and Mascara. Semimain is Dorada, Valiente and Titan versus Ripper, Kraneo and Mephisto in a showcase for the tecnicos.

Tonight’s En Busca de un Idolo matches, one spot (and 20 minutes) earlier than normal are Cachorro vs Super Halcon Jr. and Soberano vs Barbaro Cavernario. Both Cachorro & Soberano need wins. Soberano has tougher competition, but it would see like Super Halcon Jr. is the toughest to score judging points against since his own boring matches would drag down his opponents. That turns out to be almost true.

Average Judging Points AGAINST
31.2 Cachorro
30.3 Soberano Jr.
29.7 Dragon Lee
29.3 Star Jr.
28.5 Cavernario
28.2 Hechicero
28.2 Super Halcon Jr.
26.2 Guerrero Negro Jr.

This means those who faced Star Jr. get an average of 29 points from the judges. I am as surprised as you to see Hechicero and Cavernario so low. Cachorro on top means his match versus Super Halcon Jr. tonight should be beloved by the judges, or Halcon will drag Cachorro more towards the middle.

This week’s poll numbers aren’t final yet, but Hechicero is on the way to winning 40 points again. Dragon Lee is second and Star Jr. is fourth, so Lee should slip ahead of Star for fourth overall once the final numbers are in. Dragon Lee has a good chance to move all the way to third.

LuchaWorld has a recap of this week’s Tercera Caida.

DJ Spectro looks back at El Solitario winning the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship and Hermano Muerte II’s apuesta record.

Segunda Caida watches Valiente vs Negro Casas.

Hijo del Pantera is on a series of Wrestle-1 shows starting next week.

Terrible is keeping his eye on Guerrero Negro Jr.

Nino Hamburugesa talks about his upcoming matches with his old DTU friends (since his current DTU friends are off actually wrestling on DTU shows.)

Axel is still very angry with Hijo del Santo.

box.

== AAA ==

AAA-Televisa: The preview reveals the top 3 matches will air on TV, which means Bengala’s match isn’t cut this week. Three matches is less than usual. The show is still listed as 90 minutes, so I’m not sure why it’s only three. One or both the undercard matches could show up on UTDN.

== CMLL ==

FOX: At 1pm this week. Atlantis vs Ultimo Guerrero, Marco/Titan/Valiente vs Rojo/Ephesto/Mephisto.

52MX: Last week was 2/3/4. That would include a Azul/Rafaga title match and Black Panther & Cachorro vs Tiger & Puma tag match this week.

Claro: Last week here was top 3, and assuming that going forward. Sombra vs Rey Escorpion.

C3: Atlantida vs Guerreros and Zavala/Ephesto/Terrible vs Cometa/Panther/Fuego are the two unaired matches.

TVC Deportes (Puebla): Show listed at 8pm this week, giving you enough time to eat a meal and stretch your legs after Sunday’s Terra show. Rey Escorpion vs La Mascara in a title match, Puebla vs Gen14 cibernetico with Hechicero.

Lucha Azteca: The Odiosos vs Peste Negra/Ripper brawl.

Terra Friday: A shorter show than usual, only the first four matches are lined up to air. There’s another Sugehit/Blanca match, and En Busca matches with Cavernario/Soberano and Cachorro/Super Halcon Jr.

Terra Sunday: Mascara Dorada, Volador and Valiente vs Rush, Sombra and La Mascara. Also, more Zayco/Magnus

Terra Tuesday: Metalico and Oro Jr. on opposite sides, and the final week of this round of En Busca de un Idolo wraps up with

This looks like the final Tuesday broadcast for the time being.

== Other ==

Noches de Coliseo: Super Jack? Probably Super Jack.

IWRG (LAS/AYM): They’ve already started airing last Sunday’s show, so that should turn up in full this weekend with Demon Clown and Dr. Wagner. On AYM, the full airing of the show is now Saturday afternoon; the late Sunday airing is LAS only.

Gringos VIP keep the trios titles, DTU tour

Black Terry Jr.

IWRG (WED) 05/14/2014 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), The Gladiatores]
1) Zurdog b Black Niko
2) Electro Boy & Fulgor II b Alfa & Omega
3) Ángel Del Amor, Golden Magic, Látigo b Fulgor, Hijo De La Bestia, Imposible
Hijo de la Bestia had a falling out with his partners.
4) Oficial AK47 b Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 [super libre]
AK47 took 1/3 and demanded a shot at the Rey de Reyes title. Hijo del Pirata Morgan is getting a shot first, on Sunday.
5) Apolo Estrada Jr., Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo b Alan Extreme, Relámpago, Veneno [EdM Trios]
Gringos VIP are champions and kept the titles by taking fall 1/3. Third defense. Gringos want a shot at the tag team titles.

Again, they’re back to the blue mats on Wednesday. They must only be sponsored on Sundays.

Furia de Titanes and Medio Tempo have articles on DTU’s press conference. Their tour is five shows, 05/16 (Arena Queretaro), 05/17 (Arena Roberto Paz in Guadalajara), 05/20 (Arena Aficion in Pachuca), 05/24 (Deportivo Pavon, DF) and 05/25 (Poza Rica.) No home show in Tulancingo. All the lineups are as announced – except at the press conference, Flamita announced his 05/20 match with Shane Strickland, Kaleth and Drastick Boy will now be for the Open the Brave Gate championship. (I guess Drastick Boy gave away the surprise.) DTU’s also pushing having different divisions strongly: Extermos, Alto Impacto, DTU Chicas (previously Femenil) are familiar, Nexo is for tag teams and Suicida is for flyers where no objects can be used and wins must only be by pinfall.

This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter believes the mystery people on the upcoming AAA tapings are Averno and Bengala (not Sin Cara.)

Rob has highlights of late May to early June 2001.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and recaps the week 6 of En Busca de un Idolo.

Tercera Caida has Princesa Sugehit as guest. They’ve also posted a nine minute after the show video.

CMLL has a story on Mascara Dorada’s next trip to NJPW, announced for May 22 to June 8th. A Mascara Dorada card is being added to the NJPW playing card game.

Metalico says he’s not a rudo, he’s just moody. My gosh, I’m actually Metalico. Metalico insists Oro Jr. will not make a name off of him and so has no interested in the mask match right now. Note they still think the injury happened in Copa Junior.

Informador has an article about the lucha libre bus that takes people to Arena Coliseo Guadalajara. This one predates the Mexico City TuriLuchas program, and includes a free beer with the package. It’s a bar who organizes it.

R de Rudo has video a four way tag match from the WMC show.

Kcidis celebrates maestros and puts some of his artwork for sale.

Furia de Titanes interviews Halcon 2000, who’s the Humo Lightweight champion. Humo seems to be using a lot of the people who were working for IWL, even the same guy who was making the posters and IWL hasn’t been heard from quite a while (one show announced for March, have to go back to December before that.) I’m not sure if IWL is gone, but it seems like it’s been replaced.

Guerreros vs Atlantida, Volador/Escorpion, AAA in Chiapas

Barbaro Cavernario & Guerrero Negro/Terra

CMLL (TUE) 05/13/2014 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Violencia b Acero & Fantasy Acero & Fantasy vs Pequeno Nitro & Pequeno Violencia, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Rudos took 2/3.
2) Canelo Casas, Disturbio, El Rebelde b Metálico, Oro Jr., Stigma Metalico, Oro Jr., Stigma vs Canelo Casas, Disturbio, El Rebelde, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Straight falls. Metalico wouldn’t let Stigma tag Oro when Oro was in trouble, Oro accidentally dropkicked Metalico, and Metalico attacked Oro Jr. to cause the loss. Metalico beat up Oro and Stigma after the match and Oro was strechered out.
3) Estrellita, Marcela, Skadi b Dalys, La Comandante, Zeuxis Estrellita, Marcela, Skadi vs Dalys, La Comandante, Zeuxis, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Tecnicos took 1/3, Marcela beat Dalys. Skadi knocked herself with on diving headscissors to the floor on Zeuxis.
4) Cavernario COR Guerrero Negro Jr. [En Busca de un Idolo] Cavernario vs Guerrero Negro Jr. in a En Busca de un Idolo match, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Cavernario won after a suplex from the ring to the floor and top rope splash to the floor. Guest judge was Mephisto and Atlantis replaced Shocker. Cavernario scored a 7 (Mephisto), 9 (Atlantis), 8 (Mr. Niebla) and 8 (Tirantes.) Guerrero Negro scored a 7, 8, 8, and 7.
5) Dragon Lee b Súper Halcón Jr. [En Busca de un Idolo] Dragon Lee vs Super Halcon Jr. in a En Busca de un Idolo match, on DailyMotion (posted by thecubsfan)
Lee beat Super Halcon with the Power-plex in 7:17. Dragon Lee scored a 9, 9, 9, 6. Super Halcon scored a 8, 9, 7, 5.
6) Boby Zavala, Ephesto, Terrible b Blue Panther, Fuego, Rey Cometa
7) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. b Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero
Tecnicos took 2/3, all the tecnicos putting all the rudos in Atlantidas at the end. Tecnicos challenged for a world trios shot. UG was still focused on the mask match, but Euforia accepted for the team.

Cavernario is a crazy man but Guerrero Negro is equally lunatic. I don’t think he’s leaving CMLL!

I sure hope the top four places matter, or this is over. Cachorro, Star Jr., Dragon Lee and Soberano could end up in any order depending on fan and judges voting. Any of them not winning in Week 7 could also be catastrophic for their chances, but none of them face each other in the final week so it’s possible for CMLL to balance that out. All four would be deserving of making any semifinal round. All four would be tremendous underdogs to Cavernario & Hechicero.

The Guerreros will probably keep the trios titles, but the title match should be a very good match either way.

CMLL (TUE) 05/13/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl]
1) Demonio Rojo & Sádico b El Divino & Virgo
Rudos took 2/3.
2) Artillero & Súper Comando b Black Metal & Leo
Rudos took 2/3.
3) Black Panther, Stuka Jr., Tritón b Kamaitachi, Magnum, Shigeo Okumura
Tecnicos took 2/3.
4) Gallo TLDRAW Sangre Azteca [lightning]
10 minute time limit draw! Sangre Azteca may have made challenges for Gallo’s title.
5) Puma & Tiger b Metatrón & Sagrado and Sky Kid & Smaker and El Cuatrero & Sansón
A four way (not a tournament.) Puma defeated Sky Kid, Sagrado defeated Sanson, and Tiger & Puma defeated Metatron & Sagrado for the win.
6) Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión b Máscara Dorada, Titán, Volador Jr.
Rudos took 2/3, listed as Rey Escorpion sneaking a foul on Dorada.

Next week’s main event is listed as Volador/Escorpion and there’s a picture of Escorpion pinning Volador, so the main event pinfall result might have been listed incorrectly. Or plans changed.

The Sangre Azteca/Gallo time limit draw was the first in a main CMLL since July 28th (Angel de Oro/Puma.)

AAA held it’s usual local press conference to hype their upcoming tapings, for both Tapachula and Tuxtla Guiterrez. Both are unusual locales for AAA, and it turns out they’re both shows sponsored by the Chiapas state government. Tickets for the Tapachula taping (and probably the Tuxtla show, though it’s not as clear) are free and will be given away by sponsors or in front of the arena on the day of the show. They’ve got room for 3500 fans and should easily fill those seats. In exchange, AAA will air tourism promos on their TV show like has been done for Guerrero Negro and Tepic. This is a deal only AAA is in a position to make because they’re on Televisa and those tourism ads can reach more people.

This also explain the deal with keeping the mystery people a mystery. AAA’s not going to sell any more tickets by advertising them because the tickets are already sold. And, if something falls thru, there’s no one who paid believing they would see Averno or Sin Cara since no one is paying.

Flamita will be defending the Dragon Gate Enter the Brave Gate championship on 05/20 in Arena Aficion after all. Drastick Boy – who will be challenging for the title with Kaleth & Shane Strickland – had said it would be a title match, then it wasn’t listed as one on the poster for the show, but they announced the title would be the on the line at a press conference for the DTU tour last night.

LuchaWorld has five idea on how to replace Averno in the Hijos del Averno.

This week’s SuperLuchas #524 covers the MaskedMania show.

The 05/25 WMC show has a main event of Ultimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero and Virus versus Black Terry, Hijo del Fishman and Canek Jr.

DJ Spectro writes about the debut of Septiembre Negro. I thought the bit last night where Oro Jr. went into a post match seizure in a deliberate attempt to reference his uncle’s death in the ring was in terrible taste and would be a runaway winner for most disgusting moment in wrestling of the year if it happened in the United State. (To their credit, the announcers did not call much attention to it.) At the same time, it’s one of those things that Mexico has very different attitudes about , just like the Septiembre Negro character.

CMLL has an article about Amapola & La Comandante heading to REINA. They mention it’s 05/22 and say it’s a tour (not a single show), but don’t list a return date.

Segunda Caida reviews Marco Corleone, Máximo, Rush vs Felino, Negro Casas, Shocker.

Kcidis has opened a web store.

Multichannel news story on the El Rayo de la Vida show. Calling Rayo de Plata one of Mexico’s best known wrestlers is quite a stretch.

Best stipulation: loser of this main event gets hit by water balloons by the fans.

Kraeno & Mije video interview – or just read the text, where they say AAA is now garbage without them and joining CMLL is like going to college.

Mascarita Sagrada talks about the next couple AAA tapings.

CMLL promo for this Friday’s show.

Lineup

1) Astro Rey Jr. & Látigo vs Electro Boy & Zurdog
2) Alan Extreme, Golden Magic, Metaleon vs Guerrero Mixtico, Hip Hop Man, Orión

4) Hijo De Dos Caras, Súper Nova, Toscano vs Demon Clown, Eterno, X-Fly
5) Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan [IWRG Rey del Ring]
Hijo de Mascara Ano 2000 is champion, first defense.

Second match is Naucalpan versus Neza.

CMLL (TUE) 05/20/2014 Arena México
1) Metatrón & Sensei vs Espanto Jr. & Zayco
2) Goya Kong, La Vaquerita, Silueta vs La Comandante, La Seductora, Princesa Blanca
3) Black Panther, Oro Jr., Starman vs Disturbio, Hooligan, Metálico
4) Dragon Lee vs Hechicero [En Busca de un Idolo]
5) Star Jr. vs Guerrero Negro Jr. [En Busca de un Idolo]
6) Diamante Azul, Máscara Dorada, Rey Cometa vs Puma, Terrible, Tiger
7) Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero vs Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. [CMLL TRIOS]
Guerreros are champions. First defense.

Semimain should be really good, and is Dorada’s last match here for the time being.

Those are the last two En Busca de un Idolo matches for this round. Polling usually closes quickly after so they can work out the Friday mid tournament trios match.

Metalico’s officially on the rudo side. It’s the same length of time as the Princesa Sugheit turn; they’re moving faster nowadays.

CMLL (TUE) 05/20/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Esfinge & Leo vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
2) Black Metal, Magnus, Stigma vs Canelo Casas, Demonio Maya, Skándalo
3) Dark Angel, Estrellita, Lluvia vs Amapola, Tiffany, Zeuxis
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Valiente vs Cavernario, Herodes Jr., Rey Bucanero
5) Volador Jr. vs Rey Escorpión

It’s too early to be sure of the new Guerreros del Ring airing pattern, but the main event would not be shown (on 5/31) based on the first week.
