Lider loses hair to Nicho, Valiente retains title, Hooligan, IWL

AAA (SUN) 08/15 Auditorio de Tijuana [DJ Spectro, The Gladiatores]
1) Pensamiento Negro II b Flecha Roja
2) Galeno & Maquiavélico b Cholo (TJ) & Zaeta
3) Hijo de Kendo & Super Kendo b Espectro II Jr. & Star Boy
4) Principe Arandu & TJ Boy b Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario [relevos suicidas]
5) Nicho el Millionario b Joe Lider [hair]
6) La Parka Jr. b LA Park

4/5 was a surprise; everyone was expecting the locals to lose and face off. Copetes was ref and helped the locals win. Nicho and Lider were forced to fight. Lider put Nicho thru a table and the match was stopped because the doctor was concerned about Nicho. Nicho was taken to the back, but came back, got DDTed, and kicked out. Lider ended up backdropped thru another table for the win.

Crowd was not a fan of the main event. Parka and Park exchanged fouls, with Parka getting away with one for the win.

CMLL (MON) 08/16 Arena Puebla [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Espiritu Maligno, Karisma, Mr. Rafaga b Asturiano, Blue Center, Milenium
2) Arkángel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Hooligan b Ángel Azteca Jr., Pegasso, Sensei
3) Delta, Rush, Sagrado b Euforia, Misterioso II, Pólvora
4) Valiente b Dragón Rojo Jr. [MEX WELTER]
5) Averno, Mephisto, Volador Jr. b La Sombra, Máximo, Rotoporky

Rudos cheated to win, and beat up the tecnicos after the match. Volador took Sombra’s mask after the match. Sombra demanded a one on one match, but Volador said now.

Valiente retained the title. Eight title match loses in a row for Dragon Rojo.

No Anniversary lineup yesterday.

Today’s the second part of the minis bicentennial cibernetico. Bam Bam is the heavy favorite.

Ratings
AAA:  4.5 – up 0.4
CMLL: 4.1 – up 1.6, highest number since the day after Dos Leyendas
Lucha Libre USA: 0.06 – down 0.06, lowest number so far; coincidentally (or not), they’re looking for info about when/where you watch this show on Twitter.

CMLL’s added Metal Blanco (c) vs Angel del Mal for the Ocicdente Welterweight Championship to this Sunday.

El Siglo de Torreon has a good interview with Hooligan. When he and Ultimo Guerrero came to Mexico City, they were so poor that they couldn’t afford to buy gear, so they got a job with a costumer (El Pony from Monterrey) and lived there. Hooligan discovered an aptitude for sewing, and today is a mask and costume designed of his own. His son, Ultimo Rebelde, works with him, and his work is sold in the US and Japan.

CMLL pulled Mr. Aguila from IWL’s show Thursday This is not surprising; Aguila apparently agreed to work here when he was in Perros del Mal, and CMLL isn’t going to let him work on a show with people who are still in the Perros now. (IWL says CMLL pulled Aguila because CMLL is boring.) The Jerry Lynn vs Mr. Aguila match is now Halloween vs X-Fly. Also, Damian 666 hypes his match with Val Venis (the guy they had listed as “Paul Dennis” – still do, actually) and says to go to Arena Naucalpan if you like the same vs the same, since they’re doing a dream match.

Ovaciones has an interview with Gallo Tapado Jr., who says he’s leading a new promotion built around juniors. Wrestlers announced include: Carta Brava Jr., Halcon Jr., Hijo de Rambo, Tatu el Brujo, Arana de Morelos Jr., Dr. Karonte Jr., Artuo Gaona Jr., Hijo de Climas, Kung Fu Jr., Hijo de Fishman, Hijo de Canek, Scorpio Jr., Ultraman Jr., Hijo de Cien Caras. Probably not a one who’s going to mean much. They’ve got three shows announced, starting 09/04 in Tepalcapa.

CMLLPekes.com, the kid’s website CMLL has been promoting on it’s TV show (and often mispelling) is down. They’ve set up a blog in the meantime, with profiles of Sangre Azteca, Stuka Jr., and Mistico (where we learn IWRG is a promotion in Japan.)

Arena Azteca Budokan was filled for it’s 49th anniversary show.

Hijo del el Espanto II retained the North Light Heavyweight Championship over Black Soul.

Box Y Lucha #2987 has Lyger & Wagner on the cover. Inside, there’s a mention of Nitro feeling forgotten in CMLL.

Cronicas Y Leyendas looks back at Konnan in el Toreo.

Rob looks at this week’s CMLL lineups.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

  1. “IWL says CMLL pulled Aguila because CMLL is boring”

i laughed so hard when i read this.

is that dragon rojos gimmick now? just lose all the title matches possible

  2. What does it say when Lider loses his hair on a non-televised spot show?

I wonder if Dorian was even told?

  3. @LLL: @Daniel

While I agree Lider probably didn’t have a very costly scalp, it makes you wonder how a spot show promoter in TJ could pony up enough $$$$ to get that done, yet when they build towards a match like that on tv, no one actually takes the haircut.

  4. I like that Lider lost his hair here, it breaks it up from it being predictable that the locals were going to lose. I’m all for it, and considering that its really about selling tickets at the arena since it was untelevised.

If you missed the show you regret not going if you are from the area but certainly wouldn’t miss the next one, and if you were there then you certainly got more than you bargained for.

  5. I think any time a guy who wrestles for a major league like AAA or CMLL loses his hair or mask it should be done on television where a much larger audience could see it.

Joe LIder is a guy who very few people care about so this isn’t that big of a deal, but two years ago when Electroshock lost his hair in a non-televised event that was just stupid.

  6. @Daniel: @Chris:
I totally think it is awesome that he DID lose his hair here, for the exact reasons that you said Chris.
What blows my mind is that AAA, a touring promotion built around TV, has not had a stip match of any *real* value (since Apache/Billy) that they honored the stip for, and here they have Joe Lider lose his hair on a spot show. Joe Lider who was just one of their tag champs for how long? Sure, he is probably the equivalent of Porky losing his hair, but it makes no sense for *AAA* to not show this on tv.
CMLL is all about the gate, so it makes sense when they do it.

  7. I don’t think it’s silly that Joe Lider lost his hair in Tijuana.

I do think it’s silly that there wasn’t a single mention of the upcoming match on TV even though it’s been known for at least 2 weeks now. Probably longer internally. Would it really have killed them to include the Tijuana date during Noti AAA and mentioned the hair match? When Latin/Garza did their hair match in ’03 it was hyped for weeks on TV and drew a monster house. (I know they’re bigger stars but still…)

  8. @ROB

Latin Lover vs Hector Garza happened at a non-televised event but AAA did promote it on TV and they showed the highlights of the match on TV.

  9. @Daniel: Highlights are not the same as a full match. So either you’re contradicting yourself (there’s a shocker) or you think Garza and Lover were stupid for doing the match off TV and/or nobody cares about them.

Also, I still can’t believe you haven’t figured out how to reply.

  10. @ROB

I’m not saying it was good that their match wasn’t a televised AAA event, I’m just saying that there was at least an attempt to promote it. Yes showing the full match would have been a lot better than highlights. And neither Garza nor Latin Lover were stupid because they’re not the ones who booked the match.

So, no Rob I”m not contradicting myslef you just missed the point.

And for your information the reply button does not show up on my screen. It used to when Cubs first inroduced it, but for some reason it doesn’t show up anymore.

  11. @DANIEL

So you think Joe Lider and Nicho booked their own match on Friday?

And no, you aren’t saying there wasn’t no attempt to promote it. That was MY point using Lover/Garza as an example. Your original points were:

    1. Losing your hair off TV is stupid.
(“two years ago when Electroshock lost his hair in a non-televised event that was just stupid.”)
    2. Losing your hair off TV proves nobody cares about you.
(“It says that nobody cares about Joe Lider.”)

Don’t steal my arguments and pass them off as yours. You’re not smart enough to pull that off.

  12. @ROB

Again you missed the point. You’re the one who suggested Garza and Lover were stupid for doing it on a non-televised event, and I said that they didn’t book their own match. I’m sure Lider and Nicho didn’t book their own match either.

Rob I know that you’re trying to be the “cool guy” by always attacking my posts and trying to twist everything I say, but I hope you realize that you just end up looking like a geek.
