Mexico, singles matches set up in GDL, ACM

Happy commercially overtaken day designed to sell more alcohol to the 16-39 age group! If I don’t feel lazy tonight, I think I’m headed to Mondo Lucha at Congress. Say hi if you can spot me.

CMLL (TUE) 05/04 Arena Mexico [ESTO, @cmllmagazine]
1) Molotov & Trueno b Inquisidor & Semental
2) Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata, Fuego b Cancerbero, Virus, Virus
3) Bam Bam, Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada b Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
4) Dragón Rojo Jr., Felino, Misterioso II b Blue Panther, Shocker, Volador Jr.
5) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Místico b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Card was dramatically changed from what was announced on Friday. ESTO had the lineup on their website earlier on Tuesday, though their preview about the show and the ad in Ovaciones still had the old lineup. This show was sponsored by Microsoft, as part of a partnership between the two companies to push Internet Explorer 8. The deal includes a CMLL branded version of the IE8 browser, which changes your home page to a secret search page on CMLL.com, though the only special thing I can find there is a few extra pictures. They’re promising more to come.

Maybe someone decided to a more plain, happy show because it was a sponsored show? The relevos match scheduled for the main event was scrapped in favor of moving Volador to the semimain and using standard tecnico/rudo trios. No mention of any Sombra/Mistico issues, and someone decided to give Negro Casas the night off after all. Mistico got UG clean with La Mistico for the main event win.

Mascarita Dorada returned in the minis match to lead his team to the win. The Women’s match was replaced with a standard Angels/Cancerbero match.

CMLL (TUE) 05/04 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) In Memoria b Relampago Azul
2) Magnum & Virgo b Acertijo & Infierno
3) Gallo, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro b Exterminador, Malefico, Mr. Trueno
4) La Máscara b Averno
5) Brazo de Plata, Máximo, Toscano b Asesino Negro, Terrible, Texano

Porky pined Asesino Negro, and the two agreed to a hair match. Averno accepted La Mascara’s challenge for a (NWA) Middlweight championship match after his defeat. No dates were set for either match.

indy (SUN) 05/02 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Lady Maravilla & Lady Puma b Rebelde & Rey Jaguar
2) Chipendale & Spider b Rosa Salvaje & Sexy Maciel
3) Aero Boy, Tigre Universitario, Violento Jack DQ Principe Guerrero, Rey Demonio Jr., Sangre Chicana Jr.
4) Red Flamer b Pancho Tequila [FILL SH]
5) Lover Boy L Simbolo, Golden Boy, Monje Negro Jr., Hator, Estrella Dorada Jr. [hair, cage]

Lover Boy lost his hair to Simbolo. Red Flamer retained the title. DQ was for Violento Jack turning on Aero Boy.

El Supremo, Salvador Cuevas, passed away on Tuesday. He was a star of the 80s, known for his physique. Highlights of his mask loss to Pierroth, the effective end of his career, are on YouTube.

SuperLuchas has quotes from Cuervo, talking about returning to Arena Naucalpan. He says the only guy still there from when he was starting out is Dr. Cerebro. Record adds some additional quotes from the rest of the Dark Family, who say they’ll show AAA has the best luchadors.

Estrellas del Ring talks to Veneno, who has reached 17 years of wrestling.  He was not a fan of that name when CMLL gave it to him, but grew to like it.

Noroeste talks to Culican wrestler Muralla Negra, who says he’s been wrestling for 28 years, and talks about sneaking around the comission to debut at age 18.

Cronicas y Leyendas looks at the last appearance of Andre el Gigante in Mexico.

The Gladiatores has interviews with Kato Kung Lee, el Signo, Gringos VIP, and Supreme.

Segunda Caida returns from a month off with a review of IWRG 09/24/09.

Rob has 3 recommendations of matches/shows to check out this week.

Lucha Libre in South Central.

Lineups

CMLL (SUN) 05/09 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Relampago Azul vs Quca
2) El Divino & Hierro vs Acertijo & Infierno
3) Astaroth vs Ráfaga [tournament, OCCIDENTE LH]
4) Gallo vs Rey Trueno [tournament, OCCIDENTE LH]
5) Metal Blanco & Palacio Negro vs Ephesto & Shigeo Okumura
6) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Toscano vs Negro Casas, Terrible, Texano

Still don’t know how many people are in this tournament (or I guess even if it is a elimination tournament, since they did do league format last year), but I guess we’ll know next week if they’re still doing first round matches.

CMLL (MON) 05/10 Arena Puebla
1) Asturiano, Centella de Oro, Milenium vs Centauro de Fuego, Fuerza Chicana, Toro Bill Sr.
2) Astro Boy, Leono, Metálico vs Durango Kid, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Delta, Diamante, Sensei vs Loco Max, Nitro, Skándalo
4) Hijo del Fantasma vs Psicosis
5) Hiroshi Tanahashi, Místico, Taichi vs La Máscara, Negro Casas, Volador Jr.

What a trio.

At least in Puebla, Fantasma is the defender of CMLL against the rudos independents. I think he’s going to end up paired off with Garza, so I wonder if that’ll fall to Sombra later on.

There’s no better sign of how Leono’s dropped in the eyes of the programmers than Sensei moving past him. Highly unlikely.

  1. Two more new cards, still no sign of a Mr. Niebla comeback.
His “injury” lasts much longer than expected.
