The big story of the day is the Bushi vs Oficial 911 mask match in IWRG tonight, which may tell you all you need to know about the day.

This is pretty close to a 50/50 deal. On the surface, it fits the same form of Rudo Home Team vs Evil Foreigners match CMLL is running tomorrow, but IWRG has often had it’s home team lose when it’s not expected (this may be why there are no stars in IWRG, but that’s another post.) People get masks to promote them in CMLL, and they get masks to lose them dramaticlly in IWRG. Plus, while I still figure Bushi will lose his mask before he goes back home, IWRG runs mask and hair matches more frequently than CMLL; he could have a chance to lose it next week for all we know.

In it’s preview of the match, SuperLuchas touches on the Cerebro Terrible’s title change to Poder Mexica, and says esperemos que regrese el convenio entre ambas empresas y que esta lucah pudiera ocurrir. It’s “expected” that CMLL and IWRG will resume their deal? This seems like news, but it’s passed off like I should’ve known this already.

The Gladiatores should have live coverage on their radio channel.

Octagon tells TelevisaDeportes that he’d like to be as big a legend as El Santo. It’s good to have dreams. To accomplish this, Octagon thinks he needs to be in more movies, but they can’t be movies like Santo was in because no one took them seriously. And yet, he’s still famous. Odd. Also, what serious movie is Octagon going to be in?

News of a Guerreros del Atlantida breakup is Atlantis. Maybe he and Ultimo Guerrero should talk, one of these days. Or maybe UG and CMLL should talk about what storylines they want to get out publicly. Atlantis figures he’ll be on top, as a tecnico or a rudo, so isn’t much worried about it.

Cesar has a recap of Tuesday’s Arena Mexico show.

All you need to know about Blue Demon in one quote: he tells Notimex he thinks he’s making progress in the US because he was ranked #6 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated, “higher than some WWE wrestlers.” Not saying people aren’t willing to buy into it. Also, Perro Jr.’s not getting a title shot at the NWA Heavyweight Title because he’s only a middleweight, but he’d take a mask vs hair match. Demon notes he doesn’t actually like his teammates (Groon, Demon) for the Perros Arena Neza anniversary show, but dislikes his opponents more.

LuchandoLibre says Arena Isabel de Cuernavaca has changed ownership and this month is the last month of shows before it’s torn down. This seems to be the second time this news has gone around this year (the first time was months ago), but maybe there was just a delay in changing ownership over. Not sure where/if CMLL will run monthly shows in Cuernavaca.

DJ Spectro reposts a Box Y Lucha article about the continuing Which Coco Rojo is the legal owner of the name? This’ll never be settled.

  1. When will Octagon ever defend the National Middleweight title?
    I believe it is too late for Octagon to reach the statues of being a legend like El Santo. What he should do is make a public announcement about drinking and driving.

  2. Arena Isabel de Cuernavaca is such a great place for wrestling. I’ve seen so many good matches there.

    FUN FACT: One of the big things that the fans would do there is throw chicken feet at the rudos.

  3. I think Bushi’s streak of being UNSTOPPABLE comes to end tonight, and thus will lose his mask.

  4. Octagon can start in a movie where a down on his luck wrestler turns to the bottle to drown away his misery. He’s constantly partying and not paying attention to his son* who will do anything to help his dad turn his career around. Then one day he meets this gorgeous lady** who he falls in love with and he turns his entire career around. The movie ends with all three holding hands walking down a beach in Acapulco.

    * -> Played by Guapito.
    ** -> Played by Yuriko.

    TWO THUMBS UP!

    Also…

    “The big story of the day is the Bushi vs Oficial 911 mask match in IWRG tonight, which may tell you all you need to know about the day.”

    I would counter by saying this match has more intrigue than anything AAA or CMLL are offering in their respective main events. Both guys have been built up over the past year+, both have had big wins recently and the outcome is in doubt for fans of both wrestlers.

    AAA has the same match they’ve been running all year except with a cage to guarantee interference.

    CMLL has a double hair match with two guys on their way out against the only two unmasked rudos CMLL has available in a feud that started 3 weeks ago and included Vangelis. (sorry Vangelis!)

    I’d even wager the IWRG match will be better.

  5. Oh and of course… I think Bushi is winning.

    HE’S UNSTOPPABLE! DEAL WITH IT!

    I just wonder if they’ll wait a few weeks or months to introduce a new masked Oficial. Maybe the ex-Tortuguillo Ninja II.

  6. @Jake: Yup. Thanks to Azteca, the venue made television a few times too.

    So now it’s one less venue for CMLL’s circuit.

  7. I could be the “N”ot “W”orth “A”nything World Champion too if I paid the NWA for a run with the belt like Blue Demon Jr. did. The ONLY reason Blue Demon Jr. is still champion is because he refuses to drop it to anyone in the United States. So there won’t be a new NWA champion until NWA strips Blue Demon Jr. or until there is a screwjob in a match and Blue Demon Jr. “loses” and NWA stands by it.

  8. CMLL TV note…

    Cadena Tres is airing the telethon all day on Saturday so CMLL is being moved to noon on Sunday with a repeat later that day/early Monday morning at 3am.

  9. While you may be 100% right in your assessment of Demon’s actions as champion, the NWA title isn’t handed out based on cash – its handed out on empty promises based on what the members think will benefit them the most. Back in ’05 or so when I was working for the NWA, Inoki had placed an offer to buy the NWA names and titles, and they turned him down. Then, they end up restructure everything because one member was promising big-time tv exposure and japanese and mexican stars.
    Personally, as someone who gives a shit about the NWA and the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, I hope it stays with Demon for a lot longer.
