CMLL 76th Anniversary Occasionally Live Results (now final)

Hi!

The CMLL show should be underway, and there looks to be at least one site doing actual live results

Going to do start an actual chat, but probably not until we actually get a radio show to listen to. (Radio show feed is mms://63.99.225.140/estadiow but not supposed to broadcasting the show until the final 2.)  Until then, feel free to comment in the comments.

For those who are in Mexico and/or otherwise have access to Televisa Deportes Network, they’ll be going on the air at 10:30 pm to broadcast the semimain the opener. That should be about when the radio picks up as well.

Some more links while we wait:

  • LuchandoLibre says no one’s seen Shocker since Wednesday. Maybe he’s just really sad Mascara Magica lost? (No, probably not.)
  • Cesar previews the top two matches

There are 3 minutes left in UAMGuadalajara vs Morelia, and announcers seem more excited about Mistico/Negro than this game.

Results below these words

Results:
1) Dark Angel & Lady Apache vs Amapola & Hiroka (1-0!)
– this match ended up airing on TDN, not the semimain.
2) Bam Bam, Eléctrico, Pequeño Olímpico b Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito b – Bam Bam got strechered out. Had the finish wrong here originally.
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Máscara Dorada, Sagrado b Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca

Soccer game just wrapped, thought post game will be a while.

Lucha is on the air! Guess I should get that chat started.

Chat is finished – thanks for coming!

4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Volador Jr. DQ Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
– Rudos take the first (somehow)
– Mascara wins the second with a campana
– Averno pulls Volador’s mask for the DQ.
– Volador got stretched out and had a oxygen mask on, but it apparently wasn’t that dire.

5) Black Warrior, Héctor Garza, Shocker, Atlantis, Último Guerrero b Jushin Liger, Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro
– Shocker is not here for reasons outside the control of CMLL, we’re told
– Japan takes fall 1, Mexico fall 2
– Liger pins UG, with his feet on the ropes?
– challenges after the match, though UG is at least the third taking a strecher ride. Brainbuster set it up.

6) Místico vs Negro Casas [mask, hair]
– this match will NOT air tomorrow on TV; they’re holding back for a month or two
– Felino is in Negro’s corner. Sombra is with Mistico.
– Mistico takes fall one in about 6.
– Negro takes fall two in 7. With a little extra help.
– Mistico pins Negro in fall 3, after about 14 minutes. That’s the win.
– Mistico challenges Felino (and hits him with the trash can) after the match. Why not.

  1. That’s what I see on Alexis site as well.

Considering that no one has heard from Shocker in CMLL since Wednesday, I’m wondering what if Shocker is the surprise luchador for AAA?

  2. Well in order for the papers to have heard Shocker isn’t appearing tonight and has been replaced by Atlantis – CMLL would have had to known by Thursday afternoon/night. So either Shocker got hurt or CMLL found out he’s planning on jumping. Just b/c they didn’t hear from him between post-GDL on Wednesday and Thursday night doesn’t seem like it would cause him to get yanked from the show unless all CMLL guys working the show were required to check in which seems silly.

  3. OK, the show was good, but definitely not great. I’d say both of the last two Dos Leyendas were better shows. The Arena was as full as I have ever seen it, so either a sell out or close to it. We were sitting 10th row on the right hand side of the ring if facing the entrance (right near the announce table). They redid the set around the entrance which looked very nice. Crowd was into the show the whole night.

Show opened with a video recapping the main events back to the 71st anniversary followed by the usual big show dance number.

Women’s match was good and got the crowd going but was pretty quick.

Minis was a surprise since it only went two falls with the tecnicos winning clean in both. Bam Bam was attempting an asai moonsault when Pierrothito kicked the middle rope. Bam Bam fell awkwardly hitting his head on the ring apron. So, either this is the reason they went with Electrico getting the clean submission on Pierrothito or they are maybe planning a singles match. This match felt a little rushed and wasn’t the minis best work

Tercera was solid all around. Misterioso II made his entrance with Dragon and Sangre and even got a Poder Mexica outfit. Maybe he gets to be an official member. Everyone came out of this match looking good, but the crowd would have erupted for a Poder Mexica victory. Everyone seems to be starting to wonder when the rudos are going to get their win now.

La Sombra is in full on black Spiderman costume for his match. Volador seems to have some sort of painted on latex shirt and a mask that is half Volador and half kind of Jokerish. More on his outfit and the dangers of wearing a something new to the biggest show of the year in a minute. Triad’s outfits match more than normal (and by that I mean that they actually got Ephesto matching tights this time). Volador looked awful in this match. Not sure if there was something wrong with him coming in or if something happened in the first fall that I missed. Averno hit his finisher on Volador at the end of the first fall off of the ropes and Volador’s mask fell completely off mid move. Averno actually covered Volador’s face during the pin. Not even possible to pretend that Averno did it on purpose since he had his hands behind Volador’s back for the move. Things just continued to get weirder from here. Volador sat down in the tecnico’s corner and Mascara started stretching his legs for him and adjusting his boots. Not sure if he was having leg/cramping problems before the match or if the boots were causing issues for him. He worked a little at the beginning of the second fall, did a dive on one of the rudos where he barely cleared the second rope and almost didn’t make it to his opponent. I’m pretty sure he stayed on the ground for the rest of the second fall and medical staff took off one of his boots. He went back and sat on the ring apron for the beginning of the third with only one boot on, did a few moves, got help taking the second boot off, did a top rope splash, and then worked the finish with Averno. In the arena, it came off like he scored the pin on Averno after some weak interaction and his mask just fell off again. He stood up, got his arm raised and then laid back down and called for the stretcher. The whole thing was very odd and it looked like things would have gone better if they had called an audible and done a different ending that didn’t involve him. Crowd seemed kind of confused by the whole thing.

Mexico vs Japan of course got the crowd going strong again. The match was pretty solid, but nothing spectacular. Team Japan did a good job playing to the crowd for reactions and Team Mexico played its role fine. Nice dives at the end of the first fall, and Yujiro wound up with a huge welt across his back. Since Ultimo had ripped his maske earlier in the night, Liger’s face was completely exposed on the first brainbuster he hit.

Mistico vs Negro Casas was decent, but not as good as the Dos Leyendas match in my opinion. Some of that was probably due to the fact that they could do a surprise ending to the title match earlier in the year. Felino was awesome. The seconds were sent to the back during the first fall. Negro was playing the crowd perfectly for most of the night. They probably should have taken the bit from the Cadena Tres trios match earlier this year and let Mistico get a little rudo here since the crowd was pretty evenly split. My wife described the ending of the match as anticlimactic and that kind of summed it up. It looked like they were setting up for a Spanish Fly, and maybe Casas lost his balance or started to go into the move before Mistico was ready. They sort of improvised into a weak looking armdrag from the top rope, but it was clearly a blown spot. Mistico then went up top and hit a swanton bomb. I think everyone was expecting a kick out and one more spot after the blown spanish fly and was kind of surprised to hear the three count. Felino tried to keep Casas from giving up his hair, and Negro’s daughters (I’m assuming) were brought to the ring post match. Negro pushed Felino away and let Mistico cut off some locks, got a few more trimmed and left the ring while they ran the post match angle. Not sure if he was annoyed with the ending of the match or just trying to get out of the way of Felino/Mistico brawl, but I was a little surprised that Negro didn’t stick around for the full headshaving. Just seems like something he would want to do right on this big of a show. The barber guy kind of looked confused as Casas was walking up the ramp too.

Like I said, this certainly wasn’t the best show I’ve seen at Arena Mexico, but since it is likely going to be the only Anniversary show I make it to, I’m still glad that I went. Most of the matches were at least decent, but I had higher hopes for the main event.

  4. Excellent recap, Alan! Plus I never got to say it yesterday b/c I joined late and didn’t read it until today but Cubs your preview was amazing!

I love the way Volador’s outfit looks in the CMLL.com pictures. Curious to see the match and see what the hell went wrong since everyone is bashing him for his effort.

The entire night looked packed with new outfits from everyone, mostly green/red/white designs obviously. Only the women seemed to ignore the dress code.

From the pictures it looks like La Sombra busted out the reverse 360 that Aero Star likes to do!

Terribly disapointed to hear Mistico/Negro blew their finish and didn’t even cover up properly. You would think a veteran like Negro would have taken control of the situation and quickly called for La Mistica or the Casita.

Hopefully the entire shows makes TV like the March show eventually did.

  5. I can’t remember when/where the March show made tv. I would not be surprised to see this on TDN.

Can’t wait to see the new lighting.

  6. March show made TV during the swine flu so it’s a pretty good bet that if there was no swine flu that show wouldn’t have ever shown up on TV unless they had a “special” like they did for last year’s Anniversary (which aired about 6 weeks after the event).
