04/05: Chicago, Lopez Mateos

So I was at

indy (SUN) 04/05 Union League Boys and Girls Club
1) Emperador Azteca (Chicago) & Venom b Guardian & Pinocho
2) Samurai (Chicago) & Tigre (Chicago) b Payaso Blanco & Payaso Negro
3) Angel de La Muerte & Bazooka b Electron & Panthleon
4) Guerrerito del Futuro & Pierrothito DQ Mascarita Dorada & Rey Fuego
5) Aguila de America, Infernal, Yakuza (Chicago) DQ Pantera, Rey Makawi, Super Muneco

I think I struck out on Venom’s twice on twitter, despite him wearing a Venom shirt. I dunno, this is why I should be banned from live results.

Finish to the semimain was Pierrothito fouling Dorada, then faking his own foul with the ref down. Ref recovers, checks both guys, polls the crowd, and gives it to the rudo because he’s a rudo ref.

Finish to the main was Aguila fouling Muneco, then faking his own foul with the ref down. Ref recovers, checks both guys, polls the crowd, and gives it to the rudo because he’s a rudo ref. (but this was different, because they also did the ten second ‘one fall mask match’ bit too, not that half the crowd stuck around for it.)

Dorada was really good, though this was not Arena Mexico and we were only getting one rotation on the spinning armdrag into the spinning headscissors bit. His match was clearly the best match. Second match probably is ahead of the main event (Pantera did the headstands, not much else, not a surprise with that crew). Finish of that second match was Samuari doing a 450 onto one clown while Tigre did a splash onto the other one. Could’ve been a frog splash, was payign attention more to the guy doing the big spin, and turned the other way to see one of Tigre’s arms turned in an very unnatural direction. If I remember right, there was something very similar that happened to Eddie Guerrero when he was in WWE – elbow hit badly on a frog splash and hyper extended or whatever. Very ugly and very painful; hopefully not as serious as it seemed.

Everyone was over it like five minutes later. Crowd seemed into the show but the last finish and the length were both a bit much.

…and then I drove home thru a sleet/ice/snow blizzard and am a dead man typing. That’s the excuse I’m using today for screwing up, have to come up with a new one tomorrow.

AAA (SAT) 04/04 Arena Lopez Mateos [DJ Spectro, LuchandoLibre]
1) ?? & Rey Vikingo b ? & Batman
2) La Parkita & Mini Charly Manson b Mini Chessman & Mini Psicosis
3) Krimen, Sepulturero I, Terry 2000 b Robin Maravilla, Sadico, Yakuza
4) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Silver King DQ Konnan & Zorro
5) Alan Stone, Chris Stone, El Elegido b Cuervo, Escoria, Ultimo Gladiador

Wagner and company worked semimain because Wagner had another show to get to. Ultimo Gladiador worked with the Dark Family because someone booked Ozz here and in California at the same time. Full house or close to it.

As DJ Spectro predicts on another post, the request by the DF commission for all commission to suspend Konnan has fallen on deaf ears. Remind me to talk about this at a time I’m not dead tired.

Dr. Lucha has his recap of the San Diego AAA show over on f4wonline…

Still, the major star of the show, Jesus Escobedo owes me $59 for last night, for wasting 21 minutes and 43 seconds of my life like that. I have been watching wrestling since late 1963-early 1964, almost every weekend since 1966; and, I have been watching lucha libre since 1983, full-time since 1989 – last night’s “performance” by La Parka was the single poorest effort I can ever recall seeing. Until the final minute of the match, when he a) took the ginger-est body-slam since late-1990’s Giant Baba, and b) did a pescado onto two Clowns who gingerly caught up and laid him on the ground, he moved almost 100% less than the non-human animatronic statues at the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

(Still possibly more than Super Muneco.) Haven’t seen Las Vegas results, but I’d assume they’re the same as this show at this point.

Universal has a random seeming interview with Goddess, who’s talking about returning as a ruda.

Black Tiger IV was unmasked as Rocky Romero; I know, I’m shocked. They’re already moving on (or back to) Black Tiger V, so I don’t know if Romero’s finished up in NJPW or if they’re just using him occasionally (like not on the tours with CMLL?)

The Gladiatores has an interview with Gran Apache that I really need to listen to when I’m not passing out. Or someone can sum it up for me?

Mr. Reyes has more photos of the Pierroth benefit show. DJ Spectro has more on teh CMLL Friday night GDL show.

Argentina’s Pagina 12 has a good article about the different styles of wrestling in the country, as the influence of WWE TV meets the history of 100% lucha and more traditional lucha libre.

SuperLuchas #309 has the return of Gigante Warrior.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update, plus Robert on 10/28 & 11/11/07 GDL and 11/24/07 CMLL.

5) La Sombra & Volador Jr. vs Atlantis & Rey Bucanero [CMLL TAG]

CMLL’s page makes it sound like this is just part 1 – either the final two face next week, or there’s a second torneo next week (so Virus can win that…)

indy (WED) 04/08 Unidad Deportivo Acapulco
1) Cosmico & La Parktia vs Mr. Aguilita & Pequeño Halloween
2) Juventud Guerrera, Kunami, Super Nova vs Histeria, Psicosis II, X-Fly
3) Intocable, Olimpico, Super Crazy vs Damian 666, Halloween, Mr. Aguila
4) Dr. Wagner Jr. & El Hijo Del Santo vs Cibernetico & el Hijo del Perro Aguayo

A local article about this show decries two big shows being run in the same town in the same week, though it doesn’t offer any detail about non-Perro show. There’s 100% chance it’s a CMLL show, righ?

CMLL (FRI) 04/10 Arena Mexico
1) Tigre Blanco & Tony Rivera vs Artillero & Super Comando
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Sahori vs Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei
3) Metalico vs Hooligan [lightning]
4) Mascara Dorada, Metro, Valiente vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus
5) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Maximo vs Felino, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas
6) Dos Caras Jr., Hector Garza, La Mascara vs Averno, Mephisto, Terrible

Least interesting card of the CMLL DF week? You’ll note Maximo is still booked like normal (better than normal, actually) despite telling Reforma he was out of here. I guess we get an answer by Friday.

CMLL (SUN) 04/12 Arena Mexico
1) Sensei, Sombra de Plata, Trueno vs Cholo, Ramstein, Semental
2) Leono, Metalico, Molotov vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Hooligan
3) Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara, Stuka Jr. vs Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
4) Dos Caras Jr., Maximo, Shocker vs Atlantis, Lizmark Jr., Ultimo Guerrero
5) Mistico vs Negro Casas [CMLL WELTER]

Third straight week for that main event in one major place or another – and if you paid to see it at Dos Leyendas, you’re kinda of a sucker now, since this is fan apperciation prices.

IWRG (SUN) 04/12 Arena Naucalapn
1) Gizmo vs Comando Negro
2) Azoka & Daga vs Carta Brava Jr. & Chico del Barrio
3) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro vs Capitan Muerte, Testuya Bushi, Xiblaba
4) Trauma I & Trauma II vs Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II
5) Angelico, Fuerza Guerrera, Super Porky vs Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Negro Navarrro, Veneno

Angelico must be a Negro Navarro trainee, based on this booking and an NWA Mexico one next week. This is the only IWRG show of the week SuperLuchas has listed.

  1. “Third straight week for that main event in one major place or another – and if you paid to see it at Dos Leyendas, you’re kinda of a sucker now, since this is fan apperciation prices.”

Ouch! I’ll claim that the mask match at Dos Leyendas was worth some of the mark up, and that this match is only really interesting now since they gave Negro the surprise victory there. I enjoyed the match at Leyendas, so it will be interesting to see if they put on as good of a show here. At least now it makes sense that they aired the Dos Leyendas match on Fox Sports (and hopefully they air the rematch there too so that it doesn’t get lost on 52mx).

  2. And as usually happens, the big news of the day breaks as you were probably typing this all up. Texano Jr. upset Atlantis in the Coliseo Guadalajara tonight to win the NWA LHW Title.

  3. Did Dr. Lucha have some Coronas before writing up his recap? I couldn’t understand a lot of what he wrote OR maybe its AAA and I really do understand what he wrote.:)

  4. Just getting to see Dorada live must have been awesome. I refuse to believe you didn’t try to get a picture with him unless he was charging some insane money for it. It’d be cool if that finish set up a singles rematch some time down the road.

That description of Parka’s performance reminds me of Meltzer reviewing some WWF house shows he used to attend with Warrior/Andre main events. He was so pissed that they never even touched for 5 minutes and then Warrior clotheslined Andre as soft as possible so Andre could step through the ropes onto the floor and get counted out. At least AAA had an undercard to make up for the main event whereas I doubt those WWF shows had anything special underneath.

Goddess… returning… ugh. Please abort that thought. *cough*

I would hope that Sunday Torneo is part 1. Aside from having both Cometa/Pegasso and Los Angeles Celestiales in the match, they certainly seem to be leaving it open for another group with Puma King, Artillero, Flash, Skandalo, Stuka Jr., Loco Max and more. I like your idea of Virus winning the second week. If they keep it a one block tournament though, it’d be shocking if Dorada didn’t win when you look at his competition. The rudo side is extremely weak so if they are setting up a singles match I can’t even imagine who they’d match him up with.

What do they do if he KO’s himself on a dive like he did in the Puebla Reyes Del Aire?

Friday looks awful. That Lightning Match could stink the joint up if it goes longer than 3 minutes.

Cholo! Speaking of him – did anyone else find it weird he was pictured in the photos of last Sunday’s opener and he wasn’t even in the match?

Would love to see Mistico get the title back but guessing Negro cheats again to win.

  5. I don’t think WON watches any AAA on Galavision. He thought there were botched spots on tonight Wrestlemania ladder match? I thought it was funny how AAA guys use ladders all the time, yet WWE guys did some amazing stuff tonight, with little practice. If WON watched AAA, they would not have thought anything was botched by comparison.

  6. Keep in mind the ladders AAA uses are pathetic household ladders that look worn out before the match begins while the WWE custom orders special ladders any time they need to use them.

  7. So LA only did about 5,000 paid, with 7,500 in the venue for AAA. That’s not bad with jacked up prices. Even though the young kids were free with a yogurt container, it’s still a good turnout, but about 2,500 under my prediction. Hopefully AAA won’t give up, and they’ll hit Chicago, Denver, Phoenix, and NYC too.

  8. BTW, it seems like the Torneo later today (Tuesday) is indeed to crown a champion and not set up a title match or a second round.
