CMLL Martes de Nuevo Valores: 2017-02-07

this gets better when Blue Jr. stays out of it

Recapped: 02/08/2017

What happened: Rey Bucanero cheated to beat Stuka. That’s it

What was good: I liked the Panther trios and the Stuka/Bucanero match, but nothing that strongly.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube

Match Time: 13:54

Review: [ok] I watched this match, but I’m not sure how I could prove it to you – there’s so many of these matches that are exactly the same. It wasn’t interesting and no one cared and it’s only OK because they didn’t mess much up. Aereo wearing a shirt with mask that no one remembers (and isn’t on his gear) is an odd way to go. Nitro’s ending of fall 1 was smooth, Nitro quitting before Acero had finished putting on his hold less so.

Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 17:45

Review: [ok] Technically fine match that I couldn’t find a way to care about all. No one was tripping over themselves as when Arkangel is in these matches, but the action didn’t seem interesting to me. Starman looked a little slow and a little bit like he was avoiding bumping, but that just meant he fit in fine here. They totally missed Oro Jr.’s moonsault live but at least caught in on replay

Match 3: Blue Panther Jr., Stigma, The Panther vs Cancerbero, Sagrado, Virus

    • Sagrado Nudo Maldito Blue Panther Jr. (4:21)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 18:09

Review: [good] Enjoyable midcard match. Sagrado and Stigma was a great matchup, one we might have not have even gotten if Skandalo had been around as scheduled. Sagrado is a great bully (he’s even got the shirt), Stigma is easily bullied, and Sagrado was a good base for Stigma’s bigger headscissors and armdrags. Virus started off the match good trolling the Panther brothers, and the usual mat open with The Panther was good. (They need to do that singles match so badly.)

Match 4: Drone, Guerrero Maya Jr., Soberano Jr. vs Hechicero, Misterioso Jr., Vangellys

  1. rudos
    • Vangellys northern lights suplex Soberano Jr. (7:09)
  2. técnicos
    • Guerrero Maya Jr. Dos Caras clutch Hechicero (3:16)
  3. rudos
    • Misterioso powerbomb Soberano Jr. (6:14)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 16:39

Review: [ok] There were plenty of parts of this match I liked but it never really got interesting as a whole, if that makes sense. It probably doesn’t. Soberano fit in fine in a higher than usual spot, but he was also generally just doing the same match he’d do in a second match spot. Hechicero matched up well with Soberano – and made sure Misterioso didn’t accidentally kill him on the finish – but there was not a lot of drama in this one and not a lot of excitement. The moves didn’t add up much and I wasn’t wowed by the moves alone.

Match 5: Stuka Jr. vs Rey Bucanero

Arena México, 02/07/2017
Video:
VideosOficialesCMLL

  1. Stuka torpedo splash (1:56)
  2. Rey Bucanero moonsault counter kick (0:59)
  3. Rey Bucanero crucifix cradle w/ropes (6:13)

Winner: Rey Bucanero (2/3)
Match Time: 9:08
Notes: Stuka doesn’t appear hobbled after leaving early yesterday. Bucanero, in a new mask, attacks him from behind before he can get to the ring. Stuka turns it around anyway to beat Bucanero quick in the first, and stays in control for the minute the second fall lasts until he moonsaults into Bucanero’s boots. Bucanero grabbed the bottom rope to get the pin on Stuka. Stuka challenged him to a hair/mask match.

Review: [good] Just enough to get credit on a Tuesday show. Rey Bucanero did some big and small things nice: no one else is taking monkey flips out of the ring, and Bucanero gave more effort to tease the possibility of being counted out after Stuka’s three dives than most anyone around here. Still, it was Stuka doing those dives, and doing 90% of the movement in this match. Like the Maya/Ephesto match, you’re left wishing Stuka had someone a little bit more helpful to work against here, but the final result was a bit better. Finish doesn’t really make sense unless they’re actually doing that mask/hair match. I think it probably doesn’t make sense.

all the Stuka highspots and the only thing I grabbed with Bucanero taking the monkey flip

Match 6: Carístico, Máximo Sexy, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

  1. rudos
    • Felino reverse figure four Carístico (3:57)
  2. técnicos
    • Máximo kiss Mr. Niebla (2:15)
    • Máximo kiss Felin (2:21)
  3. rudos
    • Carístico La Mistica Último Guerrero (3:51)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 10:09

Review: [ok] This was totally the Tuesday main event comedy speed run special, but I’m there’s any time or place where a match with Niebla, Felino and Máximo would be that serious. Crowd was less into it than usual, though it seemed about the same to me – maybe better, since Carístico was trying hard when he was in. Volador did a dive and maybe was in at other parts, though it didn’t seem that way.
