12/23: Koslov, IWRG

In case you missed it, there was a post earlier about Ultimo Guerrero, champion of the world

Alex Koslov updated his myspace to talk about his jump to AAA (again)

That’s how I began to feel in CMLL. I’ve wrestled some of the best wrestlers in Mexico. And it was an awesome experience. And I’ve learned a lot.. But doing the same thing over and over gets old. When something gets old for me, I need to make a move. I need to get away from it because it’s not fun anymore. Towards the last several months before my departure from CMLL, I was at that point where I needed to go, I needed to make a change. The passion in me was asleep, the soul in me was not stimulated anymore. And that is exactly the reason of the nature in which I left. It was a way for me to wake up my soul and my passion again. It had to be dramatic and it had to be impactful. I meant to make shockwaves! It was quite an adrenaline rush, and it definitely awoke me! There is people who think I left CMLL for AAA for the money. And it just distrurbs me because these people have no idea. I am a person that acts on emotion. It’s never been about the money. It’s always been about being passionate about what you do and enjoying what you do.

When I speak negative, I speak for my companions in CMLL who I feel are not getting the opportunity they trully deserve, guys like Mesterioso Jr, guys like Efesto, guys like Terrible, guys like Texano Jr.

There’s more about CMLL fans who hate AAA and CMLL being outdated. I wish we were talking about Alex Koslov’s awesome matches in AAA by now. I’m reluctant to disagree with Alex, because I like him and appreciate it when luchadors give their real opinions, but – who are the AAA equivalents of Mistersioso, Ephesto, Terrible, and Texano? There needs to be more opportunities all over the place is all I’m saying.

IWRG (FRI) 12/19 Arena Naucalpan [Al Filo del Ring]
1) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Freelance, Jack, Zatura
2) Hijo del Cien Caras & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. b Scorpio Jr. & Zumbido [IWRG IC TAG]

Dinamitas won clean. This was also the award show, and Oficials won for best trio. Freelance, Referee Reyes Rosas, Black Terry, Zumbido, and the Dinamitas also won awards.

AAA (SAT) 12/20 Deportivo Tlalli, Tlanepantla, EdM [Al Filo del Ring]
3) Coco Loco L Coco Pelos, Payaso Caronna, Payaso Miedo, Payaso Terror, Coco Tiger [mask]
4) Alex Koslov & Mesias b Konnan & Ozz

The Cocos match actually came down to Loco, Pelos, and Tiger left. Pelos dumbly martinete-d Tiger, getting himself DQed and saving Tiger, then Loco beat Pelos. Pelos is Mario Lopez, presumably not the one from Saved By The Bell. Al Filo del Ring is going on vacation for the rest of the year, good for him.

Luchas2000 #451 says Hector Garza is out with a knee injury. This is what passes for CMLL announcing it.

Televisa says WWE RAW will start airing on Canal 5, Monday at 10pm, starting 01/05. They don’t specifically say it’ll stop airing the other times.

LuchaWorld has Robert on GDL 05/27/07 and 06/10 and AAA 05/26/07

A while back I was talking to Dr. Lucha and he noted how AAA is just a two-man promotion right now with Konnan and Mesias.

No, that’s from last May, I swear. There’s also KrisZ‘s news report.

  1. who are the AAA equivalents of Mistersioso, Ephesto, Terrible, and Texano? There needs to be more opportunities all over the place is all I’m saying.

La Secta? Billy Boy? Gato Everday?

  2. MINI’S!

    CAGE!

    MATCH!

    Cubs can see the future!

The next two weeks of CMLL lineups are gonna be rockin’!

  3. Not to make this a cheap plug for myself, but as a wrestler myself, I totally understand where Alex is coming from with “needing a change for the sake of needing a change”. Sometimes in this business it is hard for fans, promoters, and wrestlers to know when it is simply time to move on to keep things fresh and to not burn yourself out.

What I absolutley do not get is what Alex says about making an impact, and improving his position, but then he essentially moves over into a lower spot on the card in AAA. While perhaps there are big plans for him down the line that we do not know about, so far the jump to AAA can only be described as a lateral move.
In my eyes, considering that he was getting title shots in CMLL, and main eventing regularly on small shows (and occasionally in ArMex), the move is almost inexplicable, unless he just did not like the environment in CMLL. I think it is hard to dispute the quality of matches (or the potential quality matches) just isnt the same in AAA.
I wonder if it was not a “money issue” per se, but rather he thought that he was being underpaid for his position on the cards, and the only options he saw were continuing as things were, or jumping ship. I can totally see CMLL paying foreigners less than natives, while AAA seems to be dishing out more for foreigners.

  4. I compare Alex move to Killings. Killings was an on and off again midcarder/semi main eventer when he was healthy in TNA then went to the WWE as a full fledge mid carder(excluding his time in AAA). However, being a midcarder in WWE means more money and exposure. I don’t know about the money part but Alex is on tv everyweek in front of a larger audience in a role where he gets to be himself a little more.

  5. I think it has a lot to do with Koslov and Romero’s relationship. When Electro left AAA and joined CMLL, Lady Apache followed. Felino got Princesa Blanca into CMLL. Crazzy Boy and Joe Lider only work shows together so they can spend post-show time together. Everyone wants to be with their partner as much as possible and it’s easier when you work for the same promotion.

  6. I think what Rob means is that Koslov and Romero are old friends, and thus wrestling together has more appeal than being alone somewhere and unhappy. Crazzy & Lider are friends who came up together and are traveling partners was Rob’s implication… nothing more I assume.

  7. @Nikita: Sure, let’s go with that.

Switching topics – my guess is Koslov’s jump was also partly to do with the age factor. He’s still not really a mature guy so he doesn’t see the sense in sticking with CMLL even if it would mean having a job for life if he so chose. He saw the shock factor of jumping to AAA with his partner and went for it without even thinking of the consequences. If he had sat down to think about it he might have realized he has NOBODY to face in AAA and with the rate they bring in foreigners, he has no job security at all.

I’d be worried if I was Koslov b/c Paco wasn’t happy with how he handled himself and Koslov has no leverage if Konnan decides he doesn’t want to use him any more. Koslov could be back working U.S. indies in front of 100 fans before he even realizes it.

  8. Isn’t Kozlov main eventing Spot show like every week? When AAA finally fires Teddy hart and Jack Evans leaves for ROH, Kozlov will have a spot. Plus he could always go to TNA as he was impressive in the X cup.

  9. Talk about a company with no upside. TNA is such rut, he’d be wishing he had never left CMLL.

  10. I think Koslov is doing well where he is.

Back in NYC, all the Mexicans in the neighborhood who watch AAA seem excited about the angles, and one kid couldn’t stop telling me about Joaquin Roldan, Konnan, and “that guy with the tattoos”. I guess casual fans see things in a much different perspective.

  11. I’m sorry but in another thread you just happened to mention how much younger Cubs is than you are so I have to ask…

No parents have problems with a middle-aged man coming up to their little kids every week to ask them about wrestling?

  12. @Rob: What’s your point Rob? I have random kids come by my apartment and we watch Men’s Club shows together, and there is wrong nothing going on. Well, atleast nothing they should tell the cops.

  13. I just ran across this video clip and had to put it up here for the hilarity of Koslov’s comments.

“The passion in me was asleep, the soul in me was not stimulated anymore. And that is exactly the reason of the nature in which I left. It was a way for me to wake up my soul and my passion again. […] It’s always been about being passionate about what you do and enjoying what you do.”

Judging by this video we can assume Alex has a passion for other guys pulling his pants down, pulling a fake gun on him and having his face sat on?

At least Rocky and he are together.:) It’s sweet.
