Tiger spinning DDT

Recapped: 10/10/2016

What happened: Rey Escorpion beat Cibernético via DQ. Carístico beat Extreme Tiger in a singles match. Both were presented as “mano y mano” matches, and all talk of points and a Liga Elite seems to have been dropped. None of the matches seem to mean anything right now.

What was good: I liked the main event, once it got going. The clipped match airing right before it was good but really just highlights.

Where can I watch it: It’s on my channel and the faux Liga Elite channel.

The intro has been updated to focus on only Elite guys (which include Rey Escorpión. The bit on the end of the show still hasn’t been updated.

Match 1: El Hijo De Amo De Los 8 Angulos, Hijo de LA Park, Zumbi vs Heddi Karaoui, Herodes Jr., Samoano

    • Samoano middle rope elbow drop Octagon Jr. (5:17)
  2. técnicos
    • Hijo de LA Park Spanish Fly Herodes Jr. (3:09)
  3. técnicos
    • DQ Samoano [ref shove] (5:51)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 14:17
Notes: They’re using a very high hard camera angle, which gets explained every time they shoot from the floor- there’s not that many people past the first few rows. Samoano is an indie guy doing a island savage gimmick; Karaoui has to hold him back from grabbing the ring ring girl between falls. Heddi was clearly using a choke, not a crossface or a chinlock but the ref was OK with it. Samoano lightly shoved the referee to draw the DQ, when the referee was teasing an excessive violence DQ. They end up with Zumbi’s mask.

Review: [ok] alright, I guess. Nothing was too bad, and there was a good sequence with Zumbi & Heddi Karaoui (who’ve worked together a lot on smaller shows) in the third fall. The match itself wasn’t all that much interesting and the finish was flat – any screwy finish in Elite feels like a waste of time, because it’s hard to believe anything is going anywhere. Samoano seems OK and I appreciate anyone who shows up with a personality instead of just being a generic mask.

  2. rudos

  3. tecnicos

    • Bandido headscissors Canadian Destroyer Bandido (4:46)

Winner: tecnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 19:54

Review: [ok] this match had strong moments: the rudos talked after the match about wanting to form a trio, and they had lots of energetic teamwork spots thru the match, especially in the second fall. The técnicos all had beautiful moves early and late. The problem, as often with this rudo crew, is they’re really sloppy and careless and many spots looked bad as a result. It was inexplicable how Hijo de Dos Caras couldn’t catch the simplest Bandido dive in the first fall (and then amazing how he seemed to take the much harder finish.) Most of Argos’ offense only looks good in his head. They’re getting regular TV work but not improving. Ultimo Ninja does seem to be improving and stood out on a team with two other really promising técnicos.

Match 3: Rey Escorpión vs Cibernético in a Liga Elite match
Arena Neza, 09/23/2016
Video:
Liga Elitethecubsfan

Winner: Rey Escorpión (DQ)
Match Time: 10:56
Notes: Escorpión is wearing a fedora, a suit jacket, and a Taichi like opera mask as he tries to find a knock off Ingobernable character. Cibernético accidentally hit referee Babe Richard Jr., both men got in fouls and visual falls, and Babe Richard Jr. gave Escorpion the win with Cibernético on top.

Review: [ok] they did some brawling early to work around the weakness of this match up. It didn’t do much for me, but more of it would’ve been better than the very long my move→kickout→your move that took up the last half of this match. Cibernético tried, just isn’t much good, and he and Escorpión had no great chemistry (and some negative ability to work together at times.) Cibernético did the worst “accidental” hitting the referee bit ever, if it even was supposed to be accidental. He stopped in front of the referee and hit him, it didn’t come off as much of an accident. This was just tedious.

Match 4: Neza Kid I & Rocky Lobo vs Diamante & Imposible

  1. técnicos
    • Rocky Lobo corner cutter Diamante (2:27)
    • COR Imposible (2:47)
  2. rudos
    • Imposible powerbomb Neza Kid (0:49)
    • Diamante Canadian Destroyer Rocky Lobo (0:59)
  3. rudos
    • Impossible sit down powerbomb Rocky Lobo (1:23)
    • no other pin

Winner: rudos (2/3)
Match Time: 5:09
Notes: Neza Kid appears to be Freelance once again, but he’s covered himself totally to make it hard to tell. This match is edited. The first fall is smooth, but it turns into highlights by the second fall.

Review: [not rated] this appears to have been the best undercard match on the show, so it sadly was cut into the pieces after the first fall. This is an easy good if it airs semi-complete and maybe higher. They were moving so fast in the first fall that Diamante could barely keep up, but the stuff that made it thru looked spectacular. Rocky Lobo looked good in what saw, and Neza Kid obviously needs ot be showing up more often than Arena Neza shows.

Match 5: Xtreme Tiger vs Carístico in a Liga Elite match
Arena Neza, 09/23/2016
Video:
Liga Elitethecubsfan

Winner: Carístico (Spanish Fly)
Match Time: 14:01
Notes: There are called “Mano a Mano” on screen and there’s no mention of points or the Liga Elite, even when the name is used on the poster.

Review: [good] This match was super rough in the first few minutes, to the point where it seemed like they literally stopped, stood and started talking to each other before doing a belly to belly suplex. If you pick up from Tiger’s dive, it’s a much sharper and better flowing match. Carístico’s trickier offense looked a little off, though not as off as his brothers offense. Tiger figured out what he could make work and set up Carístico for his big moves. Extreme Tiger is the only one around here willing to actually lose; he’d be missed if he ever left. The rough start stops me from rating it higher, but this was the best complete match on this show in a while.
