12/09: notes

Just to be clear: I am not Senate Candidate 5

Both Ovaciones, ESTO and Notimex say tonight’s cibernetico in Arena Mexico is actually for the Mexican Welterweight championship, which means Sangre Azteca’s title. Looking at the list of tecnico challengers, any of them could be considered reasonable contenders. Hmm, might as well do a poll.

[poll id=”6″]

If I can bias the poll for a sec, I think it’s either Dorada or the ex-champ. But then I wouldn’t be shocked if a rudo won either. It’s a semimain on a Tuesday show, any of these matches aren’t going to mean much (but some might be fun.)

ESPNDeportes has a lucha libre blog. Who knew? (Wagnermania) I don’t know how/why ESPN has a blog in 2008 without an RSS feed, though. That’s kind of absurd.

Dr. Wagner Jr. respects CMLL’s right to fire him, but vetoing him (firing anyone who works with him) is above and beyond and Wagner suggests he may file a lawsuit about it. On the other hand, Wagner suggests a lot of things.

AAA links
– talk about Latin Lover vs Konnan (mostly the same as the show recap)
El Brazo’s 2008
– while hyping Nicho & Lider as an incredible team, there’s a discussion of AAA purposefully ridding themselves of all belts that don’t have “AAA” on the name plate. I think we figured they were doing that, but I think this is the first time they’ve acknowledge it was a plan. Note that in a article wondering about the next challengers for these tag team titles, Jack and Teddy’s name does not come up.

Arena Queretaro @ Multiply looks back at the year in main events: part 1, part 2. Probably some missing results in there.

As requested, SoloLuchas has more photos from the Perros debut show, as does Black Terry Jr.. Ovaciones reports the crowd as 4,500, and it looks better in these shots (where there’s a full bleacher in the background, rather than an empty one.) SoloLuchas has their recap of the show (“a success”) and has an interview with Super Nova, who says he and Super Crazy have talked about forming Los Supers. Also, in Reforma (via Jazzo) LA Park is talking mask match with Dr. Wagner, again.

The next show for this group is said to be 12/17 in Rodeo Santa Fe, Guadalajara. When I kept seeing GDL mentioned as the next show, I presumed that meant Perro’s appearance on the lucha libre expo show, but that’s the 14th. AAA ran Rodeo Santa Fe last October.

On January 21st, Perro Aguayo Jr. will be appearing in the Solo por Mujeres show.

An interview with Rosalio Vera reveals he only knew lucha thru El Santo’s movies until he was assigned to cover it it as a photographer. He’s now been doing it for 25 years.

SoloLuchas has their recap of Guerra de Titanes up as well.

Luchaworld has Robert on 2006 Guadalajara, CMLL TV from 09/09/06 and from 09/16/06 as well as KrisZ’s news update.

Ohtani’s Jacket writes about Los Brazos vs Los Bucaneros from 1989 and matches from 1993 and 1994 AAA.

  1. Cubs- Wagnermania has an rss feed. It shows up at the top of their page. The little symbols up there. If you use Firefox, it shows up on the browser.

They don’t seem to have the plug-in to rss feed that shows up for each entry for their site. They could find one easily over at the wordpress plugin directory.

  2. Ahhh! I see. That is surprising. ESPN has rss feeds for their news stories but not for their blogs, except maybe Truehoop. ESPNDeportes is designed the same with the only difference being soccer getting more mention on their front page and of course there being a lucha blog.

I clicked on their MLB winter meetings blog to see if they had more news, but its just a Spanish translated version of what is on ESPN.com. Off topic, but Foxsports and mlb.com are doing a way better job updating their blogs with news from Vegas.

  3. Teddy could come back to the WWE now that they’re going to do a new Hart Foundation on Smackdown

  4. @christi: I don’t think that will happen. I think TNA would give him a chance though. Teddy Hart deserves a lot of credit for lasting over a year in AAA. I think he has matured.

  5. While the Perros show was not a bomb, it looks like they had about 2,500 at most. I figure about 800 at ringside based on the few photos I’ve seen. The bleachers appear to have a few hundred more on each side.

  6. I picked Mascara Purpura even though Dorada and Mictlan (both getting the super pushes) are involved. I figure Purpura can get a surprise win and then get destroyed next week to give Azteca a nice squash to start his singles career.

    OH.

I also picked Purpura so we can get a post from you on a foreigner getting a shot at a National Title.:)

I wonder if it’ll be a long Torneo or a tournament with 2 minute matches.

Only thing certain is the women’s tag opener is going to air and Henrik will complain.:)

  7. Since I mentioned Henrik I should also note the new Puebla show went online today and they EDITED OUT THE WOMEN’S MATCH in favor of airing both local matches.

    I (heart) TVC.

  8. I was at the arena mexico. Doragon Rojo won!
next tuesday “Sangre Azteca VS Doragon Rojo”.
    sure will be good match!!

  9. Wow, thanks for the info! Should be a good match.

Wonder if they’ll have a clean match and then form a partnership?

  10. Wow, I just randomly noticed ESTO lists a Tony Rivera/Tigre Blanco vs Apocalipsis/Ramstein opener for Arena Mexico tonight. Weird that cmll.com didn’t have that listed but boy will Henrik be even more pissed now. Actually I’m pretty pissed. Those guys have been CMLL mainstays and deserve a shot at TV! When did Ramstein reappear anyways?

  11. I’m not so sure Teddy Hart will get another chance with WWE or TNA anytime soon. He has been signed/fired about three times from WWE and TNA cut him like twice. Until he loses that “I am God” ego he has, he may just be working Indy shows.

  12. @CJK: Maybe, but as long as He and Jack stay as a team now. Maybe ROH since just about everyone he pissed off is gone now.

  13. @RA: What about CMLL? Wasn’t there a story a few months ago that CMLL was looking to book them or something?
