Valiente Special, 2nd try
Valiente Special, 2nd try

Recapped: 06/18/2016

What happened: Ultimo Guerrero kept his title over Valiente. Sugehit challenged for her own title shot against Zeuxis. Cavernario was hurt in his match.

What was good: The title match was good. The opener was good, and the second and third match weren’t bad.

Where can I watch it: It’s on my channel with a couple iffy buffering moments.

Match 1: Oro Jr. & Soberano Jr. vs Cancerbero & Raziel
Arena México, 06/17/2016

  1. Cancerberos
    • Cancerbero motocicleta Oro Jr. (6:23)
    • Raziel standing nudo Soberano (7:05)
  2. técnicos
    • Oro Jr. springboard senton con giro Raziel (2:13)
    • Soberano springboard moonsault Cancerbero (2:29)
  3. Cancerberos
    • Canerbero nudo lagunero/Raziel legdrop Soberano (3:39)
    • Raziel catapult, Cancerbero bulldog Oro Jr. (4:11)

Winner: Cancerberos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:45

Review: [good] They’re apparently going to keep doing this match until they get it right. They didn’t totally get it right this time, though it was more exciting than previous times and a lot better than a normal opener. There was some stuff that looked off, but we also had both teams doing more/different teamwork spots than usual. Oro Jr. doesn’t often look like he’s actually hurting anyone with his bigger moves. Cancerberos seem the exact opposite. Soberano got killed by Raziel’s legdrop at the end.

Match 2: Estrellita, Princesa Sugehit, Silueta vs La Seductora, Reyna Isis, Zeuxis
Arena México, 06/17/2016

  1. tecnicas
    • Silueta cradle suplex Reina Isis (5:18)
    • Estrellita casita Seductora (5:18)
  2. rudas
    • Seductora top rope silla Sileuta (4:49)
    • Reina Isis pump splash Estrellita (5:23)
  3. tecnicas
    • Princesa Sugehit satellite armbar Zeuxis (7:02)

Winner: tecnicas (1/3)
Match Time: 17:43
Notes: Princesa Sugehit is wearing a Catwoman mask, which makes her actually harder to recognize. Zeuxis has no such problem, as she attacks Sugehit on the way to the ring. Sugehit turns it around enough for Zeuxis to back off and refuse to fight her. Sugehit challenges for the title after winning clean. Zeuxis accepts while insulting her.

Review: [ok] crowd was very into Zeuxis versus Princesa Sugehit and they matched up pretty well, which bodes well for the title match next week. They also kind of looked better as a consequence of who they were teamed with, as the other four didn’t look quite at their level. Isis and Seductora doing not so great corner clotheslines and Zeuxis rushing in with a jumping double knee smash was the best moment of that trend. Match was fine.

Match 3: Ángel de Oro, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr. vs Misterioso Jr., Rey Bucanero, Shocker
Arena México, 06/17/2016

  1. tecnicos
    • Guerrero Maya Jr. Dos Caras Clutch Shocker (4:45)
  2. rudos
    • Misterioso kneebar Stuka (1:03)
    • Shocker inverted figure four, Rey Bucanero reverse full nelson (1:03)
  3. rudos
    • Misterioso inverted powerslam Angel de Oro (6:56)

Winner: rudos (2/3)
Match Time: 12:44
Notes: Guerrero Maya Jr. & Shocker feuded. Rey Bucanero unmasked Maya near the end of the match on the outside.

Review: [ok] about a normal tercera match, helped by a hot audience and by the random Guerrero Maya/Shocker feud. Though, it was also hurt by that feud just not getting any payoff, with Angel de Oro pinned at a random point (as if they forgot he was captain) and Maya getting unmasked by Rey Bucanero on the floor. It feels unusual for Bucanero and Shocker to be working this low on the card, but they’ve worked against these guys before on Tuesday main events. They handled everything OK, just a little bit slower. Shocker doing comedy spots around his bad knees is believable.

Match 4: Marco Corleone, Máximo Sexy, Rey Cometa vs Cavernario, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
Arena México, 06/17/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Máximo half crab Negro Casas (0:53)
    • Marco Corleone Air Corleone Mr. Niebla (1:05)
  2. Peste Negra
    • Rey Cometa splash Negro Casas (5:36)
    • Mr. Niebla half crab Máximo (6:17)
  3. técnicos
    • Máximo kiss Negro Casas (0:59)
    • Máximo casita Mr. Niebla (1:05)

Winner: tecnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 8:27
Notes: Peste Negra attack Máximo as he enters first. They stop Marco too. Rey Cometa, wearing his belt, dives onto Barbaro. First fall goes fast, with Cavenrario on one knee and Comet waiting for at one ne point. Cavernario is down at ringside in between falls, with a ringside guy, Mr. Niebla, and eventually the doctor checking on him. Everyone stalls at ringside, and Cavernario is taken up the aisle as the ring girl walks to the ring for fall 2.

Review: [ok] match never turned into much after the quick first fall. They fell back on Peste Negra comedy to improvise some action, since whatever they had planned clearly involved a lot more Barbaro. It would’ve been better suited just going two falls, but maybe they thought there was a chance Cavernario could come back to finish things if they stretched it out or they knew there was a two fall match coming and didn’t want to have two of them. Crowd did enjoy the comedy but the ending was flat.

Match 5: Último Guerrero © vs Valiente for the NWA World Middleweight Championship
Arena México, 06/17/2016

  1. Valiente Indian deathlock (5:22)
  2. Ultimo Guerrero Pulpo Guerrero fall (1:40)
  3. Ultimo Guerrero Guerrero Special fall (8:48)

Winner: Ultimo Guerrero (2/3)
Match Time: 15:50
Notes: Seconds are Rey Bucanero & Fuego (not otherwise on the show.)

Review: [good] Slightly better title defense than against Stuka, with the louder Friday crowd helping a bit. The first fall felt meaningful, with Valiente trying for it a couple times before finally getting it good. The second fall was about as nothing as usual, but the third fall went back and forth quite a bit. It was shorter than usual, but mostly just by cutting out a lot of the near fall breaks as normal Valiente struggling at the Valiente Espacial earlier made it a bigger moment later (and it was a better time for it to happen.) It was still UG by the checklist and could’ve used one more big moment to sell Valiente as having a chance of winning, but this was definitely good enough for a random title match.

Match 6: Diamante Azul, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, La Máscara, Mephisto
Arena México, 06/17/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Diamante Azul fireman’s carrsy side slam Ephesto (2:55)
    • Volador top rope frakensteiner Mephisto (2:55)
  2. técnicos
    • DQ La Mascara [foul/unmask Mistico] (5:32)

Winner: tecnicos (1/2)
Match Time: 8:27
Notes: Volador wears a Go Pro camera to the ring. Mistico fought La Mascara as he came down the steps, starting the match early, and they feuded thru the match. Mascara said he’d take out all of the Munoz family.

Review: [ok] Just building the feud between Mascara and everyone named Munoz, with the técnicos getting in some big spots before the finish. There was as many highlights as some other matches, but less time overall, and a hurry to that ending. Mistico & Volador looked good, and crowd didn’t totally turn on the técnicos.

  1. Hi Cubs! Just a very random question hope you could help.

There are some names I haven’t seen booked in a while, I was wondering if you knew something about ’em.
Do you know what happened or where are these luchadors?:

    – Delta, yeah I know he isn’t that good but i kinda liked the headscissors to the outside he used to do (and sometimes botch) and it’s been a while since I last saw him..

    – Trueno, you know, Delta’s brother I remembered him from a random Puebla show years ago.

    – Relámpago, the dude who did some shows in Triple A.

    – Bam Bam, I haven’t seen him in a long…long time, yet I still remember some matches he had with -now- Demus 3:16.

    Saludos desde Michoacan, México.

I’m a big fan of your work, I have visited this website almost every day for the last 4 or 5 years, if not more. Really appreciate it man.

  2. Delta quietly quit CMLL in March. No one really knew until he hadn’t been around for a couple months, and he confirmed it on Twitter. He’s wrestling around northern Mexico a bit now.

Trueno also suddenly quit CMLL a few years ago. There were rumors he had some legal issues that required him to move back to his home town. He very rarely wrestles nowadays, sometimes as his original “Hijo del Trueno name.”

Relampago has show up in indies since leaving AAA, and fairly regularly in IWRG. He’s recently turned rudo.

Bam Bam was said to have personal issues that got him dropped by CMLL more than once. Since his last CMLL matches in 2014, he’s shown up a handful of times on indie shows but might be done with wrestling for now.

  3. Oh I see you know I thought maybe Delta had some situation similar to Rey Escorpion where he would be off for a season then coming back for a while. As for the others I had definitely lost all track on them. Thanks, now those random thoughts and questions are solved finally.

    Gracias Cubs! (Y)

P.S. I was about to ask you for Diamante, that dude who participated in one of the En busca de un ídolo tournament, but I kind of remember he participated in a
    Turiluchas not so long ago.

  4. Hey Blue Saint. Diamante is somehow related to La Sombra. I think they’re brothers -in-law or cousins or something. But with La Sombra in WWE, it could be a little more difficult for him to get back in, if La Sombra was helping him get a spot in CMLL.

  5. AFAIK, Sombra’s still on very good terms with CMLL and being related to him is not an obstacle. I think Diamante is a brother-in-law, but I can’t recall.
