Atlantis recovers quick!

Recapped: 06/11/2016

What happened: Cibernético & Atlantis picked up 3 points. Rey Escorpion’s feuding with Golden Magic, and maybe Diamante Azul & Carístico are involved.

What was good: The main event, maybe. The undercard highlights looked good.

Where can I watch it: It’s on my channel and Aztecadeportes.com

Ultimo Guerrero tries to assault a cameraman for some reason, and security is very mean to him.

Negro Casas tries to warming up his fists with Zacarias, but Zacarias is too short. So Casas warms up Zacarias instead.

Match 1: Cibernético vs Negro Casas in a Liga Elite match
Arena México, 06/09/2016
Video: thecubsfan

Winner: Cibernético (chokeslam into a powerbomb)
Match Time: 3:39
Notes: Cibernético has the heavyweight championship, and is fine after taking the martinete.

Review: [ok] Casas tried to brawl with Cibernético, and that didn’t work out well for Casas. Didn’t really work out well for us, Casas trying to outsmart Cibernético would’ve produced a more interesting match. This was the shortest match in the tournament, though a little bit more competitive than the Tiger/Cibernetico one. More time probably wouldn’t have helped all that much.

Match 2: Ángel de Oro, Carístico, Golden Magic vs Diamante Azul, Mr. Niebla, Rey Escorpión
Arena México, 06/09/2016
Video: thecubsfan

  1. rudos
    • Rey Escorpión sit down poweromb Golden Magic (3:57)
    • Mr. Niebla tirabuzon Angel de Oro (4:13)
  2. técnicos
    • Carístico Satellite armbar Diamante Azul (2:05)
    • Angel de Oro mecedora Mr. Niebla (2:16)
  3. técnicos
    • DQ Diamante Azul [Carisitco unmasking] (5:36)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 12:05
Notes: Carístico has his title. Rey Escorpión attacks Golden Magic for no particular reason before the match, though they had an issue last week too. Fight breaks out while Niebla is coming down to the ring. Diamante Azul works as a rudo. Elite doesn’t cut away from the Niebla spit shot, though they use the corner camera where it’s hard to see. Rey Escorpión tries to give Golden Magic the package piledriver, but Carístico breaks it up. Carístico gets Escorpión with La Mistica, but Azul dives in and unmask him. Escorpión fouls and unmasked Golden Magic as well. The rudos end up with all three masks, and toss them to the announcers.

Review: [ok] Not a great rudo side, who seemed to spend the first five minutes of the match kicking around the tecncios. Another one with a few good spots but not an interesting match overall. Diamante Azul has little experience as rudo, which made Caristico’s attempt at a double headscissors into an armbar even more amazing. It wasn’t smooth but I was surprised they even tried. It does seem like they’re doing more with him as a rudo based on the finish.

Match 3: Atlantis vs Último Guerrero in a Liga Elite match
Arena México, 06/09/2016
Video: thecubsfan

Winner: Atlantis (Atlantida)
Match Time: 9:44
Notes: Ultimo Guerrero attacks Atlantis on the way to the ring.

Review: [good] the short version of the usual big match between the two. Everything was solid, just lacking much real tease of a finish before Atlantis absorbed UG’s big move and just caught him in his own. Atlantis is slowing down even more – slipping on the top rope was scary – but he still can have a pretty solid match.

plenty of empty space for this move

Highlights of the first three matches are shown. Keira has new gear, and it either fits her better or she’s dropped some weight as well. She and Maravilla look good but lose. Whoever picks out the highlights gave us 20 seconds of Okumura & Dinamic Black battling over headscissors. One announcers briefly thinks Fuego is Flamita. Announcers put over Flamita huge, though he’s not a specifically big part of the highlights.

  1. Taya’s suplexes were off the chain. I am not a fan of the intergender, but she brings it. I agree, Ivelisse looked stiff and really didn’t work well. She’s outclassed in a match like this, where she actually has to wrestle and not brawl. The stamina needed and the pace of the match for 35+ minutes was amazing. Very well done.
