11/08: Mexico, AOL, ByL, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 11/07 Arena Mexico [ESTO, SuperLuchas]
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Angel de Oro DQ Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Marcela b Amapola, Medussa, Princesa Sujei
3) Dragon Rojo Jr., Felino, Misterioso II b Máximo, Mictlán, Valiente
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Mascara Dorada b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone, Místico b Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

Mistico simply defeated UG with La Mistica. No storyline, no hook for next week. By the numbers; Mistico even got mask ripped off early and ran back for the save, as has happened before.

Averno and company were officially presented as La Juaria del Terror (the Hounds of Terror.) Terrible and Texano were mentioned as being part of the group, and the members were wearing a shirt reading “Dios perdona, pero a los otros no”, which is both a takeoff of the old Perros shirt with a similar phrase and seemingly an attack on those who left.

Seems like we need one more, don’t we? A sixth to round out the second trio.

indy (THU) 11/06 Arena Olimpico Laguna de Gomez Palacio [el siglo de torreon]
1) Insolito & Jerry Brown b Cadet de Atlantida I & Cadet de Atlantida II
2) Mini Maximo b Pentagoncito [LAGUNA MINI]
3) Mr. Guerrero & Psycho b Piloto Suicia & Sexy Piscis
4) Blue Panther & Último Guerrero b Villano III & Villano V

Panther beat Villano V here again, and challenged for a mask vs hair match. Villano V said okay – as long as the promoter gave him 3,000,000 pesos to put his mask on the line. Hmm, where could he have come up with that number?

They’re building towards a Mr. Guerrero/Piloto Suicida title match. Mini Maximo won the title via low blow. Today in Torreon, there’s a benefit show for Espanto Jr., trying to raise money for a procedure involving stem cells.

Quite a few Box Y Lucha articles worth noting

is back in AAA. Again. For now. According to to Abismo Negro, let’s note. Will he make it to Sunday?

Damian 666 says he just changed his mind between when he told Box Y Lucha he wasn’t going and when he left anyway. “There’s not the remotest possibility of working with AAA.”

ULtimo Dragoncito and Fire talk about their mask match.

Okumura is thrilled to be back tomorrow. He’s been out four months and had two operations, the second one after his body rejected the plate and screws from the first.

Lluvia talks about her debut. She has a degree in psychology, but she says she’s going to step away from that and focus on wrestling. If only there was a joke I could make here.

– Starting Monday, Televisa is airing RAW on Mondays on Channel 4. It will also continue to be on Sundays. I’d figure that being on Mondays would mean it’d be live, but there’s no specific mention of that here.

– Interviews with Arana Malignas from Tampico, and Sadico of Tamaulipas.

WagnerMania has lots of video from the last week. From Ras de Lona, the week’s finishes and the Perros focused promos. Also, from CTres, the Wagner main event.

SuperLuchas has video of Konnan Big vs Blue Demon Jr.

Noroeste has a column about D-Generation-Mex, Super Crazy, and Los Perros.

Luchaworld has Robert on IWRG 06/01/06, thef irst two roudns of the AULL tournamnet and KrisZ‘s news update.

  1. Those cards a are a bit better – thanks to the segunda obviously! We sooooo need a GdR source :(

Best thing is seeing Fire still working, as i kinda half expected him to disappear after losing his mask, like Jeque. Still gutted he’s lost his mask, especially as he’s no Black Warrior underneath it, but unmasked, haggard, middle aged man Fire is still loads better than no Fire!

Any thought on Dorada’s identity, there’s a good clear pic on Suerluchas, but i don’t think there’s any telltale signs…

  2. Boxylucha article says RAW is still airing Sundays in their 17:00 slot, but their actual slot is at 17:30.

What the Televisa page says is that the 800th show will air at 17:00 tomorrow, and doesn’t specify it being gone or kept (its rating would be halved, it wouldn’t look that good for them to be even below CMLL, so I’m thinking it’s gone).

    http://www.televisadeportes.com/lucha-libre-box/023066/ahora-wwe-raw-todos-lunes-televisa

From what the radio guys said, “Dios perdona, pero a los otros no” is not acurate, it was more like god forgives, but not to that assholes.

  3. Find any picture of Metalik standing in the ring with his chest sticking out and you’ll find a perfect match for that Dorada photo.:P

  4. So it is him? Shit. I thought the pic looked like he was a bit smaller and chubbier, must just be the impression the white suit gives. Ah well, nice knowing ya metalik….

  5. I’m like 99% sure based on the photos and Cesar from the ByL forum who was there live and is a pretty smart dude saying it was him. TV will tell the story soon enough. I’m happy if it is b/c it would explain why a lot of his TV appearences were toned down compared to his Guadalajara work. Perhaps he can now go nuts with his super creative spots.:)

Is CMLL TV at 4EST or 5EST? Last week was the odd time b/c we hadn’t set our clocks back but it should be back to a 1 hour difference now like usual except the XEJ feed still has 1:14pm which would be a 2 hour difference.:/

Could be a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal fun TV show today! 3 matches I want to see plus Momentos of the mini’s last week since I dunno if it’ll make FSE.

You wanna hear something scary? The Dragoncito vs Fire mask match (which I watched last night) had a bigger crowd in Puebla than the Panther vs Villano match held 8 days after the Anniversary Show. YIKES.

La Lluvia looks Mexican, right? Anyone else see the Puebla show and think differently? The tell for me was she was counting along in Spanish with the ref and also seemed to be talking to Lady Apache on the apron. But maybe she just picked up decent Spanish. She certainly wrestled like your typical awful luchadora.:) Neat mask though.

C3 next week looks to score a 2 out of 4. I will certainly be watching hockey and the opener. YAY FOR TZUKI BACK TO REGULAR BOOKINGS! That mini’s match could be tons of fun and I’m with Henrik is being glad Fire is sticking around even though he now looks like a 70 year old midget.:P

Friday looks good too. Another mini’s segunda so now I’m REALLY PRAYING FSE is carrying that slot. Toscano would make a good 6th, no?

Is it too early to edit the wiki and name Mascara Dorada the winner of the 2009 Reyes Del Aire?:)

  6. Last night might not be aired if they go with the full anniversary show.

No minis in FSE… but FSE has never have any match with minis. No pequenas estrellas either. But u can get to see Skandalo as “main eventer”. I think we can put to a rest the “lagunero upheavel” theory.

  7. Please tell me it did actually go 3 falls and longer than 10 minutes!!

And if not – why oh f*cking why????

  8. I’m writing my comments up now but it only went 10 minutes and was one fall as reported. Not sure why and crowd seemed quite puzzled. It felt more like the type of match you’d have the week before a mask match where both guys just wanna kill each other and then after the match agree to a mask match to settle things.

No mini’s on FSE = :(. I guess I still have one day to beg for someone to record Canal52MX since Mexico has the CMLL show on Sunday, right?

  9. Well for about the first time ever, i got a feed and managed to see that semi and momentos. The match was nothing special and Momentos sucked. Metalik really doesn’t suit that white Dorada attire. Some nice spots though. :)

  10. I cannot believe in a match with Dorada and Tzuki they could only find a Momentos clip of Pequeno Warrior’s slingshot legdrop. Really now.

The semi-main definitely didn’t live up to the hype nor was it a botchfest as mentioned in another thread. Sombra blew his running headscissors to the floor badly and Dorada seemed nervous at times but didn’t actually blow anything. He just made sure to move slower than normal so he wouldn’t slip.:) The second fall finish was great and the third fall had a ton of neat spots. Dorada’s exchange was awesome, capped off with that craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy triple springboard blind frankensteiner! La Mascara’s exchange was even quick and painless. Dorada’s dive was really neat and I’m sure will look better when he isn’t as nervous about slipping. But holy fuck… LA SOMBRA!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m already confuzzled as to whether that dive or Aguila’s Reyes Del Aire dive will take dive of the year.

Overall I’d give the debut + match a… B. Definite room for improvement but how can you possibly shit on them for botching spots that were as difficult as they were trying?

What’s next for Sombra? Well how about these Henrik…

    – You know that spot where he gets assisted by one of the rudos into a springboard and usually does a moonsault? How about now he does his new tornillo?:)

    – Did you see C3 last week? What if that double springboard dive he was going was into a tornillo? If he busts that out later on C3 I will shit myself…

  11. The Laredo Kid moonsault? He’s still to hit that into a regular moonsault – one step at a time! Now we know he can easily do skytwisters, i’m hoping for a SFTD version :)

La Sombra’s really cool & all, and is one of the few who is innovative and doesn’t just solely rely on the same spots and sequences every week to get by – but there’s something about him that i just can’t take to, which stops him being one of my favourites. He’s just too lanky and unphotogenic and is too big to hit all those intricate crazy rana’s he does and make them look good. Venum was built a bit like that too but it worked with him. But with La Sombra, he just looks a bit odd. Gimme Volador Jr or Stuka any day :D

  12. I cringe every time Mistico lands on that taped up arm.:/

Oh good – a new way to waste time on CMLL TV – Dr. Morales now does an end of show ‘editorial’ segment.

@Henrik: Yes – the Laredo Kid moonsault! I think that’s what he was trying last week but we’ll never know unless he tries again this week (I have a feeling he will).

I can’t believe you aren’t a Sombra fan. He’s exactly like Oro used to be! Constantly innovative and wanting to be the best on the card. Truth is he makes most flying spots look better than the smaller dudes.:P

I thought they were taking a break between the regular show and Anniversary show? Guess not.

  13. I am a Sombra fan – just not a huge one. I prefer my lucha flyers to be more graceful – like the two i mentioned. Even though Sombra usually hits his spots, he just looks a bit too awkward. Not his fault i guess, he’s just too big for the style he chooses to work.

    I knew you’d be disappointed. :)

  14. Quite! My Sombra MV will change your mind!

Looks like they’re airing the segunda from the Anniversary which sucks b/c the opener looked like it had a ton of awesome spots from the pictures.

There you go Henrik, you get Volador and no Sombra.:P

  15. Looks like the mini’s didn’t make TV anywhere.:( If you are to believe the MVS listings…

    “17:00 CMLL: Guerreros del ring
    * Dos Caras Jr.-Marco Corleone-Blue Panther vs Hijo de Lizmark-Mr. Niebla-Rey Bucanero

    * Dark Angel-Goddess-India Sioux vs Amapola-Princesa Sujei-Mima Shimoda”

  16. Meanwhile, I bore myself watching AAA on Galavision…

Too many promos, crappy wrestling and I find it rather hypocritical to see Konnan doing the Pena’s ashes angle. Wasn’t he against WWE when they kept dragging Eddie Guerrero’s name into a storyline after his death? This angle is in even worst taste.

  17. The pequenos estrellas match from last week was said to be bad, so no surprise on it airing.

  18. And the semi-main was said to be a botchfest which it wasn’t and the attendance was said to be 4000+ which was a really low estimate. Whoever is saying these things needs new eyes.:)

  19. The radio guys said the attendance was below 4500 between first and second fall from the Semi. They kept saying “he fell” “missed it”.

Someone in elmartinete said the minis match was boring. And someone else said that Dorada blew a dive horribly.

  20. That segunda was really great but now I’m pissed at C3… I’d be more pissed it we missed a mini’s match but at least it was just the segunda and first fall of the trios titles. Someone better upload the show though.

  21. they’ll only show that and top two, this is another hint that perros are not in good terms with CMLL and that they’re trying to push Averno and Co. hard (then again, they jobbed to La Mascara so…)

  22. If Sombra and Dragon Rojo Jr. are really brothers (kidding) – there must be some serious sibling rivalry b/c Rojo didn’t even try to catch Sombra’s running somersault plancha. Ouch.

    No commentary it seems.

  23. Man, that was like a squash match for the tecnicos in the final two falls. At least they’re building them up as strong champs only to eventually lose to a makeshift team.:)

Did Sombra do a tornillo when they did the triple corner spot? I wish they would have shown a replay b/c I’m not sure as the camera panned out during the spot.

  24. Panther/Averno ruled. Sure they edited the third fall it seems but it didn’t hurt the match. Now where can I get me one of those Panther shirts?

  25. @Alfredo: You’re right about the ashes. That’s the kind of stuff to bring up when Konnan does that radio show Cubs appears on.

I’m watching today’s AAA show from Galavision. Lots of promos again, as you point out. Format is totally like RAW. Starts with an in-ring promo, with music interrupting the person speaker, followed by another interruption by music. Long recaps of the previous week’s show too.

One of my worst fears is that Faby and the Mexican women will be faded out.

  26. Actually I just realized that will be the show with the tag title match so they’ll be some lineup juggling or just six matches. That match + the tag titles would be one rockin’ show!

  27. AAA from Queretaro was all run-ins, long promos, Noti-AAA repeating what was said in all the promos, no ring entrances(minus the main event), and excessive violence.

  28. @LLL: And they still kicked WWE’s ass out of Gala. They confirmed it during the TV show (just was waiting for it), they say “cambiamos de horario a canal 4”, so the Gala show is gone…

AAA should have its 3 hours back, so everything is back to normal. WWE only lasted 6 weeks… I thought Vince was rich enough to hold his infomercial longer or in both Gala and 4, I was wrong.

Now Konnan has no excuse to say “he”‘s doing something because of WWE…

  29. 2nd shows fell 1 point each. Then, who knows, but that would mean that the second week of RAW did 6, so they did less than AAA. Smackdown was touring promoting the country then, so it should have helped, but PPVs not being aired surely won’t help them, that was MVS had in their favor.

    http://img172.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=78292_tele_122_437lo.jpg

WWE would be better buying time also in Canal 5 and keep Gala, but airing them at midnight.

  30. 22:30? That’s late. I don’t see WWE improving their ratings in that slot. Might even drop.

Why do you insist WWE is paying Azteca and Televisa?
