10/24: Dos, CMLL/AAA previews, Puebla

SoloLuchas says Dos Caras Jr. is signed with WWE and starting at the Royal Rumble. The article trumphants Dos Caras Jr.’s contract as a three year one. Super Porky’s contract was for three years.

CMLL (FRI) 10/24 Arena Mexico
1) Sensei & Sombra de Plata vs Calígula & Méssala
2) Flash, Metalik, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Loco Max, Skandalo
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Mictlán, Valiente vs Olímpico, Sangre Azteca, Virus
4) Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Misterioso II vs Averno, Mephisto, Terrible
5) Black Warrior, Blue Panther, Último Guerrero vs Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V

Generic previews: Notimex, ESTO and Ovaciones.

More intersting the show is any info about Perro Aguayo Jr.’s plan; surely people are going to have questions for Averno, Mephisto and Terrible. If they were serious about doing a UG/V5 as a mask match, you’d think they’d be hinting at a date by the end of this show. No one believes they are, so CMLL is kind of directionless at the moment.

AAA TV (FRI) 10/24 Beisbol Beto Avila, Veracruz
1) Mascarita Divina, Mini Charly Manson, Octagoncito vs Mascarita de la Muerte, Mini Chessman, Mini Histeria
2) Fabi Apache, Mascarita Sagrada 2007, Pimpinela Escarlata, Super Porky vs Cinthia Moreno, El Brazo, Mini Abismo Negro, Polvo de Esterllas [lumberjack]
3) Jack Evans & Teddy Hart vs Alan Stone & Chris Stone and Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario [AAA TAG, ladder]
4) Mesias vs El Elegido, Silver King, Gato Eveready, Escoria, Psicosis II, Histeria, El Alebrije, Crazy Boy, Extreme Tiger, Cuervo, Pirata Morgan, Aerostar [torneo Antonio Pena]
5) Cibernetico vs Zorro, Chessman [street]
6) La Parka Jr., Latin Lover, Octagón, Súper Fly vs Electro Shock, Kenzo Suzuki, Konnan, Rellik [War Games]

Rellik is listed as a mystery. You’d hope it’d be him, because otherwise why would they have brought him in to start with?

Tonight’s AAA taping is getting more press, as it should. La Oreja has Konnan already announcing his new executive team. Tirantes will be treasurer, and various people from the gossip show will be taking other positions. So this isn’t happening, good to know. NotiVer has the lineup, an interview with Joaquin Roldan (who says Marisela Pena is getting the urn back win or loss, and competition is good for the business.) For some reason, ESPN Deportes is writing about these things.

Also from that press conference – El Brazo: “I do not dance”. Yes, the guy from the Meterosexuals. El Brazo also explains that all wrestlers, every wrestler in the world, had to come to Mexico to learn wrestling before going back to wherever they were from, so that proves Mexican wrestling is the best. SoloLuchas complains of deja vu.

CMLL (MON) 10/27 Arena Puebla
1) el Tigre, Legionario, SWAT vs Espiritu Maligno, Mr. Rafaga, Zigma
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Lluvia vs La Seductora, Medussa, Princesa Sujei
3) Máximo, Mictlán, Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Olímpico, Sangre Azteca
4) Último Dragoncito vs Fire [mask]
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero

Lluvia? (Rain? That’d be fun, actually, though it’s surely not.) I’m taking Ultimo Dragoncito for the win.

SoloLuchas has an interview with Tony Cirio, who clears up one of AAA’s gimmick mysteries – he and Luis Cirio were La Mosca and La Hormiga! He’s a teacher at Arena Azteca Budokan.

Blue Panther talks about his career with el Siglo de Torreon.

SuperLuchas points to Hijo del Santo part of a fashion show in Peru, as posted on the offical Todo pro el Todo blog. Which I didn’t know existed.

Los Tinieblas are doing a children’s show on TV this Saturday.

Mil Mascaras: Resurrection gets a very positive review from PopMatters.

Negro and Romero in NJPW: 10/24 – G1 TAG LOSS to Yurijo and Naito.

BTW, this SuperLuchas post about steroids is doesn’t reach their usual standards. It’s not interesting enough to break down point by point, but – even if you do a good enough job of making “steroids don’t create muscle, you still have to work” and “wrestlers and families are hurt when wrestlers are out of action”, you still need to draw a line between those points and there’s nothing here close to that. I could go on about the author not knowing the differences using steroids as a catch-all term when they really should be saying PEDs, but the article starts with a memorial picture of Chris Benoit and that’s probably all you needed to know in the first place. There’s surely a good article to be written about steroid use in Mexico (and the compare/contrast to elsewhere), but I’d be shocked it if it came from a magazine affiliated site (or this one.)

La Wagnermania has a new site, which looks roughly 10000x better than this one.

  1. Dos Caras Jr in WWE?

Translation “i’m going to job to the Big Show, Undertaker and Triple H every night.

  2. He might wrestle Undertaker or Triple H once in those 3 years or probably on house shows in Mexico. He’ll probably be jobbing to guys like Big Show, Mark Henry and The Great Khali.

Gotta say La Wagnermania’s site looks awesome.

  3. Forget about Porky, Dos himself has signed the 3 year deal before… several times, then said it wasn’t true.

That ‘roid apology was the worst thing ever, I don’t think the guy even cares about wrestling at all (even with Benoit in the pic), he seems to be a MMA dude… I wonder if MMA will survive once/if they start having steroid related deaths.

  4. why is everyone assuming he’s going to be on Smackdown? and why will he be facing Big Show or Great Khali at all? if he’s on Smackdown i can see him facing MVP or Ron Killings or Shelton Benjamin or Brian Kendrick. he’ll be midcard. and i really see him going to Raw or most likely ECW. it depends if they want Dos and Rey on the same show or not. he will never face The Undertaker or Triple H or Randy Orton or Batista or Edge or Chris Jericho or any other top guy. depending on what show he’s on the highest on the card he’ll face would be C.M. Punk or Jeff Hardy.

  5. @Bruce: “why is everyone assuming he’s going to be on Smackdown? ”

That was the original rumor, that they’d try to use him as a Hispanic draw with Rey being moved to RAW. May not be true (may never been true), but it’s as good starting point as anyway.

  6. @xuisaw: Amen xui, of all the people you don’t want in a picture in any article dealing with steroids, Chris Benoit would not have been my choice.

He does come off MMA-ish. But even I do not believe there will be any roid related deaths in MMA.

  7. First off i think we have to understand a couple things… my primary thing as a writer in SuperLuchas is to cover MMA-related issues.

The blog is not medical, nor hardcore sports related, the blog is for wrestling fans, and most of the readers in superluchas seem to be in the range of 15-19, and as i wanted to reach a higher audience, i tried to use simple language to just explain what a steroids are, whats their use for sports and just try to clarify the water for people that thinks steroids are super hero pills / shots.

My point of view is: i dont judge if taking steroids is good or bad, i myself dont do it, but if i was in a situation in wich they told me, “See René, you wont be able to work for 4 months because you torn your ACL, you will be out for a couple months but we can accelerate your recovery if you take steroids.

There is a very good example about this in Hermes Franka, an UFC fighter that took steroids for his Sean Sherk fight, and made it public after the fight, arguing that as a fighter you need to fight to make a living, and for him not to fight was unacceptable, as he has a family.

He took the steroids to heal from accidents that happen while training.

You cant judge them, at the end of the day what we want is to see them in the ring, whitout them, the sports we love wouldnt be as good, as companys are nothing without their fighters / enterteiners.

The Christ Benoitt photo is to appeal wrestling fans, as superluchas is a wrestling blog and they perfectly know who he is and its gonna be easier to appeal the mass to read the article than if i post a photo of some steroids.

I dont think we can even judge Chris Benoitt, since we’ve never been in his situation, and we dont know what we would of done…

    Cheers, René Flores.

  8. I’m quite comfortable with judging Chris Benoit. By the logic that we’ve “never been in the same situation,” we can’t judge what anyone does if we haven’t been there. I haven’t been in the same situation as a serial killer who was abused as a child or whatever neither.

I have no moral issue with steroids, and I certainly can see why people use them, whether for performance enhancement or recovery reasons, their choice, unhealthy as it could be if overdone. At the same time, if you’re participating in a sport/competition which forbids them, then I don’t feel sorry for you getting suspended/whatever if caught.

  9. If Dos was jobbing to guys like Undertaker and Big Show with any sort of regularity, it would mean he’d be in the upper card rather consistently, so I’m not really sure anyone thought that logic through when trying to say it as a bad thing.

Not that I think Vince will (or that he even should, I don’t get why he even bothers signing guys like Dos or back to Ultimo, since it rarely works out that they bring the exposure he wants), but he does have HOSSish size, so he could actually stick around.

  10. Are you aware that most rapists were raped, that serial killers tend to have horrible childhoods, unless you’ve been in a situation like that, how can you judge?, do you really feel that you’re so better than them that you would make it better?

The reality is that we’re all humans, and all of us make mistakes, some being bigger mistakes than others, it just takes one bad decision to ruin your life, and that bad decision can involve mental disabilities like bipolarity or depression, and different perspectives.

Just think about people that lives in bad neighbors, they’re treated like thief’s, punks or discriminated from higher social class for like ever, that’s they’re reality, if you threat a person like he’s a thief all the time, at some point he will say, maybe that’s what I am and I cant change.

We all live our own realities and its always up to perspective.

  11. “Are you aware that most rapists were raped,”

Do you know what the word MOST means? No, most rapists were not raped. I doubt even more than a small percentage were.

“that serial killers tend to have horrible childhoods, unless you’ve been in a situation like that, how can you judge?”

Because the vast, vast majority of people who had “bad childhoods” don’t become serial killers or even criminals.

I’m all for understanding the background and nature of why people become criminals, because “they’re born that way” or what have you is silly, but that doesn’t mean they should be excused.

Yes, we all make MISTAKES, but we don’t all kill, rape or what have you.

  12. btw im not saying they should be walking free, but im a trutly beliver that judgement is what causes most of the bad things right now.

we all act to not be judged, most people starts drinking, smoking, doing drugs to be part of a group, to be accepted, to not be judged, how many straight men do you know are high fashion tailors, its taboo, how many gay men you know that are great fighters, i dont doubt there are, but they just keep quiet to not be judged.

how can a gay man be a great fighter?, that cant be……

  13. Try getting beat up all your life by your dad, seeing how he abuses your family, how no one ever cares about you, and tell me how you feel now.

  14. @René Flores: I open my eyes
    I try to see
But I’m blinded by the white light
    I can’t remember how
    I can’t remember why
    I’m lying here tonight

And I can’t stand the pain
And I can’t make it go away
No, I can’t stand the pain

How could this happen to me?
    I made my mistakes
    Got nowhere to run
The night goes on as I’m fading away
    I’m sick of this life
    I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me?

    Everybody’s screaming
I try to make a sound
    But no one hears me
    I’m slipping off the edge
    I’m hanging by a thread
I wanna start this over again

So I try to hold on to a time
    When nothing mattered
And I can’t explain what happened
And I can’t erase the things that I’ve done
    No, I can’t

How could this happen to me?
    I made my mistakes
    Got nowhere to run
The night goes on as I’m fading away
    I’m sick of this life
    I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me?

    I made my mistakes
    Got nowhere to run
The night goes on as I’m fading away
    I’m sick of this life
    I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me?

  15. Judgement… trying to fit…

Whats the difference between a jew, a catholic, and all the other religions?, they all belive in a greater force with different names.

Buda, Jeus, Alah, the truth is, the concept is always the same, people choose religion to fit a group, to say, my religion is better than yours, because in the end they’re moral code for the region.

The football team i like is better than yours.

my milkshake is better than yours.

    see my point?

For us, its fair to put in jail someone that steals, for others its fair to cut his hand, and how can you judge whats better if we all live different perspectives?, obviusly cutting someone hand because he stole something is horrible, for us, but its something perfectly normal for them.

In cameroon they iron womens breast when they’re young, because they belive if they have big boobs that will attract men attention and lead them to the bad ways.

they’re trying to give their children a better future making them less attractive to men, and who can judge them… its painfull?, yeah, but its a different perspective.

  16. My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard,
    And they’re like
    It’s better than yours,
Damn right it’s better than yours,

  17. I am so not even commenting on the above but I would like to say one of the most jaw-dropping things I’ve ever read on a Mexican message board was some guy posting a pic of Benoit 1 year after his death, me responding with a pic of Benoit’s kid who he killed and the same guy replying “let’s not focus on the negatives, let’s just remember what a great wrestler he was.”

  18. I was going to do a “the kid is a better seller than Mike Levy” Joke but even I’m not that evil.

  19. “we’ve never been in the same situation,”

Well, Benoit (and many other guys for that matter) chose to be in that situation, is not as if someone put a gun into his head to join the wrestling world, he could have walked away.

Steroids can and are used to help in some medical treatments, but under strict medical supervision, most of the wrestlers/bodybuilders get their substance in the black market and many are not even legal for use in humans, the article paints a picture that condones the use of these substances, which is unacceptable.

BTW, I can not feel sorry for guys who work 3 shows per week or less (good for about 30 minutes) while millions of kids work 20 hours per day in some sweatshop.

The Benoit thing was bad enough, but the apologetic following he has in the Mexican forums have turned me off even more from them, as C said, I’m quite comfortable with judging Chris Benoit: Fuck him.

  20. Its pefectly fine if you disagree and its nice to see how you’re turning my opinion into a racial slurp.

I didnt want you to agree with me but rather to see what i was trying to achieve when i was writing the post. I enjoy the sport and i know they’re just humans like us, i dont expect them to be perfect but just to do what they do best and thats perform in the ring.

  21. Radio guys are talking of a “nearly 2000” attendance for tonight’s ArMex show… good thing that the anniv show made people talk about CMLL giving lots of exposure.

  22. hehehehe IWRG might have outdrawn them for the Scorpio show!

Unrelated: Chui, I found a funny thing while searching old DVDVR posts for great Barnett quotes. This is from you though:

Me: “If you believe Meltzer, Banderas will come back from the dead known as ‘The Messiah’ and lead a new heel faction around Rey De Reyes time.”

Chui: “Translation: Banderas won’t be back. Hehehe”

    :P

  23. Whoa, I was right:

He was never dead. It´s Mesias. The faction wasn’t new. Has not been called Banderas again, so banderas wasn’t back.

  24. 2) Flash, Metalik, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Loco Max, Skandalo
    Tecs won.
    3) Hijo del Fantasma, Mictlán, Valiente vs Olímpico, Sangre Azteca, Virus
    Tecs again.
    4) Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Misterioso II vs Averno, Mephisto, Terrible
Ephesto turned on Dragon Rojo Jr and Misterioso, who knows who won.
    5) Black Warrior, Blue Panther, Último Guerrero vs Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V
Seems like a 2-0 after VIII fouled Panther.

  25. @René Flores: Your conclusion in your article (and you’ve repeated it here) is that we shouldn’t/can’t judge what other people are doing, which I would think this would extend to meaning we couldn’t judge what other people are saying. I disagree with the first premise, so I’m okay with it.

    >whats their use for sports and just try to clarify the
    >water for people that thinks steroids are super hero
    >pills / shots.

Which is a good thing to do, because I’m sure that’s not all that clear for kids that age. if you stuck with that, explained in more detail, I might have enjoyed the article more. But I think you combined about 8 articles about steroids into one short one and it didn’t flow well.

I disagreed with your conclusion and the main thrust of your argument, but that actually wasn’t my problem. You clearly want to say “steroids are a necessity of this business” but you didn’t build well enough to that conclusion. The Hermes Franka argument would’ve been perfect for that, instead of ending up here in the comments. I objected more on persuasive argument grounds than anything.

Since you defending your conclusion anyway, I still don’t really by into it much. For one, here in the US at the very least, the doctor wouldn’t be suggesting steroids (or HGH probably in that situation), because it’d probably be illegal. At the point, if a fighter got the drugs and started using, it’s a legal issue and the ethical ones are moot. Even his use did go under the radar, there’s enough drug testing in MMA and particularly UFC that they’d be risking penalties far worse than missing the fight in the first place. If you’re in a high enough level fight where it makes a difference if you miss a show due to injury or not, it’s not worth the risk missing more due to suspension at this point.

I know you present the quicker injury rehab as just one example, but I think it’s worth noting that’s probably a very small percentage of those who are/have used PEDs. The vast majority are using it simply to gain an edge on the man they’re fighting, or the man they’re being compared about, or the man they’re afraid is about to overtake them.

I think if everyone calls you a thief based on your neighborhood, you quickly realize it’s not a positive thing. You may choose to steal because of it, but you still know it’s ethically incorrect – you’re just using the people as justification.

If everyone kept taunting, let’s say, Groon XXX, that he was on steroids but only then started using them, he can blame the fans, but he must’ve known there was something wrong with doing it. If Groon was on PEDs from the moment he showed up in AAA, hypothetically, he’d be using the job as the justification. Whenever, he makes a choice somewhere along the line to sacrifice some moral high ground to get ahead. Not to survive, because he could’ve just continued doing what he was doing before – no one is entitled to lucha libre, no one is entitled to be a MMA fighter – but to be one bit better in comparison to the other guys Antonio Pena could’ve picked for that role. In that case, I’d have no sympathy for Groon’s plight, since he took a shortcut to get there, and not a lot for any future medical issues resolving from that situation, because he took himself down that path.

Starting an article with a Chris Benoit picture destroys any argument you make in 2008. About anything. Probably will keep doing so until 2018. Benoit’s not the only known PED user – why not go with Rey Jr.? Or Josh Barnett? Or [other MMA fighter I can’t think of here?]

@Rob: Triad isn’t dead after all.

  26. “Has not been called Banderas again, so banderas wasn’t back”

They do announce him as “Ricky Banderas, El Mesias” often. :)

  27. i think you’re right and i could of had developed my article more, and there is allways room to get better.

I dont know nothing about wrestling (other than the Benoit steroid scandal) and the superluchas fan arent so into the UFC that they know guys like Hermes Franca(it was kind of pointless to have him in the article).

Yeah i did a buch of steroid articles in just one, because im not trying to educate people about steroids, but explain to them that steroids aren’t super hero pills, and that they have medical use too.

The truth is, steroids are used in any sport, as testing for it is very expensive and you have plenty of time to cicle them if you’re not fighting.

Fighters, wrestlers, and most high demand sports tend to live with a lot of painkillers, alcohol, and stuff to live thru that much pain, most of them dont have good education, and for them the only way to make a living is to do what they do best, fight, wrestle, etc…

my point is, lets stop judging them, and enjoy them.

  28. WWE’s new developmental promotion in Tampa. Keith goes to every show. WWE hasn’t been involved with OVW in a year.

  29. Oh. Well I guess RFC wrote the wrong fed down. Either way, wherever Vince has that machine that pumps out the roidheads is where Sico Jr. is heading.
