two old men annoyed with each other

El Dandy vs Satanico (ACM, 02/09): [GREAT] Technical style match which briefly turned into a brawl but settled back down in the second half. The technical stuff was really good, but the brawling was better and would’ve liked to see more of that. Everything they did is still very good, it’s more that it’s just a bit slower than what they used to be and they probably could’ve taken it longer in younger days. Everything felt like a battle and holds were earned. Did not like the referee trying to get himself over with the big leap at the finish.

Hijo de Dos

Hijo De Dos Caras vs Hijo del Lizmark, Trauma I, Súper Nova, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Hijo del Fishman, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Fresero Jr. [La Rebelión de Los Juniors] (02/16 IWRG): [OK] Made the list because it appeared to be ridiculous. It was, but not a particularly interesting way. This turned out to be a battle royal (no one has to take a pin and they still have to do gimmicked finishes) that was worked like a brawl. Camera work really has to be good to keep up with that sort of thing, and this is LAS so all the good brawling was missed so to he could work in the stretching in the ring. Hijo de Dos Caras was laying waste to Fishman and Mascara, but it was both half on screen. Also, the idea was to eliminate everyone form the ring to set up teams, but everyone walking in and out of the ring to brawl back and forth made it very unclear that was the point until Fresero threw himself out. Even after that, you had Super Nova trying to do top rope moves onto guys who were already eliminate (and injured), so it’s not like the participants were even that concerned with the rules. Dos to take a foul before he was eliminated and made sure you knew he was only out because he took a devastating low blow, that kind of silliness. There was no story they were telling here, everyone would brawl with the guy they were facing, then turn 90 degrees and fight that guy instead. Crowd got into Trauma I and Super Nova as the final two, which led them to stop wrestling and playing to the crowd for a while. Crowd was more into Trauma, though the match was set up for him to be a rudo, and their fight wasn’t much unless you’re into plastic chair violence. No idea why both of them were going for submissions in what was a over the top battle royal until that point, but apparently it just stopped being one at the end. SKIP.

Vangellys special

Rush vs Vangellys (Puebla, 02/17): [good] Begain as an equal fight, but turned into about as one sided as you’er going to see a match. Vangellys got in more of his big spots than Negro Casas ultimately did, and Rush didn’t punish Vangellys the same way, but he did kind of just ignore everything Vangellys did. Vangellys did the spear thru the ropes, Rush is back on offense a few seconds later. Vangellys landed the top rope splash for the big near fall, Rush reverses the next whip to take back over. It was also as much a tecnico Rush as you’re going to get in 2014. He was sort of working that way, but the crowd was completely into him as a good guy (in a way that confused him when he didn’t get booed for posing.) This was a solid match but one where Rush wasn’t pushed.

Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente vs Cavernario, Felino, Mr. Niebla (02-24, Puebla): [OK/GOOD] Peste Negra assaulting the tencicos for 10 minutes before a very short lived comeback. This is all build up up to the title match next week, which probably should’ve been the only match I needed from this feud on this list – the beatdown is impactful to set up next week. About as one sided match as you’re going to see, rudos got put over strong.
