Stuka tope

Stuka Jr. © vs Maléfico for the Occidente Light Heavyweight Championship: not that interesting. Really the same CMLL formula title match – they had simpler moves because that’s more Malefico’s styles, but they still treated them as big moves for the sake of kickouts, and they had the usual assortment of dives. You don’t have to do big moves, but you have to do something and there was not much here. I figure the plan has to be for a local técnico to ultimately beat Malefico, but it would work better if he would look impressive in the first place.

Blue Panther, La Máscara, Solar I vs Gran Guerrero, Negro Navarro, Shocker: This match looked ill designed when it was announced, and turned out to be exactly that in execution. First fall ended with Gran Guerrero blowing Solar’s finish and then referee calling the submission before Solar had finished locking on his new hold; that was about the level of Gran Guerrero in this match. Shocker and La Mascara were too busy having their own feud to participate and that eventually over powers the rest of the match. Before it broke down, it did leave some time for good Negro Navarro versus Blue Panther and versus Solar, but there are many better places to see that and it’s pretty much over by the middle of the second fall. It’s quite a waste of them to have them be background players for this backwards feud.

we’re going to be able to make a great montage of Gran Guerrero blowing finishes by the end of the year

Atlantis vs Último Guerrero: I guess the story they’re telling here is they know each other so well that one mistake is all it takes for the other side to win. Or Ultimo Guerrero just loves (non-surprise) surprise finishes. This was another Ultimo Guerrero vs Atlantis match. They’ve done a few. I’m hoping there’s only one more. This was the match they can do in their sleep and might already have. They did add one or two new things, but UG checked off his required moves all the same. It’d be a trip if any of the 20 perennial near falls was ever actually a near fall; these matches are better the fewer you’ve seen of them. (Which may work great for the Anniversary audience.) This is a very easy to skip show.
