triple dive

Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Smaker vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Olímpico: Standard midcard trios match, with everyone breaking up a pin at the end. Dragon got his finish reversed in the first fall to set up him just getting in the third, a bit reverse from normal. Olímpico and Guerrero Maya mat wrestling early on was fun and that would be an interesting match up if Olímpico was 15 years younger. Smaker did not stand out much, but he was slow (and Delta is always slow on spots where he’s the third man in.) Pretty sure Olímpico pinned himself on the finish, not that it mattered.

Polvora his the wall

Máximo & Super Porky vs Kráneo & Pólvora: This obvious comedy match started with Máximo and Pólvora doing two minutes of generic mat wrestling, which had to win someone a bet. It, and this match, didn’t accomplish much more. I was never so happy to see Máximo kiss someone as when he kissed Pólvora in the third fall here, but it unfortunately was only part of totally unneeded near falls. There was on a little comedy in this one, but not enough to be good for that. It was also generally not bad enough to be funny, though there was a remarkable horrible imitation of a sunset flip in the third fall. Crowd was dead by the end of this – even if you believe all shows should have a variety of things to appeal to different audiences, this didn’t have enough of anything to count as part of a variety. Shouldn’t have aired.

monkey roll

Atlantis, Blue Panther, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero: Ultimo Guerrero seemed generally excited to face Blue Panther at the start of this match – and then I realized it was Gran Guerrero and it made more sense. I don’t believe Ultimo Guerrero has been excited about anything for years. Just single minded grim resolve for him. Standard Guerreros match, edited for time – they figured out they were going long – and with Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero out of play for the finish. Gran Guerrero was kind of better, but also telegraphing everything he did with Volador and using an submission where he didn’t seem to be hurting Blue Panther at all. It looks like UG and Atlantis are going to do the spot where UG trips Atlantis as he runs up the turnbuckle in every match, which is an extra pound for an odd man.

thru the ropes kneebar

Negro Casas vs Rush: It was so short that it was disappointing for a Rush/Negro match, though the last few minutes seemed like a dry run for the hair match (whenever it will happen.) Rush went after Negro’s knee in creative ways, which was interesting, but it didn’t work as well when Negro was right back up and running around to set up the intricate series of false finishes at the end. That part felt like training to see how many finisher avoidance spots they could do in a row without blowing up, but the powerbomb to end was pretty violent. The previews clips not actually shown in the match indicate there was a longer match here, though maybe not a lot longer one.
