space cadets descending from orbit

Ludxor, Niño Hamburguesa, Venum vs Carta Brava Jr., El Apache, Fresero Jr.: This link is really the last 3:30 of the opener and 3:30 of the segunda. This was mostly the técnico comeback and the finish. Ludxor and Piero both helping Niño climb the ropes and struggling when even doing that really was a problem. They could’ve used an edit there. Niño did not look much better when he wasn’t climbing and Fresero did some strange bumping around here.

Faby Apache, Jennifer Blake, Mascarita Sagrada, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Mamba, Mini Abismo Negro, Sexy Star, Taya Valkyrie: This week, Tirantes is actively evil (though only enough for comedy purposes.) This felt like even less than the other match because there were even more people in it. It was okay for the three minutes it lated, Pimpinela looked better than usual, and it reminded that these people exist, but nothing much else to get out of this.

don’t mess with Eterno, Mini Clown

Monsther Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Daga, Eterno, Steve Pain: Laughable finish, as Tirantes goes back to being completely interventionist evil by ignoring Texano running out and beating up Psycho Clown and Daga clocking Monsther Clown with a belt. And then Psycho Clown beat up Texano and Tirantes anyway. The rest of the match went very poorly for the rudos, made to look like jokes most of the way. Eterno broke up a long stretch of Psycho Circus offense just so they could set up a spot where Mini Clown threw confetti at him and then got powerbombed. (Mini Clown was the star of the match, not the guy about to be in the title match.) This was so bad for Anarquia – who really should’ve been La Secta or the Infernal Rockers instead of a team AAA seemed interested in a few weeks ago – this was so bad for Anarquia that when Daga grabbed the belt, I hoped that meant he was just leaving. Otherwise, stripped out of the greater context and ignoring the finish, this was a fine Psycho Circus squash in front of a loud crowd.

Mini Clown destruction was the one strong point for Anarqua

Alan Stone, Axel, El Elegido vs Hijo del Fantasma, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Texano Jr.: The rudo equivalent to the last match. The tencicos got their offense in late instead of early and there wasn’t the nutty finish, but it was all about the same story, with one trio being treated as a much bigger deal than the other. That makes more sense here, since Axel, Elegido and Alan are pretty much irrelevant. Fantasma sold big for Elegido near the end, and Elegido sold Fantamsa’s spinebuster as if he had died.

Fenix & Pentagon are crazy

Cibernético, Fénix, Psycho Clown vs Averno, Chessman, Pentagón Jr.: Strong reintroduction of Místico. It must’ve come out of nowhere for those who just follow the show thru TV, but he not only got to get in a lot of offense but they stuck with the celebration for a few minutes to make it more meaningful. (You had enough time to call someone and tell them to switch channels.) They didn’t do La Mistica yet, which is probably a good idea on Avenro’s first night, but the big dive to the floor was impressive enough. Better AAA main event than usual as well. Fenix looked outstanding, both with Pentagon and with Averno. He finally figured out the right time for the handspring cutter, too. This is one where seeing the match makes a difference; Fenix really wasn’t hurt much by losing here. Averno looked solid and fit in well, but it would’ve been nice to get a bigger reaction from the wrestlers – the announcers sold it big (and did a good job with Místico running in, and on the show in general in their first time out) but the luchadors didn’t seem that surprised. Maybe they read the internet?
