AAA #846 (08/16)

taped 07/20, aired 08/16.

Battle royale was just okay was far as those go. Still wonder they keep insisting on calling it a Ruleta Rusa when no one was advancing via loss or getting shot in the head. That’s just false advertising. It was kinda neat how they manged to fit it in all one unbroken segment, despite going over 20 minutes.

Minis matches here were almost nothing and I suppose this whole tournament will be the same. I don’t quite understand why they’re bothering to do this – it’s hard to believe we’ll be getting so many minis matches after this tournament to require a title match when we’ve barely been getting any up to this point.

If all the AAA departures mean more Pirates matches, I think I’m going to be okay. I think we’ll all be okay.

Ozz’s impending turn on Mesias may have surprased Bucanero vs Koslov as my favorite storyline which may only exist in my own mind.

When did Dailymotion start allowing up to 20 minute long clips? That may be handy later.

  1. I didn’t care much for most of this show. Mascarita seems too scared to try anything and barely got over on the moonsault. The Legion vs. Chessman/Mexican Powers match was a total mess.

  2. Aero Star was LIGHTS OUT on this show. Ranks right up there with the greatest one-man shows I’ve seen in any match this decade. His ending sequence leading to the springboard blind torpedo was one of the most innovative things I’ve seen done in a ring in a long time. He even did a spot that looked so simple to the average eye (second running frankensteiner on Pirata’s kid) but you have to re-watch it to see he steps on Pirata Jr.’s leg, does a 180 counter-clockwise turn and then hits the frankensteiner. WHAT – THE – FUCK? It’s things like that which seperate the good flyers from the great flyers.

As for Mascarita… sadly he wasn’t going for a moonsault – that was the dive he was attempting. With his lack of ability and the fact he can’t get over in an established gimmick I have to assume the person under the mask is a relative of someone in AAA or they’d have replaced him by now. I know the current Mascarita Dorada was considered pretty shitty when he started out as the new Mascarita in February 2000 but he improved within 5-6 months while this Mascarita has had almost a year now and is still unable to climb the ropes properly or do even ONE original spot of his own. It’s very disapointing to watch being a fan of the mini’s.:(

  3. Man, those Pirates a real fun unit. Almost reminds me of Los Nuevos Infernales in ’99 with Satanico commanding and directing the innovative and neat triple team beatdowns.

Elegido makes me appreciate Fabian just that tiny little bit more O:
