Mephisto injury, Rey Escorpion defeats Atlantis, En Busca de un Idolo

CMLL (MON) 06/16/2014 Arena Puebla [Periodico Enfoque]
1) Águila Egipcia, Black Tiger, Tigre Rojo Jr. b Fuerza Chicana, Guerrero Espacial, Toro Bill Jr.
2) Astral, Asturiano, Bam Bam, Meyer, Stukita b Blue Center, Demus 3:16, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito, Saurón [cibernetico]
Cibernetico came down to Asturiano versus Pequneo Warrior, with Warrior pulling Asturiano’s mask to win. Mask vs hair challenges.
3) Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Zeuxis DQ Estrellita, Goya Kong, Princesa Sugheit
Rudos took 1/3, the last when Esterllita accidentally dropkicked Tirantes for the DQ.
4) Kráneo, Ripper, Shocker b La Máscara, Marco Corleone, Stigma
Stigma replaced Rush. Shocker feuded with Mascara instead, fouling him and pulling his mask to win.
5) Rey Escorpión © b Atlantis [CMLL LH]
Rey Escorpion kept his title. 10th defense, second in this building recently.

Stigma replacing Rush is a bit of drop off, even in Puebla. Odd they did DQ in the women’s match since the matches around them were also going to have iffy finishes.

Tonight’s CMLL Arena Mexico main event was scheduled to be Mephisto defending the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship against Valiente, a rematch from about a month and a half in Guadalajara. That match is now off, because Mephisto suffered a knee injury while wrestling in Oaxaca over the weekend. There’s no word about how long Mephisto will be out., CMLL indicated he’d be a getting an MRI today. Knee injuries can sideline a wrestler for a few weeks to most of a year, as we just saw with Angel de Oro.

The title situation is a bit peculiar. CMLL’s had the champion forfeit the title to the challenger in other situations where the champion was hurt and couldn’t defend (that’s how Rush & La Mascara won the tag titles), but maybe the ruling is CMLL announced the change ahead of time so Mephisto’s not obligated to give the belt up. CMLL may be guessing Mephisto will be back soon, and they may want to keep Mephisto with a belt so he’s less likely to have thoughts about joining his friend Averno elsewhere.

If Mephisto is out for any significant amount of time, it’ll be the second championship in limbo. Mistico’s still the CMLL World Middleweight Champion, and there’s no sign of anything happening with that belt.

The new main event is a random trios match: Ephesto, Gran Guerrero and Negro Casas vs Fuego, Valiente and Volador. Cachorro is among those added to the card, so all four En Busca de un Idolo finalists will be in action.

The En Busca de un Idolo standings, as of 10AM this morning

82747 Hechicero
76273 Cavernario
67424 Cachorro
54891 Dragon Lee

It appears CMLL might have done something to block ballot stuffing – maybe limiting to only 100 votes per IP address – but only after Cavernario gained tens of thousands of votes yesterday. It’s impossible to figure out how CMLL is going to handle math at any time, but my estimate is Cavernario has enough votes to be second only if they give him his missing points from last week. I guess it would be Cachorro otherwise, but I’m really not sure. CMLL might have add votes to Cavernario themselves, but they can much easier select the second finalist by doing the votes->points conversation any way they’d like.

AAA’s television show announced they’d be taping TV on 07/05 in Nayarit (the RingRock show) and 07/21 in Tehuacan. There’s a weekend off there, but they’ll be ahead of schedule so it all works out and the resort show should be a one week taping. Tehuacan is four TV shows out from TripleMania; that’s a place where a big angle might go.

Faby is concered about Taya; Faby’s a better wrestler than Taya and a better ruda than Taya if she needs to be. Faby’s more concerned about Sexy Star getting involved, and hopes the rudas are too over confident to bother cheating. There’s also a Faby in a video interview saying the same sort of thing.

Terra’s preview for Friday lists all the matches as airing – but that’s probably because someone’s just told the person doing it to list the first four matches as airing and he doesn’t know it’ll be different. It’s almost like CMLL is bad at communicating.

Lineup

CMLL (MON) 06/23/2014 Arena Puebla
1) Black Tiger, Robin, Star Jr. vs Espíritu Maligno, King Jaguar, Rey Apocalipsis
2) Asturiano vs Pequeño Warrior
3) Sagrado, Stigma, Tritón vs Morphosis, Olímpico, Virus
4) La Máscara, Marco Corleone, Rush vs Kráneo, Negro Casas, Shocker
5) Máscara Dorada, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys

Mascara Dorada exists again! Hope he’s enjoying his time off. Possibly a week or two from a Shocker/Mascara match. Warrior in a singles match seems like an iffy idea, but maybe Asturiano can just win to end the feud and they’ll give him something better to do. Rey Apocalipsis is a new name – I don’t see him on the Puebla indies either. It doesn’t quite make sense to have a Rey Apocalipsis when you already have an Apocalipsis, but Apcocalipsis is down to about one match every three weeks – he’s the one who should be concerned here.
