Averno, who’s been with CMLL since 1996, is officially done with the company according to CMLL representative Jose Luis Feliciano. His last match was last night’s Reyes del Aire. There was no acknowledgement on the show, but it does sound like the word was going around that would be it. Konnan mentioned it on his podcast, as noted last night.

Averno’s s headed to AAA, as has been discussed since Sin Cara returned to Mexico. He may have to get a new name, since CMLL owns the rights to Averno, but it sounds like he’s free to show up as soon as he wants. It’s very unusual for CMLL to announce someone’s left the company. This is a lot more direct and smoother than Sin Cara’s departure. Perhaps they believe he’s going to AAA as a member of Consejo and want to make it clear he’s not with them, or maybe they don’t want people promoting CMLL vs AAA matches in general (and so should skip the ChilangaMask results!) The one thing I find surprising about the last couple weeks is there was no tease of Sin Cara or Averno on the Mexico City taping. They went out of their way to tease Sin Cara before, but nothing when he actually was closer to being able to show up. Maybe everything was just not settled until the last few days.

Speaking of Sin Cara, he turned up on AAA’s show in Tapachula yesterday. If he’s already doing that, he’s likely turning up Friday in Minatitlán on AAA’s TV taping.

CHILANGA MASK (SUN) 04/27/2014 Arena Lopez Mateos [Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), Estrellas del Ring, Terra (main)]
1) Herodes Jr. & Mr. Niebla DCOR Trauma I & Trauma II
Opener so Niebla could get to Arena Mexico. Short brawl before the countout, though they kept fighting after. Niebla proposed a mask match with Trauma II.
2) Psico Kid b Dorado Jr., Éxtasis, Ironía, Atomik Star, Electro Boy, Karma, Maverick
Psico beat Karma. No Dragon Celestial (MIA – injured?) Psico beat Karma.
3) Sensei b Yakuza
Sensei won the battle of karate characters
4) Arkángel de la Muerte b Rocky Santana
Arkangel won via foul. Santana demanded a super libre or mask vs hair rematch.
5) Arez & Demus 3:16 b Eterno & Rey Krimen and Sádico & Tornado (DF) and Astro Rey Jr. & Magnus
Eterno was Rey Krimen’s mystery partner, which meant CMLL and AAA guys were in the same match. Reports indicate the world did not end.
6) Silueta b Estrella Explosiva, Chik Tormenta, Princesa Sugheit, Cristal, Reina Isis
Princesa Sugehit replaced Zeuxis (injury) and took the loss to Silueta.
7) Belial & Impulso b Freelance & Oro Jr. and Fulgor I & Fulgor II
No Dave or Jake Crist, with Oro Jr. and Freelance (the ex-Orito) replacing them and taking the loss to Impulso & Belial. Said to be very good.
8) Black Terry b Aero Boy
Said to be a very good match with Aero Boy refraining from hardcore attacks. Aero Boy asked for a rematch, which Terry said he’d if the promoter wanted to do it.
9) El Dandy DQ Satánico
Dandy’s retirement match (in DF). Satanico faked a foul to draw the DQ. Crowd was not happy with Satnaico. Dandy gave a farewell speech to close the show.

Clips will air on Tercera Caida. LuchaTV has post match interviews with El Dandy (not happy with Satanico) and Satanico (does not regret cheating to win.)

IWRG (SUN) 04/27/2014 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Dragón Blanco & Sky Ángel b Power Bull & Skull Metal
Skull Metal’s regular show debut, but he lost in straight falls.
2) Alfa & Omega b Ciclon Black & Kaling Black
3) Anubis Black, Imposible, Picudo Jr. b Ángel Del Amor, Látigo, Metaleon
Bloody match. Rudos won, but Angel del Amor wants a shot at against Impossible.
4) Guerrero Mixtico, Hip Hop Man, Tony Rivera b Astro Rey Jr., Diva Salvaje, Dr. Cerebro
Neza Boys took 2/3, Mixtico tripping up Cerebro after being eliminated to give Tony the win.
5) Apolo Estrada, El Hijo del Diablo, Eterno DQ Hijo De Dos Caras, Relámpago, Veneno
Rudos took 1/3. Diablo hit a referee with a weapon and tossed it to Veneno, who was caught with it for the DQ. Veneno and Diablo talked about a hair vs hair match.

Veneno & Diablo seems like a toss up, and maybe not a match I want to see.

Guerrero Negro Jr. updated his Facebook status to say he’s left CMLL. It’s very unspecific, and could mean anything from “hope they have a replacement for the tournament” to “he’s out of contract and just going freelance”. He also has CMLL listed as a high school, which is hilarious.

Speaking of CMLL, I was told the contract Espiritu Negro signed was probably for a weekly guarantee and a number of appearances per week (where appearances may or may not be matches.) Those CMLL deals were said to exist previously, but I had been told only the very top guys were under those kind of deals. This time, I was told someone more in the middle on the totem pole had previously been under the same sort of deal, so it’s reasonable Espiritu Negro got the same.

Oro Azul defeated Black Xtreme in a mask match in Arena Coliseo San Luis Potosi. Black Xtreme is Francisco Javier, 8 years a luchador. He’s sort of unmasked here.

This week’s lucha libre magazine covers.

Today’s Puebla show has La Mascara and Rey Escorpion in a lightning match, which seems likely to set up a title match soon. The main event is Negro Casas, Ripper and Shocker versus Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone and Rush. Rush may be too distracted by Shocker and Casas to properly not get along with his partners.

The El Halcon online magazine has relaunched at http://elhalconnet.hol.es/ – only it seems to be down most of the times I go to check it. They had an article on Dos Caras in this issue.

Segunda Caida reviews Shocker vs Rush vs Negro Casas.

There a tour bus/lucha libre show combination in Guadalajara for Kid’s Day.

Hijo de Dr. Wagner, Hijo de LA Park and Pequeno Pierrothito will be in Washington DC on 05/04 as part of Cinco de Maya celebrations.

Lineup

DTU (SUN) 05/18/2014 Monte Vaqueros, Salamanca, Guanajuato
1) ? vs ??
locals
2) Energy vs Optimus, Gremlin, Vengador, Kalibus, Castigador, Galaxy, Maremoto Jr., Dragus
3) Jimmy, Kevin, Tony vs Artikus, Lanzeloth, Rocky Lobo
4) Dance Boy vs Slayer Pack, Jhonky, Demente Extreme, Príncipe Halcón, Black Fire
5) Shane Strickland vs Flamita, Kaleth, Ángel del Misterio, Crazy Boy, Rey Celestial
6) Jinzo vs Septimo Dragon, Pesadilla, Drastik Boy [DTU AI]
Jinzo is champion
7) Chica Ye-Ye & Violento Jack vs Cíclope & Miedo Extremo and Ángel o Demonio & Ovett

Missed the lineup going thru the DTU cards. Flamita returns, gets shuffled into multiman matches the entire tour. ChilangaMask has done a much better job of figuring out these cards need singles matches to spotlight people (though the DTU strategy seems to involve getting as many people on the show as possible.)
