thru the legs wheelbarrow armdrag?

Flyer & Oro Jr. vs Akuma & Espanto Jr.: They’re back to standard opening matches. Rudos were more interesting than the técnicos here; Espanto and Akuma had an unexpectedly good partnership in the second fall with plenty of stuff to do, while Oro has settled into a routine (though the springboard tope is still new and cool.) No idea how the comeback was supposed to happen but not sure the people involved knew either. Flyer, vis his use of cross armbreakers and front crackers, will either be Magnus’ new best friend or greatest rival.

dropkick airball

Pegasso, Star Jr., Stigma vs Espiritu Negro, Guerrero Negro Jr., Hijo del Signo: Our second straight match where the comeback was confusing; this time, it seemed much clear that the young técnicos were late and lost and the fall careened to a finish as a result. Star Jr. had the roughest match so far. The backdrop into the ropes might have no been his fault (would seem to be more about where the rudos set up), but there was plenty of other stuff not going right with him. Hijo del Signo appeared to screw up the finish to the match, so it wasn’t just one guy having a bad night. Bundling this many new guys together means matches tend to be more prone to flaws, but at leas they’re sort of interesting.

backdrop too close to the ropes

Rey Cometa, Sagrado, Super Porky vs Pierroth, Tiger, Vangellys: I’d rather watch these shows live, but one advantage of watching these after the fact is when Brazo de Plata dizzily slumps down in the corner, you know it’s “only” a nose injury and not something much worse. I’m actually fairly certain they’d still show it if it was far worse, but also know I wouldn’t be watching it. Tiger did kick Porky before he was hurt, but that looked to the chest and Pierroth had already hit Porky in the face hard. (All the action was away from the camera.) Match was ordinary up to that point and everyone was lost after. Third fall was the usual hurried bit to get done as quick as possible.

corner topes (or at least one of them)

Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Cavernario, Herodes Jr., Mr. Niebla: fine match between the two teams with not a lot to remember it by. Herodes looked like a better fit here than he has in some other matches. Delta can’t do the surprise spear near as well as Maya. This is not exactly the most surprising news. The Atlantis/Niebla feud keeps reoccurring; if CMLL was a place where stories might be threaded together, that’d set up a national trios title match nicely, but this feels more like usual randomness.

rope walk headscissors

La Máscara, Máximo, Tritón vs Averno, Boby Zavala, Mephisto: Longest match on the show, which worked well because it turned out to be the best match on the show and gave the two younger guys plenty of time to do stuff in the third fall. Both did well with it, Triton looking sharp with his flying and Zavala having some good rudo moments. La Mascara is not really interesting, is not really trying to be interesting, has his fans, but not matches I want to see. Averno’s got to stop doing the bit where his friends hold a técnico for him to dropkick thru the ropes. It always leaves him alone in the ring and gets him beat! The only person not starting this match in a black shirt was Bobby Zavala. Look, I’m not trying to see people’s nipples, but it’s getting kind of absurd.
