Gran Alternativa, AAA in Gimansio Juan de la Barrera, AULL/Costa Rica

AAA announced another taping: 02/21 in Mexico City in Gimansio Olimpico Juan de la Barrera. It’s continuing a trend of AAA not exactly announcing their tapings in order. This one subtitled is listed “El Regreso A Casa Con Una Gran Sorpresa”. No one’s saying Sin Cara, but that would fit and Mexico City would be the place to introduce him. Jeff Jarrett is among the AAA wrestlers shown on the teaser poster, which would mean back to back tapings for him; figure him on Rey de Reyes as well. No full card out yet. Maybe it’ll appear after Sunday’s taping?

My best guess at the TV schedule is Toluca airs just this weekend, Ecatepec the next two weekends, and this DF taping would make TV on 03/01. Either this taping or Iraputo is a double week taping (or both are and Rey de Reyes airs on a longer delay.)

CMLL traditionally has the winner of the Gran Alternativa in the main event the week after the tournament, but might be prompted to do something different for 02/21.

Tonight’s CMLL show has the return of Marco Corleone. It’s his first Arena Mexico match since October, a foot injury brought on from a previous injury return. He sounds like he’s back to 100% on Twitter. Marco mentions to CMLL Gaceta that he wants to win the trios titles back, beat Mr. Niebla, make it on to Dos Leyendas and support Rush – any enemy of Rush is an enemy of his. Marco teams with Sombra & the also returning Thunder vs Hijos del Averno

Tonight also has the second block of the Gran Alternativa. They’ve got a good snap shot of each participant, which I’ve typed into a table for some reason:

Weird that Cavernario doesn’t have Satanico or Mascara Magica or anyone else known to be around Arena Coliseo Guadalajara listed. Those list of trainers often change, with people listed and not listed sometimes for political reasons. Hechicero is such a ringer, they don’t even have a picture for him. I’m rooting for him, but if they’re seriously going to do a Nuevo Peste Negra with Herodes and Cavernario in Tuesday main events, then one of them should win and Shocker/Herodes seems more likely for size/build reasons. Shocker/Rush and UG/Atlantis are the two rivalries which seem likely to be drawn together during this feud.

I have no idea if this tournament will air. I find not having any idea annoying. Compare that to the FantasicaMania shows, where every show started out with pictures of every match that would air. That’s so much better. Terra, outside of a week here or there, doesn’t seem to have the ability to put up graphics, which is a bit sad but there are still solutions. CMLL has edcanes, who are lovely and have proven the ability to hold objects for display. Get a white board, write only the matches which will air on the white board, and give us a 10 second shot of the edecan holding the white board. (And/or post it on Twitter and Facebook before the show!) That’s all I’m asking, and it would make the product better.

Estrellas del Ring has an interview with AULL/Arena Lopez Mateos promoter Hector Guzman. He’s got big plans for 2014 – they’re expanding to Costa Rica! They did a tag title back and forth with a couple Costa Rican wrestlers last year, which probably started the ball rolling. He also says they’re creating women’s singles and tag titles in April. They’re also planning an a tryout show on 02/16 with trainees from their school and others where the best might get booked on the regular shows.

Brain-Magazine in France has an interview Casandro, Magno and Medico Asesino along with referee Orlando Jimenez and a local masked man. It’s good, but also weird because Magno & Medico are pushing how “lucha libre” is so totally different than “wrestling.” Those Washington lucha libre promoters need to bring them in. Magno explains that “unlike the champions in WWE, no results are determined in advance in lucha libre.”

LuchaWorld has a recap of 01/30/14 AAA and this week’s TerceraCaida.

Guerrero Maya Jr. talks more about his 10th Anniversary and his match with Black Terry.

Mano Negra feels lucha libre will never reach the heights of previous eras because the wrestlers don’t have the proper basic skills and are exposed by television. He and Coloso Colosetti also talk about El Santo.

Ohtani’s Jacket writes about Virus vs Titan.
