Nothing much notable about the main except Gronda looks more demon like and has furry boots now. Gronda beat Electro for the win, so they seem to want to do something with him (at least for one night.) Konnan and Roldan talked the usual talk before the match – the website says Konnan was “expelled again”, which says all that needs to be about the meaningfulness of these suspension angles so far.

Ultimo Gladiador was hurt by a Teddy Hart move in the semimain. Mexican Powers have lost a lot lately, and those extreme stables (HF2 included) are all drifting aimlessly at the moment. I’d expect they’ll end up in another hardcore match at Verano, but they’ve done zero so far since TripleMania except just random matchups.

Clowns keep on winning, Porky keeps on losing. Clowns are listed as winning 171, so their win streak has massively slowed down. The AAA note says the AAA record is 175 (which they appear to have just made up.) Perhaps they’re now only going to count TV wins, because 175 has to be an angle, not something they get credited for off screen. One would hope this means they’ve got everything between now at Verano booked out, so they know the Circus has exactly four more TV matches before announcing this number.

On the third try, the Morenos finally beat the Apaches. (I think Oriental fouled Apache and faked his own foul instead of just covering.) Based on going 1-1 in direct matchups, the Morenos want (and will get) a title shot. They clearly were going to do this match all along, it just reads as a very strange path to it. Morenos attacked the Apaches after the match, Fabi made the save, and challenged the Morenos to either a Mixed Tag title match of a Reina de Reinas title match. Or maybe both, with a female to be named (Ayako?). This’ll sort itself out soon.

After many months of close battles, Estrellita finally lost to one of her tops via wardrobe malfunction. She borrowed a t-shirt to finish the match.

Mini Charly Manson is the fifth wreslter to win the a first round match up, joining Mascarita Sagrada 2007, Mini Abismo Negro, Octagoncito, and Atomic Boy. That’s 4 tecnicos and 1 rudo, so perhaps Mini Charly will now be reset to the rudo side (at least for one match), and Mini Kenzo Suzuki has a fine shot of winning in their debut. The final of tournament will also take place at Verano de Escandalo – maybe they’ll do a six mini elimination match? We know nothing about this tournament besides these opening matches.

Counting them up, we’ve got 3 or 4 (Heavyweight, Minis, Reina de Reinas and/or Mixed Tag) title matches already planned for Verano de Escandalo.

FWIW, I’m counting just one more taping to be announced between the last one mention on TV (Monterrey, which would air on 09/07) and Verano de Escandalo (which takes place on 09/14 – come to think of it, they could air it live and just do a filler TV show if they wanted to. They probably don’t.)

  1. If AAA is really trying to copy ECW ’96 they’ll have to make an AAA Warfare tape and plug Estrellita losing her top about 20 times during their TV episodes.:P

I don’t understand the Apaches/Morenos deal at all unless Esther and her ginormus boobs are ready to return.

I still think Mascarita Divina is going over Mini Kenzo and the semis will see Mini Abismo over Mascarita, Octcito over Atomic Boy and Mini Charly over Mascarita Divina to set upo a 3 way final at Verano with the best minis on the roster.

I wonder who they’ll feed the Clowns at Verano if that’s where they are setting the record. Would be interesting to have them face Jack, Teddy and Legion member to be named since it’ll seem more important than beating Porky and two random tecnicos.

Verano is actually not shaping up too bad at all:
    – Ciber/Chessman
    – Morenos/Apaches
    – Mini’s final
    – Clowns vs ?
    – Gronda/Parka/someone/someone else vs typical Legion crew (if I was booking I’d have Aero Star win the Alas De Oro and do something here where like Gronda/Parka/Aero Star/Mascara Divina vs Electro/Konnan/Jack/Teddy)
    – Generic violence match with the 187 crew vs MexPowers vs Familia.

  2. @Rob: Rob according to your predicted Verano de Escandalo you say it’s not looking bad. That looks terrible, it’s not different than any other regular tv show.

  3. @Daniel: if they’re going to build to big matches by doing variations of that match, which most promotions will, it’s obviously going to look a lot like TV.

  4. First off, I apologize if this offends any female posters or anyone in particular: Estrellita pulls a Janet Jackson, huh? That woman got big breasts, so inevitably that was bound to happen.

    Have the Morenos turned rudo?

Can AAA limit the ECW style in some, if not all, of their matches?

Is AAA trying to kill off the Mexican Powers and have Juvi join lider & Nicho?

  5. I’m surprised Juvi and Nicho are still in AAA.

Yes, k.D.b, The Moreno’s seem to be rudo if yesterday’s show was correct. Oh and you know I can’t wait to see the Estrellita match.

  6. @Tim: You and me both Tim.

I am also surprised no Zorro, Cibernetico or Hell Brothers appearance at this show.

I agree, I’m shocked Juvi and Nicho are still employed.

  7. This was a last-minute added taping. In fact they announced the Madero show for this Friday before they even mentioned this as a taping the following week so I’m sure Ciber, Zorro and the HB’s were scheduled to appear elsewhere. Toluca shows seem to have been scaled down recently so it’s no surprise seeing a lineup like this.

  8. Geeky dive question here relating to the picture – has anyone ever used a space flying tiger drop before, only with a full corkscrew moonsault at the end of it?

Even Jack Evans only seems to ever hit the Sasuke special #2, and a really ugly one at that.

It would be awesome if someone could do it well. :)

  9. Jack has done it himself although very rarely which disapointing b/c I am sick to death of his regular SFTD. It’s a cool dive but he’s capable of so much more that seeing him do it over and over again is painful. It’d be like if Aero Star just one day began only using pescados and La Mascara speed tope suicidas.:)

M-Dogg 20 also uses a SFTD tornillo variation as one of his regular dives.

  10. On the ElMarinete board they said the women’s match wasn’t shown, presumably due to Estrellita’s incident.
