Lucha Azteca TV show notes

Lucha Azteca is a CMLL show airing matches from the Friday night taping on Azteca America in the US. The show generally will air 2pm CT on Saturdays.

Today’s debut show aired matches from 10/25 Arena Mexico show

  • Blue Panther, Máximo, Mistico vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero
  • Máscara Dorada vs Niebla Roja [lightning]
  • Tama Tonga, Terrible, Vangellys vs La Sombra, Rush, Thunder

It’s close to but not exactly what’s airing on Fox Sports. Lucha Azteca is 42 minutes and Fox Sports can be as long as 50. Azteca subbed in a shorter lightning match for a trios this week to accommodate the shorter time and may have cut a couple minutes from the opener. I’d expect there will be weeks where they just air two matches to fit the time.

Lucha Azteca has network specific introductions, graphics and bumpers, but the match announcing is the same as on Fox and Terra. The show is broadcast in Standard Definition – there are no black bars or aspect ratio messiness.

I’ll be posting these shows as a complete files on Tuesdays. All the matches appear to be ones which I would have already uploaded to YouTube – either from the Terra airing (where they’d be complete and usually in better video quality) or from Fox Sports – so these won’t be up via that channel unless something strange happens.

This is an interesting show if you aren’t or can’t watch the Fox Sports show. It’s not a lot new if you do get it. (Since the crossover of people who can see both shows is about the same amount of people who visit the website, it’s generally a worthwhile show for most people.)

Edit: The show IS in HD – for people who live in El Paso or Los Angeles, the only locations which have HD Azteca America affiliates. Hopefully they bring HD to other places.
