recap

taped 2013-08-06 @ Arena Mexico

Cholo-legdrop

Molotov & Sensei vs Cholo & Ramstein: Crowd didn’t like Molotov and didn’t react to much else. I didn’t react too much anything at all, so I guess they were better than me. Very much the forgettable opening match.

no diving headscissors on Puma

Pegasso, Starman, Tritón vs Namajague, Puma, Shigeo Okumura: A great showcase for the great new trio – Puma, Namajague and Okumura! I’m going to be so sad if Ishii is on the anniversary show and Puma doesn’t make it, because Puma was probably the best guy here or the only one who didn’t seem to have an issue. This was a fun match, but it had a surprising amount of errors. Tecnicos seem to have some teamwork spots, but only looks a little bit more than a thrown together team. Their opposition was a smooth running destroying machine, especially near the ends of the falls they won.

Mascara Dorada goes for a ride

Máscara Dorada, Super Porky, Thunder vs Euforia, Felino, Pierroth: just save yourself some effort and fast forward thru everything that’s not Mascara Dorada in the ring. There was no hope for the other four guys, but Dorada was at an incredible level when he gets to do his stuff. I’m not sure why they have Pierroth and Thunder working together, but they got to cut out the big dive if Pierroth’s got to catch it like he has (putting his head down, have the six foot guy land on his neck and then fall hard to the ground.)

Mascara Dorada can not be stopped

Diamante Azul vs Vangellys for the NWA World Light Heavyweight Championship: CMLL singles matches, especially with the guy we’re going to see next week, often feature long periods of laying on the mat in the third fall. It’s supposed to be that they’re tired, but then they pop back up and run around fresh, so it doesn’t work. This match had those rest periods, but I really believed them here, because both guys looked exhausted for the last five minutes and maybe a little more. Asking them to go more than 10 minutes by themselves seemed to be too much, or at least it was at the pace they were trying to go. Match on paper seemed like it could a big struggle, but was actually perfectly fine most of the way with a few stray hitches (did someone forget the second fall finish?) Azul seems like a better guy for trios matches, and Vangelis looked a lot better when he was working with smaller guys and didn’t have to carry as much of the action himself.

takedown defense

Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión: Not much of a match, and not even much of a brawl to justify not having a match. Just an extended angle to set up the singles matches next week. These two teams can have good brawls or good team versus team matches, but there wasn’t one here. They didn’t seem to know they were doing Niebla Roja & Dragon Rojo in two weeks here, because they did nothing to set it up here. This was weak.
