Shocker takes it over the rail

Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Rush, Shocker vs Mr. Niebla, Terrible, Universo 2000: Rayo showcase, which was enough to let him do his spots but also enough to expose that he shouldn’t be doing these spots on a regular. This was mostly Universo/Rayo guys working against each other and other four separated. That’s probably the best way to go for what the fans wanted to see on that night, but it didn’t seem like Rush & Terrible got much from associated with them. There was a significant edit in the third fall, and I’d much rather have that here than the other match.

Okumura double crushed

Rey Cometa & Stuka Jr. vs Namajague & Shigeo Okumura, mask/hair vs mask/hair: EXCELLENT. One of my favorite matches of the year. They had an Arena Mexico crowd that didn’t seem to take to them as main eventers when the match started, overcame some early match coldness, and had the fans totally sucked in by the last 450 splash. There were enough call backs to previous matches to reward people who’ve been paying attention to this feud – the Brillo Cometa hitting the wrong guy this time, Okumura again distracting a referee to set up a pinfall, and the Spanish Fly not breaking anyone’s brains – but it was still easily accessible for the people who were coming into it cold. The match was missing a really moment where the rudos might convincingly win, and then double german suplex spot happened. (Namajague reversing the ‘rana late and both shaking as if an ending pinfall was great too.) Okumura was kind of in the background, but Cometa, Stuka and Namajague both had big star moments. It was really cool to see Namajague get to finish it for his team, and finishing well. This got over so well at the end that it’s a shame there’s no big follow up to come and these guys are sinking back to the midcard but it at least stands as proof that you can get the Arena Mexico fans to get into midcard guys in big matches if done right.

no brain injuries this time!
