1) Astral, Bam Bam, Último Dragoncito b Mercurio, Pequeño Nitro Universo, Pequeño Olímpico
2) Diamante, Fuego, Tritón b Raziel, Sangre Azteca, Virus
Tecnicos took 1/3, Triton beat Fuego.
3) Estrellita, Luna Mágica, Silueta DQ Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit
Straight falls, with the rudas getting DQed for excessive violence and shoving the ref in the second.
4) Ephesto, Mephisto, Namajague b Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr.
Namajague and Stuka continued to rip at each other’s masks. Mephisto surprised Maya with a Devil’s Wings for the win.
5) Mr. Niebla b Atlantis [lightning]
Monito and Zacarias fought. Niebla used a ref distraction to foul Atlantis for the win.
6) Mr. Águila, Psicosis, Volador Jr. b La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Titán
Rudos took 1/3.

Thunder – he’s back to that name now, CMLL is disorganized – appeared before the crowd this week. He’s using the obvious choice of AC/DC’s Thunderstruck as his music. He’s headed to Arena Coliseo Guadalajara on 02/05. It sounded like he was announced for next Friday’s Arena Mexico card last night, but he’s not on the lineup.

Lineup

CMLL (FRI) 02/01/2013 Arena Mexico
1) Sensei & Soberano Jr. vs Camorra & Guerrero Negro Jr.
2) Fuego, Hombre Bala Jr., Super Halcón Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Nitro, Skándalo
3) Dark Angel, Estrellita, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit
4) La Sombra vs La MáscaraTitánHijo del FantasmaRey CometaDeltaStuka Jr.SagradoAvernoEuforiaDragón Rojo Jr.Mr. ÁguilaPólvoraNamajagueFelinoTiger [Reyes del Aire, semifinal]
5) Máximo, Rush, Shocker vs Mephisto, Terrible, Último Guerrero

CMLL said this is the first phase of the Reyes del Aire; we’re assuming that to mean it’s two weeks of ciberneticos and a final.  (CMLL has enough people to do 3 or 4 weeks, but they probably aren’t.) The largest ever field for this tournament means top guys who were kept out of this are back: Sombra hasn’t been in this tournament since 2008 and Volador, who figures to be in next week’s group, hasn’t been in since 2009.  That kind of seems like the most likely final, though I think Titan has a decent shot. We can probably pencil in Namajague & Stuka as the double elimination.

Best guess at next week’s 16
Tecnicos: Mascara Dorada, Angel de Oro, Valiente, Guerrero Maya Jr., Triton, Fuego, Hombre Bala Jr.
Rudos: Volador, Mephisto, Niebla Roja, Rey Escorpion, Puma King, Psicosis, Raziel, Cancerbero

The big question: will Mistico be healthy enough to compete? He’d be the very obvious favorite if he had two working shoulders.

Amapola/Estrellita feud has gone on so long with no title match or other end in sight. A hair match at Dos Leyendas seems reasonable to me now, they have to be stretching this out for some reason.

PdM (SUN) 02/03/2013 Arena Zapata
1) ? vs ??
2) Henry & Konkreto vs Ek Balam & Súper Colt
3) Violento Jack vs Aeroboy [PdM EXTREMO]
4) Fly Metalik, Impulso, Terremoto vs Celestial, Cósmico, Talisman
5) Máscara Año 2000 Jr. & Ricky Marvin vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Psicosis

A Perros del Mal show. Ricky Marvin’s getting around.

  1. Hey Cubs,

Sorry to annoy you with my questions, but do you or anyone else know what happened to: Guapito, Groon XXX or Gronda II? I always loved the Gronda gimmick and Guapito seemed to be a big part of AAA.

    Thanks

  2. @ProWresBlog:

I think AAA had some ideas for Guapito, but never ended up doing anything with them or him. Last I saw, he moved to Sinola (home?) and occasionally appeared on indy shows there.

Groon XXX broke a leg badly on a Perros del Mal show in 2010 and it was said to be a career ending interview. He runs a gym, and every 9 months or so he’ll do an interview in his gym where he talks about how he’s coming back really soon. He’s been listed on cards, but I don’t know that he’s actually worked any matches and it’s unlikely he will.

Gronda II has been off TV forever, but he was part of the Chiva crew that still works AAA spot shows despite never being mentioned. He hasn’t been on one of those since the summer, unsure if he got hurt or if he’s done with AAA. It’s no big secret that the people in charge thought he was horrible in the ring, and he doesn’t have whatever Elegido has to stick around despite it.

  3. That’s a shame about Guapito. He had something special and he really oughta be doing something somewhere.

I know both Gronda and his clone were awful but hey they looked cool at least and were characters. I remember that Gronda leg break but you never know when/where people will pop up.

Thank you for answering my questions! I really do appreciate it!

  4. I think Cesar mentioned a couple months ago that Guapito was traveling with Shocker and selling his merchandise at the shows, no?

Reyes Del Aire Block A looks great! Pulling for Sombra, Titan or Cometa in no particular order. Expecting Sombra to win but Titan has a chance! A small one! But a chance! Hoping Sagrado goes far and Cometa isn’t the first one eliminated as always. Last year he was definitely last in the pecking order but this year he could easily be ranked higher than Delta, Stuka Jr., Sagrado & Hijo Del Fantasma on the tecnico side.

Also, I can’t shake this feeling that something is going to happen on the tecnico side next Friday. Rush/Shocker problems? I feel like that match is happening for a reason rather than a go-home quick random hat generated trios match.

  5. Santito may not be able to sell out Tijuana, but FMLL will certainly triple DGUSA’s attendance tonight (perhaps even for the whole weekend.)
