Hombre Bala Jr., Pegasso, Super Halcon Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Hijo del Signo, Hooligan: this seemed a better/more obvious carry job than the rudo than usual, so I was glad to see the right team win. While Bala did his usual stuff and Pegasso did whatever his leg was up to (and he should immediately adopt the headscissors into a small package as his cradle), Super Halcón seemed way toned down to nothing more complicated than flipping armdrags. It was the Dallys moveset, and Arkangel made Super Halcón look like he knew what he was doing with them. Not the greatest showing of potential but a welcome appearance of competence.
Estrellita, Goya Kong, Marcela vs Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Zeuxis 2: Lacking the usual big failures, mostly because they’re just keeping these matches safe and not interesting. Zeuxis is the one trying things, and having very mixed results. She and Marcela were really good together at points, and on other pages at other points. Zeuxis mostly missed (or was missed by) Goya on her moonsault to the floor, which really shouldn’t happen.
Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs La Máscara, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. 2: Normal Pesta Negra match. Comedy, set up for the técnicos, more comedy. Surprising finish because of the setup, but doesn’t really mean anything (as usual). Tirantes deciding to strictly enforce the tag rules while everyone else is starting to go back as business to usual makes it stick out even more. Stuka vs Negro Casas seems like a fun match we haven’t seen.
Titán vs Mephisto 2: It’s too bad this happened on the Tuesday show, only seen by tourists and a small group of under 30 fans, because this would’ve been a star making performance on a bigger show. Titan’s had a number of great matches this year – he’s got to win the great new star awards, except Místico will instead – but this was him going up against a top guy and giving him everything Mephisto could handle. The crowd wanted to just cheer the rudo and boo the técnico like always, but they were sucked in by the time Titan connected on the big crowd clearing tope con giro and actually cared by the time it was over. Mephisto was a great rudo in this, and Titan looks even better despite the loss.
CMLL needs more of this – not specifically these two, but matches where some of the younger técnicos take on some of the experienced rudos in singles matches. They don’t have to win if they just get a chance to look this good against the rudos.
