02/23: Notes

Ovaciones mentions CMLL will try selling tickets via TicketMaster for the 03/09 and 03/16 Arena Mexico shows. It sounds like it’s a trial situation, especially since they’re not committing doing it for to the big show.

There’s like a 90% chance I’m going to try to buy a ticket to Arena Mexico for one of those shows, even though I won’t be within 4000 miles of Mexico City. Won’t be the biggest waste of ticket money I’ve made, I can tell you today.

There’s also an interview with Pirata Morgan, pointing out Consgrados doesn’t mean old, it means accomplished.

AAA’s posted a bunch of lineups. Sexy Star is the mystery women in the second match of the 03/03 taping – the Linda Star idea makes as much sense as any. They’ve got to run an angle to introduce her tonight, right?

La Presna has a generic preview of tonight’s Arena Mexico show. So does Notimex. So does ESTO. Does CMLL send out releases with this info? (It’s basically the three version of the same story.) What are the odds of me getting on that list? (not so good.)

Esto also talks to Alex Koslov about his start in Mexico and his tecnico turn. You know, I actually tried to tried to get Alex Koslov for an interview on Joe Versus The World, but he hasn’t gotten back to me on e-mails – you don’t want me to try and book guests for your show, is all I’m saying. I think I need to be a newspaper? I think I need to talk to someone better at this.

Meanwhile, Maximo would like a shot at Averno’s title, and Ultimo’s mask. Usually, I’d say something like “It’s good to have dreams”, but Maximo really doesn’t have much to lose if he puts his hair up for his mask, and everything to gain.

You know how the Torreon Box Y Lucha comission expected about 140 people to get their lucha libre licenses? Only 4 have. The deadline is March 1st, and the comission is very unhappy. Spokesperson for them threatens to ban non-licensed promoters, but I guess most wrestlers must not be taking it seriously.

A year after being announced, the Monclova Box Y Lucha commission was finally made official by the Mayor. They’re going to work to have a doctor at every show, make sure every wrestler has a physical, and improve the security at events. Meanwhile, the local wrestlers and referees union has postponed a strike, scheduled to take start today. They’re pushing it back to 03/18. The union is looking for some sort of social security; currently, if you’re hurt wrestling, the most you’ll get from a promoter tin can to go beg fans for money. That’s pretty harsh.

There’s a post on Box Y Lucha claiming to be the Box Y Lucha forum claiming to be the Rey de Reyes site, but I there’s not enough there to believe. They’ve got Scott Steiner working the main event, which I’m not sure is likely, and they’ve don’t cite seeing it on a poster or reading it on a newspaper or tapping Konnan’s phone or anything to cite where it came from. It’s possible, but I’m going to wait for it to turn up from another source.
