This was the Octagon tribute show, for 25 years in wrestling, but he was replaced in the main event by Intocable (and Alan fouled him for the loss.) Why didn’t Octagon wrestle? Before the main event, Octagon was honored and given a plaque by Intocable. Octagon made a speech, and dedicated this anniversary to Antonio Pena. Tirantes arrived, and said there was one more who wanted to honor Octagon – Fuerza Guerrera, who honored him by breaking the plaque over his head.

I dunno about you, but I refuse to take this seriously until they actually announce the mask, instead of this “Fuerza reappears every five months, punks out Octagon, and vanishes” bit. It’s not like the match is going to be any good, but they need to do it already.

Mr. Niebla did indeed debut as the newest Viper (as spoiled a day early in Luchas 2000) and under that name, but was overshadowing by continuing Hijo de Tirantes/Abismo Negro issues. The Hell Brothers made a cameo in the Sect tag team match, busting up Espiritu (so he’ll be MIA for the 3v3 main event next taping.) No sign of a Mexican Powers breakup this week; Juvi got fouled in that match, but still manged to win.

Tournament chart. I’m going to presume unaired matches counted until told different. Is the Caida show still doing updates on this? It’d be nice to compare notes.

Next taping is Thursday. To echo the comments, I’ve also heard 02/04 is the taping after that.

  1. 2/4 in MTY isn’t a taping. I corrected myself in a recent comment.

17 team round robin tournament… wow.

That taping looks really fun. After yesterday’s match I’m stoked about the Super Fly/Pegasso team. I’m thinking Rey Cometa is injured…

  2. Ok I am still extremely tired after only four hours sleep but here is my report as best as I can give it.

The place sold out.In fact due to an oversight more tickets were sold than there were seats creating some difficulties.I am not exxagerating when I say it was a crowd close to 3000 people. This has been the biggest draw since the Parka/Mistico vs Dr Wagner Jr/Rey Bucanero main event.

The first two matches were the usual stuff, nothing to brag about. The last four matches however were what lucha libre was all about. The locals in their last three matches, including Swat Cat,Tyme Paige,Guerrerito del Futuro,Laser 2000,Mini Charlie Manson,Mascara de Jade,Aguila del America,Los Payasos, and “El Incognito”[real name changed due to the fact the guy named himself Mistico de Ciudad Juarez.Smell the lawsuit baby!!!]all gave a very good account of themselves, delivering fast paced action with lots of topes and saltos mortales. And the main event was actually better than many fans may have feared.Mil allowed fans to take still pictures of the action so he was in something of a good mood.[And yes I did get to get my picture taken with him.Still don’t know if it came out though.]And I have to give big props to Canek, who still looks like the Canek I watched on tv in Mexico during my oh so wasted adolesence. The guy is still as massive as ever.Rayo de Jalisco Jr even seemed a bit quicker than he has been seen in his last tv matches for CMLL.Maybe the large crowd got to the wrestlers and they decided to give it their all.Good for them.

[p.s. on this last paragraph, due to unforseen circumstances Huracan Ramirez Jr could not be present at the show]

And since the show did bring in a huge crowd there will be money left over to bring in big names for the March 11th show.Sadly Mistico could not confirm for this show. However if there are no scheduling conflicts for this date the lucha libre main event for the date of March 11th 2007 at the Congress Theater will be……………………………wait for it……………………………………………..
………………….Hijo del Santo and La Parka vs Blue Demon Jr and Shocker. Now that is going to be HUGE!!!!

  3. My pick for the tourney was Alan/Zumbidosky, but they lost clean in Puebla… they can make it up but… I wonder if Rey Cometa Jr ended injured in that missed dive I posted images a while ago… I thought he and Kaoma had quit, but then Kaoma shows up with a mini Kaoma!!! OK, it was not a mini Kaoma, but they ought to do it!!!

  4. My guess is nobody is booking the tournament. It’s random matches with random winners decided and at the end(if there is one) someone will say “we want (insert team) to be champs”. They’ll realize that team is already eliminated(somehow) and give the belts to whichever team happens to have the most points… just so they can drop it on the next taping to the team they want to win. Which will probably be… Crazzy Boy/Joe Lider.

  5. Crazzy Boy/Joe Lider? Hardly, they already got the atomicos title, I think either Guapos or Vipers need someone getting the tag belts for balancing things out…
